Off Season Moves

We have five retirements, all on the defensive side of the ball.

John Cyprien is the last Jacksonville Jaguar still on our roster, and leaves holding a slew of Monarchs records:

Interceptions -28 (1st)
Tackles - 1025 (1st)
Assists - 340 (1st)
Passes Defensed - 111 (1st)
Games Started - 171 (2nd)

Chris Swift was a regular fixture on the defense and was sorely missed in 2025. He was a first round draft pick in 2015.

Tackles - 586 (2nd)
Assists - 204 (2nd)
Passes Defensed - 41 (5th)
Games Started - 97 (9th)

LCB Neal Cavanaugh and WLB Ed Powell also retired.

Defensive coordinator Richard Rodgers retired after three years with the club. He went 28-23 as a coordinator with the Monarchs.

We sack Matt Patricia after twelve years as foundation head coach of the London Monarchs. During that time he recorded 115 wins, 90 losses and four trips to the AFC Championship game between 2018 and 2023.

Our new head coach is 41 year-old Dan Connor, who has been the assistant coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for the past four seasons. Michael Bennett becomes our new defensive coordinator, and Lewis Humphries is our new assistant coach after Christopher Schumer departs for Dallas.

Matt Patricia becomes the new head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Connor era starts in free agency with two big signings: LCB Jay Guilford (64/64) from the St Louis Rams and SLB Randal Daniels (54/54) from the Arizona Cardinals.

Draft
2.28 - LT Grant Tircuit (12/42)
3.13 - RCB Mo McGarrity (23/31)
4.12 - RB Alex Richard (16/22)
5.11 - LDT Ty Glasgow (18/38)
6.10 - QB Richie Rautalahti (13/37)
7.09 - TE Griffin Osinaga (22/49)

We had another stadium plan fail at the ballot box, this time by 53.8% to 46.2%.

Ricardo Usher (SLB 50/50) is added after the draft, as is FL Dan Hussey (41/41).

LDE Grady Rowan tears his deltoid muscle in the first pre-season game and will be out for the season.

For some reason we are placed fourth in the power rankings as we head into 2026. We'll see how accurate that is in a few weeks!

Oliver Hughes has completely bombed in the pre-season and we have no depth at all at running back. This will be an extremely interesting season.

Ben Ryan torches Houston for four touchdowns as we win our season opener 38-17. Philadelphia visits the following week and we earn a 16-9 win thanks to Cameron Jasper's defensive efforts - 11 tackles, 3 sacks and a safety. It's our first 2-0 start since 2021. Ryan Tannehill proves that age shall not weary them as he leads Miami to a 31-19 win. We get back on the winner's sheet the following week with a 23-20 victory over the Bengals.

We finish a month of home games with a big 30-7 win over the Browns, who were previously on top of the AFC North. Off to the States for a month of games. The Colts beat us 19-13 to double their win total. The next week, it's an emotional reunion with Matt Patricia, but he takes sentimentality out of the contest and the Steelers win 14-13, dropping us to 4-3. We need a win to keep our heads above water in the AFC South and get it courtesy of the Ravens, 30-24.

We lead the Titans (3-4) by 1.5 games. Ben Ryan is on pace to break most of his individual season records for the Monarchs.

Unheralded running back Amir Dills rushes for 131 yards and 2 scores as we emphatically beat Tennessee 34-7 at Wembley. That win gives us quite a buffer in the division now. After a bye week, we lead the division by two games. The gap closes somewhat with a 31-28 loss to the Texans. We rectify things with a great 27-0 win against the winless Cowboys. Ben Ryan is injured during the game with the Raiders, and Alvin Gerhardt leads us to a 23-20 win. Ryan has hyperexended his elbow and is only doubtful for the next two games. We lead the AFC South by two games.

