NIT Second Round
Wichita North becomes the first GWAL team to win a postseason game this year, beating Purdue 87-52. Wichita West answers the call by beating Richmond 70-64. So there is still a bit of life in the GWAL. Butler beats Kansas St. 81-61, eliminating them. NCAA Second Round Xavier keeps rolling, beating Texas Tech 84-61. |

NIT Round of 16
Wichita North keeps winning, defeating Saint Marys 87-82. Wichita West beats Ole Miss 71-60. Maybe, just maybe, the GWAL can still win a postseason tournament. NCAA Sweet Sixteen Xavier is really clicking on all cylinders, as they put it to #23 UNLV, winning 75-55. NIT Round of 8 Wichita West advances to the NIT Final Four by beating Milwaukee 83-75! Wichita North shocked me a little bit in this one, as they beat Wake Forest 71-56 to also advance to the NIT Final Four. NCAA Elite Eight Xavier keeps rolling right into the Final Four for a second straight year, as they beat #2 Texas 70-57. |

NIT Final Four
In the first semifinal, Wichita West fell to Saint Louis, 79-70. In the second semifinal, Wichita North dropped a tough one to Louisville 88-81. So no postseason title for the GWAL this season, but congrats to West and North for a good run. The third place game saw West defeat North 64-51, and Louisville beat Saint Louis 76-60 to win the NIT championship. NCAA Final Four The first semifinal saw Big Twelve foes Kansas and Oklahoma meeting, and Oklahoma won 87-75. Then in the second semifinal, Xavier picked a bad time to play their worst game of the season, as Mississippi St. hammered them 83-58. In the NCAA Championship game, Oklahoma beat Mississippi State 70-54. |

2012 postseason Wrap-up
There are 2 other postseason tournaments to cover, starting with the CBI. (1) Kent St. held seeding and defeated (3) Hawaii 2 games to none in the CBI championship. They won the first game 68-65, and won the second game 78-70. In the CIT, (2) UNC Wilmington defeated surprising (12) Seattle 78-76 in the championship game. |

Wichita West put Dalton Pastore on the All-NCAA 3rd team, the only national award for the GWAL. I'll take it. Here's a look at the GWAL awards.

While I'm pleased that we have 4 teams in the top 100 of the national recruiting rankings, I'm dissapointed that Wichita East couldn't even land a recruit, and the best Kapaun could do is 1 recruit of 1 star. Not good, they better pick it up. |

The only conference movement was Gonzaga going to the WAC, replacing San Jose State who drops to the WCC.
Eddie Tate has had his personal demons come back, and has decided to retire from coaching. Good luck to him in the future, and I hope he is able to beat his demons. (The reason I'm deleting him from the dynasty is that I've lost contact with him, and bbgunn is adding a new coach, so that will fill this spot.) Other than that, there were no coaches that retired that jumped out at me. I've decided that since we haven't had a conference tournament the last 2 years, everybody gets a free pass again this year. A 2 year grace period, especiall after moving up to D1. But next year, every coach will be evaluated. |

No problem bbgunn. I've been so busy that I haven't gotten to this as much as I would like. Working 3 jobs sucks. I haven't had a day off from everything in over a month now. I've got Mr. B.B. Gunn at Hawaii, and I'd hoping to get next season started very soon.

3 jobs. A full time, a part time, and a seasonal. Fortunately the seasonal job ends at the end of this month, so for the month of November I should have a little more free time. But yes, it does make getting anything done quite hard.

B.B. Gunn has taken the job at Hawaii. He's a fresh new coach making his debut at the D1 level, and here is a look at his profile.
Code:
bbgunn, I know you said you wanted to start at 12 prestige, but the best I could do with the coaches already in the game with no experience was a 10. Still a very solid coach though. You are taking over a program that lost in the CBI finals, so the pieces are there, now can you put them together? |

