Pretty heavy punishment IMO. Then again I'm a Colts fan.

Irsay will just have to fill his time with hookers and blow until week seven.

They should have taken draft picks, if at all possible.

I was trying to figure out how you "suspend" an owner, and then I saw that he's prohibited from talking about the Colts or the NFL on twitter. That's probably going to drive him right back to his vices.

Or roughly 3 game clock minutes of national broadcast revenue.

I think he'll survive.

I can't link directly to it at work, but Merrill Hoge (noted Tim Tebow denouncer) went off on what he thinks of Johnny Football during interview on Pittsburgh based station this morning.

Easier to post a summary:

Quote:
"If you're the Steelers defense you want No. 2 to walk out on that field. You want him on that field," Hoge said. "He has no business being on the field right now. This is the one thing that probably burns me more about the NFL more than anything, is when a player like Johnny Manziel is drafted based on hype and excitement, not a true football skill.

"He really had no business being drafted in the first round. When I was doing the draft and I was going through and studying him. I actually got done and it's the first time, aside from when Tim Tebow came out, there's nothing, nothing he does that transitions to the National Football League. There's not one skill set he had where you say ‘Gosh he's a first-rounder.' Really nothing."

"If they put him on the field, quite honestly, he's jeopardizing their chances to win," Hoge said. "He's not helping their chances to win. I have not seen as elementary packages for a guy in preseason in a long time and he can't execute them."

Then again, this isn't surprising. Hoge was saying pre-draft that Johnny Football has bust written all over him - this is from March: Merril Hoge: Johnny Manziel Has "Bust Written All Over Him" - YouTube That's a fun video to watch because Skip Bayless says he's a Franchise Player. I think he'll just be a mediocre QB...which I guess makes him more of a bust given where he was drafted.

Hoge hasn't always been the best about talking about QBs either. At one point he said Joe Flacco was the best QB in the NFL. Of course, he hammered on Tebow and was right on that. What I like about Hoge versus Bayless, Stephen A Smith or other guys like that is that at least Hoge knows the game and watches the tape. He won't always be right and has strong opinions, but at least they're based on football knowledge where as those guys are just mouthpieces who don't know the games they're covering.

Wow. Disappointed in Welker. He's been a favorite of mine since his days in Miami. I even forgive him for the New England years. (P.S. Nice job on Operation Lost Bowl, Agent W.)

He adds at the end, something to the effect of him not lasting very long in the league.

The thing that always gets me is that the Browns paid good money for 3rd party QB analysis which told them to draft Bridgewater, and they pretty much ignored it.

I'm on record saying that I thought Bridgewater was going to be a very good QB in this league. So far he hasn't proved me wrong.

Sho' enough. He said "Well, its the initial dismantling of an organization based upon a bad pick in the first round." That's one hell of a statement when referring to a newly drafted QB. He didn't pull any punches. And give him credit, he stuck to that even when everyone thought Young was going to be great. Turned out he was right.

It tickles me to death how mad Jerry Jones is over not picking Manziel. You just know he will trade for the guy as soon as he gets a chance to.

He also said Cam Newton and Kaepernick would be bigtime busts, didn't like the Russell Wilson pick and said Green Bay "wasted a draft pick" on Aaron Rodgers because Brian Brohm was going to be a better pro. And, while track record has been anti-mobile QB with questionable accuracy (hence the Vince Young criticism), he's also on record as saying the Colts should have taken RG3 over Luck. Not sure you could find someone with a more dubious past for picking the right QBs. At this point, he should just say everyone sucks and be right 70% of the time

Well at least we can be comforted knowing Josh Gordon will have a job during his suspension:

Good for him. Seems he will at least try to stay out of trouble while suspended.

In fairness, for someone who had watched him in college and wasn't particularly impressed with Sam the player, it wasn't a big stretch for me to see him fall to that 6th/7th/UDFA bucket, so it wasn't a particularly insightful comment.
