Optimistic or Pessimistic Sports Fan?

When your team is playing a big game are you optimistic and assume they will win or are you pessimistic and assume your team will lose?

I live in Toledo, the crossroads of the Browns and Lions.

What is this optimism that you speak of?

Man, Thats a tough one. Im normally pretty optimistic.

I guess it depends on the opponent. When Iowa plays Wiscy in football Im usually pessimistic. When we play PsU im usually Optimistic.

I think this is a case by case question.

And you live in Toledo. I imagine pessimism is the norm.

I think it depends on a lot of things.

For example, when Manning was with the Colts, I was optimistic they were going to win every game.

Last year, I didn't think the Colts had any chance to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs.

You gotta be kidding.

I've been a GT fan since the very early 70s. What do you think my outlook is?

I'm Reds, Bengals, OSU and later the Caps. I'm very pessimistic even up several scores.

One of my biggest problems in life is having the expectation of something crushed. I'm ok as long as my mindset is open to whatever possibility, but once it's set on something being set in stone, and that thing changes, I'm done for. So it's much easier to accept the reality of a loss going in with the expectation that it's a real possibility, than to be so cocksure of something and deal with the ramifications of the opposite.

As a UCLA fan, nothing much to be optimistic about these days, We already screwed up Chip Kelly. To non-UCLA fans, Im more of a pessimist. To UCLA fans, Im more of an optimist.

Angels, Rams, Clippers, Ducks, UCLA...

My teams have generally been losing for so long that rhe concept of pessimism is now foreign to me. I metely accept things for what they are.

We'll see how this Clippers thing goes.

Razorback football fan. Cautiously optimistic with new coach but continue to be a pessimist until there is a reason not to be.

I am an eternal optimist, but I guess that comes from 30+ years of coaching, where it is a necessity to have that outlook or you are doing a disservice to your team.

Yeah, as a coach you have to go in with optimism. If not, you need to find something else.

Though there can be a difference between external optimism and internal optimism. If you're coaching Southwest South Dakota State against LSU I would think that inside you pretty much know the outcome but are telling your kids that "they don't think we can win but we are going to prove them wrong."

This question is rhetoric to me. If you really do support a team, you will be optimistic about their chances against any given opponent at all times.
