Valencia C.F., S.A.D. boss Unai Emery's interest in signing Liverpool's José Manuel Reina has really got fans drooling at the prospect. The 27-year-old goalkeeper is seen as a perfect addition to the Valencia squad and the fans are praising Emery's vision and good judgement to want to bring such a player to the club. Reina signed for league champions Liverpool in 2005.
In a related story Nikolay Mihaylov has signed a new contract with Liverpool. The deal will keep him at the club until Sunday 30th June 2013. 21-year old Nikolay Mihaylov is by many expected to be the future replacement for José Manuel Reina and it was key for Liverpool to keep him with the team.

Switzerland bounced back with a nice win over Japan in the first game today. Alexander Feri (Basel) scored his 40th goal for Switzerland after 14 minutes. Just before the half Valon Behrami scored an easy goal when he was first on the repost when Gökhan Inler (Udinesse) shot hit the upright. The final goal after 78 minute was scored by Alexander Feri again when he got hold of a loss ball in the penalty arrear and put it away easily.

This was perhaps the most entertaining game of the World Cup this fare. It started after 14 minutes when Josè Romero scored the first goal of the game. After 32 minutes Steven Piennar (Everton) scored a beauty on a shot from the edge of the arrear. After just one minute of play in the second half the home nation took the lead on a goal from Elrio Van Heerden (Blackburn). Benni McCarthy (Blackburn) then scored on a questionable penalty after 84 minutes. Two minutes in to OT Chile got one back after an own goal by South Africa but they never got any closer.

Its difficult to win games when you don’t create chances. After two games USA is still without a clear cut goal chance. In today’s game they only managed two shot all game and none of them was even close to goal. Argentina didn’t play much better but still got a well deserved win on a Lucho Gonzalèz (Marseille) goal after 68 minutes of play.

England’s second game of this World Cup was a one-sided performance. England took 28 shots and had 4 clear cut chances. The first goal came after 40 minutes by Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd) when the Saudi’s completely forgot about him on a corner kick. Half an hour later Saudi Arabia once again messed up on a corner kick and this time England’s captain John Terry (Chelsea) got the easy goal.

Geremi (Newcastle) gave Cameroon a great start when he scored on a free kick after just 4 minutes of play. After that they switched to a very defensive formation with only one player on top. Berbatov and Bulgaria did produce some chances but the African team was good to keep the ball in the team and managed to hang on to the win that put them thru to the second round together win England.

Before the tournament started Denmark was ranked 4th in the world. Today they took a huge step out of the World Cup with an embarrassing loss to Australia. For 88 minutes Denmark had the ball the most but failed to create clear cut goal chances. Instead Australia took full advantage when the Danish offside trap failed and Richard Garcia (Hull) scored the winning goal. Denmark is now last in group G and they need help in the last round to advance to the final 16.

Liverpool have told any clubs thinking of bidding for goalkeeper José Manuel Reina that he is not for sale at any price. The club's 'hands-off' warning comes after recent media speculation linked the player with strong interest from Valencia C.F., S.A.D. Reds boss Thomas Northwood told Marca that Reina was an important asset to the club and he would not be allowing him to leave.

After Denmark’s loss to Australia last night the Danish press has already started the talk about who will replace Morten Olsen as coach for the team if they fail to qualify to the next round. Top candidates in the press are Michael Laudrup and FC København coach Ståle Solbakken. Liverpool coach Tom Northwood is also getting a few mentions as Olsen’s replacement.

Before the last games of group it was already decided that Holland and France was thru to the next round. Still it was an interesting game as I would decide who got first place in the group. For Canada and Ghana it was only pride at stake. Ghana was clearly the better team on the day and got the winning goal after 16 minutes from Matthew Amoah (Shakhta) when the Canadian defends failed to clear the ball. Canada is sent home from the 2010 World Cup without scoring a single goal.
In the match for first place France got off to a terrible start. Already in the 25th minute Thierry Henry had to leave the field with an injury. Then just 4 minutes later Philippe Mexès (Roma) was sent off when he almost injured Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) with a two footed tackle. It only took Holland 2 minutes to take advantage when 34-year old Clarence Seedorf (AC Milan) curled a shot in to the top corner for the early lead. After that it was Holland all the way. They allowed France to have the ball but it was Holland who created the best chances and in the 84th minute Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (AC Milan) scored Holland’s second on a perfectly executed counterattack to secure the win.
Twenty-nine year-old striker Dirk Kuyt came on as a late substitute for Holland but had little time to make an impact. This was a bit of a surprise as Kuyt is still undergoing treatment for his injured elbow.