Coaching Movement
Only 2 of our coaches got offers this round. Bryan Chadwick got offers from Southern Miss, Alabama, Dayton, and N.C. State. Of those jobs, only Dayton sounds appealing. They have a prestige of 80, which is lower than Wichita Heights, and everything else about them is lower. So Bryan is staying at Heights, for now. Reggie Taylor got offers from Southern Miss and Dayton. I am strongly considering giving him the Dayton job. Wichita West only has a prestige of 70, which is 10 lower than Dayton. However, Reggie pulled the 16th rated recruiting class in the nation last year, while Dayton was 213. Overall, the roster seems to have more promising underclassmen for Wichita West. Not to mention Dayton competes in the A-Ten with Xavier. I think Reggie would have a better chance winning a conference title at Wichita West, so I'm keeping him there. In round 2, another coach got offers. First off, Bryan Chadwick got offers from Creighton, Temple, and Valparaiso. I dismissed the Valparaiso job right off the bat. I also dismissed Temple, mainly becuase their roster isn't that strong and because their recruiting class was one of the worst in the nation. Which left Creighton. It was a very tough decision, but I decided the Bryan had a better situation at Heights. Marty Frankamp was also offered the position at Creighton. This is a situation that I couldn't refuse, so I've accepted the position for Marty at Creighton. Reggie Taylor was also offered the job at Creighton, as well as a job at Valapraiso. Unfortunately for Reggie, the Valpo job is not good enough for him, and I still felt he would benefit from another year at Wichita West. There were no other coaching offers in the offseason, so as it stands out I have 1 position to fill, the Wichita North position. |

I got a very lucky break when Chris Porter was fired at Kansas St. Since Chris is not a GWAL coach or an FOFCer, that means unfortunately the AI made the coaching decision on him, not me. Apparently K-State felt that he wasn't meeting their standards.
Which opened up a great opportunity for me. In real life, Chris's aunt is the girls basketball coach at North, and Chris has told me that he is in line to be the boys coach, so I thought it a perfect situation to scoop Chris up and hire him at Wichita North. So welcome Chris to the GWAL! |

Nov. 2012 Wrap-Up
Quite a few of our GWAL schools were playing in tournaments this month, as well as a few of our non-GWAL schools. Let's take a look at them. 2012 Anaheim Invitational Wichita North got things started right with a 74-70 victory over New Mexico St. in OT. Then they beat top seeded Miami 83-82, before losing a heartbreaker to second seed Marquette, 69-68. 2012 Coaches Invitational Wichita Northwest beat Wichita State 53-36, before losing to top seed Oklahoma 77-62 in the quarterfinals. 2012 Maui Shootout Bishop Carroll got blasted by Texas in the opening game, 98-47. Then they lost to N.C. State 59-57, and completed the trifecta by losing to Wyoming 59-47. Ouch! 2012 Paradise Shootout Kapaun Mt. Carmel was not to be outdone, losing to Arizona 80-57 in the first round. Then they lost to Nevada 75-65, and took Wright St to overtime before losing 83-81, becoming the second GWAL team to finish last in a season tournament. 2012 Philadelphia Invitational Wichita Southeast opened the tournament by beating UNLV 66-65. In the semifinals, they lost to top seed Duke 70-57. In the third place game, they lost to Charlotte 73-68. 2012 Preseason NIT Wichita Heights was the head scratcher in this one, as they were upset by Oakland in the first round, 85-78. Ugh! 2012 Puerto Rico Challenge Wichita East opened the tournament with a 74-47 win over George Mason. In the semifinal they were hammered by top seed Tennessee, 76-49. Then in the third place game, they lost to BYU 80-74. So in short, other than Wichita North, the performance of the GWAL in tournaments in November quite frankly, sucked. I expect better. Now we did have a couple non GWAL teams who played tournaments, let's look at those. 2012 Alaska Invitational Arkansas opened the tournament by beating Virginia Tech 71-67, then in the semifinals they beat Bowling Green 71-50. They then proceeded to win the championship against Dayton, 70-65. Congrats to Ryan Hujing on the Alaska Invitational championship. 2012 GDS Classic Xavier opened the tournament with an 84-63 victory over Seattle, then beat Hofstra 87-79 in the quarterfinals. Their run ended in the semifinals as 4th seed Nebraska beat them 76-68. |

