Saturday, May 1st, 2162: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Lambert Marleau put together a solid offensive month for Cleveland and was crowned April's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .432 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored.


Homer Wins RL's Best Bat Trophy
Saturday, May 1st, 2162: When Harvey Homer stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The young Ann Arbor center fielder posted a .318 batting average with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Homer also worked pitchers for 4 walks to post a .361 on-base percentage.

Martel Wins CL Top Pitcher Honors
Saturday, May 1st, 2162: The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Continental League winner is Halifax hurler, Lucien Martel. For his standout performances in April he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, Martel excelled with a 0.70 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 38.1 innings he struck out 32 and gave up 20 hits and 8 walks.


González Is RL's Best Pitcher in April
Saturday, May 1st, 2162: Félix González's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 33-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 33 in 40.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.66 and allowed opponents to hit .257 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2162: Luis Moreno's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Napa Valley third baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .298 with 5 doubles, no triples and 8 home runs. Moreno also scored 16 times and drove in 25 runs.


Hammersmith Rookie Star Sparkles
Saturday, May 1st, 2162: This month Manuel Torres bashed, belted and battered just about every Republic League pitcher in his path as he put up some substantial numbers to win the Rookie of the Week honors.

Day in and day out throughout April, the Hammersmith first baseman punished opposing teams with base hits, finishing with a .315 average. Torres went 29-92 in 24 games with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 14 runs scored.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2162: Carlos Torres hit the baseball with consistency all month long and was voted the Continental League's Batter of the Month for May.

The Baltimore catcher batted .432 and posted 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also drew 8 walks for a .481 OBP.

Hitting .355 to date, Torres has 11 home runs and 38 RBIs. He has played in 46 games.


Rodríguez of Colorado RL Batter of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2162: Colorado left fielder Tomás Rodríguez put the wraps on a fine May by capturing the Republic League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .415 batting average and .492 on-base percentage last month while racking up 4 home runs, 13 RBIs, 22 runs scored and 14 walks.

This year Rodríguez is hitting .369, produced 23 RBIs and 6 home runs, scored 32 times and gotten on base at a .438 rate.

Castillo Best CL Starter
Tuesday, June 1st, 2162: Veteran Héctor Castillo put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Halifax Winter Wolves, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Castillo racked up a 5-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.08 ERA over 39 innings and striking out 19.

In 11 starts this season, Castillo has picked up 8 wins while suffering 1 loss. He has pitched 75 innings, allowed 72 hits, struck out 33 and posted a 2.64 ERA.


May's Best Hurler in RL Is Godsell
Tuesday, June 1st, 2162: Any time a rookie makes a splash on the scene, it's got to be great for his career potential. Just ask Herman Godsell, who put together a stellar month out of the pen. The Hartford Harpooners closer, 23, kept the opposition off balance all month as he held them to a .130 average and walked away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

Godsell posted a 3-1 mark and a 0.63 ERA in 14 relief appearances. In 14.1 innings, he had 8 saves, 9 strikeouts, and 3 walks.

This year his season stats show Godsell has 13 saves in 25 relief appearances with a 6-1 mark and 0.70 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2162: Luis Moreno is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Napa Valley hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .307 average with 31 hits, 9 home runs and 20 RBIs.

In 51 games this season Moreno has batted at a .303 pace with 59 hits and 17 home runs.


Torres Picked May's Best Newcomer
Tuesday, June 1st, 2162: It was an exceptional month, especially for rookie Manuel Torres. The first baseman for the Hammersmith Hooligans performed like a veteran and was named the best newcomer in the Republic League.

He captured the honor by hitting .359 in 22 games with 33 hits, 6 home runs and 20 RBIs.

Torres's current batting average stands at .337 and he has chalked up 10 home runs and 32 RBIs.

Carlos Manuel Winner in June
Thursday, July 1st, 2162: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Carlos Manuel. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Noblesville's right fielder pinned down the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .349 in June collecting 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

So far this season Manuel has put up a .317 batting average with 82 hits, 13 home runs and 42 RBIs.


