Michael Ball
resumes full training following a month off. He is very unfit though and he'll need both training and match practice before he's ready to be back in the first team squad.

We're still 8th after the Sunday games have been played.

January 15, 2007
Paul Dickov
strained his groin and even though the initial prognosis is 2 weeks off, this is stretched to 3 weeks when he gets to his first physiotherapy session.

Martin Rowlands also shows up injured this morning. He's got a strained neck and will miss 5 days.

January 16, 2007
Ahhh these two newsline headers again...

"Wilhemsson rejects Crystal Palace offer"
"Wilhemsson accepts Q.P.R. offer"

He says he's really enthusiastic about the prospect of playing for such a well supported club. I think the 27yo winger will bring some explosiveness to our right wing, even though he's capable of playing anywhere on the attacking side of our midfield. He will join us on July 1st and you can see his profile below.

Rotherham offer to loan Jonathan Burton. I'm thinking that at 17, he now needs to add some first team experience to his baggage. I add the clause so I could recall him if need be and send the counteroffer.

January 19, 2007
Bournemouth now want to loan Burton. I again add the recall clause and send the couteroffer. I see that Burton is saying he's flattered by the interest shown in him...

Woah, Michael Ball played in two impromptu friendlies between our reserves squad and our U18 squad and he's already match fit. Neat!

January 20, 2007
Swindon now want to loan Burton. Their offer already has the recall clause and they'd pay all of his wage so I accept it.

January 21, 2007
Adam Miller
has accepted a deal with York and will join them on July 1st. Good for him.

January 24, 2007
Generoso Rossi
is complaining that not being part of the first team at Loftus Road is beginning to unsettle him. He is unhappy that he continually finds himself as an onlooker when the first team play and has said that he will be looking to leave the club if he doesn't break into the first team soon. Hrm, we got a new keeper coming, and you'Ve played erratically at best. That's kinda sad, but even though you had a great streak for us last season, I'd be ready to let you go...

January 26, 2007
Woah! Arsenal's star striker Roque Santa Cruz broke his leg in practice and will miss 5 month. Arsenal have some depth but that is a hit as he's scored 22 goals, assisted on 8 others while being selected Man of the Match 5 times, that only in league play... Thierry Henry is also just coming back from some broken ribs. We play Arsenal at Loftus Road in a couple of days.

You need to have a place to host your picture. What I do is, while in the game I hit the "prtscrn" on the keyboard, that saves a copy of the screen in the clipboard. I then paste it into IrfanView, the free image editing software I use, then crop top keep only what's needed and save it on my hard drive. I then upload it to my photobucket account and use their (img)(/img) (the parenthesis should be brackets) link generator to include it as it is or use their thumbnail code generator to include it as a thumbnail.

As simple as that.

Ask and ye shall receive... in screenshots though, my excel sheet isn't set to compare two players. Maybe I should add that possibility...

First, Jentzsch vs Day:

Second, Jentzsch vs Rossi:

Rossi isn't all bad in terms of ratings, but he's kind of shaky above the shoulders and can go down in flames when you need him to be strong, well that's my feeling though...

League Match #26: we play Arsenal at Loftus Road. They're currently in 3rd place. They just lost 1-3 in aggregate in the semi-final of the League Cup against Manchester City but are still 4-6 favourites to win this game.

Danny Shittu is away on international duty. Abubakari Yakubu and Pascal Cygan will man the center of our defense.

Michael Ball is back on the left side.

I decide to try something and go with a very explosive duo up top: Güiza (16 acceleration/pace) and Peter Lovenkrands (19 accel/20 pace). We'll see what these two can create...

This game is on TV and Abubakari Yakubu and Therry Henry are the respective key men for both teams. They add that Henry has scord 23 goals in the 24 games he's played so far this season, gotta admit it's impressive. They add that Arsenal are on a high and that it should be enough to get them the victory over us today.

It's a hard fought battle from early on, but we're getting our chances.

In the 32nd minute, Fabrice Fernandes plays a corner kick short to Damiano Zenoni who centers it to the edge of the 6 yard box. Abubakiri Yakubu's head meets with the ball and sends it behind the keeper for his first ever goal as a Ranger and a 1-0 lead!

We keep pushing them and that lead to a free kick just outside their penalty area. Freddy Guarín flights the ball straight in for his 5th of the season and a 2-0 lead!!