Here is a look at the GWAL standings through November.
Code:
Boy, what a mess. I sure hope things pick up, because this is not what things in the GWAL are supposed to look like. I will refrain from doing team capsules in November, because honestly, most of November is preseason tournaments. My December team capsules will feature key games from both November (if there are any other than tournaments) and December |

Dec. 2012 Tournament Report
We had 2 GWAL teams and 1 non-GWAL team play in tournaments this week, lets take a look at those. 2012 Las Vegas Shootout Hawaii lost in the first round to South Alabama, 68-65 ending their tournament run early. 2012 Rainbow Invitational Wichita South started the tournament on a dissapointing note, losing to San Diego 67-47. Then they lost the consolation semifinal to Cal State Northridge 77-65. They recovered to finish a very dissapointing 7th by hammering South Carolina State 79-49. 2012 San Juan Classic Wichita West lost a tough game to a ranked St. Johns team to open the tournament, 73-62. Then they lost another hard fought game to St. Bonaventure 74-64. They beat UNC Wilmington 60-52 to claw out 7th place. Overall, not a good performance for our tournament teams, especially the GWAL teams that played in November or December tournaments. I expect a lot better in the future. |

Here are the GWAL standings through December, and I have to say they look much better.
Code:
Bishop Carroll is struggling. Those poor guys just don't have a lot to work with. They handed Harvard their first and only loss on the season so far, but it's Harvard! They seem to be improving though, as they lost by only 6 to a ranked Missouri team, and by only 2 to a very good Arkansas team. High hopes for conference play. Kapaun Mt. Carmel has turned it around after losing all 5 of their games in November. They started December off with a good win against Indiana St., then beat Kansas St., and the big win was a victory over Oklahoma. They did, however, have that 24 point loss to top 10 Oklahoma State. Wichita South had an up and down December. The good was an upset win over previously mentioned Oklahoma St., as well as a solid win against Nebraska. The bad was the 7th place finish in the Rainbow Invitational, as well as a bad loss to Texas San-Antonio. Wichita Southeast won the games they should have won, and had tough losses against Bradley, Western Kentucky, and Tulsa. Really, only about 10 points separate them from being a 10 win team right now. |

Dec. 2012 non-GWAL wrap-up
#16 Xavier (Shane Dreiling)-- 10-1, 0-0 A-Ten, Their only loss was to Nebraska, and they haven't really played anybody big, but they did have a nice win against Louisville. #19 Creighton (Marty Frankamp)-- 11-1, 1-0 MVC, It's tough to get a read on these guys, as their schedule hasn't been too great. Their best wins have come against Minnesota, and their conference opener against Wichita St. Their only loss was to Wichita East. Wichita State (Shannon Elliott)-- 6-6, 0-1 MVC, After starting the season 6-1, the Shockers have now lost 5 straight to Arkansas, Wichita Heights, #6 Oklahoma State, Memphis, and Creighton. Tough stretch of games! Their only quality win was against Oklahoma. Arkansas (Ryan Hujing)-- 8-3, 0-0 SEC, Their 3 losses were to Wichita Northwest, a blowout loss to Missouri St., and at Cincinnati. They haven't had a quality win since their Alaska Invitational victory. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn)-- 3-6, 0-0 WAC, It's been a struggle for Hawaii, and it'll take a lot to get them back into the postseason. They really haven't had a quality win, their best win was against Akron. The 78-74 loss to New Hampshire hurts. |

January 2013 Wrap-Up
Here are the GWAL standings through January. Code:
As you can see, it's really a 2 team race at this point. Spots 3 through 9 are wide open, as there seems to be a lot of parity within the league this year. Also, Wichita North is having a great season, and I am thinking I could lose Chris Porter after this year. Bishop Carroll (Deacon Palmer) -- The Eagles had a quality win against Wichita Southeast to finish the month, but haven't done much other than that. Kapaun Mt. Carmel (Shane Kormelink) -- Kapaun started the month off right with a win over Wichita Northwest, then lost 6 of their next 7, including an embarassing 90-42 loss to Wichita Heights. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- The Titans won 5 of 9 in January, as they had an easy non-conference win against Centenary at the end of the month. They can't be ashamed about any of their 4 losses, which came against East, Heights, North, and Southeast, probably the best 4 teams in the conference. Wichita Southeast (Rudy Arellano) -- Southeast was also 5-4 in January, with their worst loss being a 110-67 stomping against arch rival Wichita East. They did have a nice win over Wichita Heights however, along with a non-conference win against a decent Seattle team. |

