FOOLX 2013 Season Thread

It's the 10 year anniversary of the 15-147 New York Legends, easily the worst collection of talent in the history of FOOLX.

2B Dewey McMillan, the only significant holdover from that team, looks to begin a new era as the Chicago Hitmen attempt to make the playoffs for the first time since 2097.

Not sure if my squad has enough to crack the top 2, but with an average performance from my SP's I think they'll take a run at it.

I'm considering throwing my recent signing, closer Chris Catron, into the rotation. That said, my bullpen is below average so he may be better suited in a super-reliever 120+ IP role.

Good ole Dewey. Very underrated. He may be a "holdover", but he did actually leave New York for quite some time, including five years with the Hibbies. In his first year, he somehow won the Bartolo Liriano in the CL, and then he was still around and I backed my way into a trophy in the third year. Hope he carries some of that karma back to Chicago for ya.

Harris Snares CL Top Batter Award in April

When Billy Harris stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Omaha catcher posted a .400 batting average with 13 home runs, 32 RBIs and scored 31 runs. Harris also worked pitchers for 15 walks to post a .479 on-base percentage.


García Wins Best Bat Trophy in April

The #1 hitter in the Republic League in April was Portland right fielder Jaime García. He was selected the Batter of the Month.

García starred with a .431 batting average, 10 home runs and 35 RBIs.

Mejía Garners CL #1 Pitcher Award

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Roberto Mejía still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 34-year-old starter for Omaha was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 22 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 2.41 ERA in 37.1 innings of work.


Pomerleau Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy

Eliott Pomerleau's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 31-year-old Waikiki hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 31 in 35 innings, logged an ERA of 2.06 and allowed opponents to hit .259 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Adrian Binette just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 24-year-old right fielder for London hit .341 with 31 hits, no home runs and 10 RBI. He also logged 2 walks and compiled a .358 on-base percentage.

Bruce Carrey earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Spring third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Carrey hit .326 with 1 home run, 12 RBIs and 9 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

López Takes CL's Best Bat Award

Manchester left fielder Júlio López certainly turned heads in May with some impressive numbers. He batted .360 for the month and was voted the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 7 home runs, collected 17 RBIs, scored 28 times and put up a .446 on-base percentage.

López is hitting .336 this year with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has 71 hits in 211 at-bats, 32 walks and a .423 on-base percentage. López has played in 54 games.


Portland's García Bags RL Top Batter for May

Jaime García picked up the top batter prize in the Republic League for May.

The Portland right fielder hit .327 with 14 home runs, 38 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also drew 10 walks to post an OBP of .385.

For the year García is batting .380 with 81 hits and 24 home runs. He has scored 44 times and driven in 73.

CL Selects González May's Best Starter

Jaime González took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 25-year-old Mullets starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-1 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 42 batters in 37 innings and compiled a 2.19 ERA.

Presently González has a 5-3 mark in 9 starts with a 3.05 ERA. He has given up 55 hits in 59 innings, struck out 61 and issued 12 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .246 batting average against him.


Republic League Announces #1 Starter

Jimmy Dukes of the Cleveland Naps was on top of his game the entire month of May, capping it off with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors.

He was outstanding in 7 starts with 3 wins and no losses, 41.1 IP, 32 strikeouts and a fine 1.31 ERA.

This season Dukes has compiled a 5-2 record with a 1.62 ERA in 14 starts.

St Louis Rookie Star Sparkles

Carlos Sánchez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young St Louis center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .356 with 2 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Sánchez also scored 19 times and drove in 15 runs.

Currently Sánchez is batting .280 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Pedro Ruíz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Ann Arbor hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .273 average with 27 hits, 1 home run and 10 RBIs.

Thus far in 2113 Ruíz is hitting .282 with 2 home runs, 16 RBIs, 24 runs scored and has compiled a .362 OBP.

Kim Picks Up Best CL Batter Honors for June

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Mun-yeong Kim put together a solid offensive month for Oshawa and was crowned June's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .298 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.



Looking at his present stats, Kim has compiled a .287 batting average in 80 games with a .381 on-base percentage, while hitting 13 home runs and driving in 60 runs.


Becker Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor

Peter Becker used that sweet swing with great success for Ann Arbor last month, garnering him the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 30-year-old center fielder put up a .418 batting average and collected 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Becker currently has a .338 batting average with 110 hits, 15 homers, 59 RBIs, 55 runs scored and a .373 OBP.

Oshima Stands Out, Choice for Best Pitcher

Narihira Oshima took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Washington last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.01 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 44.2 innings and striking out 42.

Oshima has made 17 starts this season, posting 9 wins and 4 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .240 against him and he has 103 strikeouts in 118 innings with a 2.14 ERA.


RL Announces June's Best Starter

The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Dave Kennedy of the Cleveland Naps. He really dominated league hitters, finishing June with a 5-1 won-lost mark and a 1.85 ERA.

The Naps ace made 7 starts and surrendered 40 hits in 48.2 innings. He struck out 32 and walked 12.

So far this season Kennedy has compiled a 8-7 record with a 3.57 ERA.

CL Chooses Rookie of the Month

Youngster Armando Núñez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Manchester deserved the honor, batting .291 with 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Núñez enjoy the limelight.

So far this year Núñez is batting .234 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 26 runs scored.


