Noblesville's Martínez Snaps up April Batting Award

When Jesús Martínez stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Noblesville center fielder posted a .422 batting average with 6 home runs, 13 RBIs and scored 28 runs. Martínez also worked pitchers for 15 walks to post a .508 on-base percentage.

Republic League Announces April's Best Batter

The premier hitter in the Republic League in April was Hammersmith right fielder Eric Haas. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Haas was selected after batting .358, hitting 5 home runs, scoring 22 runs and driving in 19.

Huan Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy

Ch'ang-chieh Huan was the anchor in the Noblesville bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for April. The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 13.2 innings over 13 relief appearances and collected a 3-0 record with 10 strikeouts and 5 saves while etching his 2.63 ERA.

April's Best RL Hurler is Marín

Sergio Marín has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Royals bullpen ace collected 8 saves and 9 strikeouts in 13 innings, holding the opposition to a .260 average and posting a 1.38 ERA and a 2-0 record.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Marvin Campbell is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .276 average with 24 hits, 4 home runs and 17 RBIs.

Jesús Pérez earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Pérez hit .343 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to García
Wednesday, June 1st, 2185
One of the more consistent batters in May, Noblesville right fielder José García grabbed Continental League Batter of the Month honors by hitting .370 with 34 hits in 92 at-bats.

He racked up 7 home runs and 29 RBIs, scored 23 runs.

This year García is batting .348 with 18 home runs and 50 RBIs. In 52 games he has scored 44 times.

Rivera Wins RL Batter of the Month

There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Ramón Rivera helped his contract negotiations by nabbing May's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Colorado right fielder put together a .453 batting average with 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Rivera continues at this brisk pace.

Thus far this year Rivera has hit .397 with 7 home runs and 41 RBIs.

Víctor Diéguez hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Baltimore starter earned a 4-1 mark in 6 starts. He threw 41.1 innings, struck out 9 and compiled a solid 2.18 ERA.

In 11 starts this year Diéguez has posted 5 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 72 innings, allowed 79 hits, struck out 18 and has a 3.50 ERA.

Freddy Vidro has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. No pitcher in the Republic League threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 6 starts Vidro compiled a 1.64 ERA, putting up a 4-0 record, striking out 30 and tossing 44 innings.

To date this season Vidro has compiled a 7-2 record with a 3.11 ERA in 11 starts.

Catcher Honored by CL

Youngster Simon Tooze emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Noblesville deserved the honor, batting .271 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Tooze enjoy the limelight.

Tooze is currently batting .256 with 7 home runs and 26 RBIs.

Vidro Named RL's Best Rookie

For a young man just making his way into the Republic League, Freddy Vidro has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award.

In May he fashioned a 4-0 mark and a 1.64 ERA. The Hartford starter struck out 30 in 44 innings as he walked 10 and held opposing batters to a .222 average.

In 11 starts this season Vidro has compiled a 7-2 record and a 3.11 ERA.

Delgado Wins CL's Best Bat Award

Noblesville's Tomás Delgado had a productive June and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Continental League.

The 27-year-old first baseman stood out at the plate with a .375 batting average, 12 home runs, 27 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

This season Delgado is batting .278 with 82 hits, 22 home runs, 66 RBIs, 34 walks, .349 OBP and has scored 54 runs. He has played in 84 games.

Colorado's Rivera Top RL Batter in June

Ramón Rivera of the Rancheros hit .410 in June with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 26-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

To date, Rivera has collected 137 hits for a .402 average. He has posted 14 home runs, scored 56 runs and driven in 65 runs.

Continental League #1 Hurler is Cradock

The Pitcher of the Month Award has been chosen and the Continental League winner is Napa Valley bullpen specialist, Toby Cradock. For his excellent work in June he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, he excelled with 9 saves in 9 save opportunities, a 0.00 ERA and 1 win and no losses. In 17 innings Cradock struck out 9 and gave up 7 hits and 2 walks.

His stats sheet for the year shows Cradock has managed to hold opponents to a .201 average in 44 relief appearances, while putting up 1-1 record with 49 strikeouts and 6 walks in 52 innings. He has a 1.73 ERA with 25 saves.

Hammersmith's Mallett Top Pitcher in June

There was nobody finer on the mound in June and Scott Mallett cruised to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 6-0 with a 2.85 ERA while piling up 29 strikeouts in 41 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .285 batting average.

