FOF 2007: A New York Jets Dynasty
Welcome
Hello everyone. Welcome to my first ever FOF dynasty. I will use this to track my progress as I try to bring the New York Jets to where they haven't been since 1969: the Superbowl. With 35 year old head coach Eric Mangini taking the helm after a dissapointing 4-12 season in 2005, the Jets hope to not only improve, but to reach at least the playoffs and maybe even further. This is their journey. P.S. For anyone reading this, feel free to comment as you please. Thanks. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-05-2007 at 07:12 PM. |

2006 Goals
OFFENSE 1. Keep Turnovers and Penalties to a minimum 2. Develop C Mangold and LT Ferguson into the anchors of the offensive line who can be relied upon for years to come. 3. Evaluate QB Pennington's abilities. Can he make it through a whole season? 4. Use the RB by Commitee approach to keep opposing defenses off balance. 5. Develop WR Coles and WR Cotchery into a fearsome tandem. DEFENSE 1. Use the 2006 season to transition to the 3-4 Defense. 2. Develop the skills of WLB Thomas, as he has switched positions. 3. Evaluate the ability of NT Robertson. 4. Find the best CB to play opposite of Dyson. If Coleman isn't the right guy, find out who is. OVERALL 1. Develop "Team First" mentality 2. Win 9 games 3. Evaluate the skills of each player and develop a system that utilizes their strengths. After a grueling, grinding, and brutally hot mini-camp and training camp throughout the summer of 2006, coach Mangini and general manager Mike Tannenbaum cut rookie hopefulls and veterans looking for work to get down to 53 players. The following includes ratings for each of the 53 players and notes on each position group... Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-05-2007 at 07:29 PM. |

2006 End of Pre-Season Notes
Code:
Offensive Notes As you can see, we went 3-1 in the pre-season. Basically, we used these four games to really get a feel for how our team plays together. A gameplan can not simply be created by looking at our scouts ratings of player skills. However, the basic plan for this team has seemed to work very well during the pre-season. The main points of our offensive gameplan are short, accurate, high completion percentage passes that can put us in good situations against the defense. Along with those short pass completions, our basic gameplan consists of a "running back by commitee" approach that will keep our oppents off balanced. Our speedy RB Leon Washington will be complimented by the power running of RB Cedric Houston and RB Kevan Barlow. Our philosophy includes working with as many pass-catchers as possible, including the RB, FB, TE, and WR positions. Overall, the goal is to keep defenses off balance. Throughout the pre-season, many of our players on offense proved to our orginization that they deserve a starting role on this team. Even though it was pre-season defenses we were facing, we faced very tough teams and came out on top. Defensive Notes: The ability for this team to switch so quickly and so efficiently to the 3-4 defense has really impressed me. Nearly all of the starters on the team have been playing in the 4-3 for the past few years and to quickly pick up the differences and be able to compete in a pre-season that we planned on using simply to accustom them to the 3-4 is extremely impressive. We have had an amazing performance from OLB Victor Hobson with his 5 sacks in 4 games, a player who has never really been able to rush the QB like he can now. The defense held all oppenents to under 300 total net yards, and held the offensive power-house Philadelphia Eagles to only 118 total yards. With the team still gelling together, we hope that the team will continue to improve in this new scheme. However, a key rookie player who the Jets coaching staff have been thinking highly, CB Drew Coleman, injured his elbow in the game against the New York Giants. He will be out opening day, leaving a bigger question mark in a position (CB) that already was one. He will be back to 100% in approximately 5 weeks according to team doctors. 2006 End of Pre-Season Notes (NFL Pre-Season Standings) Code:

Week 1: New York Jets at Tennessee Titans
Season Opener Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: LG Wade Smith - Torn Calf Muscle DE Dave Ball - Seperated Shoulder CB Drew Coleman - Strained Elbow Tension Injured: WR Laveranues Coles - Pulled Groin (Questionable) RT Adrian Jones - Strained Foot Ligament (Probable) FB B.J. Askew - Sprained Thumb (Probable) C Nick Mangold - Sprained Ankle (Probable) DE Kimo von Oelhoffen - Strained Quadriceps Muscle (Probable) Tennessee Titans Out: N/A Injured: FS Vincent Fuller - Hyperextended Knee (Questionable) FB Troy Fleming - Sprained Thumb (Probable) WR Drew Bennett - Strained Rotator Cuff (Probable) DE Kyle Vanden Bosch - Broken Finger (Probable) FS Lamont Thompson - Bruised Ribcage (Probable) Tennessee Titans Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Vince Young Young is a #3 overall pick who can be extremely dangerous because of his athelticism. He can not only sense the rush well, but he can evade it and rush for good yardage. However, being a rookie comes with its weaknesses. His biggest strength is in the short passing game, with a rating of (21/49) in that category. He is weaker in other passing areas but not by to much, so we can't concentrate too much on one area. He has poor accuracy, and poor third-down passing ratings. The Titans will only be running one formation with more than two WR's. QB Kerry Collins Without prior knowledge on which QB will start this Week 1 matchup, we must prepare for each option. Collins is very good at passing between 11 and 20 yards. He is extremely poor at long and deep passing. He doesn't sense the rush as well as Young and is decent at third-down passing. RB LenDale White White is a very powerful inside runner as well as a very good outside runner. His third-down running isn't very strong, and also lacks breakaway speed. TE Bo Scaife This TE is very poor at pass blocking and should be attacked by strong-side blitzes. He is, however, a very good pass catching TE and should be played against accordingly. FL David Givens Givens has a tendency to drop alot of balls thrown his way, but is a decent deep threat. However, because of the deep-pass weaknesses of the QB's this should not pose a threat. He does run his routes well and is their strongest receiver. SE Drew Bennett Bennett is injured for this game, but can still maintain a high level of performance. Bennett's skills are very similar to Givens and should be played against the same way. -OFFENSIVE LINE- As a whole, the offensive line is fairly strong. C Kevin Mawae is a fairly good linemen, as well as the right and left guards. However, the right and left tackles are poor pass blocking linemen, and should be blitzed against heavily. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- The Titans run a 4-3 Defense, which will make it a little harder to establish our running game. The LE, Kyle Vanden Bosch is a very talented player, and is excellent in pass-rushing skills as very as very good in run defense. The RE, Travis LaBoy is good at pass-rushing but very poor at run defense. This should be taken advantage of with outside runs to the left. The left DT is very proficient in pass rushing average in run defense. The right DT is good at run defense but is a very poor pass rusher. The Titans MLB Stephen Tulloch is very poor in pass coverage, but he is an above-average pass rushing linebacker. He is below-average, however, in run defense. Their WLB David Thornton is poor in run defense but a very good pass rusher. He is also very strong in coverage. The SLB has very similar skills to the WLB but is much, much better in run defense. Running to the right side should be avoided. -SECONDARY- LCB Pacman Jones He is a fairly good, young cornerback who can disrupt offenses with good bump and run skills. He is below average in interception skills, and has poor run defense skills. RCB Reynaldo Hill Hill is a very poor cornerback who lacks the man-to-man skills to cover our receiver well. He is average in bump-and-run coverage. SS Chris Hope The Titans SS, Chris Hope, is an incredible threat to our passing game. Avoid him at all costs. FS Lamont Thompson Thompson compliments Hope very well, as not only is he very good at pass coverage, but he has perfect ratings in run defense. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - Avoid throwing the ball to the middle of the field. The linebackers as a group are very good at pass coverage. - Avoid throwing the ball deep. With the two safeties being extremely skilled, and the lack of deep and long passing skills of our QB Pennington, that is a very dangerous combination that could result in turnovers. - Attack their weak side by running alot outside of our LT. - Using our two main backs, Washington and Houston, we will keep fresh legs on the field. When a surge of power running is needed, Barlow will come in to move the ball forward. - Protect our QB by keeping in our TE and backs to help pick up their blitzing linebackers. DEFENSE - The lack of a deep passing game lets us keep in linebackers in, instead of putting out extra defensive backs. - We must either keep players in coverage or blitz multiple linebackers/safeties. Young is very good at picking up the blitz and should be either attacked heavily or not at all. - Run a mixed coverage defense, but mainly play bump and run against their weak receivers. Use the half-zone, half-man defense to cover their good pass-catching TE. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-04-2007 at 12:03 PM. |