That is the halftime score. Not only are we dominating them in shots, 9(7) to 4(1), we're also winning possession with a solid 56%. Now, we need to hold them off.

At the 63 minute mark, I try something different as a pull back method. I put all of my defenders to super defensive, back arrows on the two centrebacks and I ask the defender line to play it deep.

We hold them off pretty well, until Pascal Cygan nearly gives me a heart attack in the 86th minute. A goof up almost caused him to score an own goal but Chris Day tipped it to corner at the last moment...

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Arsenal 0

What a sweet, sweeeeet win!!! We outshot them 13(11) to 8(1) on the game and we kept controlling the ball even as they kept trying to mount pressure in the second half.

As weird as that may sound after mentionning he almost scored an own goal, Pascal Cygan was selected Man of the Match with a rating of 8. He had a couple of big clearance just after his near own goal that helped Day keep his clean sheet. Michael Ball also rated at 8 in his return to league action.

We move up to 6th with the win but Newcastle has 3 games on hand over us. Still, worst that could happen is 7th place which is still pretty good. Looking at the table, it strikes me that we're #4 overall in goals scored. That is pretty good! Add to that 9th overall in least goal conceded, not too shabby...

Pascal Cygan
is selected on the EPL Team of the Week following his solid performance against his former club.

January 31, 2007
I don't comment often on other team signings, but wow. In the last day of the transfer window, Arsenal has agreed to the transfer of Shaun Wright-Phillips from Manchester United for a fee of $43.5M. Just so you know, Wright-Phillips is currently valued at $29.5M.

February 1st, 2007
The transfer deadline has passed.

The team board is still delighted with my work. Always good to hear.

February 3, 2007
Paul Dickov
resumes training following his physiotherapy sessions.

League Match #27: we play Southampton at Loftus Road. They're currently in 15th place and we are 6-4 favourites to win this game. I notice that in none of the games played between our two clubs has there been a team that scored more than one goal. Highest scoring game was a 1-1 draw.

Seeing that the game is at home and all, I try Generoso Rossi in the nets.

We go with the speed up top again.

Abubakari Yakubu goes to DR and Danny Shittu back in at DC.

Interesting, they show a 4-1-2-1-2 wide diamond formation although without arrows on the wingers. It's not often that I seen this formation, our formation, played by one of our opponents.

The first half ends scoreless even though we're spraying their keeper with quality shots. We're outshooting them 8(6) to 5(1) at the half, we should have converted at least one...

GRRR We can't convert in the second half either!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Southampton 0

We outshot them 13(9) to 7(2) and as you can guess it, their keeper got selected as Man of the Match with a form rating of 9. Rossi has a good game though, rating at 8, as did Fabrice Fernandes.

Anybody familiar with Hattrick will understand the concept of "post-MOTS syndrome". I clearly feel it's what has just happened to us. We fell flat after winning a huge one against Arsenal. Someday we'll be able to play a few good ones in a row...

The draw still allows us to move up to 7th. At the moment, 5th place is even attainable since we have a game on hand over Aston Villa. Newcastle still have three on hand over all of us though...

good catch, but I'm looking at a finish higher than just out of the drop zone, especially coming off that 2-0 win over the Gunners

Thanks for reading though!

actually, he needs 16 points to make sure he doesn't get relegated (18th). That would give him 56 points and Nottm Forest can only get to 55 points.

League Match #28: we play Middlesbrough on their pitch. They're currently in 14th place and if you remember, we put a beating on them the last time we played them, 5-0 at Loftus Road. They are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

Generoso Rossi stays in the lineup.

The show a funky 4-2-3-1 wide formation (2MC below three widely spaced AM, AMR-AMC-AML)

The first half ends scoreless. They're outshooting us but only on target 10(2) to 4(2). They took many shots from all kinds of angle. We're winning possession with 55%.

They show good ball control in the 70th minute and they tip a centered ball just behind Rossi for the 0-1 goal.

We keep working hard on them and it pays off in the 83rd minute. Danny Shittu played a long ball forward for Fábio Rochemback but Roch got tackled. Cedric van der Gun was just behind him and he the loose ball fell to his feet. He rifled a fierce half volley shot from some way out to tie it 1-1.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Middlesbrough 1

They ended outshooting us 15(6) to 11(5) on the game so I'm kind of happy with the road draw although we missed some amazing chances to start the second half.

