Honestly, knowing the FOFC a little bit, I figure a third town isn't very far down the pike (the numbers would seem to dictate it at some point) but at the same time I'm wondering how in the heck we're going to fund & efficiently build two at the moment, let alone three. Seems like it might be great if we happened to stumble across a well developed ghost town, although when looking last night I didn't see any better than start up level in any of our surrounding quadrants. One thing we probably need to get a handle on pretty soon (if it hasn't already happened up the thread & I've missed it) is figuring out who are construction specialists are/will be. Not including character class +5% bonus (since I don't know who has chosen what, I haven't picked yet since I've got to move around a bit today & wanted to keep the +150% on speed until I reached the site of El Dolado) Including item bonuses I've currently got 51 labor points toward building - 15 x 3 construction, plus 2 repair, plus 4 leadership From his graphic Chinaski would have 115 labor points toward building 38 x 3 construction, plus 1 repair, plus 0 leadership Based on Frog Man's earlier basic formula of "you improve the building by (net labor points)/4*motivation% ", I shouldn't work on any buildings if he's available & willing. 115 gross lp minus 15 difficulty (for level 1, 30 for level 2, etc) gives him 100 net lp divided by 4 = 25 times 100% = 25 points per hour working. With 100 points needed for a level one general store, by my calculation he could finish one in four hours ... assuming the $480 needed to fund it was available. I'd need over 11 hours & $1,300+ to do the same thing. Speaking of which, hey Frog Man (or anybody), you mentioned the difficulty increasing by 15 each additional level but is there a standard for the number of construction points needed to complete a building at each level? i.e. It's 100 points total for a level one general store but what about other level one buildings? And at level 2,3, etc?

I'm about to finish a sugarcane quest, which will put me up around halfway to level 10. I have 153 in cash, and about 120 in tradeable stuff.

Dang, that's pretty good (to me at least) in the tradeable stuff. But make sure not to sell off something you're going to need shortly for another quest. The detailed quest info at The West Stats and Tools is really good for checking, I'm so paranoid about that I won't sell anything before looking the list over for the umpteenth time.

Level 9, with $295 saved up. Doing some cotton picking to the right of Troutville before I move on to some consecutive railroad jobs near by.

Is there any benefit to building a second town before we get the first town to a minimum state? It seems like town affiliation doesn't provide much without a hotel and some stores. Should we be getting a town usable before worrying about a second and third, or is it better to have a couple of lower-level guys team up to work on town two to try to keep pace with our leader?

I hit 10th level and decided to go with soldier. So if anyone comes unfairly dueling the workers, I will be able to deal with them. In a few levels.

A few pages back (depending on your number of posts per page I guess) we bandied this about a bit, starting around post #345. The pros were basically securing the second location, allowing a jump start on the treasury for town 2, and allowing a quicker start on the general store for town 2 (which would likely end up with a different selection of items than town 1, giving us access to more items at the reduced price). The biggest downsides seemed to be some divided focus and the risk of being dueled while a resident. I think the other benefit I see is probably psychological, making it easier for FOFC'ers to contribute toward the group effort without making it quite as insane a process to try to rotate nearly two dozen players through just four resident slots in town one (5 minus Frog Man). I suspect that's going ultimately to be the biggest pain in the butt for a while until we can put time & money into expanding the number of residences in both towns. Best I can tell, for someone to get an invite someone else will need to leave, and then someone with founder status will have to be on to send them an invite, etc. etc. The coordination of that doesn't seem like it'll be all that easy, especially not with a game that has such an ebb & flow of activity (i.e. work work work, then sleep for 8 hours of real time).

Crim - how did you get dueled, during the time you were a member of Atlantis?
Almost sounds like a way to set up weary travelers.

I had two jobs queed earlier, it went through one and then was half way done to the other and nothing showed in my reports, then I went to assign me to sleep as my second action and it immediately went to do that and the action disappeared, so I guess there was some weird error and I was really just sitting around for the past four hours.

okay, sorry guys, I'm here now. Real life got in the way...
First things first ,WE GOT A TOWN!!! Second, we'll need to raise money, like in the next 30 minutes or so. I made the mistake of not selling my sellables when I was at La Vie Boheme this morning and now I'm kinda short if I want to put in a first two hours of building improvement. I have $178 in my pockets and two hours of carving out claims that finished in a couple minutes. If I get more than $62 I'll be fine to improve the town for a couple hours, but I'll be done after that. Now, who's in the direct vicinity of Troutville and can come donate some money real quick? Send me a PM ingame and I'll send you an invite. Now I'll go read the posts I've missed and do some replying... FM

need donation to the treasury people, work the phone, do something! FM

I'd say we should rotate, except for workers. Whoever is working on buildings (me in a town, maybe you Brian on the other) will need money to keep on working on buildings and that money gets burned real fast at $240 per two hour period. Whoever has like $200 to give should ask for an invite, say how far they are from the town they are asking for said invite, and wait. FM

work the phone then, quick, quick! Seriously, I just started 30 minutes of carving out claims, so I'll have the money to do some building. I won't need anymore money tonight anyway, since founding the town kinda drained me and I only had something like 45 energy at the start of the evening. Down to 30 now... Will need to trek to La Vie Boheme to sleep in their hotel. More on them a bit later btw... FM

