FOOL H - Philadelphia and Brooklyn
Brooklyn sends SS Al Bridwell to the Phillies for 3B Ed Lennox. Lennox is an offensive upgrade and is cheaper than Bridwell, thanks for the easy deal!

I'm in a bit of a pickle, because I accepted a trade with Alan before you responded back. What should I do?

I would start by not accepting multiple offers at the same time. That is a good place to begin You'll obviously have to go back on one of the deals since you can't trade him twice (we don't have cloning technology yet in 1905!). Just figure out which deal you liked better and factor in whatever other issues you need to. In the end, I don't take stuff personally, so no hard feelings here if you need to cancel our deal. I'll just take it out on the Phillies in the field for the next 10 years! |

I guess it's up to you which deal you want to accept.

I was in negotations with both teams, Alan responded with an acceptance before BuckinBronco did. I would say this is normal protocol for having discussions on the same player with multiple teams. If I'm wrong please let me know.

It's fine to negotiate with multiple teams over the same player at the same time. In the case of hot commodities, its even crafty to position the teams offers against each other to try to drive up the price if you think you can get away with it. I think the fine line is drawn when you move from the conversations of "What would you be willing to give up" or "What would you want for.." and transition to the stage of " I offer you X for Y" or "I accept your offer". For instance in our negotiations, when you sent me the counter proposal, I didn't assume it was final as you could tell from my response back regarding the player in question. The only time I assumed it was final was at the end when you said you would accept. Like I mentioned though before, I'm really easy going, so no hard feelings here if you have to go back on it. I understand it is an awkward position. And I don't get as mean and crabby as someone like ekcut does! |