Mallett has made 16 starts so far this year and put up a 9-3 won-lost record with a 3.16 ERA. In 105.1 innings he has allowed 107 hits, walked 26 and struck out 68.

Tooze Wins Newcomer of the Month

Simon Tooze's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Noblesville catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .290 with 6 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Tooze also scored 13 times and drove in 16 runs.

To date Tooze has chalked up a .267 average with 12 home runs, driven in 42 runs and scored 40 times.

June's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Raúl López just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 22-year-old first baseman for Omaha hit .390 with 39 hits, 1 home run and 15 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .445 on-base percentage.

This year López has hit at a .298 clip with 88 hits, 6 home runs, 31 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

Gómez Crowned Batter of the Month in July
Monday, August 1st, 2185
Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Fabián Gómez put together a solid offensive month for Noblesville and was crowned July's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .354 with 8 home runs, 15 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Gómez is batting .295 with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs this season.

RL's Best Batter Selected
Monday, August 1st, 2185
Ron Norton battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Norton told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Norton hit .318 with 7 home runs, 31 RBIs and scored 15 runs.

A look at his season totals shows Norton with 18 home runs, .257 BA, .305 OBP, 69 RBIs and 50 runs scored.

CL #1 Pitcher in July is Brooklyn's García

This month when the Brooklyn manager wrote the name "García" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in July Carlos García took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 2.57 ERA in 6 starts, piling up 42 innings and 36 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .256 average.

For his superb performance García was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This season García has compiled a 8-5 mark, 5.13 ERA and made 21 starts.

Tokyo's Burton RL Top Pitcher

Nicholas Burton took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in July. After all these years playing ball, the 40-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Tokyo last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.27 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 39.2 innings and striking out 24.

In 22 starts this season Burton has chalked up a 8-6 record and a 3.51 ERA.

Great Month for CL Rookie

Marvin Campbell of the Cleveland Cyclones has been chosen the top Rookie in the Continental League.

In July he racked up 26 hits, 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He hit .280 with a .393 OBP.

Campbell is currently batting .269 with 17 home runs, 58 RBIs and 53 runs scored. He has 96 hits in 357 at-bats.

RL Chooses Rookie of the Month

One of the bright young starters in the Republic League, Cory Davis is living up to the potential that Bees scouts thought might be there.

As a starter for Omaha, Davis paced his team with a 4-0 record in July to earn himself Rookie of the Month accolades.

He made 5 starts, tossed 32.2 innings, struck out 16 batters and allowed the opposition to hit .309 against him.

Over the season Davis has thrown 132.2 innings and dished out 74 strikeouts with a 10-6 mark and a 4.68 ERA.

The Continental League Batter of the Month has been chosen for August and the trophy was presented to Leonardo Morán of the Baltimore Gothams.

He stood out this month with a .376 batting average, 38 hits and 2 home runs, along with 24 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Presently Morán is batting .295 with 11 home runs and 67 RBIs. He has played in 135 games and scored 66 times.

Baldwin Captures RL Batter of Month Award

Abel Baldwin let his bat do the talking in August and the Republic League heard him loud and clear. He made plenty of noise as he put together a .402 batting average and was named the top hitter of the month.

Baldwin's month to remember saw him accumulate 37 hits, 7 home runs, 16 runs batted in, 19 runs, 13 walks and a .495 on-base percentage.

Baldwin is hitting .296 so far this season with 68 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 129 hits including 21 home runs, 67 walks and .412 OBP.

Winemakers Hurler Named August's #1 Starter

The Continental League made it official today -- Esteban Yan of the Napa Valley Winemakers is the Pitcher of the Month. In August he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters.

Yan made 6 starts, registered 4 wins and no losses with a solid 2.14 ERA. In 42 innings he allowed 27 hits, racked up 30 strikeouts, walked 9 and permitted teams to hit .182 against him.

In 33 starts this season Yan has crafted a 13-13 record with a 3.81 ERA.

Piane Wins RL Top Pitcher Award

A bullpen specialist was named the elite pitcher in the Republic League for the month of August.

The top votegetter was Rivelino Piane of the Colorado Rancheros, who finished the month with 15 saves in 16 save opportunities.

He had 1 win and no losses with a 1.69 ERA. Piane hurled 16 innings and totaled 14 strikeouts.

Piane has made 61 games so far this year with 41 saves. In 63.1 innings he has dished out 48 strikeouts and walked 6 with a 5-2 mark and a 2.27 ERA.