wow man. impressive amount of detail. if i didn't have a headache already I'd dig deeper into it.
Good luck with Pennington, maybe he'll be one of those guys for you who plays above his rating? And hopefully you can find another serviceable CB in FA so you don't have to address it in the draft. Jets have a lot of holes (frankly I think Mangini got way more than expected out of them this year) so you've got your work cut out for you for sure. |

(Thanks DT. I am about to post results of my first game against Tennessee. Pennington did pretty good. The cornerback position is gonna be interesting. I was hoping that alot of playing time for Drew Coleman would get his ratings up and he could start for me next year, but his injury is making that a little harder. I would prefer to sign a top notch CB in free agency. Im hoping that New England's CB Asante Samuel doesn't resign with them. If he does, Nate Clements may be available but he is a little old. Maybe I could sign him for a year. Mangini really has done an amazing job this year with the lack of talent he has on the team. I am a huge, extremely optomistic Jets fan and even I expected about 5, maybe 6 wins. The fact that they are in the playoffs amazes me. Thanks again, hope you keep reading and enjoying)

Looks like you are off to a good start, using Yabanci's rosters? His rosters are better than the in-game rosters IMO. I have been a long time Jets fan, and I am currently involved in a SP career with them as well. We are 5-2 trough week 7.
Is your staff in the game a young group as well? Obviously they are not really Mangini, and you are playing the role of GM, how about some info about your staff. The only holes it looks as though you have are at CB and RB. If you would like to exchange some further information about our two careers give me a PM. Would be happy to send you information from my SP career. I put together a Jets rewind dynasty a couple of years ago, where I re-did the offseason changes of a disastrous season when they let Coles go and things like that.

Week 1: New York Jets at Tennessee Titans
Season Opener Post-Game Notes Box Score: Week 1, 2006 played in Tennessee, TN 92 degrees, rain, 11 mph wind
Drive Charts
Rushing Statistics
Notes: We achieved many of our goals today. Our running game, led by Cedric Houston, was phenomenal. He had 101 yards on 16 carries, averaging 6.31 YPC. That is exactly what we needed today. We needed someone to step up and take that role. Today, Cedric Houston was that guy. On our second drive of the game, he found an opening in the defense for 31 yards for a touchdown. With our running back by committe approach, both will be used in the game until someone can find their stride. Today, Leon Washington started the game a little slow, while Houston really got going. It is things like that, that will make this team successful. The coaching staff was also very impressed with the job Kevan Barlow did. He came here not knowing what his role was going to be with this team. During the pre-season he found his role to be maybe a little less than expected, but I think he accepts that and still put up pretty good numbers and also got a touchdown. As for the passing game, Chad did an incredible job getting the ball to our recievers. He did throw 1 INT, but he made some very good decisions with the ball today. He put up a completion percentage of 75.8% (25-33), which is an outstanding number. He really helped us control the clock, giving us a dominating 37:55 minutes with the ball. We acheived our goal of protecting Chad, allowing only one sack to their very-good pass-rush defense. Our receivers also did an amazing job today. As you can see with the pass completion percentage of Pennington, our receivers did very well adjusting to the ball, and their was no dropped passes all game. Chad did a very good job spreading the ball out to different receivers and backs, hitting 8 different players. Our goal for this season is to keep defenses off-balanced, and today we acheived that goal. As for defense, we had two key interceptions today, one from S Kerry Rhodes and one from CB Andre Dyson. They came in back to back drives and really helped us take control of the game in the first half. We only had one sack, but it occured at the most oppurtunistic time of the game. With the Titans backed up in their own end-zone, OLB Victor Hobson used his new-found ability to blitz and took advantage of it and put two points up on the board for us. With the team learning this new defense, it may take us a while to gel together and work as a team. Today, however, it looked like we have been playing it for years. We held the Titans to 45 rushing yards and 119 passing yards, 164 yards total. That is an outstanding accomplishment for this team. They really did an incredible job. On special teams, I was very impressed with rookies Brad Smith and Anthony Schlegal, who both had 3 tackles on ST today. Punter Ben Graham had a very good day today, averaging 47 yards per punt with a long of 58, and getting 5 of 8 punts within the opposing twenty yard line. Second year kicker Mike Nugent hit both field goals that he attempted. The one low-point that we had today was the kick-return that we gave up today. That play got Tennesse back in the game and big plays like that will lose games for us in the future. We cannot let that happen again. Injury Report: Nick Mangold, C, is now 100%. B.J. Askew, FB - Sprained Thumb, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Adrian Jones, RT - Strained Foot Ligament, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Dave Ball, LDE - Separated Shoulder, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Leon Washington, RB - Hyperextended Knee, Doubtful, full strength in about 2 weeks. Laveranues Coles, FL - Pulled Groin, Questionable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Kimo Von Oelhoffen, RDE - Strained Quadriceps Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Chad Pennington, QB - Shoulder Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Brad Smith, FL - Strained Quadriceps Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 4 weeks. Drew Coleman, RCB - Strained Elbow Tendon, Out, full strength in about 4 weeks. Next week's game is against the 1-0 New England Patriots. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-04-2007 at 01:48 PM. |