Jan. 2013 Non-GWAL Wrap-Up
#9 Xavier (Shane Dreiling) -- 18-1, 5-0 A-Ten, 1st, They are making it look easy, running through their opponents, even beating their toughest competition thus far, Saint Louis, by 14. Looks like Xavier could be playing a long while into March. #11 Creighton (Marty Frankamp) -- 19-2, 9-1 MVC, 1st. The Bluejays lead the conference by 3 games already, as they really haven't been tested. Their only loss was to a solid Missouri State team. Creighton is another team that could make a long run into March. Wichita State (Shannon Elliott) -- 10-11, 4-6 MVC, T-8th, Nothing much to say here, they are beating the lower teams in the conference, and losing to the top teams. Illinois State is the only sub .500 team that Wichita State lost to in the month of January. Arkansas (Ryan Hujing) -- 12-8, 2-4 SEC, T-4th West, Arkansas has had a tough run so far in SEC play, not to be surprised because every SEC team has a winning record! This is by far the best and toughest conference in the NCAA. The Razorbacks did have a good win over ranked Florida. Hawaii (B.B Gunn) -- 4-14, 1-6 WAC, 9th, Boy Hawaii just isn't having much luck this season, getting whipped by everybody. Their lone conference win was against Idaho. Most of their losses have been by single digits however, except the 28 point loss to Utah St. Code:

Also, how are you guys liking the new month by month format. Should I be reporting on all the GWAL teams? Or just the FOFC coached teams. I'm still trying to figure out the best format. If I had enough interest, I would just focus on all the FOFC coached teams.

Regular Season (February and early March 2013 Wrap-Up
First lets take a look at the final regular season standings for the GWAL. Code:
So for the third straight year, Wichita Heights wins the regular season championship. This year, however, there is a GWAL tournament, so they'll have to earn their automatic bid in the tournament. Bishop Carroll (Deacon Palmer -- Ouch, not a good finish to the regular season for Carroll, who lost all but 1 game in February and early March. Their only win was a big one though, as they not only upset, but demolished Wichita North by 27. Kapaun Mt. Carmel (Shane Kormelink) -- Kapaun had some nice wins against Southeast, North, South, and Bishop Carroll in February/early March, but all their losses in this month and a half were by double digits. Wichita South (Kuji Chagulia) -- South opened February with a big 27 point victory over Wichita East, and in the middle of the month lost 4 straight. They finished off the regular season with 2 non-conference wins in early March. Wichita Southeast (Rudy Arellano) -- Southeast had a 4 game losing streak and a 4 game winning streak in Feb./early March. They did get revenge against Wichita East, beating them by a sole point. |

Yeah unfortunately, being a prestige 2 conference we were getting nothing accomplished. Not that we are doing a lot better as a mid-major. I felt bad that Bishop Carroll ended up being the worst prestige team. I don't think you have to worry about your job quite yet. However, even if I do fire you from Bishop Carroll, I'm sure you'll land somewhere else. And.. like I said.. you can always do like bbgunn did and create another coach. The more the merrier. I wish I could get more people involved than just you, korme, Rudy, and BBgunn though. lol

