That lane was good for Cincinnati. I think the committee might have put OK State in ahead of them if they would have win that game.

They definitely would have. OK State had a great resume and was only below Cincy because they started off the year so low in the rankings.

Have to imagine Cincy is in with a win but Houston is no slouch.

Georgia can't settle for field goals and expect to win. Bennett looks erratic. Nearly a pick six in the first drive, and Bowers jumped 12 feet in the air to catch one that would have been picked.

Bennett settling down better on this drive. It helps having George Pickens back to make that adjustment for a big catch.

GA has been able to move the ball pretty well the past couple series. The GA offense looks adequate so far.

I think it comes down to whether GA defense can control AL offense for the full 60 min.

EDIT: uh oh

That was the first major mistake I have seen on defense all season. Someone wasn't were they were supposed to be.

These "current standings" reflect all possible records...
* denotes conference champ, or would-be conference champ.

Secure Spots

(Alabama 12-1*) - beat Georgia and you deserve the top seed
(Georgia 13-0*)/(Georgia 12-1) - Either #1 or #2, no one is currently close.
(Michigan 12-1*)
(Cincinnati 13-0*)

If Spots Open

Notre Dame 11-1
Baylor 11-2*
(Alabama 11-2)
(Iowa 11-2*)

For Notre Dame, it's simply about independence. Thanks for not playing Mercer, New Mexico State and Texas Southern, but the conference championship game is a big deal.

Baylor probably gets a boost for beating one of the two teams it lost to this season. It will be a long, tough decision if both Baylor and Notre Dame are up for the fourth spot.

Alabama - it's more about whether they lose to Georgia badly enough that we don't want to see it again. I think the committee wants to put them #3 if they're included, as well. If both Michigan and Cincinnati win and Alabama doesn't get blown out today, Alabama could be #3.

Iowa - you have to discuss a two-loss major conference champion. It's a long shot, but if Alabama gets blown out and Cincinnati loses, well, here they are. Michigan can't be here, because Iowa would have just beaten them. Ohio State can't be here, because Michigan beat them fairly convincingly last week. And Alabama dominated Ole Miss, just in case there's any discussion about the Tide and the Rebels in the same sentence. Should the champion rule also apply to the ACC winner? Probably, but that's a very, very short discussion.

Good Seasons, Not Good Enough

(Michigan 11-2)
Oklahoma State 11-2
Ohio State 10-2
Mississippi 10-2

It's a real ball game now.

GA defense must be a little demoralized right now. Young had some great passes into tight coverage.

I said that the Alabama would be a different team this week than they were last week. Now do you see what I was talking about?

Very doubtful but they earned their mulligan the previous 11 weeks of dominance.

I've been trying to focus on the Alabama receivers. They run great routes. So far, if I'm trying to make the decision and I'm using the eye-test on this game, I would want both teams in the playoff.

Tied game, but it feels like Georgia is scrapping on offense while Alabama is playing a video game.

Nice way to put it.

Not sure how, but GA needs to make half time adjustments to limit those pass plays.

Ive thought Georgia's offense looks great from what Ive previously seen from them this year.

The scary part for Georgia IMO is their defense isnt dictating this game at all. They dont really want to play a shootout with bama.

It is going to get real uncomfortable if the officials stop letting the teams play with the hands in the secondary.

Championship teams get off the mat and pick it up in the second half. Georgia has to fix horrid secondary play in the second half.

So, long way to go, but if this holds & Georgia ends up losing big, they are still in the CFP, right?

There isn't a number that Alabama could score that would knock Georgia out of the playoffs.

So, if current results stand, I think we can lock in 3 of the 4 playoff teams.

Alabama
Georgia
Cincinnati

Michigan would have that fourth spot locked up if they win, but if Iowa pulls off the upset, what then? Notre Dame?

Just up it to eight teams. If both these teams end up getting in there's really no point to this game, is there?

If Michigan wins, Alabama and UGA should be 2- 3 but of course they won't have a rematch in the 1st round. So who do they move up/down and what is their BS excuse?

Bama would be number one with the same record and having just beat the number one team in the country. That is not even a stretch.

I will say this even as a Georgia fan, I don't think they deserve to be in the playoffs if they lose this game. Two teams from the same conference shouldn't be in unless there is no team with as good a record available. This should be a playoff play-in game, and the losing team didn't play well enough to be in.
That is not what is going to happen, but it should.

It's still a game. I have zero confidence in the Tide's running game.

Georgia has to keep throwing, and the chances of another Stetson interception is really high.

In a normal year maybe but there's no one else more deserving than Georgia. I fully expect a GA - Bama rematch in the Championship game.

I get playing the game until the end but I would like to get my team off the field without any injuries as opposed to picking up yards in garbage time.

Hard to figure this shit out sometimes. Auburn gives up 43 to Miss St but holds bama in check. Georgia has probably been the best defensive team in the past 30 years up until today when Alabama lights them up through the passing game. If last week would have never have happened this outcome would have made more sense.

Kiffin extends with Ole Miss

Adam Schefter on Twitter: "Ole Miss announced it has agreed to a new contract for HC Lane Kiffin."

My question is whether that more likely means Cristobal IS Miami bound ... or if it means he ISN'T?

I'm rooting for Michigan so that that a B10(16?) team gets in the playoffs. However since the teams I root for generally lose then Iowa is the clear favorite in this game.

I think I can make an argument that Cincy has a better schedule than GA now.

Wow, what a missed opportunity. Iowa was calling good plays until that run on 3rd and 5 and then missed an easy FG.

No, not really. Remember, even with a loss the SoS rises by playing Bama.

Based on the numbers going into today, Georgia played 2 of Sagarin* top 10 teams, Cincy played 1. Beyond that, Georgia played FIVE other Sagarin Top 40 teams to Cincy's one (Houston was conveniently #40 going into today). Cincy's next best opponent was UCF, ranked #61.

* I use that, flaws and all, just cause it's one I can always find easily

It still wouldn't have made sense if you throw out last week. Alabama was struggling to a degree for the last half of the year. Any given Saturday and all that, games aren't played on paper, etc.

Gonna disagree 100% with this. Georgia's overall body of work this year is still head and shoulders above anyone else's, including Alabama. Otherwhise what we're basically saying is stuff like losing to Texas A&M, almost losing to Auburn and should have lost, etc., isn't as bad as losing to a far better team in the SEC championship. If we're going that way it makes more sense to eliminate the conference title games entirely and just base the champion off the regular-season records.

Too few games against too few quality opponents, plus randomness. Like those seasons when NE would get blown out by the Bills in week 1, or someone else in the course of the year but go on to win the SB. Play 16 games against each other and maybe these teams go 13-3 or 12-4 (or even if they go 15-1, there's still that 1).