(Yea, I am using Yabanci's rosters. He sent me the CSV so i could do some tweaking. My staff in the game is not very young. My one gripe with this game is that coaches are un-editable. But I came up with an idea that may work, may not. What i plan on doing is saying my coach is Mangini, because I want it to mimic real life. But what I will do is at the end of the season, I will list goals that I want to accomplish the next year. So if my goal is to decrease penalties, I might go out and hire a new coach in the game that has better discipline (and similar other skills.) I know this may defeat the purpose of a FOF dynasty but I just can't get myself to list false names. Oh well. But just so everyone knows, here is my staff in-game: Lead Scout: Aaron Spencer, 61 2 year contract, $570,000 QB-Good RB-Very Good WR-Average OL-Good K-Fair DL-Average LB-Excellent DB-Excellent YT-Very Good Head Coach: Shane Hauck, 49 1 year contract, $4,420,000 Motivation-Good Discipline-Good Offense-Very Good Defense-Average Injury-Good OC: Brian Fraser, 57 5 year contract, $3,030,000 QB-Good RB-Average WR-Excellent OL-Good K/P-Average YT-Average DC: Jason Farley, 58 5 year contract, $1,740,000 K/P-Good DL-Fair LB-Excellent DB-Good YT-Average I have read your dynasty before. I really enjoyed it. I would love to hear more about your SP dynasty. I would say my main holes are RDE and CB. von Oelhoffen will probably retire at the end of the year. I would love to draft a run-stopping DE to replace him. CB is also a big hole. It's amazing how Mangini can run the defense with Poteat and Coleman starting alot of games, but he does it. Im hoping Asante Samuel becomes a FA this year so I can pick him up. RB isn't one of my main holes that I see now, but if a Marshawn Lynch or Adrian Peterson dropped down to me in the draft I would pick him up in a heartbeat. I'd also look into picking up Michael Turner from the Chargers. If none of those happen, I would concentrate on RG and RT first. Thanks for reading and the input. I really appreciate it) |

Week 2: New England Patriots at New York Jets
Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: LG Wade Smith - Torn Calf Muscle CB Drew Coleman - Strained Elbow Tension Injured: RB Leon Washington - Hyperextended Knee (Doubtful) WR Laveranues Coles - Pulled Groin (Questionable) RT Adrian Jones - Strained Foot Ligament (Probable) FB B.J. Askew - Sprained Thumb (Probable) DE Kimo von Oelhoffen - Strained Quadriceps Muscle (Probable) DE Dave Ball - Seperated Shoulder (Probable) WR Brad Smith - Strained Quadriceps Muscle (Probable) QB Chad Pennington - Shoulder Tendinitis (Probable) New England Patriots Out: SS Rodney Harrison - Broken Fibula Injured: NT Vince Wilfork - Pulled Calf Muscle (Questionable C Lonie Paxton - Sprained Neck (Probable) WR Troy Brown - Broken Toe (Probable) CB Ellis Hobbs - Pulled Groin (Probable) FS Artrell Hawkins - Knee Tendinitis (Probable) New England Patriots Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Tom Brady Tom Brady has proven himself to be one of the best quarterback's in the league. He seems to come through in the worst of situations and doesn't get shaken by pressure. He tends to throw shorter passes but is a threat in every facet of the game. He senses the rush extremely well. Also, with his ability to keep calm under pressure, he runs the two-minute offense extremely well and is very dangerous at that time. RB Laurence Maroney Maroney is a young back but is extremely dangerous when running to the outside. We must play cornerbacks who stop the run well when we are in our base package to minimize that threat. He is a good pass-catcher out of the backfield as well. TE Daniel Graham Graham is a very talented TE who blocks excellently on both running and passing plays. He is an excellent route runner and seems to never drop the ball. We must guard against this TE to prevent them from moving the ball down the field with him. FL Chad Jackson Jackson has a tendency to drop alot of balls thrown his way, but is a decent deep threat. We must protect against the deep ball because of Jackson's big play ability and Brady's deep pass ability. He doesn't run his routes very well but is an excellent third-down receiver. SE Doug Gabriel Gabriel seems like he will be the main target of Brady. On non third-down passing downs we should double team this player. -OFFENSIVE LINE- The left side of the offensive line is absolutely incredible. We should put our biggest pass rushing threat on the strong-side to take advantage of their weak RG Billy Yates and RT Nick Kaczur. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- The Patriots run a 3-4 defense with strong run-stopping linemen and good linebackers. Their is a weakness in run-stopping, however, on their weak side. We should take advantage of that weakness. NT Vince Wilwork is the epitome of a 3-4 NT. He stops the run extremely well. RDE Jarvis Green is a very good pass-rushing end but is below-average in run defense. The LDE Richard Seymour is an excellent end and should be avoided. The Patriots two outside linebackers, SLB Mike Vrabel and WLB Rosevelt Colvin are very good pass-rushing linebackers. We need to keep our backs and TE in on some occasions to deter that threat. The inside linebackers are different on each side. SILB Teddy Bruschi is a stronger pass-rushing LB but has above average run-stopping skills, and WILB Junior Seau is very poor at run defense. All of the linebackers are very good in pass coverage. -SECONDARY- LCB Asante Samuel Samuel is an excellent cover corner. He diagnoses plays extremely well and is a ball-hawk. He will jump routes and intercept passes thrown his way. He should be avoided. RCB Chad Scott Hill is a very poor cornerback who lacks the man-to-man skills to cover our receiver well. He is very poor in bump-and-run coverage, and should be picked on all day. SS Tebucky Jones With Rodney Harrison out for the game, we should pick on this safety throughout the game. He is terrible in zone defense and some long passes should be thrown his way. FS Eugene Wilson Wilson is by far, the much better safety of this duo. He intercepts many passes and is good in zone defense, as well as run defense. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - Avoid throwing the ball to the middle of the field. The linebackers as a group are very good at pass coverage. - Avoid throwing towards LCB Asante Samuel. With the strong safety being a replacement, there should be on occasional deep pass toward him. Pick on RCB Chad Scott all day. Line up Coles against him on some downs. DEFENSE - Every facet of the passing game is a threat. Don't give up big plays, and don't be too aggressive against short passes. - We must attack their weak right side of the offensive line. We will have a big oppurtunity to put alot of pressure on the QB. Brady is very good at picking up the blitz and should be attacked consistently. - Run a mixed coverage defense, but mainly play bump and run against their weak receivers. Use the half-zone, half-man defense to cover their good pass-catching TE. - On 1st and 2nd down, double team SE Gabriel. Because of FL Jackson's excellent third-down catching, we should double team him on 3rd down. - For our base 3-4 package, use good run-defending CB's because of Maroney's excellent outside running. Week 2: New England Patriots at New York Jets