Non GWAL Regular Season Review
#6 Xavier (Shane Dreiling) -- 28-2, 15-1 A-Ten, 1st. Surprise! Xavier did lose a game after January. Their only other loss, was to a decent Dayton team. Xavier managed to beat #5 Temple and St. Josephs by 13 each and is looking forward to a deep run in March. #8 Creighton (Marty Frankamp) -- 27-3, 16-2 MVC, 1st. Creighton's only blemishes in conference play were a loss to Missouri State and a loss to Northern Iowa. They also demolished Wichita Southeast in a non-conference game to end the season. Wichita State (Shannon Elliott) -- 15-14, 9-9 MVC, 7th. The Shockers finished the season winning 4 out of 5, their only loss a hard fought 3 point loss to Creighton. Their big wins were against Missouri St. and Indiana St. Arkansas (Ryan Hujing) -- 16-14, 6-10 SEC, 5th West. Arkansas is a good team, unfortunately the SEC is tough. Too tough for the Razorbacks who struggled all season. They did win the first match with Auburn, who then hammered them in the rematch. Hawaii (B.B. Gunn) -- 8-20, 5-11 WAC, 7th. Ouch! Boy was Hawaii bad this year. They did show signs of greatness, as they beat Louisiana Tech once, who finished the regular season 20-9. They ended the regular season with a win against newly promoted Gonzaga, who they will turn right around and face in the first round of the WAC tournament. Let's take a look at the Bubble Watch before the conference tournaments start. Code:
The only team that matters in this watch is Arkansas, who is projected in. As far as the GWAL goes, things have changed. Wichita Heights is considered a lock, while all the other teams are considered out. Xavier, as expected, is a lock Creighton surprisingly is not a lock, but they are projected to be in. Wichita State is projected out, as is Hawaii. Keep in mind these projections are only for the NCAA tournament, not the entire postseason. Some of the GWAL teams, as well as Wichita St., could still make a lower postseason tournament. |

2013 GWAL First Round
(8) Kapaun hammered (9) Bishop Carroll 73-55. Not much to say here. Some would say that Deacon Palmer would be on the hotseat. Yes, the expectations were for every GWAL team to be in the postseason, but I also know that Carroll doesn't have a lot to work with right now. |

2013 GWAL Quarterfinals
(8) Kapaun Mt. Carmel stunned (1) #20 Wichita Heights 77-74. We'll see if Heights will still be considered a lock for the NCAA tournament after this loss. (5) Wichita Northwest beat (4) Wichita Southeast 46-40 (2) Wichita East beat (7) Wichita West 68-62 (6) Wichita South hammered (3) Wichita North 84-57. Wow, how North has fallen. Hopefully this win for South guarantees them a postseason spot. |

2013 GWAL Semifinals

2013 GWAL Championship
(2) Wichita East beats (5) Wichita Northwest 79-60 to win the GWAL tournament and get the automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. Wichita Heights is no longer projected as a lock, but they are projected in, so I think they'll get in. Wichita North should be NIT bound, with their 22-9 record and 58 RPI, and they could sneak into the NCAA, but I doubt it. Wichita Northwest had a losing conference record, so I don't see them getting into the NIT, probably the CBI. I'm iffy about Wichita South who also had a losing conference record, but did finish with an 18-14 record. I'm saying CBI for them as well. Wichita Southeast has an RPI of 80 and a winning conference record, but only a 17-15 overall record. It's a toss-up between CBI and CIT for them. Bishop Carroll, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, andWichita West all have losing records, so I would expect no postseason for them. |

Other 2013 Conference Tournaments of Interest
Atlantic Ten By virtue of their #1 seed, Xavier got a bye into the quarterfinals and beat (9) LaSalle with ease, 96-60. In the semifinals, they took on (4) Charlotte and beat them 80-60. Then in a rematch, they took on (2) Temple and beat them 70-58 to win the A-Ten tournament and clinch an automatic berth. Missouri Valley In the first round, (7) Wichita State beat (10) Evansville 73-52. Then they upset (2) Illinois St. 77-72 in the quarterfinals, and upset (3) Indiana St. 73-59 in the semifinals to advance to the championship. On the other side of the bracket, (1) Creighton beat (9) Drake 62-59 in the quarterfinals, and hammered (5) Bradley 106-79 in the semifinals. In the MVC Championship game, Creighton edged Wichita St. 59-56. A good run for the Shockers though. SEC (10) Arkansas beat (7) South Carolina 75-71 in the first round. In the quarterfinals, they beat (2) LSU 74-73 in a thriller of a game. And they lost to (11) Kentucky 73-69 in the semis, but probably did enough to get a postseason berth. WAC (7) Hawaii lost in the quarterfinals to (2) Gonzaga 79-67, ending a very painful season. |