Ann Arbor Rookie Hits His Way to RL Honor

Torrid July Gets Hendricks CL #1 Batter Trophy

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Joseph Hendricks can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 34-year-old left fielder for Havana was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In July he batted .424 with 4 home runs, 14 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

So far this season Hendricks has gotten 132 hits in 415 at-bats for a .318 batting average with 15 home runs. His stats include 45 RBIs and 76 runs scored. He has played in 106 games.


Wells Crowned Top RL Hitter in July

July's Republic League Batter of the Month trophy was claimed by first baseman Keith Wells of the Maricopa Rattlers.

Last month he compiled a .371 batting average with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs, 17 runs scored and a .442 on-base percentage.

This year Wells has hit at a .307 clip with 119 hits, 30 home runs, 76 RBIs and 70 runs scored.

Albert Is July's Top Starter

The Pitcher of the Month for July has been picked and the Continental League award went to Havana hurler, Ken Albert.

During the month, Albert was impressive with a 1.49 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 36.1 innings he struck out 19 and gave up 31 hits and 9 walks.

This season-to-date, Albert has fashioned a 7-9 mark and 4.53 ERA in 129 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .269 against him and he has logged 91 strikeouts.


RL Pick for Top Pitcher in July is Dawson

Artie Dawson has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Naps bullpen ace collected 10 saves and 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .228 average and posting a 0.57 ERA and a 0-1 record.

To date, Dawson has 26 saves. In 51 relief appearances he has tossed 65.1 innings, fanned 74 and given up 12 walks with 5 wins and 7 losses. The Cleveland reliever has recorded a 1.38 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .227 when he on the mound.

CL Announces Rookie of the Month

24-year-old Gary Owens is deceptively poised for such a young man. In 5 starts he bagged 3 wins in July and took home the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The London hurler logged a 3-0 record, 22 strikeouts in 29.1 innings, held opponents to a .268 average and compiled an ERA of 3.07.

Owens has started 21 times this year, pitched 114 innings, fanned 80 batters and walked 58. His current record is 7 wins and 7 losses with a 4.34 ERA.


Ruíz Named RL's Best Rookie

In July, Pedro Ruíz had an exceptional month at the plate and hit his way to the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 24-year-old Ann Arbor third baseman played in 25 games and hit .307 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs. Ruíz also scored 13 times and drove in 6 runs.

This year Ruíz is hitting .294 with 6 home runs.

August's Best Batter Announced

Manchester's Júlio López had a productive August and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Continental League.

The 29-year-old left fielder stood out at the plate with a .455 batting average, 3 home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Jaime García Named Best RL Batter in August

Veteran Carlos Morales put together quite a successful stretch in August for the Manchester Terriers, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

CL Announces Best Batter Award

Beach balls were coming in at Cris Arévalo in September and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .381 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 31-year-old Omaha shortstop collected 40 hits last month in 27 games. He put up 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 41 runs scored. Arévalo also drew 25 walks and compiled a .496 on-base percentage.

This season Arévalo is hitting .320 with 197 hits, 23 home runs, 104 RBIs, scored 158 runs and played in 161 games.

Portland right fielder Jaime García certainly turned heads in September with some impressive numbers. He batted .421 for the month and was voted the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 6 home runs, collected 27 RBIs, scored 27 times and put up a .464 on-base percentage.

This year García is hitting .336 with 48 home runs and 156 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .394 clip and scored 114 runs.

Luis Castro had a very good September and has been rewarded with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month Award. The London bullpen specialist was very effective, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead.

The Bishops ace starred with 8 saves in 13 relief appearances, logging 14.1 innings, 12 strikeouts, 6 walks and a 0.00 ERA. Castro finished the month with 2 wins and no losses -- and was named the league's best pitcher.

This season Castro has made 79 relief appearances with 41 saves. In 90.2 innings he has fanned 94 hitters and recorded 5 wins and 3 losses with a 1.49 ERA.


Romano Snags RL Top Hurler Trophy

When the Axemen skipper wrote Romano on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in September he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 2.61 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted Axemen star pitched 38 innings, fanned 24 and held opposing teams to a .213 average.

For his excellent mound work Romano was named the RL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This year Romano has compiled a 9-14 mark with a 4.29 ERA in 33 starts.

Sánchez Named Newcomer of the Month

Carlos Sánchez put up eye-catching numbers in September to earn himself the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The center fielder for the St Louis Hops batted .379 with 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored as he proved he does deserve to play in the Continental League.

This year Sánchez is hitting .292, produced 76 RBIs and 17 home runs, scored 82 times and gotten on base at a .347 rate.

In September Pedro Ruíz put up award-winning numbers, batting his way to a Rookie of the Month award in the Republic League.

The Ann Arbor third baseman stroked 29 hits as he compiled a .309 average with no home runs and 11 RBIs.

Presently Ruíz is batting .313 with 181 hits and 8 home runs. He has knocked in 57 runs and scored 76 times.

If not for old Manuel Ramirez (8-14/5.63 ERA) I think my team might have been a touch closer. That missed FA sim where I went after multiple SP's really jacked me up.

It's a little disappointing, albeit in a super close race from bottom to top, to be a couple games out in 3rd place at one of the last time checks only to drop out of contention.

It's not as bad as the time I spent an hour getting my team in shape for the season and proceeding to forget to export causing me to lose half my team to free agency. Or time I put Franco as my 6th starter for spring training and forgot to put him in the bullpen for the season and he went 3-18 and my team finished 1 GB for the post season.