70.000 showed up in Durban to watch two teams who had nothing to play for in the match between Uruguay and Nigeria. The two teams didn’t show much and the most excitement during the game was a red card for Nigeria’s Dickson Etuhu (Fulham) was shown in the 68th minute. The game finished 0-0 and both teams must leave South Africa without scoring a single goal. Scotland had the upper hand as they would win the group with a draw against Italy. The first goal came after 25 minutes when Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan) scored his 10th goal for Italy when his shot went inn form 25-yds out. Just before the half Italy was down a man when Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus) was sent of for a stupid free kick that earned him his second yellow card. Italy will also be without Gattuso in there next match due to yellow cards. In the second half Scotland had the ball the most and in the 77th minute it paid off. Substitute Kenny Miller (Rangers) ran from the Italian defends and scored the equaliser.
The result means that Scotland wins the group and will play France while Italy will go up against group B winners Holland in the round of 16.

In a league which generates in excess of £156M in sponsorship, Manchester United attracted the highest sponsorship deals this season, raking in around £42M from their sponsors. By contrast, the lowest earner in the top flight this season was struggling West Ham United who generated £400K in sponsorship. The average amount of money earned through sponsorship by Premier Division clubs was £7.75M.
The Coca-Cola Championship clubs generated a total of around £24M from sponsorship this season with Queens Park Rangers' sponsors backing their team with around £6.75M. By contrast, Blackpool's annual earnings from sponsorship were around the £50K mark. The average amount of money earned through sponsorship by Coca-Cola Championship clubs was £1M.

Transfer-rumour victim José Manuel Reina has announced that he has no intention of leaving Liverpool. The goalkeeper told worldsoccer.com that despite strong speculation linking him with Valencia, he is happy to remain at Anfield for the foreseeable future. Reina signed for league champions Liverpool in 2005.

In Cap Town it was Croatia who detonated the first real upset in this years World Cup. Brazilian born Eduardo (Arsenal) opened the scoring for Croatia after 14 minutes when he put his head to a perfect cross. After 30 minutes a Brazil with Kakà on the bench, pulled back level with a goal by Robinho (Man City). 3 minutes in to the second half Croatia completely outplays the Brazilian defends and Luka Modric (Tottenham) is the man with the last foot on the ball. Croatia gets away with a well deserved win and also wins group B. In the other game between North Korea and Costa Rica the two teams played to a draw. Costa Rica took the early lead (14th minute) by Marvin Quesada but a late goal (71st minute) by Pak Joung-Chul settled the final result.

Albert Riera (Liverpool) scored after just 3 minutes of play on a free kick from outside the penalty arrear. Christian Romaric (Sevilla) the equalised after 27 minutes when his shot hit a Spanish defender and completely fooled the keeper. With this score at half time the Czech Republic was ready for the final-16. They had played the first half against a South Korea team with nothing to play for to a 0-0 draw. Just 3 minutes inn to the second half disaster hit for the Czechs. Park Ji-Sung (Man Utd) scored a goal on a counter attack for South Korea and suddenly it was Ivory Coast who would follow Spain to the second round. Czech Republic pressed on for the equalizer but instead it was Park Ji-Sung who got his second for the day after 75 minutes and that finally crushed the Czech Republics hope to advance. This results sets up a fascinating game between Brazil and Spain in the round of 16.

Liverpool's Adam Pepper is reportedly a transfer target for Aston Villa. Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill is believed to be interested in the 18 year-old attacking midfielder and could be looking to bring him to Villa Park in the near future. Pepper, who is valued at £850K, currently has 4 years remaining on his £120 p/w deal at Anfield. Liverpool has issued a hands off warning for the young player.

Controversy today hit the World Cup. In group E game it was known before the games started that both Germany and Serbia would be thru to the next round with a draw. Therefore none of the teams was willing to take any chances and played with 11 men behind the ball at all times. The 45553 fans were treated to two times 45 minutes of ball-rolling on the midfield with hardly any player breaking a sweat and a 0-0 result that sends both teams thru to the final-16.
The result in the other match left Mexico and Egypt out in the cold no matter what the result. Mexico got an early goal by Edgar Ivan Pacheco (Juventus) who scored his first ever goal for Mexico after just 5 minutes of play. An Egypt team without Mido then took over the match but had to wait until the 85th minute for the equaliser. Walid Ashraf was the goal scorer.

USA had the chance to make it to the second round with a win over Switzerland but for that to happen they would have to start scoring some goals. The US team got there goal after 80 minutes by Jozy Altidore (Villarreal) but then it was to late was the Swish had already scored a goal of there own after 60 minutes when Erren Derdiyok (Leverkusen) scored after a mistake in the US defends. In the other game Argentina just had to get the time to go without any injuries in the game against Japan. Gonzalo Higuanin (Real Madrid) scored his first of the tournament after 53 minutes and id didn’t matter much that Japan got one back for the draw on a goal by Hirofumi Yano after 79 minutes.

After Mexico’s exit from the World Cup earlier today it became clear that Mexico are looking to employ a new manager and are welcoming applications. Manager Javier Aguirre was sacked almost before he left the stadium after his team went winless in the World Cup group E. The Mexico national team are currently ranked 10th in the world rankings and their main rivals are U.S.A.

