Brown Top RL Pitcher in April
Friday, May 1st, 2054: Adam Brown nailed down April's Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Maricopa to get a deal done before the 32-year-old becomes a free agent.

Brown seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 26 strikeouts, worked 35 innings and held batters to a .236 average for the month as he posted a 2.06 ERA.

Gutiérrez Grabs CL Top Pitcher Trophy
Friday, May 1st, 2054: Veteran José Gutiérrez put together quite a successful stretch in April for the London Bishops, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Gutiérrez racked up a 3-2 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.52 ERA over 35.2 innings and striking out 35.

April's RL Batter of Month Award Announced
Friday, May 1st, 2054: Clarence Miller battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Miller told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 19 games, Miller hit .293 with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

Rodríguez Earns April's Top Batter Prize in CL
Friday, May 1st, 2054: José Rodríguez has a lot going for him. The Plantana third baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Continental League has just picked him as its top hitter for April.

In 22 games last month, this outstanding rookie batted .348 with 2 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2054: Juan Cintrón was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old shortstop definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 20 games Cintrón batted .389 for Waikiki, slapping 35 hits in 90 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 14 runs and scored 13 times.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2054: José Rodríguez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Plantana hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .348 average with 32 hits, 2 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Hamilton Slugs 300th Home Run
Saturday, May 23rd, 2054: Donald Hamilton circled the bases and raised his arm in triumph. He had finally hit his 300th home run. It was a homer for a lot of people: himself; his teammates past and present; his former managers and coaches; and especially his family, who sat near the plate cheering his every at-bat during the past few games.

Hamilton spoke with BNN and said, "I knew number 300 would come sooner or later. I had to keep reminding myself, 'Relax, relax, just let it happen, let it happen.' And it finally did."

His milestone homer came in the London Bishops 12-8 win over the Oshawa Mullets. Hamilton went 3 for 4 in the game, scored 3 runs, and batted in 1.

In his career Hamilton has hit for a .301 average and totaled 2752 hits, 300 home runs and 1335 RBIs.

Luna Takes RL Top Starter Trophy
Monday, June 1st, 2054: Alonso Luna hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Cleveland starter earned a 4-0 mark in 6 starts. He threw 39.1 innings, struck out 40 and compiled a solid 3.66 ERA.

Presently Luna has a 4-2 mark in 11 starts with a 3.76 ERA. He has given up 56 hits in 64.2 innings, struck out 63 and issued 27 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .232 batting average against him.

CL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Ruíz
Monday, June 1st, 2054: Juan Ruíz was the anchor in the Havana bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 29-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

To date, his season stats show Ruíz has 14 saves with a 1-0 mark and 0.91 ERA.

Big Month for RL Rookie
Monday, June 1st, 2054: Youngster Bartolo Aquino emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .370 with 1 home run and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Aquino enjoy the limelight.

Aquino is presently hitting at a .322 pace with 1 home run and 15 RBIs. He has played in 43 games and scored 25 times.

Rodríguez Voted CL's #1 Rookie
Monday, June 1st, 2054: José Rodríguez earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Plantana third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

In 51 games this season Rodríguez has batted at a .341 pace with 73 hits and 4 home runs.

Spring's Steele Hammers #300
Thursday, June 4th, 2054: "I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."
That's what Ben Steele told reporters after he made baseball history today at Rattlers Ballpark. The prolific slugger belted home run #300 in the Spring Lions 9-7 victory over the Maricopa Rattlers.

The standout first baseman collected 3 hits in 5 at-bats with 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Steele. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"

In 1512 career games Steele is hitting at a .294 pace with 1714 hits with 344 doubles, 26 triples and 302 homers while scoring 1066 runs and racking up 1086 RBIs. He logged 869 walks and owns a .388 on-base percentage.

Dave Ducklow is July's #1 Hitter in CL

Saturday, August 1st, 2054: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Dave Ducklow. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Oshawa's left fielder pinned down the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .405 in July collecting 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Scarlett Is August's Top Starter
Tuesday, September 1st, 2054: When Jon Scarlett takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Plantana victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

The third best team in the CL is currently 1/2 game out of having a protected draft pick next season. Seems there is much more parity in the RL between teams #2 and #7
