Headline: Another easy win predicted for Liverpool !
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool: 2-5 Draw: N/A Aston Villa: 13-2 (English League Cup Third Round)
League champions Liverpool should record an easy home win against Aston Villa, according to Sky Bet. Both clubs will be doing everything they can to ensure victory.
Liverpool fans are all set to welcome Aston Villa fans to Liverpool for their English League Cup Third Round match, one which the hosts are expecting to take a comfortable win from.
David Moss watched Aston Villa's convincing 5 - 0 EURO Cup Group E victory over NEC last Thursday and noted that Aston Villa play a defensive 4-4-2 formation and often look to draw the opposition onto them before attempting a counter-attack.
O'Neill likes his teams to play possession football and Aston Villa will look to get the ball down and play it. Their midfield are good on the ball and can create chances. Finally, it will be important to defend deep or use fast defenders as their attacking pace may cause problems. Moss believes that a potential threat to our defence will be the pace of striker Gabby Agbonlahor.

It has been another great day of action in the English League Cup. With fourteen matches played and 46 goals scored, the best viewing was to be found at The City Of Manchester Stadium where a crowd of 47405 witnessed a shock result during Man City's 5 - 4 penalty win over Man Utd. The highlight being a landmark goal for Man City's Gareth Barry.
Elsewhere, a brace from Mamady Sidibé inspired a win for the home side during Stoke's 4 - 3 victory after extra time over Tottenham and Jonathan Greening scored the pick of the goals in Fulham's 2 - 4 penalty loss against Newcastle with a smart diving header from close range. Bristol City have also progressed after a win at The Riverside Stadium where they upset newly-promoted Middlesbrough in stunning fashion.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Hartlepool United, Newcastle United and Sunderland.

Man Utd manager Alex Ferguson has been warned by the Football Association for his comments following Man Utd's 4 - 5 English League Cup Third Round penalty loss against Man City. Ferguson had reacted badly to his side being denied what he believed to be a clear penalty, although replays have since shown that the officials made the right decision.

MATCH REPORT:
Liverpool 2 - 1 Aston Villa (League Cup 3rd Rnd)
Liverpool produced a good display this evening to see off the challenge of Aston Villa at Anfield with a team with several backups in the starting line-up.
Explosive striker Gabby Agbonlahor gave Aston Villa the lead with a powerful effort in the 18th minute. Striker Matías Defederico then equalised for Liverpool in the 52nd minute with a well timed close range finish. This was Matías Defedericos first goal for the Liverpool first team.
An error from Aston Villas James Collins then allowed midfielder Lucas to score a good header from just inside the six-yard box with just two minutes left on the clock after a good cross from Albert Riera who got his first chance in the first team this season. .
Lucas was the best player on the park today. The central midfielder bagged a dramatic late winning goal to round off his performance by applying the finishing touches to a good team move by scoring a fine header from point-blank range. Lucas looked assured in possession and the central midfielder's goal capped a committed all-action performance. Lucas has been in superb form for Liverpool so far this season, contributing two goals and two assists in nine appearances.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool are through to the Fourth Round after a 2 - 1 win over Aston Villa at Anfield. The team were expected to qualify and now having sealed their place in the next round, fans can look forward to who they may be drawn against.
Liverpool will have to face the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City if they are to go all the way and win the League Cup.

Supporter spokesperson Richard Martin feels the fans are pleased with Liverpool's 2 - 1 English League Cup Third Round victory over Aston Villa. Lucas and Matías Defederico particularly impressed. Still not everyone was happy as Liverpool's Martin Skrtel has openly criticised manager Thomas Northwood for his comments in the dressing room during Liverpool's 2 - 1 English League Cup Third Round victory over Aston Villa. The strong centre-back remarked that he felt Northwood had made a few errors of judgement in his team-talk which had done nothing to help the team. Northwood commented after the game that he was happy about the result but not necessarily about the play shown on the field.

Liverpool: 1-6 Draw: 5-1 Bolton: 10-1 (English Premier League)
League champions Liverpool are sure-fire favourites to overwhelm Bolton in what should be a comfortable home encounter for the Reds, according to Sky Bet.
Liverpool have not conceded in four matches and the title contenders lie in 1st place in the English Premier League. Bolton are currently lying in 19th place.
David Moss watched Bolton's 1 - 0 English League Cup Third Round victory over Ipswich last Tuesday and noted that Bolton play a defensive 4-1-4-1 formation and often look to draw the opposition onto them before attempting a counter-attack. Megson likes his teams to play possession football and Bolton will look to get the ball down and play it. Finally, it will be important to defend deep or use fast defenders as their attacking pace may cause problems.
Moss believes that a potential threat to our defence will be the pace of left midfielder Ricardo Gardner.