Gerhardt gets the start against the Redskins, but the defense is the issue here, giving up a 21-3 lead to lose 29-21. We now lead the division by one game. We drop a high-scoring game the following week, losing to the Colts 44-41 in extra time. Ryan returns and Dills has another good game, rushing for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tennessee are now level with us in the division, and we look set to decide our future in Week 17. We head to New York first and outlast the Giants 17-16. So our season is set to be decided in Nashville, where a loss will tip us out due to an inferior division record. True to form, we collapse in the final three minutes and lose 24-17.

We have now missed the playoffs in three successive seasons, and desperately need some help in the running game.

Off Season

A trio of former Monarchs are inducted into the hall of fame: Doug Martin (2016-20), Morris Claiborne (2019-22) and Jimmy Graham (2014-21).

Longtime offensive coordinator Gilbert Mark is named as the new coach of the Dallas Cowboys. We enlist Bears assistant coach Sedrick Poston to help run our offense.

Mark seems to come in at a perfect time; the Cowboys have the first overall pick and there is a home-run prospect at quarterback in the draft. By contrast, we don't pick until the third round.

We bring in Edward Paterson (RDE 49/49) from the Niners and mentor RB Brock Benson (45/45) from the Broncos. Also joining London in 2027 will be TE Billy Richmond (53/53) from Detroit.

In the opposite direction, Marcus Croft (TE 45/45) joins the Broncos, while Brent Massey (CB 44/44) follows Gilbert Mark to the Cowboys. QB Alvin Gerhardt (37/37) leaves to compete for the Chiefs starting job.

Our draft is a bit ordinary.

3.19 - RB Kelly Doyle (23/23)
4.18 - FB Daniel Curson (27/47)
5.20 - RCB Carlos Coryatt (20/33)
6.19 - LDE Tracy McGruddy (20/37)
7.18 - SE Howard Jamieson (17/34)

We have two holdouts. LDE Tristan Davis (36/43) recorded ten sacks next year and wants a deal totalling $24m over 4 years. Hmmmm. FL Patrick Chay (43/43) has declined over the years but his contract demands essentially amount to a reduction in pay. He's easily sorted.

In late free agency we bring in Michael Mora (LDE 38/45) and reach out to Saints RB Clay Warren (58/58) who signs with us for two years. Hopefully that's the running back position sorted! Our last free agent signing is RG Christopher Dakota (40/40) from the Rams.

Davis reported to training camp, ending his holdout.

2027 Weeks 1-4

The Colts come to Wembley for the season opener and walk away with a 27-20 win. We just can't seem to compete with our division rivals for some reason - we haven't had a winning divisional record since 2021. The Bucs sack Ryan five times en route to a 13-6 win, and the Broncos compound the misery a week later at Mile High (where else?) winning 20-17. A week later at Wembley we get our season on track with a 26-15 win against the Jets.

The Dolphins visit Wembley and leave with a loss and an injured quarterback; Ryan Tannehill leaves the game early with concussion and London wins 28-6. The Colts are vanquished a week later, with Ryan throwing for one touchdown and rushing for another in a 23-13 win. He repeats the dose the next week against the Titans, and we win 21-19. After a bye week it's off to Buffalo once again, and we squeak out a close win 13-10.

At the halfway point, London is 5-3 and on a roll. Ryan has 10 TDs, 5 picks and 2117 yards, but is doing some of his best work with his legs: 211 yards at 8.12 with 3 touchdowns. Patrick Chay is on target for his first 1000 yard season since 2022. Clay Warren has a barely-acceptable 418 yards rushing, and Cameron Jasper has 5.5 sacks already on the season.

2027 Games 9-12

The Pats beat us thoroughly 34-10, with Ben Ryan leaving the game halfway through with a hamstring strain. A week later, we take down the unbeaten Texans 24-19, Ryan finding Chay in the final minute of the game for a 40 yard TD reception! The Carolina Panthers are flying high in 2027 but we take them down a peg with a 20-14 win, Clay Warren rushing for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns. We undo our good work with a disappointing 23-21 loss to the Browns, with the winning kick coming with 3 seconds remaining. That drops us to 7-5 and just barely hanging onto a wildcard spot. Ten players in our squad have been struck down with influenza - rotten timing.