Notes: This was a dissapointing loss, but I am still very proud of this team for fighting until the end. New England is one of the most talented teams in the NFL on both offense and defense. Tom Brady had an excellent game, and put his team in 1st place in our division. Even though we lost this game, there were alot of positives that will translate into wins over the rest of the season. With Leon Washington out for this game, the bulk of the load was put on the shoulders of 2nd year RB Cedric Houston, who had 18 carries for 66 yards, averaging 3.67 YPC, an impressive number against the stout run defense of New England. For the second straight week, RB Kevan Barlow broke out some big gains with 47 yards on only 5 carries. WR Tim Dwight also ran a successfull reverse during the game. The passing game went extremely well today. Chad seems to have found his rhythm quickly this year and seems to be feeling good. His shoulder has been sore, but he has fought threw it and has put up very good numbers. Today he had an 80% completion percentage, going 20 for 25 with 2 TD's and no INT's. Our gameplan was to attack their weak cornerback on short passes and to attack their weak free safety on long passes and we did both very well, completing a 50 yard pass to WR Jerricho Cotchery (138 yds., 1 TD). WR Lavernaues Coles put up solid numbers with 7 catches for 72 yards and 1 TD. Pass protection was a different story however, with our o-line allowing 3 sacks. Our defense competed against the New England offense and that is impressive, but Tom Brady came out on top and went 20 for 26 with 235 yards and 2 TD's. The Patriots offensive line did a very good job protecting Brady, as we only got one sack against him. On special teams, our PR Tim Dwight fumbled on a return and allowed the Patriots to recover it, which gave them excellent field position and led to a TD. We also let up a kick return which gave the Patriots a starting position of the Jets 30 yard line. That also led to a touchdown. Special teams is the reason we lost this game, and it will be an important subject over the next week's practices. Injury Report: B.J. Askew, FB, is now 100%. Adrian Jones, RT, is now 100%. Dave Ball, LDE, is now 100%. Leon Washington, RB - Hyperextended Knee, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Laveranues Coles, FL - Pulled Groin, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Kimo Von Oelhoffen, RDE - Strained Quadriceps Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Chad Pennington, QB - Shoulder Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Brad Smith, FL - Strained Quadriceps Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. D'Brikashaw Ferguson, LT - Hyperextended Knee, Doubtful, full strength in about 2 weeks. Drew Coleman, RCB - Strained Elbow Tendon, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Wade Smith, LG - Torn Calf Muscle, Out, full strength in about 4 weeks. Next week's game is against the 0-2 Buffalo Bills. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-05-2007 at 07:05 PM. |

What kind of editing did you have to do to his rosters for the Jets? As far as things go, yeah, Samuel would be a good pickup, also if Lynch is available he sounds to be the all purpose back the Jets need. As far as the real Jets go, it seems very unlikely Lynch will be available picking in the 20's.

(I'm not sure if you know how the csv player file works..but basically a player is rated from 1-9 and then the individual ratings (e.g. short passing, medium passing) are generated from that number. The thing is, it is basically random. So the only editing i did was edit those individual ratings to make pennington good at short passes and horrible at deep passes, ben graham a booming punter, leon a quick guy and houston a power guy. Just stuff like that. As for the real Jets, i agree with you. Lynch will probably not be there but maybe a good DE will be there, there seems to be alot of depth at that position this year.) |

Week 3: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: LG Wade Smith - Torn Calf Muscle Injured: RB Leon Washington - Hyperextended Knee (Probable) WR Laveranues Coles - Pulled Groin (Probable) DE Kimo von Oelhoffen - Strained Quadriceps Muscle (Probable) WR Brad Smith - Strained Quadriceps Muscle (Probable) QB Chad Pennington - Shoulder Tendinitis (Probable) CB Drew Coleman - Strained Elbow Tendon (Probable) LT D'Brikashaw Ferguson - Hyperextended Knee (Doubtful) Buffalo Bills Out: RG Duke Preston - Pulled Quadriceps Muscle LB Takeo Spikes - Dislocated Shoulder Injured: WR Josh Reed - Broken Wrist (Questionable) RB Willis McGahee - Pulled Groin (Doubtful) CB Nate Clements - Pulled Calf Muscle (Probable) CB Kiwaukee Thomas - Pulled Groin (Probable) Buffalo Bills Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Kelly Holcomb Holcomb is at best an average quarterback. His biggest strength is in the short passing game. He is fairly accurate as well but lacks a deep passing threat. He is very similar to Jets quarterback Chad Pennington. He does not sense the rush well so light and heavy blitzes should be used. RB Willis McGahee McGahee is an excellent back who has tremendous speed to the outside but is also a threat up the middle. He is a tremendous receiving back and will be used as an outlet often. If possible, linebackers with good man-to-man skills should be used in order to stop McGahee from dominating us in both running and receiving. TE Robert Royal Royal is a good run blocking TE with good route running skills, but lacks the hands neccesary to be a true receiving threat. FL Lee Evans Evans should be double teamed at all times in order to reduce the balls thrown his way. He will be open if we play him one on one. Our top receiver should cover the SE, letting our second receiver and the double-teamer cover Evans. SE Peerless Price Price is an average receiver. He doesn't drop the ball too much, and runs his routes well, but is very poor at third down catching. He will be a target because of our double teams on Evans. -OFFENSIVE LINE- This line is rated one of the worst in pass blocking. The best pass blocker on the line is RG Duke Preston, and he is out for the game. The line is also rated pretty poorly in run blocking as well, but our main goal is to put lots of pressure on them. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- LDE Aaron Schobel is excellent at stopping the run and good at pass-rushing. LDT Larry Tripplett is basically the same, so running to our right should be avoided. Their left side of the line is much weaker. RDE Ryan Denney is a poor pass-rusher with decent run-stopping skills, but RDT Kyle Williams is a poor run defender, and should be our main point of attack. With the right side of the defensive line excellent at run-stopping, we should avoid running towards that side. But, because of Takeo Spikes' injury, we should attack that side in the passing game. RLB Angelo Crowell is a very good pass rusher and run defender, and MLB London Fletcher is also very good in both areas. The linebacking core is solid besides the SLB because of the absence of Spikes. -SECONDARY- LCB Nate Clements Clements is an excellent run defender, but that should not come into play because he is towards our right side. He is a very good cornerback and should not be taken lightly. RCB Terrence McGee McGee is the weaker of the two CB's and should be attacked. He is also poor in run defense so runs to the outside may be a little easier. SS Donte Whitner Whitner is a very good safety and deep balls should not be thrown his way. FS Troy Vincent Vincent is not a very good safety, and is definitely the weaker of the two. Deep passes should be thrown to the left side. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - Avoid throwing the ball to the middle of the field, except towards the right side. Takeo Spikes is injured and his replacement is very weak. - Avoid throwing towards LCB Nate Clements and SS Donte Whitner. They are very dangerous on that side of the field. - Attack their weak RDT by running blasts up the middle towards the left side. - Using our two main backs, Washington and Houston, we will keep fresh legs on the field. When a surge of power running is needed, Barlow will come in to move the ball forward. - Protect our QB by keeping in our TE and backs to help pick up their blitzing linebackers. DEFENSE - Protect against short, accurate passes towards FL Lee Evans. Holcolm does not have a good deep or long throw and should not be worried about. - Blitz, blitz, and blitz again. Their offensive line is very poor at pass blocking and their best linemen is injured. Take advantage of this. - For our base 3-4 package, use good run-defending CB's because of McGahee's excellent outside running. - Move #1 CB to RCB to cover Price, and use #2 and double team to cover Evans. |

I am very familiar with the CSV format, I recreated one of the drafts with my NYJets rewind dynasty to reflect the outcome I felt would have happened had I been the GM, do a search for Jets Rewind Dynasty and take a look, it has been some time now, perhaps a year and a half since I have touched it. Was gun ho, then my computer crashed wiping out the game.