It's a 41:32 walk from my current location to the site & then another 8 hours to build but construction of El Dolado - FOFC is now underway.
It's a shade west of the square Frog Man originally indicated in his graphic, but has 7 jobs -- pigs, scarecrow, telegraph poles, branding cattle, mucking stables, tobacco, and sheep -- within the frame when it's centered on screen. Cotton, railroad, beans, irrigation, corn, and repair fences are all within a half screen (if you're scrolling with it as the center) in one direction or another. Those won't always be useful but it seemed like the best location of those in the vicinity of the target square, hope it suits everybody. By my reckoning it should be finished a couple of hours before I wake up tomorrow morning.

a couple workers per town will be necessary, so they can alternate working on buildings (to avoid motivation problems). Other than that, other spots should be on rotation. As I said before, once you got some money to donate, ask for an invite, money will be absolutely necessary. I need to carve out claims for 8 hours at $60 per 2 hours in order for me to pay out two hours of building improvement. With 28 players in the game, we should be able to replenish the coffers of the two towns on a regular basis... As for gunslingers, I say we keep 'em outside and go with the "merc for hire" way of doing things. Someone hits us, we bring 'em in. Again, I'll post a bit more about La Vie Boheme in a few, but they are definitely pacifist and friendly to our towns. FM

Yeah, forgot to reply to that. Guys, there's no real reason for you to carry big amount of money and not deposit it. Give the towns the money! No joke, the faster we'll get some money, the faster the two towns will have shops, and hotel, and bigger residence, and so forth... Otherwise, if you saving that $250 for a donkey, it's true that you are probably better off not being part of the town anyway... FM

The one town we should keep an eye on is the bottom one, called Rage. 2131 points and 10 of 12 residents marked as banned. If it ever becomes a ghost town, it'd be a steal. Otherwise, we just hit 29 FOFCers in my big census. I'd say we could have two very viable 15-20 people town for a long while, with maybe adventurers staying on the outside except to come shopping, since they can sleep in hotel for free... Quote:
Yeah, chinaski just got to Troutville and he told me he's at 136 lp for the construction job, not counting the 5% bonus. I'm now at 148. Maybe chinaski should move to your town tomorrow to help you out. We definitely need workers to come forward and tell us what their labor point for the construction job are. That is 3*construction+repairing+leadership, adding 5% if they are of the worker class... Quote:
the building points are mutiples per level, i.e. points to get from level x-1 to level x is (level 1 building points) times x. Here are the multipliers I can figure out: Town Hall: 100 Residences: 200 Bank: 100 Hotel: 200 any shop: 100 Mortician, one level only: 100 (I think, can't remember) So to get a hotel to level 3, it'd be 600 building points. So what's the building priority order?
Off the top of my head it's something like: Hotel and general store as 1 & 2 (in some order) then ... I dunno

yeah, I went with hotel first, at least to give the workers a place to sleep without having to go 40 minutes away. Then general store for sure, in order to find a place to sell the tradeables for everyone. After that, the tailor is a nice one, as shirts and hats and shoes are big boosts. REMEMBER ALL WORKERS: when building shops, do two 15 minutes shots of praying before every two hours of building. Doing so will insure a better selection of items in the shop once it's leveled up. It's been tested and proven true by others and I have witnessed it too in another world. This is not necessary when building any non-shop building like the hotel, the residences or the bank for example. FM

It's basically remains the same, except I now pick from many, many more jobs I can do, and I do jobs based on rewards, not always simply to get a quest done. Sometimes, you need to do jobs for the reward in experience, as leveling up from 24 to 25 is 635 points of experience, and sometimes, like right now for me, you do it to get money in order to shop for the kick ass shirt we'll have in the shop at some point... Oh, and I've pretty much decided to go with Soldier. Duelers move 10% faster on the map, but Soldiers have advantages that actually impact how well one fights.
Since I'm more leaning toward being an Avenging Fist of Hard Justice as opposed to an Asshole Who Jumps Newbies, I think soldier is the way for me. |
