I know I have until 8:30 tonight to make my pick. I'm going to make it after dinner. Sorry for slowing us down, folks. Real life got in my way!

Man how dare you!!

On a side note someone please let me know how weird it is that i am going to the following on Sunday? The wife thinks i am a nut, which i am but i just need a fantasy baseball players perspective.

Fantasy Baseball Forums - First Pitch Seminars - BaseballHQ.com

Welcome! For those of you who have never attended one of our
events before -- either these local forums or our annual Arizona
symposium -- you are in for a treat. It is one thing to be able
to gather the information you need from books, magazines and
websites, but the value of direct interaction with some of the
top analysts in the game is immeasurable. As a speaker myself, I
still look forward to participating as an attendee; I always
learn something new from my fellow panelists.

Here are a few items you should be aware of...

WALK-INS... We will accept registrations at the door for each
forum. The walk-up rate is $39. The $29 discounted rate is still
good up until 48 hours prior to the event weekend (which means,
through tonight). So if you still have some friends who would
like to attend, let them know it's better to register in advance
(it also helps us know how many handouts to bring!).

To register for:
CLEVELAND
BaseballHQ.com | Marketplace
CHICAGO
BaseballHQ.com | Marketplace

SCHEDULE... We make every attempt to pack as much information
into the three hours as we can, so we will be keeping to a firm
schedule. The forums will begin PROMPTLY at their planned start
times (check the web site to make sure you know your city's
schedule). Make sure you arrive at last 15 minutes early so you
can get your information packet and settle in. Some folks arrive
as much as a half hour early to make sure they get a good seat.

ON YOUR FORUM DATE... all you need to do is show up at the forum
site. There will be a registration table where you will be
greeted by one of the speakers, panelists or a writer from
Baseball HQ. Your name will be checked against the registration
list and you'll receive some welcome materials. Please take your
seat quickly.

RULES... You will receive an information cover sheet with some
general rules for the forums. Rather than taking the time to
go over these housekeeping issues, you can read about them as you
take your seat. Nothing too heavy, just information about time
for questions, breaks and the availability of goodies.

GOODIES... Regarding goodies, there will be a bunch of them. Here
is the current list of items that will be available, and the
discounted prices where known:

Ron Shandler's 2009 Baseball Forecaster ($20)
Deric McKamey's 2009 Minor League Baseball Analyst ($15)
Baseball HQ special 2009 season rate ($69)
Fanball magazines

Samples of everything will be available for review on the
registration table.

DRESS... is casual.

SMOKING... is not permitted in the conference rooms at any time.

I only had two names on my list for this round and samifan took the other. Maybe it's for the best as hitters are usually better in the first few rounds but Haren is definitely ace material.

Ramzavail, MizzouRah, Travis- you're up

Ok, quick review of the weekend rules.

The clock is still running from 8am-10pm CT. However, there are no morning rules. So, if the next pick doesn't happen in the next half hour, there are 5 1/2 hours on the clock tomorrow (until 1:30pm).

Keep in mind, on Sunday night, we go back to regular rules for Monday morning. So, a pick made at 8:30pm Sunday night has the next pick by 9am Monday or 9pm+ Sunday becomes 10am Monday.

So, if you're going to be out for parts of the day on Saturday or Sunday- perhaps a list would be a good idea. Frankly, I'm going to be gone a lot of Sunday so I might see about a list myself.

sooner333 has about 30 minutes to go. If he doesn't pick, he gets Russell Martin. And then it's back to Toddzilla, Travis, and MizzouRah.

I won't be around in 30 minutes so, if he doesn't pick by 10:25 CT, could someone post the pick and then we can move onto the next one.

I should be back in about 2 hours. Our plans for today (going to a museum here) were scratched since we're due for a few hours of sleet followed by 3-5 inches of snow starting around 1. WTF? Am I back in Kansas?!? How is it March and we're getting winter weather-d out?

seriously, this is the first time in 3 years of drafting that I actually took someone else's pick. I feel honored. And Damned. I kind of like it.

This was the first pick where I really had to throw together a lot of data and thoughts and, in general, put together a drafting strategy for the rest of the draft. In short, no one really stood out.

If only I knew what the draft for the next 5 rounds would look like- I would know if this was a bad idea or good idea. I went with the "conservative" pick rather than the aggressive one- lower ceiling but more safe.

6.7 JJ Hardy, SS, Mil

CBR? You back, armed with much fantasy baseball knowledge? How was it?

I spent my afternoon doing fantasy baseball homework but it was at home, watching basketball, and avoiding the ice outside?

Okay just a quick report on the seminar i went today. There were about 100 people there and the seminar was led by Ron Shandler of Baseballhq.com. A couple of the other guys there were, Rick Wilton of Baseball Injury Report, Todd from Mastersball.com and a fourth guy that writes for BaseballHQ.com. I was amazed at how much info these guys new about even the obscure players. Rick Wilton was incredibly knowledgable about players that were hurt last year and where they are on the recovery as well as guys to look out for possible injuries this year. With this being the first year back in Fantasy Baseball since 1998 for me i sat back and took in all of the info. Some of the topics were 5 $10 pitchers who could earn $25, 8 undervalued veterans over 30 and 9 players who could break down in 2009 (3 of which are in the Cubbies starting rotation). For $29 it was a great time to pick some of the "experts" minds as well as mix and mingle with people who know what a 5X5 league is. Probably nothing really earth shattering but definitely some good info.

Ron Shandler knows his stuff. Anyone that's interested in fantasy baseball should read Sam Walker's "Fantasyland," which came out a couple of years ago. The book chronicles Walker's first season in Tout Wars, the most prestigious of the expert roto leagues in the country. Shandler and current ESPN fantasy gurus Matthew Berry and Jason Grey are all featured regularly in the book since they all played in the same league. They invited Walker, a WSJ columnist with no fantasy experience, to join the league. It's a fun and informative read.