Liverpool will kick-off the 2010/11 English Premier Division season with a trip to Everton on Saturday 14th August. Liverpool's first match at Anfield will be against Sunderland on Tuesday 17th August. The Reds travel to Old Trafford on Saturday 18th December for their derby against Man Utd with the return match at Anfield scheduled for Saturday 7th May. Meanwhile, the traditional Boxing Day fixture sees Liverpool entertain Chelsea at Anfield.
Liverpool wraps up the season away to Chelsea on Sunday 15th May.

The minimum expectation for Liverpool is that the team challenge for the Premier Division title this season. The board would be prepared to give Thomas Northwood a transfer budget of £30M and a wage budget of £1.1M p/w for the team’s current level of ambition. Dimitar Berbatov (Man U) and his Bulgaria was already out of this years World Cup but still decided to put on a show. The 29-year old attacker scored 4 goals for his team today (7,9,29 and 79th minute) and moved to the top of the top-score list. The three first goals were all scored with the head after crosses from the right. After he game his was presented with the highest rating (9.6) this fare in the World Cup. Georgi Peev (Amkar) added a 5th goal for Bulgaria in the 83rd minute before Saudi Arabia got a consolation goal in overtime by Abudllah Al-Shahrani after a horrible performance by Liverpool keeper Nikolay Mihaylov. England got the easy win over Cameroon when a cross from Steven Gerrard was put in to the net for an own-goal by Jean II Makoun (Lyon) after just 3 minutes of play. England moves on to the second round as the only team beside Croatia with 3 wins and Cameroon takes second place in the group.

The final two teams to make the final-16 were found by goal-difference after all four teams ended up with 4 points in group G. Chile won 3-0 over Australia. Chile totally dominated the game but had to wait until the 60th minute for the first goal. Rodrigo Becerra scored the first goal and Arturo Vidal (Leverkusen) the second after 79 minutes. The 3rd came just 3 minutes later by Alexis Sànchez (Udinesse). This left Chile with 4 points and a +2 goal differential and Australia also with 4 points but a -2 goal score. In the other game it only took Denmark 12 minutes to break the home nations offside trap and go up 1-0 on a goal by Mikkel Thygesen (FC Midtjylland). Thygesen got a second just two minutes in to the second half and South Africa was now in danger of being the first home nation not to make the final-16. Jon Dahl Tomasson (Feyenoord) then closed the game with a 3rd Danish goal. In the dying minutes South Afericas humiliation was complete when Sandile Barker was sent of for a red card. Denmark take second place in the group with 4 points and a +2 goal differential but behind Chile because of fewer goals scored.

A consortium led by Paris-based businessman Simon Tahar has successfully completed a takeover of Blackburn Rovers, replacing former chairman John Williams. The turmoil is unlikely to be over at Ewood Park however, with rumours that the new chairman will want to replace current manager Sam Allardyce. According to Sporting Life, Tahar has had strong business links with Ireland in the past and is believed to want to install Joe Kinnear as the new Blackburn boss.

Liverpool supporter spokesperson, Richard Martin, has announced that Fernando Torres has been voted Liverpool's Player of the Year by the fans.
The Best Eleven for this season was also announced today.
Fernando Torres was the pick of the players, the striker having made 53 appearances and scored 35 goals for the team at an average rating of 7.20 this season.
The rest of the Best Eleven squad was: Daniel Agger, Alberto Aquilani, Yossi Benayoun, Jamie Carragher, Diego Cavalieri, Fábio Aurélio, Steven Gerrard, Emiliano Insúa, Glen Johnson, Dirk Kuyt, Lucas, Javier Mascherano, David N'Gog, José Manuel Reina, Albert Riera, Nikola Saric and Martin Skrtel.

Liverpool will play Manchester United in the English Community Shield. The game will be played at Wembley on Sunday 8th August 2010. Liverpool's opponents are the most successful side ever to have played in the Community Shield, having won the competition fifteen times.

The party was quickly over for Scotland. Already after 3 minutes France was up by a goal after Hatem Ben Arfa (O Marseille) got the early score. It got worse after 15 minutes when the Scottish keeper was looking for a cross on the free kick but Yoann Gourcuff (Bordeaux) decided to shot directly instead. The last France goal came after 64 minutes when Thierry Henry (Barcelona) finished off a nice franc attack. Only bad news for France was that Henry was injured when scoring and his return to the tournament is very questionable.
Scotland only took 2 shots all game (to Frances 20) and none of them was even close to the goal.

Liverpool has announced the latest figures from ongoing season ticket sales. As of today, the club has sold 7296 season tickets for the upcoming season. The board expects the club to sell another 26400 season tickets in the following weeks, taking the number of season ticket holders for the upcoming season up to around 33700 in total.

It looked like OT was needed for a long time but as so many times before Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) was at the right place at the right time and just 5 minutes before full time he scored the game winner. The man behind the goal was Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan) with a beautiful pass after he intercepted a bad pass from Mark van Bommel (FC Byern Munich).