Week 3: New York Jets at Buffalo Bills
Post-Game Notes Box Score: Week 3, 2006
played in Buffalo, NY 43 degrees, fair, calm
Drive Charts
Rushing Statistics
Notes: This is a game that we had won in the first quarter of the game. We had a 14-0 lead and blew it. I think the biggest thing we need to work on is playing consistently throughout the entire game. I see good signs at certain times, and at times I see things that we really need to work on. I know that there are growing pains when learing a new system under a new coach but to be inconsistent is inexcusable. We are not playing well under pressure. Although our loss rests in the hands of our inconsistency, I see that we are not playing well under pressure. Even though we let them come back, we had a chance to go on a drive to put us back in the lead, and we fumble on the punt return. Things like this cannot happen, especially in back to back games, with both returns being very important ones. The fumble today led to a field goal that put Buffalo up 17-14. Then the interception put us down another 7 points. There were some positives today. Taking a 14 point lead in the first quarter is a very good thing, but letting that up negates it. I think our running game did fairly well, with Leon taking charge of the game. He proved to me that he can come back form an injury and not lose a step. I think Chad had another good game, minus that interception at the end. As I said, we need to play better under pressure. The offensive line did not do as good as they have in recent weeks, letting up 3 sacks. We did do a good job spreading the ball around as well. The defense did okay today. Some areas did extremely well, we had 5 sacks today which is always an accomplishment. Rookie CB Drew Coleman came up big, cutting off a short, quick pass to McGahee for an INT, the first of his career. He proved to me that a good training camp can sometimes translate into good game-time play. We did give up a lot of yards today. Granted, we were facing a very good running back, but we really need to contain the run. You could tell that once the running game got going, their passing game got going. We let up a 63 yard run to their 2nd running back, which is unacceptable. Next week, we have a very tough game at home and now we are under pressure to win this game to get us back to .500. Injury Report: Leon Washington, RB, is now 100%. Laveranues Coles, FL, is now 100%. Kimo Von Oelhoffen, RDE, is now 100%. Chad Pennington, QB - Shoulder Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Brad Smith, FL - Strained Quadriceps Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. D'Brikashaw Ferguson, LT - Hyperextended Knee, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Drew Coleman, RCB - Strained Elbow Tendon, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Wade Smith, LG - Torn Calf Muscle, Out, full strength in about 3 weeks. Justin McCareins, FL - Strained Rotator Cuff, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Eric Barton, WILB - Bruised Sternum, Questionable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Brandon Moore, RG - Knee Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 5 weeks. Next week's game is against the 1-2 Indianapolis Colts. |

Transaction Update:
After the dissapointing Week 3 loss to Buffalo, the Jets made their first roster move of the season. RT Adrian Jones, a 4th round pick by the Jets in 2004, was traded to the Atlanta Falcons for their 2nd round pick in the upcoming 2007 draft. After an unexpected D.U.I. charge against Jones, the Jets attempted to shop Jones to any teams in need of offensive line help. The Buffalo Bills were the first target that came to mind to GM Mike Tannenbaum, ironically the team they played just days before, who let up 5 sacks against the Jets. They managed to pull out the win, but are in dire need of some offensive line help. However, knowing that the Bills will be an oppenent later on in the season, he wanted to target other teams first, hoping that the Bills offensive line would still be weak later on in the year. It worked, and the Jets contacted the Atlanta Falcons and got a 2nd round pick, a pick which is higher than Tannenbaum expected to get. I guess one team's backup is another team's starter. To fill in the open spot on the Jets roster, they signed veteran RT Jason Mathews, a 3rd round pick in the 1994 draft. After a college career at Texas A&M, Mathews was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. After 4 seasons there, he landed on the Tennessee Oilers, who then the next year became the Titans. At the beginning of the 2006 season, Mathews was released by Tennessee after 12 seasons of having a job. Mathews signed a 1-year deal for $960,000 with no signing bonus. Jason will back up current RT Anthony Clement. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-11-2007 at 08:43 PM. |

Week 4: Indianapolis Colts at New York Jets
Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: LG Wade Smith - Torn Calf Muscle Injured: LB Eric Barton - Bruised Sternum (Questionable) WR Brad Smith - Strained Quadriceps Muscle (Probable) QB Chad Pennington - Shoulder Tendinitis (Probable) CB Drew Coleman - Strained Elbow Tendon (Probable) LT D'Brikashaw Ferguson - Hyperextended Knee (Doubtful) WR Justin McCareins Strained Rotator Cuff (Probable) RG Brandon Moore - Knee Tendinitis (Probable) Indianapolis Out: FS Bob Sanders - ACL Knee Surgery Injured: RG Ryan Lilja - Herniated Disk (Doubtful) DE Dwight Freeney - Sprained Knee (Questionable) C Mike Johnson - Knee Tendinitis (Probable) DT Anthony McFarland - Hyperextended Knee (Probable) Indianapolis Colts Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Peyton Manning Manning is most likely rated by every scout in this league to be the best quarterback in the NFL. He will most likely throw mostly short passes but will be extremely accurate with them. He is also an excellent third down passer. We should also expect to see alot of 3 or 4 WR sets. Manning senses the rush well but we should try and pressure him into making poor decisions and possibly force a turnover that way. RB Joseph Addai Addai is a rookie but is one of the most skilled running backs in the league. He doesn't have very good speed to the outside, but is very powerful running up the middle. Our best run-defenders should be playing the ILB spots. He is also a very good pass-catching RB and will definitely be used in that role as well. TE Dallas Clark Clark is a better blocking back then a pass catching TE, but he is highly skilled in both schools. FL Marvin Harrison Harrison is one of the best receivers in the game today. He is going to be hard to stop. He is an excellent third-down receiver and hardly ever drops the ball. SE Reggie Wayne Wayne has incredible hands and will not drop the ball. He runs his routes perfectly and adjusts to mis-thrown balls. Wayne is the better receiver on first and second down. We should double team Harrison on 3rd. -OFFENSIVE LINE- C Jeff Saturday is one of the top linemen in the league. However, the two guards who flank him are horrendous in pass and run blocking. LT Tarik Glenn is a near-perfect run blocker and is above average in pass blocking, but RT is average at best. This should let us get some good pressure on Manning from the inside and from the strong-side. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- LDE Dwight Freeney is questionable for the game. We should run right at him to put pressure on his sprained knee. RDE Robert Mathis is a good pass rusher but is below-average in run defense. We should try and run outside the tackles. LDT Corey Simon is a very poor run defender. We should run against this team all day. RDT Montae Reagor is also an average run-stopper. The Colts linebackers are all good in run defense, but if we can push through their offensive line we should be in good shape. MLB Gary Brackett is very good, so we should concentrate on running outside the tackles. We should also attempt to get some of their LB's off of the field by using 3 and 4 WR sets. -SECONDARY- LCB Nick Harper Harper is a good bump and run cornerback, but lacks good man-toman and zone skills. We should throw the medium and long passes against him. RCB Marlin Jackson Jackson has no run stopping skills. We should run outside towards him. He is also a good man-to-man defender, but also lacks good man-to-man and zone coverage skills. We should take some more chances deep against these weak CB's. SS Dexter Reid A very poor safety who should be attacked deep throughout the game. FS Jammal Lord A replacement player who should be taken advantage of all day. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - LE Freeney is questionable. If he plays, place our LT Ferguson at RT. - Run mainly outside the tackles, but keep the running game going all day. It is their biggest weakness. - Spread the offense out using 3 and 4 WR sets. This will get their good LB's off of the field and will open up our running game a bit. - Take chances on offense. The CB's are not very good defending deep passes and should be taken advantage of. The starting FS is out for the season and the replacement is nothing to be scared of. Attack him consistently. The starting SS has terrible zone skills. Throw the ball deep against this defense. DEFENSE: - Addai is a better inside runner than outside. Play our best CB's at pass coverage, but use our best run-stopping inside linebackers. - TE Clark is a big threat. Run alot of zone coverage to cover him. - Try and put pressure on Manning. It is the only way to get him to make a bad decision. - Double-team SE Wayne on 1st and 2nd down plays. FL Harrison is a better 3rd down receiver, so double team him then. - Blitz on the inside with our ILB's, and blitz outside from the weak side. |

