“We couldn’t complete the update...” help.

I have a Sager Laptop. Windows 8.1.

Can’t get past this screen. It has been on it for over an hour. The help I have seen on internet regarding F8 boot into safe mode isn’t working.

Can anyone help?

windows 8.1 sucked. I got stuck in a black screen of death.
The only way out of it was going into safe mode. Then waiting forever and like magic my icons would come back. I had to change my graphics card driver to something else because the default was causing that. I had an even worse version of that with the creators update of windows 10.

I found this: 5 Ways To Boot Into Safe Mode In Windows 8.1 | Digital Citizen

to get to safe mode

although I recall just going shutting off and on again makes it ask if you want to go to safe mode I think.

As for that screen *shrug* just go to sleep and let it ride. IF it isn't done by then then reboot. Cause it probably crashed. But the thing is, when windows 8 hates your computer (as it did mine and my graphics card) it absolutely takes forever to get around to letting you know that it finally got past the thing that was giving it trouble.

Yeah, I'd probably let it ride. In Win10, if you interrupt the boot process three times, it will kick in to the recovery/repair menu, maybe works in 8 too.

Get anywhere on the recovery? I believe that's your only option.

When you do get up and running I'd probably see if the Windows 10 free upgrade is available. It's a much better system overall.

So now, several hours later, it completes and everything looks fine. *shurg*

I stand by what I said, dump 8.1 and get 10.

good to hear.

These opsyses seem to like taking forever to do things. They just hang and hang and hang on the parts that aren't compatible with themselves before moving on. At least I THINK that's what is happening.

I tried to run 7 games on steam at once so that I could get more card drops. I shut one down and highlighted another....then my computer crashed and rebooted. I held my breath.

It came back black or taking a long time so I rebooted again so it could clear its head.

All logic left my body and I selected "Update and restart"

I held my breath for the next 2 hours and decided to go to the library.

When I came back it was back up but did more updates after I logged in. It said it wanted me to change my password, when i logged in it got an error but it's up.

I always find myself holding my breath a lot
