What does it take to win a Best Fielder Awards? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt, either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the Continental League consists of:

Aranda Presented CL Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award

All the games have been played, all the votes have been counted and the recipient of the prestigious Continental League Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award is José Aranda of the Apex Assassins.

This talented first-year performer hit .298 and put up a .366 OBP. In 152 games this year, the center fielder collected 155 hits in 520 at-bats, 16 home runs, 55 RBIs and scored 85 times.


Republic League Names Best Rookie

Today the Republic League announced that Toronto center fielder Fernando Moreno is the winner of the 2182 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

He finished the regular season with a .258 batting average, 22 doubles, 8 triples and 20 home runs. Moreno also had 107 RBIs and scored 102 times.

Herrera Tops Continental League Pitchers

The Baltimore Gothams have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making.
It's Jorge Herrera, this year's Continental League Gabriel Prado Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance.

Herrera compiled a 18-6 record in 38 starts, tallied 220 strikeouts in 235.1 innings and recorded a 2.60 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .228 batting average against him.


Rodríguez Grabs RL Gabriel Prado Award

The Gabriel Prado Award for 2182 has been presented and the Republic League winner is Tomás Rodríguez of Colorado.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Rodríguez. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Rancheros star told reporters.

Rodríguez excelled with an impressive 19-6 record in 32 starts. In 192.2 innings he yielded 185 hits and 61 walks, while striking out 142 and compiling a fine 2.99 ERA.

CL's Best Batsman Selected, It's Gómez

What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2182 Hideaki Tanaka Award in the Continental League. It had already been a very special season for Noblesville's Fabián Gómez, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

All season long Fabián Gómez gave opposing pitchers fits by hitting .368 as he collected 238 hits, 46 doubles, 3 triples, 35 home runs and 128 RBIs.


Ramón Rivera Captures RL Hideaki Tanaka Award

There's something special about a guy who can stride up to the plate and put the ball anywhere -- in the stands, off the wall, into the gap, down the third base line. You name the place and Ramón Rivera probably put it there on his way to winning the Republic League Hideaki Tanaka Award for 2182.

The Colorado right fielder belted out 225 hits in compiling a .364 batting average and racked up 52 doubles, 6 triples, 31 home runs, 138 RBIs and 106 runs scored.