MATCH REPORT:
Liverpool 2 - 0 Bolton Wanderers (Premier League)
Liverpool enjoyed near total domination over a distinctly average Bolton Wanderers side at Anfield this evening. The match was certainly not one for the purists with neither side able to keep the errors out of their game. Things did not get off to a good start for Bolton as striker Fernando Torres seized on an error by Grétar Steinsson to score a close range header.
Experienced centre-back Andy O'Brien then summed up his team's performance by nearly gifting Liverpool another goal on 76 minutes. An error from Gary Cahill allowed striker Matías Defederico to score a well timed close range finish.
With a display of attacking football Fernando Torres pick up the man of the match award. The 26 year-old striker took his goal well for Liverpool and generally looked lively.
The Spanish international has been in lethal form for Liverpool this season, leading the club's scoring charts with eight goals in ten appearances.

Stamford are also through to the Third Qualifying Round as they beat Blue Square North outfit Corby Town at Rockingham Triangle Stadium. Elsewhere, there were wins for Halesowen Town, Cray Wanderers, Didcot Town and Waltham Abbey.

Liverpool have extended their unbeaten record in the Premier League to ten games following their 2 - 0 result against Bolton Wanderers. The pundits' title tip must be in with an excellent chance of winning the title this season. If they can maintain their current form, it will be hard for any side to stop them.

Supporter spokesperson Richard Martin feels the fans are pleased with Liverpool's 2 - 0 English Premier League victory over Bolton. Richard believes the fans were pleased with way in which the team restricted the opposition's chances.
Particularly impressive were players like Fernando Torres and Matías Defederico, leaving the likes of David N'Gog wondering how he will break into the side.

Elsewhere, Jérémie Aliadičre scored a powerful effort during Middlesbrough's 1 - 0 victory over Chelsea.

With eighty FA Cup matches played and 133 goals scored, the best viewing was to be found at Westleigh Park where a crowd of 1062 witnessed Havant & W's 3 - 1 victory over Dorchester. The game was marred however by an injury to Havant & W's Greg Vickers.
Elsewhere, Callum Pepper scored a well timed close range finish during Harrogate's 1 - 1 draw with Guiseley and 492 watched Northwich's 2 - 1 victory over Southport where Greg Marsden scored the pick of the goals with an audacious chip.

Liverpool fans are all set to welcome Benfica fans to Liverpool for their European Champions League Group H match. The hosts are slight favourites for the match according to most pundits but will still need to turn in a strong performance if they are to beat Benfica.

Liverpool: Evens(Fav) Draw: 11-5 Benfica: 11-5 (European Champions League Group H)
English champions Liverpool's home advantage gives them the edge in what should be a close encounter against Portuguese Liga Sagres team Benfica, according to Sky Bet.
David Moss believes Benfica are likely to field a 4-4-2 formation. Moss believes that the intelligent play of attacking midfielder Pablo Aimar will be a threat and he will look to drop into space where possible.

Thomas Northwood appeared in an equivocal mood as he met journalists ahead of Liverpool's match against Sport Lisboa e Benfica - SAD in the European Champions League Group H. A journalist from TEAMtalk.com chose the main focus point for the conference, asking, "Both clubs will be doing everything they can to ensure victory. Are you confident ahead of the upcoming tie?"
Northwood's response was, "We have an excellent chance."
It is thought that the Liverpool squad should react well to Northwood's handling of the question.

Arsenal felt Matthew Upson should not have been shown a 67th minute red card during Arsenal's English Premier League 2 - 2 draw with Wolves. Arsenal boss Arsčne Wenger refused to openly criticise the referee after the match, claiming that he was not prepared to risk being reprimanded by the FA.

Supporter spokesperson Richard Martin believes the fans are disappointed with Liverpool's European Champions Cup Group H 1 - 1 draw with Benfica. Martin Skrtel and Javier Mascherano in particular were singled out as having underperformed.
The result means the team can still achieve their minimum aim of reaching the Semi Final of the Champions League but with just 1 point after the two first games the Reds got a lot of work to do and little margin of error.
Liverpool have been awarded Ł261,000 for their draw against Benfica in the Champions Cup.