Notes: I can't even begin to tell you how proud I am of this team. Last week I had this feeling that we just were not performing under pressure and today we had some of the most heart-pounding moments of our season so far and we came through and beat the heavily favored Colts. We did an excellent job playing as a team today. Our coaches did an amazing job scouting the other team and using their weaknesses to our advantage. We had a player playing in a position that he hasn't played in since high school, with Matt Chatham moving in to DE to help stop the Colts very good run game. Our offense did an incredible job moving the football today. The Colts defense is not a push-over, but is there weakness, and that is what wins you football games. Controlling the ball, and attacking their weakness. No one in this league is perfect and if you can attack the imperfections well you will keep yourself in games. Today was a perfect example of that. Our running game did very good today, gaining 158 yards on the ground. Houston and Washington had most of the carries with Barlow helping as well. This is a group that came in this year that had no previous experience working together. We have a rookie in Washington, a 2nd year 6th round pick in Houston, and a first year Jets player in Barlow. They have come together to form a formidable running game that is winning us games. Today Chad did another incredible job moving our team down the field and keeping the ball in our control. At first glance, the lack of yards in Chad's stats may be overlooked but his pass completion percentage has been one of the best in the league, completing 17 of 23 passes today. That also is a compliment to our receivers, who were missing WR Coles after he was injured on the first drive of the game. However, WR Jerricho Cotchery stepped in as the #1 and took control of those duties today. After a dropped pass in the end-zone on the opening drive, he missed only one pass after that, catching 10 of 12 passes thrown his way for 73 yards and then redeemed himself by catching one of those passes in the endzone for 6 points. Our offensive line also did exceptional today with both run blocking and pass blocking, allowing no sacks. Our defense did an exceptional job today. The Colts offense is a well-oiled machine. Both receivers are exceptional. Peyton Manning is one of the best in the world, but our defense has become formidable and kept them at bay today. Our goal today was to get pressure on Manning, and we did. Five players had a sack, including NT Robertson, DE Ellis, DE Hamilton, S Rhodes, and OLB Thomas. Rookie CB Drew Coleman had a good game today as well and is proving himself to be our starter this year. There are still some things that we need to work on. Our kickoff team has been letting up some big runs. Nugent missed a field goal today but I have confidence he will find better accuracy as the season goes on. As you will see in the injury report, the loss of Laveranues Coles is a tough one, but Jerricho Cotchery is a very good receiver and expect Brad Smith and Tim Dwight to find a more active role. Expect Coles to miss 3-5 weeks because of his seperated shoulder. Injury Report: Chad Pennington, QB, is now 100%. Brad Smith, FL, is now 100%. D'Brikashaw Ferguson, LT, is now 100%. Nick Mangold, C, is now 100%. Chris Baker, TE - Bruised Shoulder, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Drew Coleman, RCB - Strained Elbow Tendon, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Wade Smith, LG - Torn Calf Muscle, Questionable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Justin McCareins, FL - Strained Rotator Cuff, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Eric Barton, WILB - Bruised Sternum, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Brandon Moore, RG - Knee Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 5 weeks. Dewayne Robertson, NT - Broken Thumb, Questionable, full strength in about 5 weeks. Laveranues Coles, FL - Separated Shoulder, Out, full strength in about 6 weeks. Next weeks game is against the 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars. |