Cedric van der Gun was selected Man of the Match with a form rating of 8 and a goal. He also connected with 6 key passes. Abubakari Yakubu also rated at 8 while Güiza only rated at 6.

We drop to 9th with 10 games to play.

League Match #29: we play Leicester on their pitch. They're trailing everyone and are currently in 20th and last place but beware as they just beat Bolton convincingly, 3-1. We are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

Well, looks like Generoso Rossi pulled another Frerotte, in training this time. He's got what they call a facial injury and is three days away from being completely healthy. What the heck is wrong with this guy??? Chris Day gets the start.

Michael Ball's condition is only at 76%. I start Steve Singh but I'll keep Ball on the bench in case Singh suffers from the big game jitters.

I put Peter Lovenkrands back in the left wing spot.

Leicester show a 4-3-3 formation to start the game.

Tomas Locatelli is the architect behind our first goal when in the 16th minute, his perfect pass into space ahead of Güiza leaves him all alone with the keeper. He won't miss his chance and he scores his 10th goal of the season to put us ahead 1-0.

That is the halftime score. We're outshooting them 9(3) to 4(2) at that point and we're far from dominating, getting only 49% in possession.

We also have some players who are low on condition. Tomas Locatelli is one, at 75% after the halftime break but he's rating at 9 and doing everything right on the field so I leave him in.

Only 3 minutes into the second half, Güiza steals a ball and lays it back to Peter Lovenkrands. He plays a delicious 40 yard long pass to Cristiano Lucarelli on the edge of the penalty area. He shakes free of one defender before burying the ball behind the keeper for the 2-0 goal.

I fin that our defenders are playing too forward and I'm waiting to give them the word. I guess the opposing manager sees that because they play one nice through ball over our defenders line and they make it 2-1.

They center a ball to the middle of our area in the 76th minute, Chris Day comes out for it, jumps, but... PENALTY!!! He's adjudged to have pushed the opposing striker. The kicker takes his run BUT DAY SAVES IT!!! and he even jumps on the rebound!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Leicester 1

It's never easy on the road and Leicester sure gave us a fight. Shots ended at 14(7) for us, 13(9) for them.

Tomas Locatelli was selected as Man of the Match with a rating of 10. He completed 40 of 48 passes, an astonishing 10 of them key passes. But hear this, we had another 10 on the squad. Peter Lovenkrands also got rated at 10, completing 25 of 29 passes, 5 of them key passes, but also winning 10 of 11 tackles. Not bad for a winger! Chris Day also did very well, stopping 8 of the 9 shots on target and rating at 9 in the process.

We move up to 6th place with 9 to play. Even though Newcastle still have three on hand over us and we're virtually assured of dropping a spot, 7th is still pretty dang nice.

And nice is what Bill Power is thinking about as the Q.P.R. chairman could not hid his delight following our win over Leicester City. As the top teams start the run-in for the title, it seems unbelievable that Q.P.R. are maintaining an unexpected position where they could qualifiy for Europe. It remains to be seen though whether they can continue their recent form and cement qualification.

That win was a huge morale booster!

We placed three on the EPL Team of the Week this week: Pascal Cygan, Tomas Locatelli, and Peter Lovenkrands!

February 23, 2007
My assistant informed me that Arthur Gnohéré was absent from training today. The centreback still has a long contract with us and I can't let that go. I issue him a warning which he accepts, acknowledging that his unprofessional behaviour was unacceptable and he deserved a warning. I'm a bit sad for him though. He was kind of a find at the end of last season but now it's kind of clear he may never get another first team chance with us...

February 25, 2007
Charlton won the League Cup with a win, 1-1 (2-4 on penalties), over Manchester City.

February 28, 2007
I had not reported on all their games, but Newcastle just played the last game of the three they had on hand over us. In that three game stretch, they won 1-0 over Southampton, lost 0-2 against Arsenal, and drew 1-1 against Middlesbrough. They were one point below us but are now only three points ahead of us.

The team board and the fans are still delighted with my work as manager of the club.

I go woah at their selection for manager of the month. Graeme Souness of Newcastle gets the award with 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss while most other teams only played three games in the month. It's easier to win two out of 5 than out of 3. Take us, I had a win and 2 draws but wasn't even mentionned in the top three...

League Match #30: we play Nottm Forest at Loftus Road. They are curently in 17th place and fighting hard to stay in the Premiership. We are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

Games of interest to us today include #14 Birmingham hosting #4 Liverpool and #5 Newcastle hosting #12 Man City.

