Toms River East (6-1) What's funny about this power poll is, I always wondered how those HS power polls would take teams that were undefeated and still manage to rank them lower than 2-loss teams - like in this case, Dunellen - but it's cool that the parity that usually shows up in HS football, has shown up almost perfectly in TCY.

Schools you want me to mention...
I know some folks read this and are wondering about particular schools - if not, humour me - anyway...if you want me to cover a particular school during my reports or whatever, I can do that.
I think it'd make things more interesting, but you need to let me know. Thanks. ~dc

STATE SEMI-FINALS/2012: QUEEN OF PEACE 31, MOORESTOWN 7
The Golden Griffins head to their 4th straight title game next week with a win over Moorestown 31-7, in the battle of the only two undefeated teams in the state.
QB Curtis Winters, probable for the game with a bruised sternum, was solid throwing for 2 TDs and 205 yards in the win. Dixon Lenhardt ran for 142 yards and 2 TDs, as well. The win sets up a rematch from Week 2, when Queen of Peace defeated Newark East Side 27-24. "We'll get ourselves together and get ready for the game," said Coach Dark Cloud. The two teams have a colorful history of late, with a field goal separting the teams in another decisive playoff game - last year's state semifinals, which the Golden Griffins won 24-21, en route to their 3rd straight title. 2014 OFF-SEASON: WILL DARK CLOUD LEAVE QUEEN OF PEACE?
With a winning percentage that's 6th highest among active coaches and a record of 102-29 in 10 seasons of coaching, Queen of Peace Head Coach Dark Cloud is at a crossroads.
The Plainfield native reportedly has an offer from the school to become their next head coach. And my, what an attractive offer it is. Former Plainfield Head Coach Wade Stanton was 109-30 during his 10 seasons at the school, losing two crushing state championship finals to Queen of Peace in 2010, falling 41-17 and again in 2011, in a nail-baiting 32-31 victory for the Golden Griffs. Now, Dark Cloud has a chance to "make things right in the universe," as one reporter put it, by going back to his alma mater and leading them back to the playoffs after missing out each of the past two seasons, ending their streak of 9 straight post-seasons. It'll be difficult to leave Queen of Peace. He's taken a school that couldn't get past the Quarterfinals in 3 playoff appearances from 2005-07, to 5 State Football Final Fours and 4 straight state titles. "He's the peak of success," said Pennsauken H.S. Head Coach Marc Schreiber, who has taken his club to the state playoffs 6 times in a decade. "I mean, most of the guys want to just win one title. He just motivates his clubs and wants to win every year. Coming to [Queen of Peace] was the perfect fit for him," he said. The College Athletics Rating service has rated 30 Queen of Peace players as "Excellent" in their annual survey of state players with potential to play at the highest levels in college. Plainfield has only half that, which makes some wonder that it would be hard for Dark Cloud to leave such a talented club, that many say is poised to take another state title next season. "He might need to do this, to prove to himself that he's part of the formula. Who knows if it's just the kids and he's sitting back and watching them break heads out there," said 6-time State Head Coach of the Year Bernard Paup of Dunellen. "I know for me, it was always an issue of whether it was me having any impact at all." Paup's teams have won just one state title in 10 playoff appearances. While there is no indication of whether he'll stay or go, Dark Cloud has no doubt left his mark on the sport's coaching ranks. But if he can be the first coach to win state titles at two different schools, especially in the uber competitive North II, Group II Section, would cement his legacy as one of the best ever. Meanwhile, in Private Group B, Queen of Peace has won 5 straight state sectional titles, going undefeated in 2009, 2012 and 2013. "There is no doubt that's a night and day different between those two sections," said an athletic director who declined to be named. A decision is expected in the next week.

