Good for him, going out healthy and on his own terms, just surprising.

Here's his statement on why he's retiring.

I'm just glad my beloved Cardinals aren't being screwed by his retirement and already have a replacement ready.

Good for him.
Seems to have a great grasp on it, a contentment and lacking the bitterness that has embodied the similar decisions of Sanders and Brown.

If the rumors circulating twitter right now are true, it will hopefully be announced shortly that Michael Bennett will be signing a new 4 year, $34 million ($16 guaranteed) deal to stay in Seattle. Also guessing that likely means that they'll cut Clemons and try to bring him back at a cheaper number or look to add a value FA (maybe Jared Allen) on a 1-2 year deal.

Will be interesting to see what the cap hits are per year and if it's really a 4 year deal or more likely a 3 year deal then a cut situation, but I'm happy to have him back. Saw such a huge difference in the D this past season with a more reliable pass rush and he was a big part of that.

That seems like a pretty low price for him based on what the expected interest would be around the league, especially with Hardy off the table.

My guess is that Seattle originally offered 8 per before the open discussion period and went to 8.5 after his agent got other offers. By all accounts he really enjoyed being in Seattle and the atmosphere of the team. Combine that with no state tax and I wouldn't be surprised if he turned down a 9 to 9.5 per type deal elsewhere (sounds like Chicago was the other primary suitor).

Sad Bears didn't get him, but on the same token, they'da had to overpay to pull it off, and the Bears have so many holes to fill.

Wow, apparently make that 4 years for 28.5 million. Looks like it should be at least a 2 year/$16 million deal with the final 2 years each being of the variety that could easily lead to a cut depending on the situation at the time.

As a Seahawks fan, definitely couldn't have expected a contract this friendly and with the cap increase, I'd be amazed if Thomas and Sherman both don't get extended. In John Schneider we trust.

Ugh. Makes that 5 years, $42.5 million with $20 million guaranteed the Vikings gave Everson Griffen even better. :/

Great locker room move.

Steve Smith was a great player but a pretty crappy human being imho.

Him leaving makes it easier for me to pull for the home town team.

Revis is owed 16m in the next 4 years, right? Dare I say that's reasonable especially with how the cap is moving.

$16M per year for the next 5 years....he's currently the 4th highest paid player in the NFL.

I'm sure he'll get paid around $10M a year this season. As long as the Pats have the money, I'm sure they will be in the running.

I dunno if he limped thru last season or something but isn't he basically worth being paid the most as far as defensive guys go? Basically if you can Island one guy then piece together everyone else your defense looks really good.

Problem is it looked like he dropped off real bad last year (perhaps due to injury, perhaps not, who knows if he'll recover) so it's a big risk to pay him what his tremendous ego will no doubt demand that he be paid.

This would be the time for the Bucs to put a true value on a draft pick. Offer to cap out and pay 15m to Revis for a first rounder. Something like that. I watched the Bucs a few times but mainly just the offense. I also don't see why they're so quickly looking to move on from Glennon. He's decent... You could do a ton worse.

Mike Glennon just needs to survive the 1st round of this draft and he'll be our starter, I suspect. But we do have a brand new OC, so who knows what his opinion (Jeff Tedford) is of Glennon.

It's pay info, so I don't have a link and can't verify it on my own, but I did read that Revis ranked as the #1 CB in Pro Football Focus' grading system last year.

If I'm the Raiders, I trade a low pick for Revis and try to get him to play out his contract. They have an insane amount of cap space and can't really attract talent there anyway. It could have an enormous impact on their defense and help get other players to play with him. Plus, locking him up for $16MM annually on this deal actually protects them from themselves, avoiding them overpaying for worse talent and having them locked into guaranteed contracts.

Revis is fine. Was a poor fit for the system. If this gets to the free market no way he ends up with Patriots in my opinion, the market for him will be robust.

I don't know - the FA market for CBs is huge this year, could drop his value.

Cards continue to find parts for their offensive line-signing Jared Veldheer from the Raiders-Carson Palmer reportedly pushing for him. Losing Dansby hurts-not sure if they made him an offer or not-but Dansby should have learned a lesson when he left the Cards the first time for big money and it didn't work out. Can't imagine it working out well in the disaster that is Cleveland.

Cards also lose WR Andre Roberts to the Redskins no big loss there really