2013 Selection Sunday
GWAL Wichita Heights nabbed the 8th seed in the NCAA East Region and will take on Georgetown in the first round. Wichita East got the NCAA automatic bid but only got the 11th seed, taking on Georgia Tech in the first round. Wichita North is the 2nd seed in the NIT South Region, getting a bye into the second round and will take on the winner of (7) Marquette and (10) Bethune-Cookman. Wichita Northwest is the 7th seed in the NIT East Region. They'll take on 10th seed Central Connecticut State in the first round, with the winner taking on (2) Charlotte. Sadly, Wichita South and Wichita Southeast were left out of the postseason, which I don't quite understand. I guess that's what happens when you are the new league in town, you get crapped on. Also going home for the rest of the season are Bishop Carroll, Kapaun Mt. Carmel, and Wichita West. Non-GWAL Xavier (Shane Dreiling) earned the second seed in the NCAA Midwest Region, and will take on Columbia first round. This is a slap in the face, as Temple, a team Xavier beat twice, got the #1 seed in the NCAA West Region. Creighton (Marty Frankamp) is the third seed in the NCAA South Region, and will take on Winthrop in the first round. Arkansas (Ryan Hujing) got the fifth seed in the NIT East Region. They will take on Notre Dame in the second round. Unfortunately, Wichita State (Shannon Elliott) was left out of the postseason. That was a shock as they had a good run in the MVC tournament, but not good enough. Also out of postseason play, but not unexpectedly, is Hawaii (B.B. Gunn). |

NIT First Round
Wichita Northwest survived Central Connecticut State 64-62 in a tough match-up. NIT Second Round Wichita Northwest ends their season with a 71-55 defeat at Charlotte. Arkansas loses 76-67, ending their run as well. Wichita North gets hammered by Marquette, 84-57. Ouch! Last edited by collegesportsfanms : 10-26-2011 at 11:25 AM. |

NCAA First Round
Wichita Heights battled, but fell short against Georgetown, 69-64. Wichita East gets by Georgia Tech, 88-74, keeping the GWAL alive. Xavier hammered Columbia 79-45. Creighton struggled earlier, but handled Winthrop late, 80-63. NCAA Second Round Rats! Wichita East fell to 11th ranked Tennessee 57-49, ending the GWALs run in the postseason. Now its up to our former coaches to win a ship. Xavier got back to business, hammering 20th ranked UL-Lafayette 102-69. Creighton needed overtime, but fought off Auburn, 90-86. NCAA Sweet Sixteen
Xavier saw their season end on a buzzer beater, as #10 Arizona beat them 75-74. Creighton also ended their season, losing 86-77. Well, that's it for the GWAL and for former GWAL coached teams. Now I just have to sim the rest of the postseason and give those results. |

2013 Postseason Wrap-Up
For the first time that I can ever rember seeing in this game, all 4 #1 seeds made it to the final four of the NCAA tournament. In the semifinals, Vanderbilt beat Temple 81-65, and Duke beat Kansas 81-72. Then in the national championship, in a ho-hum game, Duke smashed Vanderbilt 82-62. In the NIT tournament, (1) Illinois beat (2) Charlotte 56-47 in the first semifinal. In the second semifinal, (7) Marquette beat (5) Santa Clara 77-60. The NIT championship was won by Illinois, as they defeated Marquette 62-49. (1) Bradley swept the CBI Championship in 2 games, beating (3) Kentucky 76-62 in the first game, and winning the second game 77-73. The CIT championship was not entertaining at all, as (3) Western Michigan hammered (4) IUPUI 80-50. |

Wichita Heights put Robert Blackmon on the All-NCAA 2nd team, and that was the only national award for the GWAL. Here are a look at the GWAL conference awards.