Week 5: New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars
Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: WR Laveranues Coles - Seperated Shoulder Injured: LG Wade Smith - Torn Calf Muscle (Questionable) LB Eric Barton - Bruised Sternum (Questionable) CB Drew Coleman - Strained Elbow Tendon (Probable) WR Justin McCareins Strained Rotator Cuff (Probable) RG Brandon Moore - Knee Tendinitis (Probable) NT Dewayne Robertson - Broken Thumb (Questionable) TE Chris Baker - Bruised Shoulder (Probable) Jacksonville Jaguars Out: N/A Injured: C Brad Meester - Bruised Ribcage (Probable) DT John Henderson - Elbow Bursitis (Probable) Jacksonville Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Byron Leftwich Leftwich is a quarterback who is very good at all types of passing. He throws alot of long passes and that should be guarded against. He sense the rush very well and read's defenses averagely. He has very good accuracy and very good timing with his receivers. RB Fred Taylor Taylor is an above average back, has little speed to the outside, but is an excellent blocker when he stays in to help. He is a below average 3rd down runner. TE Marcedes Lewis Lewis is a below average pass blocker and an average run blocker. He is an excellent receiving TE and should be concentrated on. FL Matt Jones Jones is an average receiver, but is excellent on 3rd down. He should be double-teamed on 3rd and 4th down. SE Reggie Williams Williams is an average receiver but can bust out the occasional big play. On any down where a big pass may be coming, double team Williams. -OFFENSIVE LINE- C Brad Meester is an excellent offensive linemen. He is a good run blocker and a pretty good pass blocker, but has excellent strength. The two guards are terrible at pass blocking and the RT is very poor, so all blitzes should be focused on that side. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- The two DE's, Paul Spicer and Bobby McCray are very poor at run defense. The two DT's, Marcus Stroud and John Henderson are good run defenders, so running outside the tackles is the best place to run. All three linebackers are also poor run-defenders. MLB Mike Peterson is a very good coverage linebacker and will be dangerous in that aspect. We should throw alot of out patterns to keep the ball away from these dangerous coverage LB's. -SECONDARY- LCB Rashean Mathis Mathis is an excellent corner. Not only does he have very good coverage skills, but also plays the run very well. RCB Brian Williams An amazing cornerback who should not be run towards and not be thrown towards. SS Donovan Darius A very good run stopping safety, but below average in pass coverage. FS Deon Grant A good safety who is a good zone player and shouldn't be tested often. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - Run outside of the tackles. - Throw lots of out patterns to avoid throwing towards their dangerous coverage LB's. DEFENSE: - Protect against long passes. Use loose coverage and start our cornerbacks who play man-to-man coverage best. - Blitz heavily sporadically. Either keep everyone in coverage or blitz 2 to 3 defenders. - Mix in weak-side man coverage to protect against TE Lewis. - Double-team FL Matt Jones on 3rd and 4th down. - Double-team SE Williams on long-pass downs to prevent big gains. - Blitz the SLB to the outside consistently. Week 5: New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars
Post-Game Notes Box Score: Week 5, 2006 played in Jacksonville, FL 61 degrees, fair, 1 mph wind
Drive Charts
Rushing Statistics
Notes: Today, Chad was our MVP. He led this game from the second we started it all the way into our last drive in the 4th quarter. He threw for a career and season high of 360 yards, completing 32 of 53 passes with 2 TD's and one INT. He hit 7 different receivers over the course of the game, hitting Jerricho Cotchery 11 times and Justin McCareins 8 times. We had a goal today of going in against this tough pass defense and showing them, as well as ourselves, that we are capable of beating any team in this league. This is not a rebuilding team like everyone says it is. This is a team that knows it can compete with the best. Our run game was not as prominent today by choice, but rookie Leon Washington got most of the carries, rishing the ball 17 times for 79 yards. Our defense really stood out today. Leftwich is a great quarterback who has succeeded against other top teams in the league and we shut him down today. Safety Kerry Rhodes led the team in tackles with 6, and also had 2 passes defensed. We had an interception by CB Andre Dyson as well as one by safety Erik Coleman. We continued our sack parade today by getting to Leftwich 6 times. Veteran DE Bobby Hamilton added to his sack total with 1.5 sacks today, and OLB Victor Hobson continues his great year adding 2.5. ILB Eric Barton also had one and NT Dewayne Robertson and OLB Cody Spencer shared one. Mike Nugent had a great game today making all 3 of his field goals, and we hope to see games like this from him for the rest of the year. Injury Report: Chris Baker, TE, is now 100%. Wade Smith, LG - Torn Calf Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Eric Barton, WILB - Bruised Sternum, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Drew Coleman, RCB - Strained Elbow Tendon, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Justin McCareins, FL - Strained Rotator Cuff, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Dewayne Robertson, NT - Broken Thumb, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Nick Mangold, C - Pulled Calf Muscle, Out, full strength in about 4 weeks. Trey Teague, C - Strained Triceps Muscle, Questionable, full strength in about 4 weeks. Brandon Moore, RG - Knee Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 4 weeks. Laveranues Coles, FL - Separated Shoulder, Out, full strength in about 5 weeks. Pete Kendall, LG - Separated Shoulder, Out, full strength in about 5 weeks. Next week's game is against the 1-4 Miami Dolphins. |

Week 6: Miami Dolphins at New York Jets
Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: WR Laveranues Coles - Seperated Shoulder LG Pete Kendall - Seperated Shoulder C Nick Mangold - Pulled Calf Muscle Injured: LG Wade Smith - Torn Calf Muscle (Probable) LB Eric Barton - Bruised Sternum (Probable) CB Drew Coleman - Strained Elbow Tendon (Probable) WR Justin McCareins Strained Rotator Cuff (Probable) RG Brandon Moore - Knee Tendinitis (Probable) NT Dewayne Robertson - Broken Thumb (Questionable) C Trey Teague - Strained Triceps Muscle (Questionable) Miami Dolphins Out: WR Wes Welker - Strained Foot Ligament WR Marty Booker - Severe Hamstring Pull Injured: SS Renaldo Hill - Torn Thumb Ligament (Doubtful) LB Keith Adams - Broken Foot (Questionable) LB Keith Newman - Strained Lateral Knee Ligament (Questionable) QB Daunte Culpepper - Bruised Sternum (Probable) LG Jeno James - Strained Rotator Cuff (Probable) Miami Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Daunte Culpepper Daunte has a very strong arm but is not very accurate. He can hurt us with his speed but as for the passing game, he can be defensed easily. He does not sense the rush very well so we should over-load his abilities and pick up sacks. He is a good third-down passes and can read the defense very well. RB Ronnie Brown Brown is a big, powerfull runner. He is very good power to the inside as well as good breakaway speed. He has average speed to the outside, but his real threat is his ability to catch passes out of the backfield. TE Randy McMichael McMichael is an all-around good TE. He blocks well and is an excellent receiving TE. Weak-side man cover should be used to guard against this threat. FL Chris Chambers Chambers will catch most balls thrown his way, but does not run his routes as sharply as he should. He is a below-average third down receiver. SE Devin Aromashodu A replacement starter, Devin is a rookie who gets downfield well, but runs routes poorly. He is not a big threat. -OFFENSIVE LINE- The Dolphins offensive line is very good at run and pass blocking. There really are no holes in this line and blitzes should be spread out across it. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- LDE Jason Taylor is one of the best DE's in the league. He is an excellent pass-rusher and is no push-over when defending the run. RDE David Bowens is not as good of a pass-rusher but is an amazing run-defender. The two DT's are very good run-stuffers. It will be difficult to get the run game going today. MLB Zach Thomas is a perrenial pro-bowler and will be a tackling machine. The two outside linebackers are both very proficient in stopping the run. -SECONDARY- LCB Will Allen Allen is a great cover corner who will cause problems for our passing game. RCB Travis Daniels A 2nd year CB who lacks the skills needed to cover our receivers. He should be attacked all day. SS Yeremiah Bell With the starting SS doubtful, we will most likely see Bell replace him this game. Bell is a fairly good SS but should be tested throughout the game. FS Travares Tillman A similar player to Bell, he is a very average player and should we should attempt to pick on him deep through the game. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - The run game will be difficult to establish. We should attempt to establish the run but attack them through the air most of the game. - Attack their weak RCB Daniels, LCB Allen is very talented and it will be dangerous to throw towards his side. - Attack deep early, and then occasionaly through the game. DEFENSE: - Use man-coverage to prevent long passes from Culpepper. - Blitz heavily. Culpepper does not sense the rush well and has poor accuracy. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-12-2007 at 11:19 PM. |