In what may be seen by many to be a surprise announcement, Luton have re-appointed Marvin Johnson as club manager. They say you should never go back but Johnson clearly couldn't resist the Luton board's offer to return to Kenilworth Road.

One of the big favourites to win it all would have to leave the tournament today when Spain and Brazil met already in the second round. The game was decided after 41 minutes of play when Robinho (Man City) took the ball at midfield and moved past 4 Spanish defenders before leaving it to Luìs Fabiano (Sevilla) for the easy score. Spain pressed for an equaliser but never got really close and never got there game going with several players having an off-day. Only 4 Spanish players finished the game with a rating over 7.0.

Ivory Coast and Croatia played the best game of the World Cup this fare. The first half was nothing special and finished 0-0. But after just 13 minutes the fireworks started. Ivory Coast was first on the scoreboard when Salomon Kalou (Chelsea) when his finished off a nice counter attack. Just two minutes later Ivica Olic (FC Byern Munich) equalised for Croatia. Olic then committed a cheep penalty after 77 minutes and Ivory Coast was back on top. But just two minutes before full time it was Croatia who was rewarded a harsh penalty and the game went to OT. 7 minutes in to OT Croatia had a player sent off had had to finish the game with just 10 players. After 108 minutes of play 19-years old debutant Gohi Bi (At. Madrid) scored but again Croatia pulled one back just 2 minutes later this time by Eduardo and the game was heading for penalties. Both teams scored on there seven first penalties. Then the pressure got to young Gohi Bi and Milan Badelj (PSG) then put Croatia in to the final-8 where they will play Italy. The win for Croatia also secured that at least one European team will be in this years World Cup finals as the bottom part of the bracket is now only European teams.

55 Liverpool players were ready for the team’s first practise before the 2010/11 season. Fitness coach Dave Galley is pleased to announce that there are no current problems to report and the Liverpool squad has a clean bill of health. Galley will continue to monitor the players' health and fitness and report back regularly.

The first game of the day was an ugly one with two red cards. In the 56th minute Serbia lost Neven Subotic (Dortmund) when he got his second red card of the day. In the 76th minute Argentina lost a man of there own when Martìn Demicheli (FC Byern Munich) also received his second yellow card. The tie was broken just 2 minutes before full time when Carlos Tevez (Man City) shot from 25-yards out sailed in to the top right corner. After a shaky qualifying tournament for Argentina they suddenly move up as one of the favourites in the World Cup.

Germany completely dominated a very defensive Switzerland. It took 80 minutes before Armin Mies scored the winning goal. Germany had 9 shots on goal compared to Switzerland’s just one.

The biggest upset of the tournament happened today. The country who invented football was knocked out of the World Cup by a nation with just 5mil people. Denmark (4th) might have been ranked higher on the World ranking then England before the start of the tournament but still nobody believed that a Denmark team that struggled to get out of perhaps the weakest group in this year World Cup would have a chance against the “greatest” football nation. Everything went wrong from the start for England. Already after 2 minutes if went wrong for England. On a corner Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd) failed to clear the ball and Wayne Bridge (Man City) failed to mark and it was easy for Per Krøldrup (Fiorentina) to head in the ball to give Denmark the early lead. Before England had a chance to regroup Denmark hit again. Jesper Grønkjær (FC København) made a fool of Glen Johnsson (Liverpool) on the wing and his cross was put in to the net by Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal) who out jumped John Terry (Chelsea). The clock showed 10 minutes played and England was down by 2 goals. Just 5 minutes later England pulled one back when Denmark failed to clear a corner and Frank Lampard (Chelsea) scored. This was the start of a long England press but most of the attacks were finished off with long range shots that never became really dangerous. After 58 minutes of play in the second half Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd) was sent of when he hit Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal) with an elbow. That didn’t make it any easier against a Danish team who were good to keep the ball within the team. Liverpool used the first day without World Cup football to sign manager Thomas Northwood to a new contract. The new contract will pay Northwood £58.000 pr week and last out the 2012 season.
The new contract makes Northwood the 4th highest paid manager in the Premier league behind Ancelotti (Chelsea), Ferguson (Man Utd) and Wenger (Arsenal). His previous contract was worth £40.000 pr week and was signed when he took over Liverpool before last season as an unknown and let the club to both the EPL title and the Champions League win.

Liverpool's young goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis is being targeted by Juventus manager Ciro Ferrara. Ferrara is said to be very keen to add to the squad at Olimpico and believes the goalkeeper will fit the bill perfectly. Bouzanis has recently revealed that he was disappointed to find himself transfer-listed at Anfield and is determined to prove himself.

Clubs in England today have decided on their retained list and have released the players they no longer require. Liverpool has signed seventeen year old Belgian central midfielder Florent Cuvelier from Portsmouth for £500,000. Cuvelier, who played for Mouscron before joining Portsmouth, is said to have welcomed the move and the chance of a fresh start. New Liverpool central defender Luke Wilkinson has described his move from Portsmouth to Anfield as a 'dream come true'. On completing his signing, the eighteen year old central defender told the press that when a club like Liverpool show interest in you and then make a bid it's a fantastic compliment for any player.

