Ali and Howe both in the same week. You could make good arguments that they were both the best ever in their sports, although I think most people would rank Gretzky higher than Howe.

I thought Mario was regarded as second best by most........ I stopped following hockey after he retired. The last few years I rarely hear about hockey. It can not be as popular as it once was. Which makes me think about the huge decline in boxing. It's strange to see a boxing headline as no one cares about today's heavyweight boxers. Hopefully hockey does not become as popular as boxing is in the US.

They are both great in different ways. Howe changed the way hockey was viewed and played. He did it all: score, pass, fight, and grind in the corners. He played every position except goalie.

I would take them in this order: Howe, Lemieux, Gretzky. That's just me though, and I suspect I am in the minority.

At any rate, we lost a great one today. The greatest one.

RIP #9.
