Dynasty at Night #5 - DWade + Melo take Milwaukee

What gets me when I play this is I take too much time moving teams and players and creating fake guys nobody but me care about and then I've wasted three hours and nothing has even happened.

So tonight, decided to get real and do things quicker.

- Going to take over the Milwaukee Bucks.
- Allowing myself 3 trades for the season.
- Only playing one season.
- Modified 14 game NBA season, because I want to play out each of the games.

The goal is to see how well the team can do. Dwyane Wade will be assigned to the team since he's a FA, Melo will have to be one of my 3 trades and I haven't figured out who I'll swap him for yet as I'd like to trade to at least be passable.

Nobody in Bill Simmons Top 25 after we get Wade can be acquired either.

Should provide for value. I'm aiming for a ball moving team that's fun to watch. Bucks kinda already have that, I'm just trying to get them a bit of veteran toughness through my potential moves.

Then we'll sim, I'll report back and call it a night.

So here's the opening day roster.

I get 2 more trades if I want to make them and it seems like ditching the glut of 3s would give us something to work with. We need a real center and also could stand to have a point guard since I sent Carter-Williams away in the Melo trade.

I could envision a world where you could have Greek Freak, Melo and Parker on the court at the same time (with Parker playing PG) but I feel like that's two dudes who need the ball all the time and one who isn't a strong enough defensive guy to warrant that.

We'll try a few games with it before I make a move, though.

Also the post-season are all 1 game series, just basically imagining all went to Game 7s.

First game of the season was against the Hawks, beat them 69-44 (I'm playing 4 minute quarters) and it wasn't really close. With so many volume shooters, it's hard to stop us. But interior presence is lacking mightily and it's clear to me that you're just never gonna get the ball to that many guys all at once.

None of them are facilitators so it's hard to use them that way, even if you have Wade leading the 2nd unit.

So I'm exploring a trade of Parker. The AI is offering me Doug McDermott and Taj Gibson from the Bulls for Miles Plumee and Jabari Parker. I'm going to take it, Gibson helps us on the front end and of course, the Parker to Chicago storyline is cool fwiw.

Picked up Patrick Beverly and Motiejunas from Houston for Fabricio Johnson (see episode 4) and Ilyasova. I wanted a defensive specialist and distributor not a shoot-first point guard. Not sure if it'll work, but...

That means our rotation looks like this:

C John Henson
PF Taj Gibson
SF Carmelo Anthony
SG Dwyane Wade
PG Patrick Beverley

Greek Freak and OJ Mayo coming off the bench. Interesting 7 man rotation. I'll be curious to see how the rest of the season goes.

Team is ranked 19th in offense and 5th in defense, 15th overall. I'm going to sim some games, mostly because it's getting late.

@ MIAMI (W, 96-81)
VS INDIANA (w, 95-93)
VS DETROIT (L, 121-119)
VS CLEVELAND (W, 122-109)
AT CHICAGO (L, 108-79)
VS CHARLOTTE (W, 102-98)
VS BOSTON (L, 124-114)
VS TORONTO (L, 104-83)

----
As of this moment, that'd put us 6th in the east. With so few games, every loss hurts and wins matter most. Bulls are 8-1 so far. In the West, Golden State is 7-2.

VS ORLANDO (W, 103-95)
AT NEW YORK (W, 100-93)
VS PHILADELPHIA (W, 91-78)
AT WASHINGTON (W, 91-81)

Still the #6 seed in the East, but all but assured of a playoff spot now. Chicago and Cleveland both 11-2. Golden State is 10-2.

Beat Brooklyn to end the regular season at 10-4, tied with Detroit and 2 games behind Chicago and Cleveland.

PLAYOFFS
EAST
Chicago v Boston
Toronto v Detroit
Miami v Milwaukee (they got a higher seed for winning their shitty division)
Cleveland v Indiana

WEST
Golden State v Dallas
OKC v Utah
Houston v San Antonio
Portland v Minnesota

Like I said, one game winner takes all in this setup. Miami should be beatable, but no idea.
