Marlboros Gómez Fires No-Hitter
Sunday, April 25th, 2128: No hitters are rare. But the fans at Ballpark of Toronto received a special gift as Mario Gómez of the Marlboros tossed a no-hitter against the Hammersmith Hooligans. He was masterful as he struck out 12 and walked 1 in a 4-0 Toronto victory. In all Gómez faced only 28 batters. Gómez did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Hooligans. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way.

The Hammersmith manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings."

"I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," Gómez said to reporters.

To date Gómez is 2-0 in 5 starts with a 3.58 ERA and has 33 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.

Gomez is the first Toronto pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Lyndon Beacher did it 12 seasons ago

Peña CL's #1 Pitcher in April

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 26 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.30 ERA in 34.2 innings of work.

Republic League #1 Hurler is Sentner
Tuesday, June 1st, 2128: Don Sentner took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in May. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Chico last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.27 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 49.2 innings and striking out 32.

To this point in the season Sentner has 9 wins and 1 loss and a 1.89 ERA.

Hirst Is May's Top Starter
Tuesday, June 1st, 2128: Stewart Hirst has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-2 record. No pitcher in the Continental League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 6 starts Hirst compiled a 1.67 ERA, putting up a 4-2 record, striking out 32 and tossing 43 innings.

To date this season Hirst sports a 6-4 mark with a 2.22 ERA in 10 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .218 batting average and has 51 strikeouts in 65 innings.

Kishita Takes Home RL Top Batter Award
Tuesday, June 1st, 2128: Free agent-to-be Goro Kishita has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Republic League Batter of the Month.

In May, the 30-year-old Hartford center fielder hit .336 with 7 home runs and 22 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Batting .290 to date, Kishita has 9 home runs and 38 RBIs.

Hiang-ta Weng Named Best CL Batter in May
Tuesday, June 1st, 2128: Hiang-ta Weng battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Weng told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Weng hit .345 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

This season Weng has hit at a .340 clip with 47 RBIs, 10 home runs and 33 runs scored.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2128: Youngster Rafael Gómez emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .314 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Gómez enjoy the limelight.

This season-to-date Gómez has 8 home runs and a .261 batting average.

May's Best Newcomer Named by CL
Tuesday, June 1st, 2128: This month Alberto Román bashed, belted and battered just about every Continental League pitcher in his path as he put up some substantial numbers to win the Rookie of the Week honors.

Day in and day out throughout May, the Apex center fielder punished opposing teams with base hits, finishing with a .303 average. Román went 23-76 in 24 games with 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, and 9 runs scored.

Román has a .216 average and a .308 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 37 hits, 3 home runs and driven in 14 runs.

Toronto's Relief Ace Top Pitcher in June
Thursday, July 1st, 2128: Roberto Dávila has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Marlboros bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 23 strikeouts in 18 innings, holding the opposition to a .167 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record.

In June the Toronto hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .265 average with 22 hits, 1 home run and 12 RBIs.

Presently Legault is batting .322 with 1 home run and 29 RBIs. He has played in 68 games and scored 38 times.

Gosse at His Best, Whips Millers
Saturday, July 10th, 2128: Everything clicked on the hill today for Milton Gosse of the Halifax Winter Wolves as he hurled his club to a 9-0 shutout win over the Noblesville Millers, limiting them to 4 hits while recording 11 strikeouts and yielding 3 walks. He overpowered some batters with his fastball and buckled knees with his sharp breaking pitches.

"We had our shot at him a couple of different times," the Millers manager said, "but we weren't able to get to him."

For the year Gosse has a 6-7 record with a 3.79 ERA in 18 starts.

Third Baseman Nabs RL Rookie Award
Sunday, August 1st, 2128: Ron McDonald's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Chico third baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

Chávez Heads the Rookie Class

In 26 games Chávez batted .308 for Apex, slapping 28 hits in 91 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 11 runs and scored 11 times.

Gilroy Tabbed as August's Starter of the Month
Wednesday, September 1st, 2128: When Stan Gilroy takes the mound, a Hartford victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in August.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and a 1.66 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 43.1 innings, fanned 25 and held opposing batters to a .248 average.

That's why the Harpooners starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

This season Gilroy has 15 wins and 7 losses and a 2.68 ERA.

Brooklyn Reliever August's Best Pitcher
Wednesday, September 1st, 2128: Luis Magana was the anchor in the Brooklyn bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for August. The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 13 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 2-0 record with 14 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 0.00 ERA.

So far this season Magana has 23 saves in 55 relief appearances with a 4-4 mark and 4.17 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .232 against him.

Maxime Legault Named RL Rookie of Month
Wednesday, September 1st, 2128: What a fantastic August it was for Maxime Legault! The Toronto second baseman battered Republic League hurlers for a .277 batting average as he easily claimed the Rookie of the Month Award.

He tallied 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored in the month-long assault. Legault also had 12 walks for a .388 on-base percentage.

If he continues to outpace the rookie class like this, he could very well be the 2128 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award winner.

Legault has collected 120 hits for the Marlboros this year, 3 of them home runs. He has also netted 48 RBIs and scored 58 runs while batting .293.

Noblesville Starting Pitcher August's #1 Rookie

Wednesday, September 1st, 2128: He's only in his debut season, but Christian White performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Noblesville Millers and walked away with August's Continental League Rookie of the Month Award in the process.

Last month this young hurler recorded 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. He threw 34 innings, giving up 12 walks, fanning 34 and compiling a 3.18 ERA.

To date this season White is 10-9 with 25 starts and an ERA of 4.79 with 108 strikeouts in 139 innings.
