It's remarkable how almost every time a Leafs player has the puck it's announced it's said players first NHL Game.

Forgot to mention

Penguins make a trade!!!!!

Mike Zigomanis from Phoenix...for the ever popular future considerations.
It makes no sense to me. He was on waivers last week, and they let him go unclaimed. Now, I know the future considerations will be like a 6th rounder...but why give that up if you could have had him for free last week?

In either case...I guess he becomes the 4th line center. He's a RH, which we have 1 forward whose a righty currently. And maybe he can win faceoffs.

I could be wrong since he was on the bench but I am pretty sure that was all Lilja's fault.

Not season related truly, but wanted to post this.

Former NHL goalie recovering after shooting - NHL - Yahoo! Sports

Quote:
MINDEN, Nev. (AP)—Clint Malarchuk, the former NHL goalie best known for having his jugular vein slashed by a skate in a 1989 game with Buffalo, is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the chin with a rifle.
Wife Christy told sheriff’s deputies that the .22-caliber rifle discharged after her husband placed the butt on the ground between his legs. He had been shooting rabbits.
The 47-year-old former player, now a goalie coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets, was flown by helicopter to a Reno hospital for treatment Tuesday.
“Our concern is with Clint and his well being,” the Blue Jackets said Thursday. “We are optimistic that he will have a full recovery very soon.”

Last year's 7 game series against the Habs really has me amped again for Bruins hockey. I'm really excited to see the young guys develop, Kessel, Lucic, Krejci, Wheeler and Bergeron. I'd normally be dead asleep by 10:30, but I'm making the season opener tonight.

The Red Wings won the NHL championship.

The Leafs beat the Red Wings.

Therefore... The winner, and nnnneeeewwwwwwwww World Champion, the Toronto Maple Leafs!

(Cue 9,000 or so fans of other teams making the same "plan the parade joke" tomorrow...)

Well Bergeron hasn't looked too sharp on those two breakaways but Kessel and Wheeler have looked just fine.

it was. Tough to see the Avs lose, but I felt they played pretty well overall. The Bruins just seemed to get the bounces at the right time.

Paul Stastny is a heck of a player. I rarely see the Avs play so I'm just learning this now. I'm glad I have him on my fantasy team.

Two excellent, if somewhat depressing, stories on the NHL's cap system:
globesports.com: Salary system can't save the have-nots
globesports.com: The giant sucking sound

Quote:
So these are the spoils of victory.

Weak franchises teetering on the brink. Strong franchises unhappily pouring good money after bad. A salary management system in which payrolls increase even for teams that have barely benefited from the revenue streams that push the numbers ever higher. Some extremely grumpy owners at both ends of the spectrum.

Think maybe Gary Bettman would like to take a mulligan right now, and start all over?

Kings sign Anze Kopitar to 7 year/$47.6M ($6.8M per) extension

About a week after they sign Patty O'Sullivan to a 3 year deal worth $2.9M per.

Kopitar and Paul Stastny have almost identical career numbers. Stastny is due to get an extension this fall as well, and I'm guessing it will be right in that ballpark.

Quite a fight in the Sabres-Islanders game. The Islander guys look like they jumped the Sabres guys. I liking Rivet a lot.

Sabres go up 4-0 in the 2nd. The Islanders try to start 3 fights on the face-off, lose all three fights terroibly to Sabre players (Kaleta literally body slammed his opponent to the ice) all 6 players fighting got tossed.

Por Islanders can't even win a frustration fight =)

I'm looking at the NHL.com boxscore but I only see fighting majors to three Isles players. How do you get a one way fighting major?

It's nice that we have a quality backup for Miller. It's going to help this team down the stretch. MSG absolutely blows.

They probably just haven't caught up yet. They tossed mair, Kaleta, and Rivet from buffalo as well.

Do you see any suspensions from either side coming? Hecht's injury has me worried.

MSG takes about a month to get their shit straight, after that the programing is pretty solid.

I'm impressed with lalime's play as well, though we'll have to see how he does over time. he's always beena decent goalie but he tends to be very streaky. It will make a huge difference for Miller if he can get 20 games off this season.

End of last year miller played 35 straight games and they were all playoff intensity which just wore Miller out.

UPDATE: Adam Mair for buffalo back from the locker room and sitting in the penalty box.

Not sure what actually happened to hecht, he wasn't even on the ice at the time.

Mair and Thompson back on the ice for Buffalo/NYI respectively.

Not really sure WHO got what penalties at this point.

Ok now Mair AND Thimpson have both been tossed back to the dressing rooms for....who knows what reason. no-one, including the official scorer (camera shot of him yelling at the referee) have a clue as to what should be what.

Top Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov has died during a game in the KHL.

He apparently collapsed on the bench after colliding with a teammate during a line change. Some reports say it may have been Jagr who ran into him.