Spanish league runners-up Barcelona have maintained their status as the richest club in the world, according to the latest survey of football's finances. Russian Premier Division team CSKA Moscow were the main climbers, rising from 78th to 43rd while Spanish LIGA BBVA outfit Zaragoza were the least successful, dropping from 55th to 84th.

Italy keeps grinding there way thru the World Cup tournament. Today they got away with the penalty win in a game against Croatia where they were outplayed. Both teams played very defensive football with lost of players behind the bal in the first half. In the second Croatia didn’t touch the ball before Italy scored. Antonio Di Natale (Man Utd) was the last man on the ball for Italy. That made Italy move even lower and Croatia took over the game. The equalizer came after 61 minutes when Iviac Olic (FC Byern Munich) got to much room. Not much happened the rest of the match and in OT the only news was the red card for Daniele de Rossi (Roma). Croatia missed the 5th and final penalty when the asked a 20-year old rookie to take the deciding shot.

Coach John McMahon was present as Liverpool Reserves stormed to 7-1 victory against Corby Town at Prenton Park this evening in the first training match of the new season. McMahon singled out Adam Pepper as the team's top performer. The attacking midfielder scored a goal to round off an impressive display.

FC Bayern are interested in buying Liverpool's Lucas. They would like to know how much Liverpool want for the player.

The first goal of the game was a beauty. From 25-yards out Felipe Melo (Juventus) put the ball in the top right corner to give Brazil the early lead. After 36 minutes a France team without an injured Henry drew level on a goal by Karim Benzema (Real Madrid). Then just before the half Brazil scored on a penalty after catching France on a counterattack. Just 5 minutes in to the second half Brazil again caught France on a counter and Kakà (Real Madrid) had no problems setting Robinho (Man City) up for the easy goal. France did get a goal back after 75 minutes when Yoann Gourcuff (Bordux) scored but when they had a man sent off 5 minutes later it was all over. With Chile and Argentina playing in the other quarterfinal in the part of the draw we are guarantied a final between a South American team and a European team.

The £10mil deal taking Aston Villa's James Milner to Liverpool has been cancelled. It was Liverpool’s manager Thomas Northwood who pulled the plug on the deal that have been negotiated in secrecy the last week between Aston Villa and Liverpool. Liverpool have not given any official reason for cancelling the deal.
The team is currently sitting on a £30mil transfer budget but have still not signed any new players for the upcoming season.

Porto have made an offer of £1,000,000 for Andriy Voronin. Liverpool wasted no time accepting the offer. Voronin has been making £28.000 pr week all of last season without being anywhere near the first team. Its rumoured that Thomas Northwood was close to releasing Voronin last season when the club couldn’t find any buyers from the Ukrainian attacker.

Despite the planned backroom meeting later this week, an urgent message has come through requiring immediate attention. John McMahon has felt the need to issue a warning that it appears that the transfer offer for Ronny Brinkmann has become public knowledge.
McMahon has indicated that he doesn't know the source of the leak, but feels that interest in the player in question could now intensify.

With today’s performance Kakà (Real Madrid) became the hero in all of Brazil. He crushed Argentina almost on his own scoring in the first minute of both the first and second half. The first goal came before Argentina had even touched the ball. The second goal was create by Felipe Melo (Juventus) and left Kakà with the easy goal. Dunga appeared in good spirits as he met journalists in the wake of Brazil's 2 - 1 World Cup Semi Final victory over Argentina. The Brazilian Football Review chose the main focus point for the conference with journalist Basílio Araújo asking, "Kaká picked up the man of match award for your side today. How did you rate his performance?"
Dunga's response was, "Kaká was absolutely outstanding today."
There is speculation that Kaká will be buoyed by Dunga's positive words. Furthermore, it is likely to be a reaction that is shared by Kaká's team-mates.

The first team didn’t have an impressive start to the season but the reserves had no such troubles. For the second game in a row the Liverpool reserves scores 7!! goals in a single game. This time they blew away Beasoncfield with a dominating 7-0 win. The Liverpool backups were up 5-0 after just 15 minutes of play. The best performance was by 30-year old Sotiris Kyrgiakos who scored two goals but also Nabil El Zhar showed good things today.

Andriy Voronin's agent has indicated that his client has rejected the contract offer from Porto. He feels he is deserving of a better basic salary.

A report on Football.fr speculates that both OM and Girondins Bordeaux are hot on the trail of Liverpool's Argentinean star Emiliano Insúa. His agent has added fuel to the fire by claiming that his client could be tempted by a move to France in the near future.
Insúa signed for league champions Liverpool in 2007 and it’s highly unlikely that Liverpool will be willing to sell him. Liverpool manager Thomas Northwood also issued a hands off warning.