2027 Games 13-16

We go down to Atlanta 19-9 in a game that was far more important to us than to them. A triple header to finish the season. We win 17-13 against the Titans; it's our first win in Nashville since 2021. A 30-11 win against the lacklusture Saints follows, and we have one hand on a wildcard spot. We need to beat the 14-1 Texans and hope either the Colts (9-6) or Chargers (9-6) lose. The Browns (8-7) are also an outside chance of taking our spot due to tiebreakers. We fall 20-7 to the Texans, who finish the season 15-1. The Colts and Chargers both win. Season over.

Carolina beats the Bengals in the Super Bowl.

Ben Ryan and Cameron Jasper both get All-League Second Team honours.

Off Season

Defensive coordinator Michael Bennett is fired and we bring in Zack Wedeman to run the defense. Ryan Succop becomes the new assistant head coach.

We extend the contracts of four key players: QB Ben Ryan, LDT Cameron Jasper, C Joe McDonald and LG Luke Butler. We release RB Clay Warren and S Giovanni Forbes. That takes up much of our cap space, so it's off to the draft we go. For the first time in a few years we have our full compliment of picks.

1.20 - SS Kim Dangelo (34/47)
2.19 - MLB Shane Young (22/35)
3.20 - TE Terrell Richard (23/41)
4.19 - LG Randy Nichols (21/40)
5.20 - LG Malik Ervin (19/48)
6.19 - WLB Chad Conwell (15/36)
7.20 - FS Dixon Dawson (13/38)

One holdout - LCB Phil Harvey, who doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting his $9m/year requested.

We farewell one of our premier linemen who retired at the end of training camp.

RG Isaiah Schwartz (2015-2027)
Drafted 3rd Round Pick 15 2015 Draft
Key Run Blocks - 233 (1st)
Key Run Opportunities - 653 (1st)
Games Started - 188 (1st)

Our backup cornerback blows his ankle in pre-season and will miss all of 2028. TE Billy Richmond is out indefinitely with impaired vision.

2028 Weeks 1-4

The Titans beat us 37-27 at Wembley on the back of a pick six thrown in the last two minutes, just as it looked we were driving for our own victory touchdown. The next week, Detroit humiliates us 37-12 at Ford Field. Then the Jets come into Wembley and blank us on our home field 23-0. As has become customary in recent years, the Raiders come into Wembley and spare us from a fourth successive loss to the start the season. We win 24-3.

After licking our wounds during a bye week, we play the Colts who are in just as much trouble as we are. They don't have much trouble in putting us aside 23-10. Tennessee walk into Wembley and win 13-7. We are 1-5 and sinking fast. The Chiefs compound the misery when they beat us 16-10 at Arrowhead. We snap our three game losing streak when the Broncos visit Wembley. We win 20-13 but questions surface about the future of head coach Dan Connor

We lose in San Diego 17-10 and lose QB Ben Ryan to broken ribs. That seems to put the exclamation mark on our season. We sign Ronald May off the street and he leads us to a 24-14 loss to Houston. Richie Rautalahti starts against Minnesota (9-1) and we win 19-7 on the back of Cameron Jasper's fumble recovery touchdown. The next week, we fall 21-13 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I make the decision: Connor is finished. At the end of the season he will be clearing his office.

Ben Ryan returns and lifts the side to a 23-7 win over the Bears, who are struggling just as much as we are. Houston visits Wembley and chalks up a 35-20 win. The Packers win and consign us to a 17-14 loss in our home closer. We visit Indianapolis for the season ending match and win 23-16, dropping the Colts from the division lead to the wildcard.

5-11 equals our worst ever record in franchise history.

The Browns shock the world by winning the Super Bowl as a 8-8 wildcard, topping the Vikings 41-10 in the big game.

With career-high tallies in tackles, assists and sacks, LDT Cameron Jasper is a clear All-League First Team choice.

Off Season

Longtime Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains is our new head coach. He brings in his own offensive coordinator, former Chargers head coach Adam Gase, and Shawn Ramsey becomes our new assistant head coach.

Assistant coach Ryan Succop becomes the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, while former head coach Dan Connor joins the staff of the Bengals as assistant.

We are picking fifth overall in the draft.

Sensationally, we decide to make a completely new start at the quarterback position. Ben Ryan is traded to the Denver Broncos. In return, we receive five draft picks: two twos, two threes and a five.

Ryan holds every significant passing record in Monarchs history:
Drafted 1st Round 4th Pick
Quarterback Rating - 85.8 (1st)
Completion Percentage - 60.1% (1st)
Passing Yards - 47229 (1st)
Passing Touchdowns - 271 (1st)
300 Yard Passing Games - 45
Games Started - 187 (2nd)
2 x League MVP (2019, 2020)
7 x All-League Quarterback (2019, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2026, 2027)

He is also our greatest rusher!
Rushing Yards - 5443 (1st - Doug Martin has 5435)
Rushing Touchdowns - 25 (3rd)

In free agency, we sign QB Brady Murray (28/35) from the Panthers. Not much, but it's a start.

Draft

1.05 - RT Deion Randle (30/82)
2.14 - LT Melvin Brennan (23/48)
3.05 - LDE Javier Fisher (26/43)
4.05 - RB Drake Parker (26/30)
5.05 - QB Jayden Klein (15/36)
5.15 - SLB Ezekiel Kickert (14/35)
6.05 - RCB Sebastian Gibson (18/39)
7.05 - RCB Dennis McNeil (14/32)

We steer away from quarterback at the top of the picks as it's a shocking class. The first overall QB taken is rated 14/41.

The pre-season passes by uneventfully.

A new era begins on a hot Wembley day, and the Texans dish out a 24-10 loss with a scoreless second half. The next week, we go to St Louis and lose 8-16. Brady Murray is our top rusher with 72 yards - he's the quarterback! The Raiders thoughtfully give us our first season win 24-21, although we take them to extra time and rely on a punt return and and interception touchdown to put our points on the board. We lead the Bengals 16-7 late in the final quarter but ultimately go down 17-16.

With a quarter of the season gone, our top rusher is Murray with 133 yards, while we have just 287 yards as a team. That's good enough for 25th in the league. I suppose there are a lot of teams that just can't run!

Cleveland come to town and have their little way with us, Monarchs lose 3-30. It's not all doom and gloom though, as we beat the Colts 21-20 on the back of two Brady Murray rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Steelers host and beat us 31-23, and Murray again tops the rushing charts. A week later in Baltimore, Murray rushes for 95 yards and a touchdown, but passes for just 127 yards and a pick. A fantasy dream, but a reality nightmare!

At 2-6, we seem set to pick high in the draft once again in 2030.

The Titans come to London with a 5-1-1 record and leave with the loss total doubled; the Monarchs win 21-17. Two weeks later, after a bye week, we go to Houston and get spanked 34-17. Then we gift the winless Cardinals their first since of 2029 by the score of 13-3. We are bad! Not that bad that we can't go into Miami and walk away with a win though - Monarchs win 27-22 and move to 4-8.

We travel to Seattle without Cameron Jasper and go better than most could reasonably expect, losing 23-26. Murray then rushes for 107 and a score in a 20-14 win over the Colts. We drop a game against the Niners 17-26 at Wembley, then get thumped 31-7 by the Titans in our season closer at Nashville.

Brady Murray becomes the first Monarch to top the passing and rushing charts, with 3545 and 631 yards respectively. Safety Kim Dangelo tops the tackling charts with 108, while Cameron Jasper and Kerry Irwin tie as the sack king for 2029.

Atlanta, coached by former Monarchs assistant Ryan Succop, wins the Super Bowl 13-6 against the Titans.

Ben Ryan is named the MVP with 19 touchdowns and 4 picks for the Broncos.

Adam Gase leaves after one season to become the Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Kelvin Tate is our new offensive coordinator. He comes to us from Atlanta, where he has been the assistant coach for the past 12 seasons. His play calling rating is off the charts.

I submit an optimistic stadium plan to the voters of London.

We trade Drake Parker (28/38) to the Saints in exchange for a fifth round pick. Parker has not played a down for us since being drafted.

We are picking fifth overall, but once again there is no obvious standout quarterback in this class. We will probably stick with Brady Murray, or look to upgrade in free agency.

No great options at quarterback in free agency - apart from a 19 year vet in Russell Wilson - so we look elsewhere to upgrade. Michael Staley (RB 49/49) comes to us from the Panthers where he was used as a second back last year. SLB Carson Hanson (56/56) joins us from the Saints, although he was a mainstay for the Texans prior to that; and MLB Rickey de la Garza (49/49) signs from Arizona.

At the draft, we are eyeing off three players, who are taken first, second and fourth. We trade away our sixth pick to the Bills for their first this year and their first pick next year.

Draft Results
1.26 - LDE Luca Robinson (27/59)
2.05 - FS Joey Hickman (22/46)
2.29 - RB Donovan Wallace (41/50)
3.08 - LDT Will Flory (23/46)
3.29 - FS Jeffrey Kirewaldt (21/45)
4.07 - FL Jorge Wheeler (19/50)
5.06 - WLB Evan Fairbanks (17/44)
5.08 - LDT Herman Brechbill (23/44)
6.05 - LG Eric Dillon (20/47)
7.08 - RG Carter Villegas (14/44)

The stadium vote succeeds! We will move into our new home in 2035. The vote passed by just over 5000 votes - 50.6% to 49.3%.

We head into the new season with an injury to our new running back Michael Staley, who will be out for at least two weeks

The season starts with an encouraging 27-20 win in Indianapolis. Donovan Wallace chalks up 106 yards in his NFL debut, Brady Murray has three touchdowns and no picks - the first time in his career. The next week, Donnell Russell records an incredible 5.5 sacks as the Eagles beat us 37-13. Off to Wembley for four consecutive games. Oakland flog us 33-10, and we lose Bartoszewicz and Kaleb Hammontree (playing his first game for the Monarchs in six seasons) for four weeks each. Finally, the Jets beat us 28-21 to top off an overall disappointing first month.

Winless Miami come to town and it's an awful match. Dolphins total offense: 120 yards. London total offense: 123 yards. We win 17-9 with a kickoff return on the first play of the game being the only real highlight. Indianapolis double their win total by beating us 16-10. We travel to Tennessee and put up a real fight before losing 13-9. Off to Buffalo (once again!) where we go down 23-10. At least we own their first rounder next year.

At the halfway stage, there are a lot of awful teams out there: 0-8 Miami, 1-7 Arizona, 2-7 Washington, 2-7 Tennessee and then there's us.

No point sitting around and sulking, so we go into Foxboro and beat the Pats 20-13 thanks mainly to an interception return from Joey Hickman. We host the division-leading Texans and go down 17-10, with Brady Murray missing half the game. He's doubtful with a pulled groin. Unheralded Caleb Childers gets the start and the win against the Cowboys 23-9. That moves us to 4-7. The next week, Childers outpasses his opposing quarterback by over 200 yards but the Monarchs go down to the Bengals by 41-27.

Brady Murray returns against the Redskins and we have our best game of the year, winning 22-3. Staley rushes for 87 yards, Donovan 76. Murray is hurt again the next week and Caleb Childers guides us safely to a 17-0 shutout of the Titans. The Giants head into Wembley and dominate in a 25-10 win, and we finish our season the next week with a 24-12 loss to the Texans, who win the division ahead of the Colts.

The Texans can't go all the way however, as they lose to the Lions in the Super Bowl. It is Detroit's first championship in nearly eighty seasons.

No London award winners.

After going 64-32, to the playoffs six seasons in a row, and playing in the AFC Championship four times, the Monarchs have now gone seven seasons without making the playoffs, going 50-62 in that time

Off Season

Defensive tackle James Newton retires after eight years of service in London.
Tackles - 317 (8th)
Assists - 111 (7th)
Sacks - 36.5 (3rd)
Hurries - 105 (2nd)
Blocked Passes - 21 (2nd)
Games Started - 111 (9th)

Also, it was remiss of me to not note the retirement of Patrick Chay, who called time on his career before the start of the 2030 season.

Receptions - 838 (1st)
Receiving Yards - 10303 (1st)
Receiving Touchdowns - 64 (1st)
100 Yards Receiving Games - 31 (1st)
Kickoff Return Yards - 2518 (1st)
Points Scored - 414 (3rd)
Yards From Scrimmage - 10359 (1st)
All-Purpose Yards - 13390 (1st)
Games Started - 145 (4th)

We drop to 32nd in franchise value. Fantastic.

We have the 8th and 29th overall picks in the first round. Once again, there are no quarterbacks worth moving up for in the draft, so we'll concentrate on assembling more pieces.

Without doubt the best defensive free agent out there is LCB Patrick Whitney. We throw the checkbook at him and get the 82/82 rated Colt on our books for five years. We also land LDE Donnie McConnell (63/63) from Arizona, but have to do some creative accounting to get him.

At the draft there are only two players worth pursing. We see one taken by the Redskins at second overall (QB 17/50), so we trade up to fourth spot, giving away one of our firsts and our second, to take a wide receiver with four reds and a green. Later, we trade our second first round pick to the Ravens for a first and a third next year.

1.04 - WR Lukas Hancock (56/86)
3.08 - TE Benjamin Dole (27/48)
3.17 - LCB Jeremiah Money (16/43)
4.09 - P Santiago Singleton (50/69)
5.08 - RDE Shaun Joyner (17/32)
6.09 - WLB Juan Cooper (17/27)
7.08 - RCB Dwight Potter (16/25)

Pretty happy with Hancock!

We move past Brady Murray and Caleb Childers, heading into training camp with third-stringer Jayden Klein and journeyman Jim Francis competing for the starter's job with undrafted rookie Connor Carpenter the wildcard in the Monarchs quarterback race.

We lose a third round pick in 2032 for violating the salary cap. Oh well.

In the pre-season, LT Deion Randle (77/77) undergoes shoulder surgery and will miss most of the season. Drats.

The season opens with a 20-7 loss to Tennessee. Lukas Hancock hauls in 62 yards on 13 targets. Klein gets his first career start and rushes for a touchdown. The next week, Donovan Wallace sets a franchise record 194 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a close 27-21 win against Tampa Bay. We lose 20-17 in extra time to the Pats the following week. Jayden Klein then sets a franchise record of his own with five picks against the Raiders, and we lose by a single point.

Despite that, things are looking up.

A bye week, then another one point loss, this time to the Colts who leapfrog us in the division standings. The next week, Jayden Klein has his best game of his short career with 343 passing yards as we take Tennessee into extra time; Jay Guilford then swoops on an interception and wins the game for us 29-23. Donovan Wallace then goes into Fantasy Beastmode against the Chiefs, with 103 rushing yards, 109 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 27-19 win. The next week, we break level at 4-4 with a 17-12 win against the Broncos in Ben Ryan's first game back at Wembley since being traded.

We are one game out of the division lead.

We head into San Diego and deal the 1-8 Chargers a beating with a 33-6 win. We are on a four game winning streak for the first time since 2027, and it's the first time we have a winning record this late into the season since 2026. We miss a chance to move into a wildcard spot when Houston beats us 24-10 at Wembley. The next week, Lukas Hancock has his first 100 yard game, but it isn't enough as we go down 33-20 to Carolina. However, due to other results in the division we still trail by just one game. We make the task just that little bit harder for ourselves though when Cleveland comes back to beat us 23-16.

At 5-7, we're still in it, but we'll need a bit of luck.

Luck deserts us completely as we go down 9-7 to the Falcons. Hancock has his third successive 100 yard game and is surely a strong contender for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Houston loses and we trail by two games - we play the Texans next. Our season ends with a loss in overtime by 23-26, despite 134 yards from Donovan Wallace. We have no luck against the Saints, going down 38-24 with four picks (and two pick sixes). Hancock picks up another 136 yards though - the kid can play. Jayden Klein is out indefinitely from here on with arthritis - just our luck, of course. The season ends with a 31-14 win against the Colts, which breaks a six game losing streak. Undrafted rookie Connor Carpenter gets the start and throws for 271 yards, 175 of them going to Donovan Wallace.

Buffalo wins the Super Bowl against the Vikings.

Hancock is not named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. That goes to Devin Altman of the Vikings, with his 1461 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hancock by comparison was fourth in the league with 1243 yards and 4 touchdowns. That's the difference I guess by playing on a winning team.

Off Season (Part 1)

Former assistant coach Christopher Schumer is now the new head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.

I consider firing Dowell Loggains but there aren't really many good prospects out there. I decide against extending his contract beyond 2032 though, virtually ensuring we will have a new coach in 2033 come what may (we are 32nd overall in the staff draft). Shawn Ramsey leaves the club to be assistant head coach at Green Bay, and we pick up Chris Johnson to replace him and work with the secondary.

RB Michael Staley retired. He was on our roster for two seasons but was increasingly surplus to needs with Donovan Wallace becoming more and more prominent in our offense.

We have the 5th, 16th and 36th picks in the draft. There is a quarterback that is rated second overall in the prospects list but our scouts think he is severely overrated. There is only one worthy quarterback in the free agent market, Lions QB Declan Pool (2030 Super Bowl MVP) but he's asking far, far too much.

We decide to go into the draft and trade up if our quarterback falls past pick one, otherwise we use one of our first rounders to convert it into a second first rounder next year. St Louis takes our boy first overall, and he comes out rated 28/76. We take an offensive lineman with four reds at fifth overall, and trade our sixteenth overall pick to the Chargers for their first, third and fifth picks in 2033.

Draft

1.05 - LT Lucas Coutant (53/80)
2.04 - RB Tyrus Panahi (37/53)
4.06 - WLB Jimmie Serrano (22/42)
5.05 - FL Jesse Lee (15/39)
5.19 - MLB Edgar Miller (17/29)
6.04 - LG Jayden Andrews (18/47)
7.07 - LDT James Russell (10/41)

We signed a quarterback in late free agency - Rob Stevens from the Redskins. I'm not wild about him, given his 36/36 rating, but it's the best we can do given Jayden Klein's current battle with arthritis. We add Jets split end Camden Adderley (39/39) as a back-up as well as mentor linebacker Zayden Lankford from Carolina (34/34).

A big loss to Houston to open the season 37-17. Ouch. A week later, we surrender a 14-3 lead and lose to Detroit thanks to a pick six, going down 18-14. The Chargers beat us 24-21 a week later and it's not hard to see that we really need an upgrade at quarterback - we would have won these kind of matches with someone of Ben Ryan's ilk behind center. Jayden Klein is cleared to return the following week but Rob Stevens remains the starter as we go down to the Bengals 17-9.

It is the first 0-4 start in franchise history.

That, if I then had wak'd after long sleep, will make me sleep again; and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open and show riches ready to drop upon me, that, when I wak'd, I cried to dream again.

