Yeah, he really did have a late surge. Plus 3000 hits though it's crazy how with the 24 hour news cycle and post-PED era, baseball records just don't resonate like they once did.

I voted "still needs to prove more" 4 years ago. Today, I would vote yes.

I voted no back in the day.

And my reasoning was lack of dominance. He just didnt dominate.

But I do longevity also. And Beltre is creeping into my yes category as he hits milestones. In fact, I would probably vote yes since he got his 3000 hit.

I'm still trying to figure out which one is Beltre and which one is Beltran.

He's an interesting case. His JAWS puts him fairly easily as he ranks 7th among catchers and surpasses the average HoF catcher in every category they measure.

In his 10 years as a catcher he triple slashed .323/.405/.469 with elite defense at a premium defensive position. Comparing his career to Yogi he had 27 less hits and nearly identical OPS and OPS+

When you think of Mauer you generally don't think HoFer, but when you break down his career I think he falls on the safe side of getting in fairly comfortably. I think what drags him down in people's minds is playing in Minnesota, never winning a postseason series, and his league average run as a first baseman to close out his career.