Chris Day stays in the starting lineup for this one.

I decide to keep Cedric van der Gun as my backup strike as he can also double as backup AMC.

Both teams are well rested for this game and Nottm Forest show a 5-3-2 formation to start the game.

We catch a break very early on when Güiza's shot from 35 yards out is deflected by a defender. The keeper gets caught wrongfooted and it's 1-0.

That is the halftime score and despite it being a very low score, we are dominating them, especially in shots, 8(4) to nothing. We're also winning possession with an impressive 69%. It's aquiet domination as we didn't get any real chance of applying the kill shot...

Güiza doubles his tally in the 79th minute when he picks up the ball from just inside their half of the field and he runs it to the keeper before burying it with a precise strike. Up 2-0!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Nottm Forest 0

We outshot them 13(7) to nothing. You read that right, nada, zilch, rien, A BIG FAT GOOSE EGG

We move up to 6th with the win but Aston Villa still have to play their 30th game. Newcastle drew 0-0 with Man City, so we gained 2 points on them there. Liverpool won 2-0 over Birmingham. We're now 1 point from Newcastle and still 4 points from Liverpool.

yeah, there are gaps like that spread a bit everywhere, most of the times to give National Teams the time to play some qualifiers of some sort (EURO or World Cup for example) or also to allow teams to play in either the Champions Cup or the UEFA Cup...

I don't often comment on other manager's job security but... The Arsenal board will tonight be deliberating whether to sack their manager Arsène Wenger after several hundred supporters gathered outside the stadium to protest his handling of the club. Fans are the life-blood of any club and the board will be under no illusions that a repeated failure to act upon their wishes could se the clink to even greater depths.

I think this is kind of unfair to Wenger. I mean they had an atrocious season last year, but he's got them in a strong 3rd place this year, stil within shot of 2nd place. I decide to issue a statement and I comment that I have the utmost respect for Wenger. When making that statement, I see in his happiness level something very interesting. He feels he has let a club he loves down. I'd never seen that before.

March 10, 2007
Taking time out from his busy schedule, Arsène Wenger took a moment to mention to Football365.com that he thought Steve Gougeon was doing a very good job at Q.P.R. and that Rs fans were lucky to have him.

In reaction to that comment, Michael Ball and Martin Rowlands both believe that the team cannot fail to perform whilst under my guidance. Danny Shittu, Damianon Zenoni, and Peter Lovenkrands are all happy I'm getting the praise I deserve.

March 16, 2007
Güiza
bruised his shin in training today. He will miss 5 days and that will hurt his condition for tomorrow's game.

League Match #31: we play Liverpool on their pitch. They're currently in 4th place and only 4 points ahead. They are 4-5 favourites to win this game.

They've been playing a lot of 4-3-2-1 lately and I decide to try to counter it with a 4-2-2-1-1 formation with two DMCs, one AMC and one striker.

Cristiano Lucarelli is the lone strike up top and Fábio Rochemback becomes the second DMC.

Other games of interest today include #10 Blackburn hosting #8 Charlton and #7 Aston Villa hosting #5 Newcastle.

They apply a lot of pressure early on but we hang on and in the 7th minute, Michael Ball intercepts an incoming corner kick only to play it forward on a loooooong ball toward Tomas Locatelli. Locatelli centers it to Cristiano Lucarelli who's got a clear line on goal and fires a bullet to make it 1-0. They say that no keeper in the world could have saved that shot.

They tie the game 1:39 into injury time of the first half, when a corner kick is headed in by Steve Gerrard. Not only did he score, but he injured Michael Ball in the process and I have to replace him with Steve Finnan.

The halftime score is 1-1. They are outshooting us 10(4) to 4(2) in what turned out to be a very tough half. They controlled the ball a clear 55% of the time, but more important, 26% in our end of the field.

The second half has just started when they get a free kick and they play it forward. One of our defenders half blocked it, deflecting it to the right of our goal. A striker is there however and I think there's no way he can kick it in with that kind of angle, but he does it. DAMN! Down 1-2.

We keep trying but we just can't get close to their goal once they've pulled back.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Liverpool 2

We fought them hard, real hard but we couldn't get it done. They outshot us 15(6) to 7(3) on the game.

