FOOL Expansion

Eric and the Leduc Bulletswill be in the CL and Kevin with the Tokyo Catfish will be in the RL.

The expansion will be after next season. I have to run a few tests to get the final details. I've never done an expansion in an online league so how the sims play out I'll figure out. We'll probably need a couple weekend sims to get back on schedule.

Looking forward to this as well.

For the record, 25 players max will be protected. Are you turning off the option that auto-protects players with 3 or fewer years in the minors. If not, it's more like 35-40 players being protected.

I knew I was forgetting to discuss something but couldn't remember what it was.

Everything I've ever done was just the number period. But lets discuss it some. You can auto protect anywhere from 1-6 years. I definitely think 3 years is to much but maybe 1-2 years would be good. What do you guys think?

I think zero is good. If you have a quality prospect you want to protect, then he should be in your 25.

Just looked, last expansion was 30 players protected. I'd be fine with leaving it at 30 but putting the minor league number to 0.

Maybe 30 without auto protecting is good as well.

Sorry I forgot to talk about this sooner guys/gal. I never claim to be good at this. All I've ever claimed is having the time.

I think the 2 options are 20 players protected with 2 years in minors automatically

Or 30 and zero.

25* players and 2 years auto protect or 30 players and no auto protect.

Looking through my team, I honestly think I could protect every player I want to easily with 25 spots and 0 extra years.

Sure, there are some fringe prospects that may make the majors some day and be serviceable that would get away. Or some players like the 8th, 9th, 10th pitchers in the bullpen, or 3rd and 4th hitter off the bench that would get away.. but nothing that gets me all upset.

I think I have 17-18 major leaguers I would protect if it was today and maybe 6 or 7 minor leaguers.

That leaves expansion teams to pick from my team at least no prospect better than 1 1/2 star and no major leaguer better than 1 star.

I don't know if that is your intention with the expansion draft, but that feels a little safe to me owner-wise. Maybe my team is a little different than others that stock pile more minor leaguers than me. Maybe other owners can do the same exercise and see where they end up as a comparison.

I myself agree that 25 players protected is still the way to go. Wanted to get others thoughts though as well.

25 should be fine. I don't think either Eric or myself will be drafting a playoff team even if only 20 players were protected. Personally, the expansion draft is more about filling the roster and stuffing a few players in the minors to kickstart a franchise. The real talent filling our rosters will be from free agents.

When does the expansion draft happen? Right before free agency? Obviously when it happens has an impact, too. Before free agency is when our systems are smallest. After free agency and the draft is when they are largest. So when we have it will have a big impact on things.

We'll do the playoff sim and then before flipping seasons to the next year, we'll do expansion. Then next sim is then the expansion lists being set by current owners. The following sim is the expansion draft. Then the next sim is arbitration sim and back on schedule. Thats the way Alan handled it in the past expansions we've done. I've tested this out yesterday matter of fact. Alan and I were just discussing it in PM.