Not a bad year recruiting wise for the GWAL, with 3 teams in the 40, and 5 teams in the top 100. Kapaun and West failed me by not recruiting anybody, and that will have to improve. And how about Heights getting the first ever 5 star recruit for the GWAL?! Yep, I'm expecting big things out of our conference next season. |

No confrence movement at all for the upcoming season, everything is staying in place.
The biggest movements as far as coaches go came as we lost a former coach. Shannon Elliott decided to retire from basketball coaching. Last time I talked to him, he mentioned something about trying out for the Dallas Cowboys or something. Well, best of luck to him in whatever he does. I thought about doing more with coach movement and focus on some other coaches that retire or get fired, but other than the human coaches, I find a hard time keeping track of it. So I'm just going to focus on current and former GWAL coaches and teams and track their coach movements. I have a lot to keep track of without digging around to see what big time coaches retired or got fired. Hope you all don't mind this bit of news. |

I am going to change up my format a bit for coach evaluations. Since we know there are coaches in the GWAL whos jobs are definitely safe (Wichita Heights, Wichita East, Wichita North) I don't feel the need to evaluate them year after year. What I will do, for the FOFCers out there, your teams, will be evaluated every year, no matter what team you are with. If you're with the GWAL, I'll evaluate you. If you're not, I'll take your evaluation based on what the game says. So my evaluations will look something like this.
Human coaches in the GWAL GWAL coaches on the hotseat (which I will determine prior to the current season and then evaluate them in the offseason) Human coaches not in the GWAL I think in the long run this will save me some typing, (especially since we only have 5 human coaches and don't seem to have any interest in anymore). What do you guys think? |

Coach Evaluations
This will be fairly easy, since I didn't declare any GWAL coaches on the hotseat for this season, and there's only 1 FOFCer outside the GWAL, so I just have you 5 human coaches to evaluate. Deacon Palmer (Bishop Carroll) -- Poor Deacon takes over the worst rated team in the GWAL, and really his only goal is to avoid last place in the GWAL every year. His first 2 years were pretty decent, as he averaged 14 wins. Last year was a step down, at 9 wins. He probably won't be on the hotseat next year, but he is definitely being watched closely. Shane Kormelink (Kapaun Mt. Carmel) -- With a career 48-48 record, Shane has been an average coach. His first season saw a 20 win season and an NIT berth, but he's been slipping ever since, as well as school prestige. He, like Deacon is definitely being watched closely. Kuji Chagulia (Wichita South) -- Kuji also took South to the postseason in his first year, but hasn't been back since. His job is not in jeopardy though, as he is developing great players, and his recruiting hasn't been half bad. Definitely room for improvment though. Rudy Arellano (Wichita Southeast) -- Rudy has dissapointed me. Southeast should be one of the favorites to win the league every year, but they've struggled. Unfortunately good buddy of mine, a team that should be top 2 of the league year in and year out, should not be struggling. You my friend, are going to be the only coach on the hotseat this year. Sorry man. Now there is also B.B Gunn over at Hawaii, who had a not so good season last year. The AD at Hawaii has his hot seat level of average, but has a goal for Hawaii to make the NCAA Tournament this year. Tough goal! B.B. has his work cut out for him. |

Coaching Movement
2 of our coaches got job offers in the first round of head coach movement. Bryan Chadwick (Wichita Heights) got several job offers. Arizona, Milwaukee, Missouri St., Syracuse, Wichita State, and TCU all offered Bryan. I felt that Milwaukee, Missouri St., WSU, and TCU were a step down so I dismissed them. It's no secret that I am going to lose Bryan sooner or later, and this would be the year. There's no way I can't not put him at either Arizona or Syracuse. So it comes down to which one. Syracuse has a higher budget, with $703,750 to spend, as opposed to $686,156 for Arizona. The prestiges are the same, the goals are the same, both to reach the Sweet Sixteen. Arizona had a recruiting class of 16, and Syracuse had a recruiting class of 149. In looking at the roster, Arizona has more underclassmen that look to be stars, and since we have it set up so nobody can declare for the draft early, it looks like I'm saying goodbye to Bryan Chadwick as he packs for Arizona. James Cole (Wichita East) got offers from Milwaukee, Missouri St., Wichita St., and TCU. They were all a step down for Bryan Chadwick, and I'm not so sure they aren't all a step down for James either. I have to admit though, that Milwaukee interested me as a move for James. In the long run, I think James would be better off suited to stay at East. Maybe he'll get some better offers in the next round of recruiting. |
