As near as I can tell, the closest correlation to winning in FOOLH at least in 1903 was fielding percentage. At least among the playoff teams, there was not really any indicator such as ERA or runs scored that was consistent that the 4 playoff teams were among the top performers, yet fielding % they all were.

That has definitely been a focus of mine early going here. With very few strikeouts and not that many home runs it means a ton of balls are put into play. Obviously there is only so much you can do to try to reduce the number of balls that are put into play for hits, but I have been trying to focus on helping myself however I can in that regard. |

Well that was anit-climactic. And you took the easy way out. I was really looking forward to the FOFC puzzle of "Boston 11, Boston 6, Boston leads 3-0"

Probably the last one for me for a few seasons. I took some financial gambles to try to get in talent that I felt was good enough to win again, but now I'm losing too many key players to compete next season. Going to have to stock up a few cheaper players for a few seasons before I'm back I imagine. Too much competition in the league to be able to coast in yearly. |

I thought I had enough for one last playoff run this season but I stuck a guy at 3B that committed nearly 80 errors. I'll learn from that. I'm losing a few guys to FA that I simply can't afford if I want to pay other players in the coming years. Hopefully someone will sign them and give me some extra picks, if not, I'll sign them and try to make another go of it.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I have nearly $30 million over the salary cap worth of contracts that i can't afford.. So this is going to be one heck of a good free agency period for someone. |

Am I added in yet at Louisville? Hopefully I won't embarrass the team that was 2 wins away from the World Series!

From what I can tell, it looks like you are set up for Louisville. If you have issues, just post in this thread, many of us can help get you going when DC isn't around. |

Cool works! It does say Error Could Not Find Historical Database...Please Check Database Path! Also do I just select my own password? Finally is this still in effect? Any new owner that joins the league is entitled to cut at no cost $20 million total value worth of contracts as a 1 time option during the FOOL Classic sim of their first complete season in the league. This does not apply to old owners coming back or old owners switching teams. An owner can cut more than $20million worth of contracts, however any overage would have to come off of the following season’s salary cap. Thanks! |

That won't impact anything at all. You can ignore the error all together. if it bugs you, I can find the thread where I told people how to get rid of it, I don't remember the path off the top of my head though. Yep, just go into your manager options and change your password to whatever you want. It will auto-upload with your export. Quote:
I -assume- it is because Dark Cloud said this league is using the same financial rules as FOOL-X (with a few exceptions). Just to be sure, drop Dark Cloud a PM (so he doesn't miss this post in the thread) asking him if it still applies, and if so let him know what you are wanting to cut. If he says it is not in effect, do me a favor and let me know too so I can edit it out of the rules Last edited by Alan T : 08-21-2009 at 06:17 PM. |

There was a time in FOOL where anyone could release a player no matter how large a contract and you would not be penalized. But I don't know if that strategy is still viable or how to implement it.

You still can release a player for no penalty, but the game will take it out of your budget. So if the player's salary is too large it will limit what you can spend on the next season is all. |

Everyone seems to start with $15mil in addition to the media revenue, so you could release anyone, anytime up to $15 mil and be OK for next season.

That is because of the max cash being set to $15mil. What that means is if you end up making more money than $15mil, you are limited to just $15 mil in cash going into the next season. If you go more than $15mil in debt, the debt gets reduced to only -$15mil. So most likely you made more than $24mil extra the previous season, released someone who cost you $9mil, but still kept you above $15mil in extra cash, if that makes sense.
For a comparison, look at my finances, I went even further over, and you can see how I felt the pain a good bit because of it:
If I am still not making sense, let me know and I can try to explain it better. It is a bit confusing, but that is just how OOTP is. |