DARK CLOUD DECIDES TO "FINISH WHAT WE STARTED"
Queen Of Peace HS Head Coach Dark Cloud, rumored to be heading north to his alma mater, Plainfield HS, has decided to stay put. Staying that he needed to "finish what he started," he stood with several of his team captains at the dais with him and former players in the audience.
"Coach wants to be here, but we told him we understood. I mean, you don't always get a chance to go home," said Senior QB Ken Covington. DC turned down a deal with the school, after weighing out his options. Some in the field, have said they're not too surprised. "Look at that team he's got there at [Queen of Peace]. I mean, Plainfield's not bad, but that's a rebuilding job compared to what he's got now. And the thing is, he built it from scratch essentially. Seems kinda silly that he'd give that up to start over - especially at a public school," said one source close to the coaching ranks in New Jersey. Despite Plainfield's relatively weak schedule in 2014 - only three of their opponents are rated in the Top 50 statewide - some pundits think DC ultimately chose his head, rather than his heart. "Whose to say he's not holding out for a better opportunity? I mean, that Dunellen job is highly coveted whenever Paup goes away. But then, whose to say staying at Queen of Peace is horrible? 5 straight Final Four appearances and you can recruit whoever you want? Seems good to me," said Bernie Francis, who reports for a local radio station in Manalapan.

WEEK 3: QUEEN OF PEACE V. NEWARK EAST SIDE
NEWARK - Heading into the game against state rivals Newark East Side and Queen of Peace, who have combined to claim the last seven state title, Queen of Peace Coach Dark Cloud told his underdog squad that there was only one team that they had a losing record against in the past decade. And that they would seem them on the field.
It took overtime to settle it, but after the dust cleared, the Golden Griffins gave East Side all it could handle, for a 24-17 win yesterday. Despite outgaining them by 106 total yards, East Side couldn't stop the onslaught of the Golden Griffs in the 4th quarter. Down 17-3 going into the 4th quarter, QB Ken Covington got the Golden Griffs within a touchdown, with a 25 yard pass to Colin McGregor, his only catch of the game. The team was ignited by Jessie Schwarzhaupt's 44-yard interception return, to tie it up with 13 minutes left in the game. Covington was deadly accurate, throwing for 256 yards, completing 21 of 28 passes. In the overtime session, Queen of Peace capitalized on good field position to carry the drive to the East Side red zone, scoring a 6 yard TD pass to R.J. Peterson. The defense held up their end of the bargain, giving the Golden Griffs a big win over the defending state champions, the #2 team in the state and their biggest rival. "No one really believed we'd win this game or that it would be close at all. We fed into that for 3 quarters, but these men showed their character and came out on top in the end. We believe in ourselves, make no mistake." said Head Coach Dark Cloud about his team's decisive victory in their first action of the season. East Side falls to 1-1 and faces another challenge next week in #3 Dunellen.

WEEK 4/2014: TEANECK @ #2 QUEEN OF PEACE
Teaneck was outrushed 240-37, en route to a 44-3 drubbing at the hands of the Queen of Peace Golden Griffs.
The Golden Griffins offense was powered on the legs of RB Kent Madera who ran for 110 yards and 3 TDs on 24 carries. Backup QB Tommie Grabowski got some PT, splitting time with QB Ken Covington. Punt Returner Marvin Lewis had 154 yards and a punt return for a TD in the win. Next week, Queen of Peace heads to Delbarton.

I picked this dynasty up again after a while.
I think that old file got corrupted, so rather than resetting the whole thing, I just started over. I spent three years at Plainfield, with our best season coming in my first year (2004) when we went 12-3, losing in the state semi-finals. I then spent three years at Livingston, went went 45-2 over three years and won three straight state titles. I left there and spent 1 season at Palisades Park and won a state title there and then four years at East Side (Newark), winning three more state titles. Last year (2014) was my last season there, we went 11-2 and lost in the state quarterfinals to Scotch Plains-Fanwood. So after the post-season, I left and decided to go somewhere good - but that needed to reach the next level. I chose Hamilton North. They're a Central Jersey Group III school, we're 41-26 since 2009, but the team has NEVER been to the state playoffs. 10 out of the past 11 years, Wall Township has won the Sectional State Title (2008 was the lone exception year when West Windsor-Plainsboro won, but we were 4-7 that year) So we're gonna see if we can't turn this club into a title contender.

2015 NOTTINGHAM (HAMILTON NORTH) NORTHSTARS SCHEDULE
Apparently, I did some research and all three of Hamilton, NJ high schools (it's the 8th largest city in the state) have changed their names, except for Hamilton West which kept its name. Hamilton North is now Nottingham and Hamilton East is now Steinart. It doesn't matter..but when I refer to us as Nottingham, that's why.
PRE-SEASON RANK: 27th Code:
