But you're going by your eye test, which told you that Georgia would destroy Notre Dame. Which, as you saw last night, was not the case at all. You can try to wave it away with "they weren't motivated," but that is beyond lame. What team that has any pride would just not bother to show up in a do-or-die game? Kirby Smart sure was reacting like he wanted to win pretty badly. He protested every little thing he could last night.

THESE are what needs to go. If you are going to have a playoff, you don't need conference championship games unless they are part of the playoff, or part of what determines who gets into the playoff. Right now they are neither.

I think a 14 team playoff (which is coming no matter if we want it or not, ESPN is ALL IN on it) where the winner of the two major conference championship games get a bye and the losers aren't punished in seeding is something that could become a sort of compromise.

I still feel like overall that's too valuable a week to have on the schedule to not really determine anything other than seeding though. I'd rather see an extra conference game that week. I get why conferences and networks might feel otherwise though.

edit: I mean, this year would you have preferred to have been Ohio St, with a bye in the conf championship week and an 8 seed (or for that matter, Indiana and the 10), Penn State, with no bye and a 6 seed, or Oregon with the bye in the first playoff week? It might make sense if ONLY the conf game loser makes it in, but not if the #3 and #4 do as well.

I'd like to see an extended Conference Championship week. Give an extra bye week, dump a gimme non-conference game, all Conferences play 9 games in Conference, and then the 12th game would be 1 vs 2 for the Championship, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, etc.

That’s such a good idea that it will never happen.

What player with any pride would quit on their team when there was a game to play? But we see opt-outs by the hundreds now. Character is clearly hard to find in today's athlete, why would pride be any different?

If you're looking for logic amongst today's crop of players then you're going to be looking for a long time.

For some mystifying reason I get that people outside the business would like to turn college football into just another run of the mill pro league but that doesn't mean that conferences and programs have the same desire when it isn't to their benefit.

The top 4 conference champs automatically getting the top 4 seeds is a flaw. Rank the top 12 teams (or 14 or 16 or 8), then set up the bracket with 1 v 12, 2 v 11, 3 v 10, etc, and reseed after each round. All games played at home of higher seed, except for the championship game. That gets played at the site of one of the top 3 or 4 bowl games on a rotating basis.

Away teams should get X% of tickets for each game. Maybe 30%? So home team has an advantage, but not as big as we saw in the first round.

Yeah, I don't get the hate. Your options are the best teams in college football playing each other over the course of a month or getting into arguments over who had the prettiest dress and deserves to be in the ball.

I'll take the best teams playing each other. Football is football.

I would argue that the push to professionalize college sports by the conference and schools themselves under the guise of amateurism has been a great benefit to the conferences and schools. It seems pretty clear to me that as far as the folks that run college football is concerned, the sooner they can become the mini NFL without having to share the spoils with the NFL, the better for them.

This is crazy.

The #8 QB, who was committed to Cal and then switched to Oregon and signed a few weeks ago, is expected to enter the transfer portal. He had moved to Eugene and traveled with the team to the Rose Bowl.

First time I've heard of a guy transferring before his first semester.

His next program will be his 5th "commitment" since being the #31 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.

He also attendended three high schools, playing for two.

NDSU in a fight for the National Championship. We're the underdogs, but you'd never know it listening to the ESPN announcers. Montana State is undefeated, and the announcers have spent at least 70% of the time talking about them. It's annoying.

So, wait ... did Montana State actually manage to do the dumbest thing possible on (what turned out to be ) the final play?

So you call the 11-man punt block. And I see why you do that. Then as soon as the ball is kicked and the coach realizes he has no one back there . . . "Oh shit."

I'm Catholic, so rooting for Notre Dame is a pretty easy way to rack up some heaven points on my ledger.

Just so I can maybe try it also ... on a scale of 1-100 where 1 is Heaven and 100 is Purgatory, how many sin/bad points are taken off by rooting for ND?

Gonna go out on a limb here and say I don't think God is particularly invested in who wins a college football game.

Gonna disagree (sorta). I think God is extremely interested in everything about each of us but, like I think you mean, he isn't rooting for one team to win like a fan would be.

Not so fast my friends. It seems Carson Beck has now put his name in the portal. I heard someone say this morning that he had been getting a 3rd round or later grade, and he probably decided he could make more money on the open market in the portal than he could holding a clip board in the NFL.

He didn't look great this year but this draft is so weak at QB that I still think he'd find a way to sneak into the first round. Way too many teams need QBs.

You would think, but that wasn't the feed back he got. I think that along with his recovering from surgery and not being able to work out for teams made it smarter for him to return for another year.

A Penn State - Texas final would mean the championship game would be between teams who didn't beat any of the other top 4 teams in in their own conference with a combined 4 losses against those teams.

Three of the four teams remaining each lost their two biggest regular season games, and the other lost to a MAC team.