Daniels Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Thursday, July 1st, 2162: Harvey Daniels battered Republic League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Daniels told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Daniels hit .376 with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

Thus far this year Daniels has hit .316 with 17 home runs and 72 RBIs.

Thompson Collects CL Pitching Award
Thursday, July 1st, 2162: Josh Thompson has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Gothams bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 10 strikeouts in 13.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .149 average and posting a 0.68 ERA and a 2-0 record.

Season-to-date, Thompson has rung up 9 saves in 30 relief appearances. He has 42 strikeouts and 8 walks in 41.2 innings while registering a 1.51 ERA and a 2-3 won-lost record.


Moore Wins Best RL Pitcher
Thursday, July 1st, 2162: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Tanner Moore still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 32-year-old starter for Los Angeles was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 40 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 0.82 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.

In 16 starts this season Moore has gathered 10 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 115.1 innings, allowed 99 hits, struck out 107 and has a 2.03 ERA.

CL Names Newcomer of the Month
Thursday, July 1st, 2162: Curt Woods was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old third baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Woods batted .318 for Cleveland, slapping 28 hits in 88 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 15 runs and scored 18 times.

This season Woods is swinging the bat at a .308 rate with 81 hits in 263 at-bats. To date he has hit 17 home runs, scored 48 runs and driven in 52.


Torres Wins June's Rookie Award
Thursday, July 1st, 2162: Swinging a hot stick in June, Manuel Torres picked up the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award today.

The 26-year-old first baseman for Hammersmith lashed 32 hits as he put together a .368 average with 5 home runs. He also drove in 12 runs, scored 20 times and drew 10 walks on his way to a .433 OBP.

This season Torres is batting .347 with 44 RBIs, 59 runs scored and 15 home runs.

Sunday, August 1st, 2162: The most recent Continental League Batter of the Month trophy was awarded to left fielder Markus Welsh of the Napa Valley Winemakers.

Sunday, August 1st, 2162: Ramón Gonzáles of the Apex Assassins was on top of his game the entire month of July, capping it off with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors.

He was outstanding in 5 starts with 4 wins and 1 loss, 29.2 IP, 26 strikeouts and a fine 2.43 ERA.

On the year Gonzáles has compiled a 11-3 mark with a 2.54 ERA.


RL Selects Godsell July's Best Pitcher
Sunday, August 1st, 2162: In July, the elite pitcher in the Republic League was Herman Godsell, thanks to some great numbers coming out of the bullpen.

The Hartford relief specialist posted a 2-0 mark and an ERA of 0.00 in 13 innings with 12 strikeouts and 6 saves in 6 save opportunities.

This season Godsell has nailed down 25 saves. In 49 innings he has fanned 39 batters and walked 15. His record is 8-3 with a 1.65 ERA and the opposition is batting .226 against him.

Sunday, August 1st, 2162: Luis Moreno earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Napa Valley third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Moreno hit .349 with 8 home runs, 14 RBIs and 24 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Moreno is batting .294 with 110 hits, 28 home runs, 73 RBIs, 25 walks, .353 OBP and has scored 70 runs.


July's Best RL Rookie Named
Sunday, August 1st, 2162: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Andrés Vega just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July.

Ramos Claims CL Batter of the Month Award
Wednesday, September 1st, 2162: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Jesús Ramos helped his contract negotiations by nabbing August's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Baltimore first baseman put together a .378 batting average with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Ramos continues at this brisk pace.

Ramos is hitting .311 this season with 33 home runs, 87 RBIs and 84 runs scored. He has 137 hits in 441 at-bats.


Colorado's Santiago RL #1 Batter in August
Wednesday, September 1st, 2162: On the heels of a very productive August, David Santiago received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested catcher hit .295 for the Colorado Rancheros and racked up 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Presently Santiago is batting .286 with 28 home runs and 86 RBIs. He has played in 122 games and scored 68 times.