Man City: 11-5 Draw: 11-5 Liverpool: Evens (English Premier League)
League runners up Manchester City are slight underdogs in what should prove a tightly contested affair against league champions Liverpool, according to Sky Bet. Liverpool have not conceded in five matches and the title contenders lie in 1st place in the English Premier league.
Man City are currently ten points behind league leaders Liverpool with a game in hand. David Moss watched Man City's 4 - 2 European Champions Cup Group C victory over Spartak Moscow last Wednesday and noted that Man City play a defensive 4-4-2 formation and often look to draw the opposition onto them before attempting a counter-attack. The pitch at The City Of Manchester Stadium is long which will favour teams playing a direct style. If defenders push up there will be a lot of space to exploit in behind them for the quicker players to take advantage of.
Hughes likes his teams to play possession football and Man City will look to get the ball down and play it. They benefit from a strong and organised defence and this could prove difficult to break down. Their midfield are good on the ball and can create chances. Finally, it will be important to defend deep or use fast defenders as their attacking pace may cause problems.
Moss believes that striker Carlos Tevez will need to be watched carefully as he has the ability to be a match winner.

Liverpool's Thomas Northwood has won the English Premier League Manager of the Month award for the second moth in a row and the 3rd time in his Liverpool career. The award was made after the Reds boss led his team to two league victories in their last three games.

(PRM) Liverpool 1 - 0 Stoke (11th Sep)
(PRM) Liverpool 0 - 0 Tottenham (18th Sep)
(PRM) Liverpool 2 - 0 Bolton (25th Sep)

There was nothing to choose between the top three and the award could easily have gone to either Middlesbrough's Gareth Southgate or Roberto Martínez from Wigan, who came second and third respectively.

To summarise, the Liverpool board are satisfied with Thomas Northwood’s management of the team. This has been underlined by the fans' joy at Liverpool's 4 - 2 English Premier Division victory over Everton. However, the board are slightly disappointed with the team's performance in the Euro.

The club recorded a loss of Ł7.34M last month.
Monthly Turnover: Ł9.71M
Previous Month: Ł17.36M
Main Income: Gate Receipts Ł3.21M
Monthly Expenditure: Ł17.06M

MATCH REPORT:
Manchester City 0 - 3 Liverpool (Premier League)
Liverpool showed this afternoon it's not the amount of possession you have, it's what you do with it that counts, as they ran out 3 - 0 winners over Manchester City. A brace from Fernando Torres helped Liverpool to victory.
The match started tentatively for Liverpool with Daniel Agger nearly handing the opposition the lead on 17 minutes. Legendary midfielder Steven Gerrard gave Liverpool the lead with a powerful effort in the 32nd minute after a brilliant thru ball from midfield from Javier Mascherano. Centre-back Vincent Kompany then summed up his team's performance by nearly gifting Liverpool another goal on 36 minutes. Instead striker Fernando Torres doubled Liverpool's lead with a powerful effort from the edge of the area on 57 minutes after brilliant Liverpool play.
Torres completed the rout with a good header from just inside the six-yard box on 79 minutes. This time substitute Yossi Benayoun was the creator behind Torres 10th goal of the season.
Man City were nearly gifted a goal on 85 minutes through Emiliano Insúa's lapse in concentration but they once again failed to capitalise on the opportunity presented to them. It was a very happy Liverpool team leaving the field after there perhaps best performance this season.

Dave Galley has reported that central midfielder Florent Cuvelier has sustained a gashed arm following a robust challenge during a training session. Cuvelier will be treated by the club's physios. It is likely that Cuvelier will be out for between 3 days and 4 days whilst he is treated.

Dave Galley also reports the following other problems persisting within the Liverpool squad.

Chris Mavinga (fractured jaw) and Robert Maloney (slipped disc) are close to a return to full fitness and should soon be available for selection.
Victor Pálsson (damaged cruciate ligaments) is our only long-term injury and it will still be a while before we can think about setting a realistic return date for him.
Liverpool FC have also received an injury update on Douglas Costa (fractured arm) who is not currently at the club.

Andrey Arshavin was the best player on the park during Arsenal's 1 - 0 English Premier Division victory over Chelsea this evening and the margin of victory should have been even greater.
The 29 year-old Arsenal attacking midfielder rounded off a good performance with a goal and was unlucky not to add to his tally.
Arshavin is reportedly far from happy at Emirates Stadium and, although still considered an important member of the Arsenal squad, the attacking midfielder is said to be considering the options available to him.

Despite his injury Florent Cuvelier has been called up by Belgium manager Dick Advocaat for his squad to face Estonia. The match takes place on October 13th.
