Billy Hilton feasted on Continental League pitching in April and today he walked off with the Batter of the Month award.

The London left fielder rapped out a .318 batting average while collecting 35 hits, 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored.


Waikiki's Suárez Snags April Batting Title

Bernardo Suárez battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 33-year-old Suárez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Suárez hit .333 with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

González Stands Out, Choice for Best Pitcher

Veteran Jaime González put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Omaha Bees, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

González racked up a 3-1 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.78 ERA over 35.1 innings and striking out 47.


Ann Arbor's Coleman Top Pitcher in April

April's top-rated pitcher was Jason Coleman of Ann Arbor Wolverines. He demoralized Republic League hitters in posting a 4-0 record and captured the Pitcher of the Month award.

In 6 starts, Coleman limited opposing batters to a .170 average. He rang up 41 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work, issued 5 walks, and crafted a 1.21 ERA.

Top CL Rookie of the Month Named

Fernando López might not have fully digested the impact of winning April's Continental League Rookie of the Month award when he got the news earlier today, but the 23-year-old quickly learned that he was no longer your typical rookie.

Posting a mark of 2-0 won-lost record will do that. In 4 starts he tossed 28.1 innings with 17 strikeouts and a 2.54 ERA. Opposing teams hit .235 against him during the month.

Not bad for a first-year man.

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Miguel Guerra just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

May's Best Batter Announced

There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Ramón Bermúdez helped his contract negotiations by nabbing May's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The London center fielder put together a .360 batting average with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Bermúdez continues at this brisk pace.

This year Bermúdez has hit 11 home runs and posted a .311 batting average.


May's Best RL Hitter is Mi-yuan Yap

Mi-yuan Yap really smoked the ball in May on his way to Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League.

The Maricopa right fielder hit .381 with 4 home runs, 18 RBIs and 26 runs scored to round out his great month.

Currently Yap has 7 home runs and a .382 batting average.

Sawyer Best CL Starter in May

May's standout hurler was Bill Sawyer of London. He muzzled Continental League hitters and held them in check the entire month to capture the Pitcher of the Month award.

To win the honor Sawyer compiled an impressive 4-1 mark and 1.59 ERA in 6 starts. The Bishops star hurler also rung up 65 strikeouts in 45.1 innings.

This year Sawyer has 7 wins and 2 losses and a 1.83 ERA.


RL #1 Pitcher in May is Ann Arbor's Martínez

José Martínez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 3-0 in May, the 27-year-old Ann Arbor hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 24 in 35 innings, logged an ERA of 0.77 and allowed opponents to hit .164 against him.

On his stats sheet this season Martínez shows a 5-2 record, 11 starts, 77.2 innings, 51 strikeouts and a 1.74 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Chris Perry earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Washington right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Perry hit .394 with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 5 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Perry is batting .312 with 4 home runs and 14 RBIs. In 34 games he has scored 11 times.


Moreno Picked RL's Top Newcomer

The outstanding Republic League rookie in May was Chicago's first baseman César Moreno.

Last month he played in 26 games and hit .289 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, and 9 home runs. Moreno also scored 11 times and drove in 25 runs.

Binette Takes Best Bat Trophy in June

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Adrian Binette put together a solid offensive month for Manchester and was crowned June's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .342 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored.



On the year Binette has hit .326 with 15 home runs, 38 RBIs and scored 55 runs.


Sánchez Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor

Alfredo Sánchez, the Chicago center fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .336 batting average with 38 hits, 15 home runs, 38 RBIs and scored 26 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Republic League Batter of the Month honors for June.

Sánchez has a .238 average and a .329 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 74 hits, 24 home runs and driven in 67 runs.

June's #1 Hurler Announced: Sawyer

June's elite pitcher was Bill Sawyer of London. He silenced Continental League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with 6 wins and no losses in 6 starts.

Sawyer restricted opposing hitters to a .155 batting average. He rang up 63 strikeouts in 49 innings of work, surrendered 9 walks and crafted a 1.10 ERA.

To date this season, Sawyer has a record of 13 wins and 2 losses and a 1.56 ERA. He has appeared in 17 games and struck out 172 in 132.2 innings.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Bill Taylor still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 31-year-old starter for Chicago was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 6 wins and no losses with 42 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 2.31 ERA in 46.2 innings of work.

To this point in the season, Taylor shows a 9-5 record, 20 starts, 124.2 innings, 110 strikeouts and a 3.90 ERA.

Felipe Román's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Plantana shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .266 with 10 doubles, 2 triples and no home runs. Román also scored 9 times and drove in 8 runs.

This year Román has batted at a .234 pace with 65 hits, 1 home run, 27 RBIs and scored 23 times.

Youngster Bob Farley emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Maricopa deserved the honor, batting .372 with 6 home runs and 18 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Farley enjoy the limelight.

Currently Farley is batting .286 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs.

FOOLX News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced

The Continental League All-Stars versus the Republic League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. It's the 2119 FOOL-X All-Star Game. The fans get to see all their favorite stars perform in the same game, and the outstanding players get to play against each other. CL's Best Batter Selected

His solid numbers speak for themselves. That's why Devin Burry of the Alberta Renegades was named the Continental League's best batter in July.

The Alberta first baseman starred with a .341 batting average, 8 home runs and 27 RBIs.

In 106 games Burry is hitting .298 this season with 117 hits, 14 home runs, 62 RBIs, 44 walks, .365 OBP and has scored 53 runs.


Ken Hodges Named Best RL Batter in July

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Ken Hodges can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 36-year-old second baseman for Las Vegas was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In July he batted .370 with 6 home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

For the year Hodges has hit .312 with 14 home runs, 88 RBIs and scored 73 runs.

Pitcher of the Month Named in CL

Arnold Burns of Washington had a tremendous July with a 3-2 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Burns restricted opposing hitters to 25 base hits and a .157 batting average. He rang up 39 strikeouts in 47 innings of work, surrendered 10 walks, and crafted a 1.53 ERA.

This season-to-date Burns has 11 wins and 7 losses and a 2.76 ERA.


Dukes Wins RL Top Pitcher Honors

Jimmy Dukes of the Waikiki Beach Boys is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.
In July he sparkled and shined on the mound with 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts.

Dukes checked opposing batters on 22 base hits and a .177 batting average. He rang up 41 strikeouts in 35 innings of work, surrendered 7 walks and fashioned a 1.80 ERA.

Up to now Dukes has compiled an ERA of 3.14 with a 11-7 mark over 21 starts. He has 125 strikeouts in 134.2 innings and has held opponents to a .240 batting average.

Icaza Honored by Continental League

Juan Icaza is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Alberta hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .233 average with 14 hits, 7 home runs and 14 RBIs.

This season Icaza is batting .192 with 14 home runs. His totals include 35 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

The standout Republic League rookie in July was Las Vegas's third baseman Iván Batista.

Torrid August Gets Binette CL #1 Batter Trophy

Bees Hurler Named August's #1 Starter

Bernardo Díaz of the Omaha Bees outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 4-0 won-lost mark and 1.34 ERA in 5 starts to get the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Díaz had a very impressive August, finishing with 29 strikeouts in 33.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .148 average.

It was a monstrous August for the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award winner, Paul Springer of the Waikiki Beach Boys. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Springer recorded 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts. Throwing a total of 37 innings, he yielded 26 hits, mowed down 28 on strikes, gave up 8 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.95 in a stellar month on the mound.
