Indeed. He is, to me, an example of a very big name that was still left on the board. I don't agree with the person(s) who said we don't have any big names left right now. I still can think of some others. Even Polo is a big name, and certainly an intriguing and well thought choice for Diplomat.

As was Marco Polo. One of the few I hadn't even thought of, honestly.

Yeah there are tons of American Air people that I would look at, but Glenn is near the top. Only other person that I was highly considering from the U.S. would have been Chuck Yeager (people know his test pilot feats, but not as many know about his military career or involvement in the cold war).

I'll leave my comments there, as I don't want to comment about non-americans that can still be chosen

I was going to take yeager in the 3rd, but Glenn is a really, really good choice too.

I love the Polo pick.. who here doesn't honestly know the name Marco Polo from childhood games? Wow.. great pick.

Napolean is solid too, very solid.

I think there are still a lot of great choices out there. It will be interesting to see the people that veer away from American-centric names.

Nope, I took Marco Polo as Italy Chief Diplomat, Machiavelli may not be taken there.

I'm going to hold up and not pick until larry rewinds the picks. Machiavelli cannot be taken for Italy and Chief Diplomat

I looked it up to be sure.
It is officially part of China now.

I am ok with it either way, I will change it if everyone thinks I should.

have we discussed yet (seriously) how we assign countries to people? is it where the person was born? the citizenship they held? what's the determinant?

You can pick birth, or if someone spent most of their life in a country, and is known for that country, then you can use that also. As long as there is some connection to that country, so someone doesn't pick FDR for Bangladesh, then I'll leave it up to the voters.

Wasn't originally planning on pick this category, but after I thought Alexander was free, this name popped into mind and it seems like a better pick here than any of the people who had been on my board:

Ghengis Khan - Millitary Leader Mongolia (Pre-20th)
Just as Alexander stretched the boundries of the West, Khan stretched the boundries of the east.

Obviously his being Mongolian doesn't really block anyone in the category, but I'm just fine with that.

BTW, the Stalin pick hasn't gotten much discussion. I'm going to be interested to see how voters react to someone like Stalin. Clearly he was a fantastic ruler/leader, of a certain style. But he's also one of history's villains, and since this is a Building Country Draft, will that matter? Or will his ruthless effectiveness matter more?
