FOF 7 vs 8 vs 9 which to buy

Interested in getting back into this game after a long absence...FYI I have zero interest in game management, creating plays, etc. I just want to do the owner and GM parts and then simulate the games. I also have no interest in joining multi-player leagues. Given that, does 8 or 9 buy me much if anything over 7? It's hard to say just looking at screenshots on Steam. Anyone who's used two or three of these have impressions?

Still tied down to Steam. ugh.

If you were into multiplayer, I'd recommend FOF8, but then you probably already upgraded from FOF7 to FOF8 because the rest of the league did.

I'm not much of a single player for FOF, but I do believe FOF9 is an upgrade over FOF7. Both FOF8 and FOF9 have a confusing interface/menu option (and those two are also very different), that take a learning curve to get used to, but under the hood they do give you an improved game engine.

If you care for realistic playoffs format and game week schedules, FOF9 is the only legitimate option. In FOF8 you'll be stuck in the 16-game 12-playoff-team format. If you care for customization to recreate pre 2002 seasons, FOF9 is also the only option.

There’s nothing confusing about the FOF9 interface. It’s pretty straightforward. It’s probably just very different from FOF7/8, which are quite outdated.

Check out Snaqzaddy on YouTube. He’s making FOF9 GM playthroughs, and you can see for yourself.

The only real diff that I can tell is that 9 has that "dark" skin, which tbh I don't care for. I wish he'd give options to change the color scheme...I never liked that drab yellow/olive green UI either. And tbh I've yet to see a good UI on this game. Amazing to me how little it's changed over the years.

Sounds like it's probably not worth spending the extra money on 8 or 9. Thanks!

Well, you answered your questions. There are eight UI color options in FOF9. I think Ash is pretty decent.

Snaq got me into FOF9 and now I can't go back to 8 or 7. Really good series with different teams he has on his YT channel.

More like 30 different UI colors, plus the fact you change the font is HUGE.

Yes it's under global settings. I'm using Cobalt currently for this run with the Cowboys.

To each their own, I do not find it straightforward, I found it confusing. I think it's fair to be open about the interface being very different from what a FOF7 player is used to. That said, I tried to point out it should not be a reason not to dive into FOF9.

I agree.. it takes some time to get familiar where everything is compared to previous versions, at least it took me quite some time to actually come back to it and actually enjoy playing it once I made myself learn the interface.

If all you want is to be GM, then FOF7 is a fine choice.