Liverpool and Fluminense today’s agreed terms on a transfer for 19-year old left midfielder João Paulo. Fluminense's João Paulo is said to be very happy at having agreed terms with Liverpool. After Italy's shock 2 - 1 defeat to Germany yesterday, Fabio Cannavaro was one of the few players to brave the press. Cannavaro gave an interview to the Italian Football Informer in which the 36 year-old said the result was disappointing for all concerned and that they'd naturally strive to ensure a similar performance isn't repeated.

Roma have withdrawn their offer for Dinamo Kiev's Artem Milevskyi. According to many experts it only a question of time before Milevskyi will be bought by one of the big clubs in Europe.

Liverpool is still looking to add a new left midfielder before the start of the season. The latest target Liverpool have been looking at is Kim Källström from Olympique Lyonnais.

João Paulo's move to Liverpool has been put on hold after his initial application for a work permit was turned down. Liverpool have decided not to appeal against the decision.

Blackpool have made an offer to loan Liverpool's Nabil El Zhar for 6 months. Blackpool feel the player would become a valuable member of the first-team. El Zhar signed for league champions Liverpool in 2006. Liverpool have announced the latest figures from ongoing season ticket sales. As of today, the club have sold 17621 season tickets for the upcoming season.
The board expect the club to sell another 16100 season tickets in the following weeks, taking the number of season ticket holders for the upcoming season up to around 33700 in total.

Olympique Lyonnais' Kim Källström has put pen to paper on a lucrative 4 year deal worth £9,000,000. Källström, 27, arrived at Stade de Gerland from Stade Rennais FC for a fee of £7M in 2006. This will likely put a stop to all speculations abut a move to Liverpool for the Swede.

Brazil's Kaká has won the World Cup Best Player award.
France's Yoann Gourcuff and Croatia's Luka Modric were left trailing in the wake of Kaká, coming in second and third respectively.
Bulgaria's Dimitar Berbatov has won the World Cup Golden Boot award. Berbatov has been the top striker in the World Cup this season, scoring 4 goals. With Berbatov, Eduardo and Ivica Olic all finishing level, Berbatov won the award by virtue of having played in fewer matches.
Brazil's Júlio César has won the World Cup Best Goalkeeper award. Italy's Gianluigi Buffon came in second having put up a close fight for the award, whilst Iker Casillas of Spain claimed third place.

Liverpool's Glen Johnson is reportedly a transfer target for Manchester City. Man City manager Mark Hughes is believed to be interested in the 25 year-old right-back and could be looking to bring him to The City Of Manchester Stadium in the near future.
Johnson, 25, arrived at Anfield from Portsmouth for a fee of £17M in 2009.

West Ham have made an offer worth £3,200,000 plus future incentives for Mikkel Thygesen. Interest in Thygesen is thought to be high, with Liverpool and Feyenoord among the clubs rumoured to be looking at the player. Mikkel Thygesen was part of the Danish World Cup team the made the final-16 in South Africa earlier this month and had some impressive games that opened eyes among scouts.

Barcelona have decided to splash the cash on Napoli's Fabio Quagliarella. The deal bringing the twenty-seven year-old Italian striker to the club is thought to be around £13,500,000. Subject to conditions, however, the transfer may eventually rise to £15,750,000.

Blackburn have decided to splash the cash on Dinamo Kiev's Ognjen Vukojevic. The deal bringing the twenty-six year-old Croatian defensive midfielder to the club is thought to be around £7,500,000.

Galatasaray have made an offer to loan Liverpool's Emiliano Insúa until the end of the season. Galatasaray have offered £1.5M as a payment up front for the loan deal. Galatasaray feel the player would act as cover for the first-team. Insúa signed for league champions Liverpool in 2007.
Interest in Insúa is high, with a number of clubs said to be monitoring the situation. With offers already tabled from Sevilla and Valencia there will certainly be a battle for his signature.

Liverpool have opened their cheque book to sign twenty-one year-old Argentinean striker Matías Defederico for £6,500,000 from Corinthians. An efficient performance from Liverpool saw them run out 3 - 0 winners over Sevilla F.C., S.A.D. at Anfield.
Legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard got Liverpool off to a flyer by scoring a powerful effort before the clock showed one minute. An error from Federico Fazio allowed striker Fernando Torres to score a powerful close range header just 7 minutes later and Argentina captain Javier Mascherano completed the rout with a screamer from the edge of the area on 12 minutes.

Liverpool declared there captain and vice-captain for the forthcoming season. Steven Gerrard has been selected as captain and Jamie Carragher has been selected as vice-captain. Steven Gerrard was also the captain last season while Javier Mascherano was the current Liverpool vice-captain
Before selecting Jamie Carragher Liverpool assistant has reminded that changing existing captains can have adverse affects on team morale, potentially annoying the person replaced and his allies within the team.