Transaction Update:
With starting left guard Pete Kendall and the starting rookie center Nick Mangold both out for the Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins, the Jets faced a tough defensive line with backup guard Wade Smith and backup center Trey Teague starting. During the game, G Wade Smith re-injured his calf, and will be out for the season. The Jets have place Smith on Injured Reserve. To fill the empty spot on the team, the Jets have signed guard Tupe Peko, a 6-4, 300 pounder out of Michigan State. The Green Bay packers released Peko at the beginning of the season. Peko is a strong player and is a better at pass-blocking than run-blocking, and will help fill in the battered offensive line. Peko, who was actually drafted by the Jets in the 7th-round of the 2001 NFL Draft, has played his last four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He then was picked up by the Packers at the beginning of this season, but was then cut during training camp. Tupe, and his agent Mike Helkowski, signed a $680,000 one-year contract, with no signing bonus. With regular started Pete Kendall out for at least another week, Peko will get the oppurtunity to start against the Lions this coming Sunday. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-11-2007 at 08:53 PM. |

Week 7: Detroit Lions at New York Jets
Pre-Game Notes New York Jets Out: WR Laveranues Coles - Seperated Shoulder LG Pete Kendall - Seperated Shoulder C Nick Mangold - Pulled Calf Muscle Injured: TE Chris Baker - Shoulder Tendenitis (Probable) CB Justin Miller - Bruised Ribcage (Probable) WR Justin McCareins Strained Rotator Cuff (Probable) RG Brandon Moore - Knee Tendinitis (Probable) NT Dewayne Robertson - Broken Thumb (Questionable) C Trey Teague - Strained Triceps Muscle (Questionable) Detroit Lions Out: N/A Injured: QB Jon Kitna - Sprained Ankle (Probable) CB Keith Smith - Sprained Knee (Probable) Detroit Scouting: -OFEENSIVE BACKFIELD- QB Josh McCown McCown is, at best, a quarterback who is filling in until the Lions can trade for or draft a decent quarterback. He has some decent intangibles, such as good timing and a good sense of the rush, but he has little in the way of actual skills such as making good, accurate throws. He is a terrible third-down passer as well. RB Kevin Jones Jones is a better receiving back, but is still a threat when running the ball. He has good breakaway speed, but has little power to the inside. He runs decently well on 3rd down, so on 3rd or 4th and short situations we should protect heavily against the run. TE Dan Campbell Cambell is quick. He will get down the field in a hurry, but is terrible when it comes to receiving skills. He drops a ton of balls and runs routes extremely bad. He is a great blocker though, and has a ton of courage. FL Roy Williams Williams is a dangerous receiver. He is basically the only way the Lions can hurt us through the air. He should be double-teamed often. He can go deep fast, so there should be a lot of 2-deep defensive sets. SE Mike Furrey Lacks alot of good receiving skills but is a big-play receiver. He will burn our CB's so there should always be safeties playing back. -OFFENSIVE LINE- The Lions have a very average offensive line. There are no very strong points, and there really are no very weak points. C Dominc Raiola is the best on the line, so we should focus our attacks on the outside. -DEFENSIVE FRONT- LDT Shaun Rogers is a beast. He will wreck havok when we run as well as when we pass. LDE James Hall is a good run-stopper but lacks a real pass-rush threat. RDE Kalimba Edwards is a good pass-rusher but can get beat to the outside. We should focus our run-game outside of our LT. The Lions biggest strength is their outside linebackers. They both protect the run and are good pass-rushers. Establishing our run is going to be hard because of these two. -SECONDARY- LCB Dre Bly Bly is a shutdown corner. He excells in man-to-man defense and has no real weaknesses. We should attempt to stay away from him this game. RCB Fernando Bryant Bryant is an aging veteran who turned out to be a bust. He is not very good in coverage and lacks good run stopping skills. He comes up with a few interceptions but it seems he is just getting lucky. SS Kenoy Kennedy Kennedy is a pretty good safety. He plays good zone coverage, but other than that, he is pretty well-rounded and a little bit above average, FS Daniel Bullocks Bullocks is a rookie who hasn't quite developed into starting material. He is a hard hitter but lacks good coverage and lets receivers play into his weaknesses. Gameplan: OFFENSE: - Run outside of our LT. - Focus on the passing game because of their great, run-stopping OLB's. - Attack FS Bullocks deep on occasion. DEFENSE: - On 3rd or 4th and short, defend against the run. Jones has decent third down running skills, but McCown is an awful third down passer. - Double-team Lions flanker Roy Williams. He is a big threat. - Play a lot of 2-deep man sets. They have two receivers who are "big-play" receivers. - Attack with outside blitzes. Last edited by JetsIn06 : 01-12-2007 at 11:23 PM. |

Drive Charts
Rushing Statistics
Notes: Today was a very good game, and I am very proud of our players. We put ourselves in a position to go into the bye week with a winning streak, something that will help us out going into the second part of the season. Today held alot of good things on offense, and alot of bad things on offense. Our goal is to be consistent. We seem to have trouble staying consistent throughout a game, and it reared its head again today. Our first two drives, covered 80 yards on 14 plays, and then 72 yards on 15 plays, respectively. You can't really ask for more. After that drive, however, we did not have one drive consisting of more than 3 plays. It is in part due to more conservative play-calling because of our lead but it is a very bad statistic to have. We will still be working on that in practice. The other side of the ball was a different story. We racked up a very impressive 9 sacks today coming from 7 different players. Obviously we did a good job confusing them with our multiple blitz packages and our players executed the plays well. You can't really ask for much more than that. Our team now leads the league in sacks and we will hopefully keep that up as the season goes on. Rookie CB Drew Coleman also returned an interception for a TD in the 4th quarter, which is always a good thing to see. He has been doing very good in the starting role. Injury Report: Chris Baker, TE, is now 100%. Trey Teague, C - Strained Triceps Muscle, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Dewayne Robertson, NT - Broken Thumb, Probable, full strength in about 1 week. Justin McCareins, FL - Strained Rotator Cuff, Probable, full strength in about 2 weeks. Nick Mangold, C - Pulled Calf Muscle, Doubtful, full strength in about 2 weeks. Kerry Rhodes, SS - Hyperextended Elbow, Doubtful, full strength in about 2 weeks. Sean Ryan, TE - Broken Toe, Questionable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Laveranues Coles, FL - Separated Shoulder, Questionable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Brandon Moore, RG - Knee Tendinitis, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Justin Miller, RCB - Bruised Ribcage, Probable, full strength in about 3 weeks. Pete Kendall, LG - Separated Shoulder, Out, full strength in about 4 weeks. Wade Smith, LG - Torn Calf Muscle, Out, full strength in about 9 weeks. Next week's game is against the 1-5 Cleveland Browns. |