The Browns beat us 38-21 in a lopsided clash. We can only run the ball nine times in the whole match, and Stevens is yanked after throwing three picks. He remains in the starter's job the following week as we finally win 16-10 against the Colts. We have no answers the next week as the Steelers run right over us 34-23, with Pittsburgh RB Elijah Washington getting 254 yards with his feet and a further 80 through receptions, as well as four touchdowns total in one of the most prolific individual performances I can recall. We upset the Ravens 38-23 the following week, with Klein getting the start in lieu of the injured Stevens.

Tennessee comes for a visit and we win 20-7. We continue the winning feeling the next week against the Texans, with Jesse Lee scoring the game winning touchdown in the final three seconds! We take on unbeaten Minnesota in their house and run them right to the final seconds of the game but ultimately lose 10-9. We then fall on the road to the Dolphins 21-13.

At 4-8, we are only two wins behind Tennessee but we need a LOT of help. Helping ourselves by winning wouldn't be a bad start.

We whip Chicago 41-13 at Wembley, leading 31-3 at the break and taking our foot off the accelerator in the second half. We are now only one win behind the Titans. Indianapolis cross the Atlantic with a 3-10 record and we easily account for them 34-3. Suddenly, incredibly, we are first in our division. London gives up a kickoff return touchdown to start the game at Lambeau Field but the Packers are ultimately vanquished, with the winning field goal coming from 35 yards in the dying seconds. London are 7-8! However, so are the Titans, and we have to travel to their house to settle the AFC South division. Expectation would turn to heartbreak for the Monarchs, with the Titans easily winning 40-17 to end our season and seize the division crown for themselves.

Carolina edges Cincinnati in a low-scoring Super Bowl 9-7.

No official awards, although rookie tackle Lucas "Coal Train" Coutant is named the League's Strongest Player.

Isles of Wonder - The London Monarchs (FOF7)

Off Season

Longtime offensive guard Luke Butler announced his retirement after twelve seasons in the NFL, all for London.

Drafted - 2nd Round 2021, pick 30
Key Run Blocks - 303 (1st)
Key Run Opportunities - 828 (1st)
Pancake Blocks - 51 (1st)
Games Started - 164 (4th)

At the end of his contract Dowell Loggains leaves London to become the head coach at Indianapolis. Monarchs-Colts derbies just took on a whole new feeling.

When it's time for us to pick, there is one clear candidate, who is off the charts in terms of young talent and scouting ability. He also has previous experience as a head coach at Tampa Bay and Washington. Our new head man is Niko Koutouvides.

We also have a new assistant head coach: hall of fame tight end and original Monarch Jimmy Graham. The 47 year-old is the first former Monarchs player to join the coaching staff.

We give LT Deion Randle the franchise tag, and have the fourth and fourteenth pick in the draft.

Our only pre-draft free agent signing is LG Mario Krelovich (49/49) from Carolina. We also re-sign Jayden Klein on a low base contract.

In the draft we take a can't-miss wide receiver and then watch three quarterbacks fly off the board. We contact Oakland about a trade and send our remaining first rounder off for a future first, third and fifth rounder. You know the game by now: wash, rinse and repeat. We end up taking a quarterback with our second round pick, with four blues. He can fight it out with Stevens and Klein this year, and if he messes up there's always next year's draft.

And......he's a bust.

1.04 - SE Levi Raymond (45/81)
2.15 - QB Kirk Marcum (14/24)
3.02 - FB Kendall Roberson (38/59)
3.14 - MLB Roman White (18/38)
4.15 - LCB Christian Fenly (19/41)
5.04 - K Xander Echevarria (46/82)
5.14 - RDE Bennett Brazinski (23/36)
6.15 - RDE Rusty Sauk (12/43)
7.14 - LCB Everett Cole (20/30)

No major dramas though training camp, although Donovan Wallace seems to be in decline, having dropped from 59/59 at the 2032 training camp to 45/45 during this season's pre-season.