Feyenoord have made an offer to loan Liverpool's Ruben Yttergård Jenssen until the end of the season. Feyenoord have offered £325K as a payment up front with a view to paying £1.7M to make the move permanent. Feyenoord feel the player would become a valuable member of the first-team.
Yttergård Jenssen, 22, arrived at Anfield from Tromsø for a fee of £1.5M in 2009.
Interest in Yttergård Jenssen is thought to be high, with Blackburn, Bolton, Deportivo and Fenerbahçe among the clubs rumoured to be looking at the player.
They have set a deadline of Saturday 14th August 2010 for Liverpool's decision.
Liverpool central midfielder Ruben Yttergård Jenssen is also a transfer target for Fenerbahçe. Sari Kanaryalar boss Christoph Daum would not disclose if or when he would be making his move for the player however.

David Moss watched Man Utd's convincing 4 - 1 Friendly victory over Bologna last Wednesday and noted that Man Utd play a defensive 4-4-2 formation and often look to draw the opposition onto them before attempting a counter-attack.

After appearing to just have the edge in this hard-fought battle, Liverpool's players and fans will be very disappointed to have lost 1 - 0 to a Manchester United team they consider to be their equal.
The first incident of note was after just 10 minutes of play when Wayne Rooney had to be carried of the field after he collided with Javier Mascherano. The next important moment then came after 22 minutes when Liverpool were denied claims by Steven Gerrard for a penalty. Just before halftime Fernando Torres had to come off the field after picking up an what looked to be a minor injury.
10 minutes in to the second half nn error from Jamie Carragher allowed Bulgaria captain Dimitar Berbatov to score a placed shot. Carragher missed the interception and Berbatov scored easily.
Liverpool were often prevented from playing as they wanted to due to the number of fouls committed by their enthusiastic opponents.

The main focus after the game was on the penalty that was never given witch Thomas Northwood denied to comment on and on injuries. Both teams super star goal scores went down with injury before one half was played. Both Wayne Rooney and Fernando Torres will undergo tests later today to determine the severity of the injury.