Tomas Locatelli was selected as Man of the Match in the loss with a rating of 9. Abubakari Yakubu also had a strong game, rating at 8.

#8 Charlton drew with Blackburn and #5 Newcastle won over #7 Aston Villa, leaving us in 6th place.

Tomas Locatelli
is selected on the EPL Team of the Week. He's been playing very well lately and I praise him in the media

March 20, 2007
The club's fans applaud my praise of Locatelli. They are said to be delighted with his recent form. The People reports that the in-form attacking midfielder has been setting the world alight at Loftus Road and fans of the team are loving every minute of his recent performances.

Marc Bircham states that he must be playing regular first team footbal if he is to stay at Loftus Road. The 28yo midfielder has also said that if he doesn't play regular first team football, he will start looking for a new club soon. I feel kind of sad for the blue haired Canadian. Yeah, he was a staple early on, but he doesn't cut it anymore.

A football website conducted a poll to get the fans' view on whether Bircham should be part of The Rs' first-team plans. Well, looks like they agree with me this time. Here are the full results: Yes: 1% - No: 99% - Undecided: 0%.

March 28, 2007
Dang! Despite being listed as part of the Reserves squad, Generoso Rossi is not getting any action. Dean Morgan started in their recent game and he keeps getting double duty, playing also with the U18 squad. He now has 46 appearances on the season. I list Rossi with the reserves for a reason, to keep him match fit in case I want to give him a start with the first team...

March 29, 2007
I booked a friendly between our Reserves and U18 squad and this time Rossi plays, getting a rating of 8.

Even though we're not playing, some games with possibly big implications for us are played today:
#5 Newcastle lost 0-2 to #1 Chelsea (no big surprise, but still good for us)
#2 Man Utd won 2-1 over #8 Aston Villa (again no big surprise but still nice for us)
#18 Bolton drew 0-0 with #7 Charlton (nice surprise and great for us)

With these games in the books, we're still in 6th place, tied in points with Charlton and 4 away from Newcastle but with a game on hand over both these teams. Here's what the table looks like:

The team board is still delighted with my work. Why wouldn't they be, seriously?

Of moderate interest to us, following our loss to them, #4 Liverpool drew 0-0 with #3 Arsenal.

League Match #32: we play Sunderland at Loftus Road. They are un 19th place but they beat us 1-0 earlier on, with their keeper pulling a Man of the Match performance on us. We are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

I decide to try the speedsters on top again. I put Fabrice Fernandes on the wing and Tomas Locatelli is on the bench to possibly sub him in the second half.

I give the start to Generoso Rossi but he's on a tight leash.

This game is on TV and they present Abubakari Yakubu as our key man and tireless midfielder Burton O'Brien as Sunderland's. They say he has created 6 goals in the 31 matches he's played in. As for their prediction, they say that Sunderland will be low on confidence after a poor run of form and that it should be just enough to see us through.

Looking at the possible milestones that could happen in this game, I see what they mean by poor run of form. If Sunderland fail to win today, it will be the longest run without a win in the club's history, beating the previous record of 17 games without victory. Woah...

We take the lead in the 25th minute with a shot from 25 yards out by Peter Lovenkrands that looked like nothing at all. We are dominating the game though.

The halftime score is 1-0 and we're outshooting them 5(1) to nothing. Doesn't look like it, but we really are dominating, winning possession with 60%

Fabrice Fernandes took a hit late in the half and his condition has dipped to 33%. I pull him and put Cristiano Lucarelli in Lovenkrands' place and move Lovenkrands over to the left wing.

Lovenkrands keeps playing almost as well on the wing as he was up top and in the 58th minute, he takes the ball almost to the byline before bending a perfect center to the far post for Damiano Zenoni. Zenoni's volley shot leaves the keeper without a chance. Up 2-0!

Lovenkrands is again very active in the 66th minute, as he overlaps with Cristiano Lucarelli toward the center before passing it back to the wing to Lucarelli. Lucarelli crosses it to the far post to Güiza. Güiza is kind of far from the goal, on the edge of the penalty area, but he powers a header toward the goal that surprises the keeper for the 3-0 goal!

They score a garbage goal in the 72nd minute, on their first shot on target, after moving the ball well in the midfield. Still up, 3-1.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 3, Sunderland 1

We outshot them 12(5) to 3(1) on the game and Rossi found a way to feel down about is game, only rating at 6, grrrr...

The win leaves us in 6th place. With 6 games to play, we're now a clear three points clear of #7 Charlton and only one point off #5 Newcastle. Liverpool will be tough to reach in 4th place as they are still five points clear.

League Match #33: we play Manchester City on their pitch. They're in 12th place and are 5-4 favourites to win this game.

Other games of interest to us today include #7 Charlton hosting #11 Fulham, #8 Tottenham and #5 Newcastle squaring off, and #4 Liverpool hosting #20 Leicester.

I've got the Rossi vs Day dillemma again. Chris Day usually follows an average performance (6 or so) with a good one but can Rossi do the same? He's not proven to me that he can, but I'm gonna try him one last time.

Fabrice Fernandes is severely unfit at 42% and he'll sit this one out.

I move Abubakiri Yakubu over to DC and I sit Pascal Cygan. Steve Finnan starts at DR.

In the 5th minute, Freddy Guarín launches one of his trademarked long throw-in that goes all the way to the corner of their 6 yard box. Turning and simply tipping the ball, Güiza scores in bizarre fashion. We'll take it, up 1-0!

They get a corner kick only 4 minutes later. I cannot fathom how we left a guy unmarked around the near post and left him with enough time to turn around and fire a missile to the back of the nets. Anyway, tied 1-1.

One of their inner midfielder gets sent off with a second yellow in the 39th minute and they go to a 4-4-1 formation. A white "5" flashed next to Generoso Rossi's name and I flip off, DAMN YOU POINT SHAVING FOOL!!! I pull him out and put Chris Day in the nets.

The half ends in a 1-1 tie. We're outshooting them but only on target, 5(2) to 5(1). We're very much in this game though.

The second half is only 77 seconds old when Abubakari Yakubu launches a looooooooooooong and sweeeeeeeeet, 55 yards pass ahead of Cristiano Lucarelli. Lucarelli is getting caught from behind and the keeper is rushing out to meet him. Lucarelli sees the opening and lofts it over the keeper's head to give us a 2-1 lead. Yakubu was the architect behind that goal, that's for sure!

We silence the crowd in the 71st minute, as Steve Finnan launches another attack with yet another 55 yards long pass to Tomas Locatelli who came in for Peter Lovenkrands. Locatelli beats one defender, then a second one, only to beat the keeper for a magical goal that gives us a 3-1 lead!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 3, Manchester City 1

Shots were really close, 9(5) for us, 10(3) for us, but we got hot when it counted. Steve Finnan is selected as Man of the Match with a rating of 8 and an assist, but he also intercepted 9 balls. In all, 5 other players rated at 8: Ball, Shittu, Guarín, Güiza, Day (in replacement of Rossi!), and Locatelli.

We receive some big help from Tottenham as they beat former #5 Newcastle. Former because WE have now moved into 5th place!!! And good thing we won, as #7 Charlton also won their game, 4-1 over Fulham. Liverpool keeps their strong hold of 4th place with an expected 2-0 win over Leicester.

Grzegorz Rasiak
resumes light training but is still one full month away from resuming full training. He won't play again until next season.

Following the nice win at Manchester City, I'm think that now could be the right time to ask for another stadium Upgrade. I mean, we're winning and now sitting in 5th place with a shot at qualifying for Europe next year, and even more, we got money in the bank, let's use it!

AND THEY CONCUR!!! Loftus Road needs to be improved if the club is to fulfil its full potential and they assure me that there are plans afoot to expand the stadium.

April 12, 2007
Dang, we're hit with many little, nagging injurie. Both DMCs, Fábio Rochemback and Freddy Guarín, have strained their necks in training and will mise 4 and 5 days respectively.

Cedric van der Gun stubbed his toe and will miss 3 days.

League Match #34: we play Aston Villa at Loftus Road. They're currently in 10th place but were very close to us earlier on before slipping a little. We are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

One other game is of interest where #6 Newcastle host #9 Blackburn.

Both DMCs are low on condition so I'll split the game between the two with Freddy Guarín starting and Fábio Rochemback on the bench to replace him later on.

Chris Day will start the last 5 games as I'm fed up with Generoso Rossi's pregnant woman mood swings. Rossi will see the field only if Day falters badly.

We keep the same line of defenders as in our last game.

Güiza scores his 15th goal of the season, just before the end of the half. He gave it a great second effort after having pushed the ball a tad to far. The keeper was getting to it but he wrestled it away before burying it for the 1-0 goal.

That's the halftime score and we're outshooting them but barely, 5(3) to 4(2). It's a very even game so far. Yakubu is having a downer, rating at 6 at the half, but I leave him in. Guarín's condition is down to 77% so not all bad and I also leave him in the game.

The second half has some action but no goal until 33 seconds into injury time when Cedric van der Gun intercepts a pass that their keeper was trying to chip over his head. He finds Fabrice Fernandes on the left and Fernandes bores in on the keeper. He scores the 2-0 with a fabulous strike!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Aston Villa 0

We outshot them on target but not overall, 11(7) to 13(6).

Chris Day received a fully deserved selection as Man of the Match with a rating of 9. Shittu, Zenoni, and Fernandes, him in only 16 minutes of play, all rated at 8.

Good thing we won since Newcastle also won, 1-0 over Blackburn. We're still in 5th place with 4 games wo play. We're now only 2 points off Liverpool, but they have a game on hand over us.

#7 Charlton pull back to within 3 points of us with a 1-0 win over #16 Wolves.

April 16, 2007
Danny shittu
and Damiano Zenoni have both been selected to the EPL Team of the Week.

April 18, 2007
Wow, #8 Tottenham stunned #2 Man Utd with a 1-0 slap in the face to pull within 4 points of us.

#4 Liverpool is pulling away from us with a 1-0 win over #15 Southampton. They're now 5 points away from us with only four games still to play.

April 21, 2007
Liverpool add to their lead over us with a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough. In a very important game for us, #7 Charlton tie us in points with their big 2-1 home win over #6 Newcastle.

Chelseas clinched the EPL title without even playing today. The Arsenal loss did it for them.

Leicester became the first team to be relegated from the EPL for this season today.

What I do to post mine is simply open the html generated by FM in a IE window and then copy/paste straight from that window to the WYSIWYG editor in here. I've found that posting html code doesn't work too well...

League Match #35: we play Chelsea on their pitch. They have clinched the title of the EPL and are 4-6 favourites to win this game. Their usual starting keeper, Craig Gordon, is injured and will not take part in this game.

I change nothing in my lineup.

I expect them to play a 4-3-3 formation so we'll play it wide with an emphasis on counter attacking.

This game is on TV and Abubakari Yakubu and Didier Drogba are boths teams key men. They add that the Chelsea striker has scored 23 goals in the 43 games he's played in so far this season.

They simply say they think that Chelsea have enough to secure a win against Q.P.R.

We take the lead in the 39th minute, when following an exchange between Cristiano Lucarelli and Peter Lovenkrands, Lucarelli launched an unstoppable shot to the goal. Up 1-0!

That is the halftime score and shots are fairly even, 7(4) for us, 10(4) for them. Possession is also pretty even. I'm impressed at how well we're holding up.

The goalkeepers of both teams are both rated at 8.

In the 79th minute, while trying to go for a header on a centered ball, Danny Shittu backs into an opponent... PENALTY!!! A dubious decision if there ever was one... Ronaldo scores to tie the game 1-1.

We start an excellent counter attack in the 87th minute when Cedric van der Gun passes the ball to Güiza in the middle. Güiza sends the ball right back to van der Gun who tries a shot from close range. The keeper was able to get a hand on it but all he does is push it sideways where Güiza is able to pick the rebound and bury it for the go ahead goal. Up 2-1!

They keep pushin hard all the way into injury time and it results in Damiano Zenoni fouling one of them just outside our penalty are, 2:40 into injury time. Drogba kicks it over the wall and straight to the back of the net from 30 yards out. A typical kind of Chris Day goal on a free kick...

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Chelsea 2

DANG!!! So close! We even outshot them on target, 17(11) to 19(8).

Many of our guys played a strong game to get us that result. Güiza rated at 9 while Steve Finnan, Danny Shittu, Peter Lovenkrands, and Tomas Locatelli all rated at 8

With three games to go, we're now seven points off Liverpool and 4th place, so this is basically out, but we've now pulled one tiny point clear from Charlton.

Tomas Locatelli
and Danny Shittu have both been selected to the EPL Team of the Week. It's the second week in a row for Shittu.

#8 Tottenham plays the game they had on hand over us and they draw 0-0 with #15 Birmingham. They are now 4 points away from us and we play them on the 28th.

League Match #36: we play Tottenham at Loftus Road. They are currently in 8th place and are 6-4 favourites to win this game. Prior to drawin 0-0 against Birmingham in their last match, they had beat Man Utd 1-0 on the road, and Newcastle, 2-0 at home.

Other games of interest to us include #6 Charlton visiting #2 Man Utd, #7 Newcastle hosting #11 Fulham, and #4 Liverpool visiting #16 Nottm Forest.

This game is on TV and key men for both teams are two centrebacks: Danny Shittu for us and Ledley King for Tottenham.

They're saying that there's not much separating the two teams and that we will find ourselves up against a team who have had a good set of results of late and they think the two clubs will cancel each other out. They add that this game has draw written all over it.

Danny Shittu is so pumped after being mentionned in the pregame show that he picks up a second yellow in the 14th minute and he's sent off. Tomas Locatelli who had been havign a rough start to his game, rating at 5, is pulled out and Abubakari Yakubu goes in to replace Shittu in the center of our defense.

In the 37th minute, they get a free kick just outside our penalty area on a harsh decision from the referee. Landon Donovan kicks it straight to the back of the net with a precise strike. Down 0-1.

That is the halftime score. Shots are pretty close at 5(3) for us, 4(3) for them, but we're winning possession in all three areas of the field and with an overall figure of 56%. Grrrr!

We keep putting the ball over the bar for most of the second half, until they score a garbage goal in the 85th minute following a long clearance pass over our line of defenders.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Tottenham 2

We sht 15 times but only 5 of these were on target, while they shot 8 of their attempts on target. Considering that it was at home, this is our first setback in a little while, although we did fight this one with only 10 men for 76 minutes...

Their goalkeeper was selected Man of the Match with a rating of 8. Chris Day also rated at 8 in this game, while both strikers rated at only 6, but these ratings were expected, given the number of balls they put in the stands...

Liverpool won 1-0 over Nottm Forest and they now have 10 points on us with only two games to play, so 4th place is now impossible to get. We catch a break though as both #7 Newcastle (0-2 to Fulham) and #6 Charlton (1-2 to Man UTd) lost their respective matches. With only two games to be played, we're sitting in 6th place with a tiny one point lead over two teams.

It seems we get one big injury to one of our strikers about once a season and Paul Dickov has kind of fell out of favor, leaving his spot on the bench to attacking midfielder/forward Cedric van der Gun lately, so I decide to go shopping for some depth and maybe some extra scoring power.

I fin 30yo goal scoring machine Raúl Sánchez on the Salamanca roster. He has good first touch and technique and great finishing skills and has scored 24 goals in 35 competitive matches this season. I like his skill set even though my assistant believes that signing him wouldn't be worthwhile. My team board even limit any contract offer to him to $18k per week, well short of his demands of $30,500 per week. I try it anyway, boosting the signing on fee from his requested $400k to $900k. He'd come mostly for depth, so I don't really want to pay over $20k anyway. He'll sign or I'll try to find another one...

I find another 30yo striker, this time playing at Milan, Danish Jon Dahl Tomasson. That guys could become the playmaker we sometime miss in the middle of the attack with his high creativity, off the ball skill and teamwork ethic. While his pace isn't the greates, it's not the worst either and he's got good to great passing, heading and technique/first touch skills. My assistant believes he would become a useful member of our first team although he recommens we make him an offer of $62k per week, a bit short of Tomasson's demand of $71k. I decide to go with my assistant's recommendation, especially since it's the same wage level that Tomasson is already earning at Milan. I do up the signing on fee from his requested $1M to $1.1M. This guy could step into the starting eleven, so I'd be okay with spending considerably more than what I'd be willing to spend for a guy like Sánchez
Jonathan Burton's loan at Bournemouth comes to an end and he is glad to come back to Loftus Road. He went has far as saying that this loan spell was a complete waste of tiem. He believes that playing with a team of that level taught him very little and he believe he would have learnt much more during the time if he had remained at Q.P.R.

Well, at least you go first team play and you didn't lose any skill, or at least very little. Stats-wise, Burton started 13 league matches with Bournemouth, mostly playing as a centreback. While he started strong, his play fiddled down the road and he ended with an average form rating of only 6.46 with 2 assists and one selection as Man of the Match.

Looks like a close race for Top 6! Coming right down to the wire. Who are you last two games against, and who is Tottenham and Charlton have to play still?
