OOTP 7 (2005) blurb

Found this tidbit over on Bill Abner's blog from E3:

Quote:
OOTP 2005 is coming along great. Todd and I got an "exclusive" look at a current build on the SI rep's laptop. The database is freaking HUGE now. Winter leagues, International leagues, minor leagues, you name it. The release date is now "Early 2005" and not September but everything looks good so far. The speed has improved, too. I sat there in stunned silence as an entire season was simluated in literally three seconds. GSpy E3 preview is forthcoming. I'll let you know when it's up.

The preview should be a good read, considering Bill's work.

Yeah, that would make it a bit overdue...

I've heard somewhere that it was delayed until Spring 2006 or something.

Considering that was just posted by Bill.. I'm thinking it's almost near completion.

But even if it is, it is no longer early 2005.

There is no way this game is released before 2006. I'll take bets on it...

especially considering the "but everything looks good so far" part. That sounded like something you'd say when the release date is pushed back, not forward.

it wont be release in 2005

because if SI just announce that FM2006 is coming out in DEC 2005. they would of announce OOTP release date already before FM2006 if it was coming out before Dec 2005.

I seriously doubt that you ever will. Markus mentioned that he was experiencing these very fast sim speeds, but was without any AI, or box score writing.

Yeah, something seemed strange from that post of Bill's. I wondered how in the heck anything was going on if you could sim all those leagues that fast. Oh well, the preview should be decent.. but maybe not.

That's where the slowdowns occur in most text sims. The genre naturally lends itself to statistical record-keeping and when you try to sim a sport like baseball, which should have about 75 games a day (5 classes * 15 games each), saving boxscores and updating data to disk becomes the real time-sink.

Not to mention all of the day-to-day AI decisions that have to be calculatedand recorded.

And calculate the number of times you have to get drunk with skanky hoes and get in a fight with Steve Kuffrey.

D'oh! That's reasons why ITP 2005 takes more time to sim. Sorry!

For the record, though, I wouldn like to say that Bill had me at "winter leagues." Mmmmmmmm ...

Yeah....I don't need winter and international leagues until somebody, anybody, really nails down a game with Rookie/A/AA/AAA/MLB. Heck, I think I might even settle for A/AA/AAA/MLB if it were done a good bit better than OOTP.

Yup. I would kill for a more accurate minors simulation.

Agreed on the minor leagues simulation. I'm optimistic that with SI's braintrust that the minor league simulation will be on par with the major league simulation, which is something we've never really gotten from the OOTP series. If it does, then stuff like winter leagues and the like will be icing on the cake.

I fully expected winter leagues and the like, simply because that's SIGames' sweet spot - with the leagues that FM, CM, EHM carry; it seemed to me to be a waste of the SI resources to not have the leagues include Japanese, winter league, and a full minor league system.

call me strange, but given that no one (to my knowledge) has even attempted to simulate winter & international leagues, I'm even looking forward to a crappy implementation of the feature.

Interesting difference of opinions. OOTP fails in so many other things right now that adding other things leads me to believe that they will fail as well.

Sweet. Maybe I can find you a job in the RWBL as the Yankees' winterball manager.

I actually hope minor league stats matter. I hate seeing guys hitting .350 in AAA downgrade and guys hitting .108 in AA upgrade. Makes no sense.

I play OOTP for FOBL, and FOBL alone as it now stands...and none of this is of any relevance to FOBL.

(I don't think a "freaking HUGE" database sounds too good for league file downloads either, especially owners who are still on dial-up)

*shurg*

I remember saying the same thing when the MLS came to CM, but when it actually happened, I was anything but thrilled. My favorite sim of the MLS in a CM/FM game was the mod for CM97/98 that replaced like the Swedish league or something. That was a hell of a lot of fun.

Yep, I would have settled for the re-write of the engine and then started off with a working OOTP 6 --> OOTP 7 with SI's influence. OOTP 6 is a lot of fun, but there are still many issues with waivers, AI roster management, and some other glitches that should go away with the engine re-write, but maybe if it's right on one level, it'll work on the rest.