CL Picks August's Top Pitcher
Wednesday, September 1st, 2162: 31-year-olds don't often go 5-0 in and haul away the the best pitcher award, but Santiago Ramos did all that. Now, he's the toast of the Continental League. Today he was crowned the Pitcher of the Month for August.

In 5 starts he posted a 1.85 ERA and struck out 20 batters in 39 innings.

His record for the year is 9-7 in 20 starts and Ramos has a 3.29 ERA.


August's Top Starter is Gibson
Wednesday, September 1st, 2162: The Colorado Rancheros owe Bennie Gibson a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in August, Gibson tore up the opposition with a fine 4-0 mark on his way to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

"When you're pitching this well," analyzed Gibson, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."

It was Gibson who did the banging in August as he tossed up 14 strikeouts in 39.2 innings, holding opponents to a .250 average and posting a 2.27 ERA.

To date this season, Gibson has a record of 7 wins and 12 losses and a 5.61 ERA. He has appeared in 25 games and struck out 48 in 134.2 innings.

Top Rookie of the Month Named by CL
Wednesday, September 1st, 2162: Youngster Luis Moreno emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Napa Valley deserved the honor, batting .314 with 8 home runs and 20 RBI. Is the month of August a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Moreno enjoy the limelight.

Thus far this year Moreno is hitting .299 with 36 home runs, 93 RBIs and 86 runs scored.

CL's Best Batter Announced
Friday, October 1st, 2162: When guys like Halifax's Bill McCromley win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive September, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 29 hits in 95 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .305 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 35 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

So far this year McCromley is hitting .295 with 35 home runs.


Torrid September Gets Ray RL #1 Batter Trophy
Friday, October 1st, 2162: It was a good month for Hammersmith Hooligans left fielder Craig Ray, September's Republic League Batter of the Month.

Ray starred by hitting .373 with a .443 on-base percentage. He totaled 38 hits in 102 at-bats, 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

Ray is hitting .304 this year with 36 home runs, 121 RBIs and 101 runs scored. He has 193 hits in 634 at-bats, 54 walks and a .362 on-base percentage. Ray has played in 153 games.

Halifax Starter Wins September's Pitcher Award
Friday, October 1st, 2162: Whether Lucien Martel stays in Halifax beyond this season remains to be seen, but while he's here he's making the most of it. In September the 27-year-old certainly pulled out all the stops by winning the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

He put up some fancy numbers with a 4-1 record and and an ERA of 1.35. In 33.1 innings he struck out 20, surrendered 28 hits, 5 walks and proved to be a solid performer in 4 starts last month.

On the season Martel has 14 wins and 10 losses and a 2.44 ERA.


Oprel Gets September's Top Pitcher Trophy
Friday, October 1st, 2162: It was a very good month for Reginald Oprel in September. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Colorado Rancheros outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Oprel ran up a 4-2 record in his 6 starts during the month. In 49.2 innings he fanned 34 and recorded a 1.81 ERA.

This season Oprel has compiled a 20-7 mark with a 2.57 ERA in 31 starts.

Cleveland Second Baseman September's Top Rookie
Friday, October 1st, 2162: The Continental League Rookie of the Month has been picked for September and the honor went to the Cleveland Cyclones hitting machine, Matthis Côté.

During the last month he compiled a .411 batting average with 23 hits and 2 home runs, along with 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Thus far this season in 132 games Côté is batting .327 with 11 home runs, 63 RBIs and 53 runs scored. He has 99 hits in 303 at-bats.


RL Names Rookie of the Month
Friday, October 1st, 2162: The Republic League Rookie of the Month Award for September goes to Manuel Torres, the first baseman for Hammersmith. He took the league by storm, hitting .310 and looks like he might just be a legitimate contender for the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

Torres tagged 26 hits in 84 at-bats, including 5 home runs, produced 14 RBIs and scored 11 times.
