Mount Rushmore: sax solos

Another slightly obscure Mt. Rushmore. This one came to me during a random play off of my iTunes list and Pandora listening.

Simple enough, the top 4 saxophone solos you've heard. Any Kenny G picks will lead to me going to your house and kicking you squah in dee nutz. Any Billy Joel I'll leave to QuikSand to deal with.

To start things off, here's mine:

Paul Gonsalves (tenor sax) of the Duke Ellington Orchestra from Diminuendo in Blue/Crescendo in Blue (Newport Jazz Festival, 1956)

Only part of it here (not the Newport performance; Gonsalves comes in around 2 minutes), but it will have to do:

Here's my Mt. Rushmore:

Giant Steps - John Coltrane has a mean sax solo and is a bit old school.
Careless Whispers - Wham! is just an honorable mention. I used to hate this song back when I was in Jr. High School, but as I have gotten older I seem to appreciate the music more than anything else and the sax solo is perfect for this song.

Yep, we do. As a sax player myself, I've always loved "Yakkity Sax" (thanks, thesloppy), and it would have been on my list, but I hadn't heard (or read, as in the second vid) of the Gonsalves solo. Very nice.

I played sax in junior high and high school. Hated it. Such a one dimensional, boring instrument.

While "Born in the USA" is within my very small list of truely elite albums if I were to dwindle down my collection from 800-900 to however few, "Nebraska" was the album that really made me feel like I was missing out by not getting into him further. I still need to get some of his earlier stuff, but I'm still around 6 of his albums.
