Since Philbin's staying, there won't be any interesting Dolphins news until free agency, at least.

Stephen Ross definitely put a lump of coal in my Black Monday stocking!

I think this Bengals/Steelers game is going to be a really good one. Not a bad way to end a pretty wild season.

Can the Lions finally beat the Packers at GB for the first time since '91? In other words, Mike Tomczak was GB's QB when it happened.

Yeah it's pretty much an enormous game for Detroit. Definitely going to be underdogs, but if their defense can keep them in the game I think they have a decent chance at the end. The five-way tie for best record in the NFC basically means as far as I know that they get a tough road game in the playoffs if they don't beat Green Bay, so it could pretty much be the season for them here.

Dal W + GB/Det W + Sea W -> #2

Dallas would actually be #3 in this scenario. They would beat Seattle in a 2-team tiebreaker due to their head-to-head win, but a 3-way tie is broken by conference record, where Dallas is worse than AZ / Sea / GB / Det.

/nitpick

Pretty amazing work there.

Great job as ever, Matthijs, but I suspect you could simplify, at least in GB's case, with GB W + SEA L/T -> #1, GB W + SEA W -> #2, GB L-> #6. The only permutations more complicated than that involve either a tie, or the #5.

Thanks for those MIJB-that's a lot of possibilities for my beloved Cards. Basically they win and everyone else loses, they get a #1 or #2 seed. Got it

I cannot believe this was not the big news of the day:

Tyler Thigpen to Browns: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction | Bleacher Report

He might actually get to play some depending if Hoyer can recover from a shoulder injury or not to be the backup. If Shaw stinks up the joint enough or gets hurt, who knows, he could actually get some playing time this season. That would make for a nice Xmas present for me, especially if my beloved Cards lose on Sunday.

I just hope the Cowboys don't make it 4 straight seasons of missing out on the playoffs on the last game of the season.

I am thinking... no. Too many factors - ordered in worst to least worst - at play here that break against the Lions:

1. Playing in Green Bay
2. It will be cold
3. It is a meaningful game
4. They are playing Aaron Rodgers
5. They are playing the Packers

Often, any one of those would be sufficient to pretty much ensure the Lions lose a game, combined... It's like Voltron with his Blazing Sword.

I had it written that way at first, but then I noticed that Dallas plays before Green Bay-Detroit and Seattle and Arizona do, hence why I listed the Dallas results first for all the NAC teams.

Same with Indianapolis and Denver playing before Cincinnati does.

Edit: As it turned out, the Dallas results does nothing for Green Bay's situation (as you pointed out), I took Dallas entirely out of the Green Bay scenarios. In the process, I also combined some of the Dallas loss and Dallas tie scenarios, as it turns out, lose or tie, Dallas' faith is almost identical.

So it seems the Giants aren't being given a good shot at the WC.

Man, just like them to win a few meaningless games to get themselves out of the top 5-10. Then they'll feel good about "something" which they shouldn't feel so confident about (like the O-line or the D-line) and grab another CB.

Bad news, good news Chief fans?

Bad-Alex Smith has a lacerated spleen and is out for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Chase Daniels will be starting.

Good: Do the Chiefs have a WR TD yet this season? If not they might actually get one with Smith out. Chase Daniels has one career start...last year in WK 17 vs these same Chargers. Daniels lost that game but was 21/30 for 200 yds and a TD.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12...diego-chargers

In Cardinals news, apparently Logan Thomas looked so bad in practice they are starting Lindlley instead. Worse than Lindley...yeesh. And Drew Stanton somehow got an infection in his knee and is on antibiotics:

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton has scope on knee, is out indefinitely - ESPN

Has an NFL team ever gone an entire season without a WR TD? That seems...extremely unlikely.

Edit: Apparently the 1950 Steelers are the only team to ever have that distinction. They had 225 pass attempts all year.

Doesn't help Shaw succeed, but then I'm not sure he's trying to help any of his QBs succeed.

He falls short of the threshold for completing a season meaning that after next season he will be a RFA instead of a UFA. Pretty bad choice of decisions on his part.

So I'm out having lunch and in walks a kid, maybe 6 or 7, wearing a newish looking Mark Bavaro #89 Giants jersey. I guess they were out of Taylor, Simms and Morris jerseys.

Looks like the Chiefs are destined not to have a WR catch a touchdown this year. Bowe nearly scored but fumbled inside the 1 yardline, Travis Kelcie recovered in the endzone for the TD.

Browns better fix the rest of their offense before spending another first-round pick on a QB.

With Bucs way ahead and Titans down 10 looks like the Titans are the #1 team in the draft. Good for them they will have their puck of Mariotta or Winston as they really need a QB down there.

I know the NFL wants to add playoff teams. But I don't see the point of adding more mediocre teams to the mix.

All the other major sports do it..... I wouldn't classify all the teams battling in the AFC or the Eagles as mediocre.

As much as you may not like Rex Ryan, you have to admit that this fake punt,, while ahead, in a game that doesn;t matter, is a fun thing.