Reina signed for league champions Liverpool in 2005. In a related story Nikolay Mihaylov has signed a new contract with Liverpool. Group F vs. Switzerland bounced back with a nice win over Japan in the first game today. Alexander Feri (Basel) scored his 40th goal for Switzerland after 14 minutes. The final goal after 78 minute was scored by Alexander Feri again when he got hold of a loss ball in the penalty arrear and put it away easily. Switzerland 3 – Japan 0 Group G vs. This was perhaps the most entertaining game of the World Cup this fare. It started after 14 minutes when Josè Romero scored the first goal of the game. After 32 minutes Steven Piennar (Everton) scored a beauty on a shot from the edge of the arrear. After just one minute of play in the second half the home nation took the lead on a goal from Elrio Van Heerden (Blackburn). Benni McCarthy (Blackburn) then scored on a questionable penalty after 84 minutes. Two minutes in to OT Chile got one back after an own goal by South Africa but they never got any closer. Group E vs. And vs. Controversy today hit the World Cup. In group E game it was known before the games started that both Germany and Serbia would be thru to the next round with a draw. Therefore none of the teams was willing to take any chances and played with 11 men behind the ball at all times. The 45553 fans were treated to two times 45 minutes of ball-rolling on the midfield with hardly any player breaking a sweat and a 0-0 result that sends both teams thru to the final-16. Serbia 0 – Germany 1 Mexico 1 – Egypt 1 Group F vs. And vs. USA had the chance to make it to the second round with a win over Switzerland but for that to happen they would have to start scoring some goals. The US team got there goal after 80 minutes by Jozy Altidore (Villarreal) but then it was to late was the Swish had already scored a goal of there own after 60 minutes when Erren Derdiyok (Leverkusen) scored after a mistake in the US defends. In the other game Argentina just had to get the time to go without any injuries in the game against Japan. Gonzalo Higuanin (Real Madrid) scored his first of the tournament after 53 minutes and id didn’t matter much that Japan got one back for the draw on a goal by Hirofumi Yano after 79 minutes. The country who invented football was knocked out of the World Cup by a nation with just 5mil people. Denmark (4th) might have been ranked higher on the World ranking then England before the start of the tournament but still nobody believed that a Denmark team that struggled to get out of perhaps the weakest group in this year World Cup would have a chance against the “greatest” football nation. Everything went wrong from the start for England. Already after 2 minutes if went wrong for England. On a corner Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd) failed to clear the ball and Wayne Bridge (Man City) failed to mark and it was easy for Per Krøldrup (Fiorentina) to head in the ball to give Denmark the early lead. Before England had a chance to regroup Denmark hit again. Jesper Grønkjær (FC København) made a fool of Glen Johnsson (Liverpool) on the wing and his cross was put in to the net by Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal) who out jumped John Terry (Chelsea). The clock showed 10 minutes played and England was down by 2 goals. Just 5 minutes later England pulled one back when Denmark failed to clear a corner and Frank Lampard (Chelsea) scored. This was the start of a long England press but most of the attacks were finished off with long range shots that never became really dangerous. After 58 minutes of play in the second half Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd) was sent of when he hit Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal) with an elbow. That didn’t make it any easier against a Danish team who were good to keep the ball within the team. On a day where Wayne Rooney (Man Utd) didn’t have his best day England don’t have a real goal scorer and falls hard to Denmark. Half an hour later Saudi Arabia once again messed up on a corner kick and this time England’s captain John Terry (Chelsea) got the easy goal. Saudi Arabia 0 – England 2 Group B vs. Geremi (Newcastle) gave Cameroon a great start when he scored on a free kick after just 4 minutes of play. After that they switched to a very defensive formation with only one player on top. Berbatov and Bulgaria did produce some chances but the African team was good to keep the ball in the team and managed to hang on to the win that put them thru to the second round together win England. Cameroon 1 – Bulgaria 0 Group G vs. Before the tournament started Denmark was ranked 4th in the world. Today they took a huge step out of the World Cup with an embarrassing loss to Australia. For 88 minutes Denmark had the ball the most but failed to create clear cut goal chances. The game was decided after 41 minutes of play when Robinho (Man City) took the ball at midfield and moved past 4 Spanish defenders before leaving it to Luìs Fabiano (Sevilla) for the easy score. Spain pressed for an equaliser but never got really close and never got there game going with several players having an off-day. Only 4 Spanish players finished the game with a rating over 7.0. Spain 0 – Brazil 1 vs. Ivory Coast and Croatia played the best game of the World Cup this fare. The first half was nothing special and finished 0-0. But after just 13 minutes the fireworks started. Ivory Coast was first on the scoreboard when Salomon Kalou (Chelsea) when his finished off a nice counter attack. Just two minutes later Ivica Olic (FC Byern Munich) equalised for Croatia. Olic then committed a cheep penalty after 77 minutes and Ivory Coast was back on top. But just two minutes before full time it was Croatia who was rewarded a harsh penalty and the game went to OT. 7 minutes in to OT Croatia had a player sent off had had to finish the game with just 10 players. After 108 minutes of play 19-years old debutant Gohi Bi (At. Madrid) scored but again Croatia pulled one back just 2 minutes later this time by Eduardo and the game was heading for penalties. McMahon singled out Adam Pepper as the team's top performer. The attacking midfielder scored a goal to round off an impressive display. FC Bayern are interested in buying Liverpool's Lucas. They would like to know how much Liverpool want for the player. vs. The first goal of the game was a beauty. From 25-yards out Felipe Melo (Juventus) put the ball in the top right corner to give Brazil the early lead. The Liverpool backups were up 5-0 after just 15 minutes of play. The best performance was by 30-year old Sotiris Kyrgiakos who scored two goals but also Nabil El Zhar showed good things today. Andriy Voronin's agent has indicated that his client has rejected the contract offer from Porto. He feels he is deserving of a better basic salary. A report on Football.fr speculates that both OM and Girondins Bordeaux are hot on the trail of Liverpool's Argentinean star Emiliano Insúa. His agent has added fuel to the fire by claiming that his client could be tempted by a move to France in the near future. A decision is likely to be made by Saturday 10th July 2010. After Italy's shock 2 - 1 defeat to Germany yesterday, Fabio Cannavaro was one of the few players to brave the press. Cannavaro gave an interview to the Italian Football Informer in which the 36 year-old said the result was disappointing for all concerned and that they'd naturally strive to ensure a similar performance isn't repeated. Roma have withdrawn their offer for Dinamo Kiev's Artem Milevskyi. According to many experts it only a question of time before Milevskyi will be bought by one of the big clubs in Europe.

The latest target Liverpool have been looking at is Kim Källström from Olympique Lyonnais. Källström, whose current deal runs out in June 2012, is considering an offer from Olympique Lyonnais and is widely expected to sign in the next few days. Olympique Lyonnais want £16,500,000 for Kim Källström. João Paulo's move to Liverpool has been put on hold after his initial application for a work permit was turned down. Liverpool have decided not to appeal against the decision. Blackpool have made an offer to loan Liverpool's Nabil El Zhar for 6 months. Blackpool feel the player would become a valuable member of the first-team. El Zhar signed for league champions Liverpool in 2006. France's Yoann Gourcuff and Croatia's Luka Modric were left trailing in the wake of Kaká, coming in second and third respectively. Bulgaria's Dimitar Berbatov has won the World Cup Golden Boot award. Berbatov has been the top striker in the World Cup this season, scoring 4 goals. With Berbatov, Eduardo and Ivica Olic all finishing level, Berbatov won the award by virtue of having played in fewer matches. Brazil's Júlio César has won the World Cup Best Goalkeeper award. Italy's Gianluigi Buffon came in second having put up a close fight for the award, whilst Iker Casillas of Spain claimed third place.