August was a very productive month for Simon Tooze. The catcher for the Noblesville Millers was named the best newcomer in the Continental League.

He captured the honor by hitting .287 in 26 games with 29 hits, 6 home runs and 19 RBIs.

For the year Tooze is batting .271 with 131 hits and 21 home runs. He has scored 61 times and driven in 83.

Lurte Gets August's Rookie Trophy

One of the Republic League's brightest newcomers, Dave Lurte was at the head of his class in August as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors.

The 22-year-old Toronto right fielder batted .347 with 3 home runs and 25 RBIs.

This year Lurte is hitting .273, produced 62 RBIs and 11 home runs, scored 49 times and gotten on base at a .325 rate.

I expected to be a playoff team today but I failed to realize that sometime between the beginning of last season and start of this season one of my SP's turned into a piece of doo doo. The time I've put in to my teams has been lacking the last week or so.

Sheesh.... Im not tanking.... Honest! I honestly thought my lineup is strong enough to overcome my pitching woes and finish .500

There is just NO PITCHING available in UFA. (Ok, there was some, but they are all compemsation signings, and i am restraining myself and not giving away picks)
Fortunatly im been focusing on drafting arms.... Unfortunately they are still a few years away....

Thanks again Dan for running this league! Without your dedication I would not be willing to hurl my computer through the winow in frustration

Tough stretch at the end sent my Hooligans down, but I wasn't terribly surprised. Actually, I was mostly surprised that we stayed in contention as long as we did.

For those interested, I have been starting Johnny Wright in my lineups the past couple seasons and also assigning him a relief role. He was not used much last year, but I had him as a LR. This year, I put him in MR. So it will be interesting to see how he has done. I know he did good as a hitter--he made the All Star team this year.

He still has world beating talents as a reliever (but needs much more Control).

The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come. He threw 13.2 innings over 13 relief appearances and collected a 3-0 record with 10 strikeouts and 5 saves while etching his 2.63 ERA. April's Best RL Hurler is Marín Sunday, May 1st, 2185 Sergio Marín has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award. He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In April the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .276 average with 24 hits, 4 home runs and 17 RBIs. Republic League Names Rookie of Month Sunday, May 1st, 2185 Jesús Pérez earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level. Today Ramón Rivera helped his contract negotiations by nabbing May's Republic League Batter of the Month honors. The Colorado right fielder put together a .453 batting average with 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Rivera continues at this brisk pace. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice. In May the Baltimore starter earned a 4-1 mark in 6 starts. He threw 41.1 innings, struck out 9 and compiled a solid 2.18 ERA. In 11 starts this year Diéguez has posted 5 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 72 innings, allowed 79 hits, struck out 18 and has a 3.50 ERA. RL Picks May's Top Pitcher Wednesday, June 1st, 2185 Freddy Vidro has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. The young man from Noblesville deserved the honor, batting .271 with 4 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Tooze enjoy the limelight. Tooze is currently batting .256 with 7 home runs and 26 RBIs. Vidro Named RL's Best Rookie Wednesday, June 1st, 2185 For a young man just making his way into the Republic League, Freddy Vidro has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award. Colorado's Rivera Top RL Batter in June Friday, July 1st, 2185 Ramón Rivera of the Rancheros hit .410 in June with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 22 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy. For his excellent work in June he has been named the league's best pitcher. During the month, he excelled with 9 saves in 9 save opportunities, a 0.00 ERA and 1 win and no losses. In 17 innings Cradock struck out 9 and gave up 7 hits and 2 walks. His stats sheet for the year shows Cradock has managed to hold opponents to a .201 average in 44 relief appearances, while putting up 1-1 record with 49 strikeouts and 6 walks in 52 innings. He has a 1.73 ERA with 25 saves. Hammersmith's Mallett Top Pitcher in June Friday, July 1st, 2185 There was nobody finer on the mound in June and Scott Mallett cruised to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today. He was 6-0 with a 2.85 ERA while piling up 29 strikeouts in 41 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .285 batting average. Mallett has made 16 starts so far this year and put up a 9-3 won-lost record with a 3.16 ERA. RL's Best Batter Selected Monday, August 1st, 2185 Ron Norton battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." Outing after outing in July Carlos García took command and usually got the win. He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 2.57 ERA in 6 starts, piling up 42 innings and 36 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .256 average. For his superb performance García was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers. This season García has compiled a 8-5 mark, 5.13 ERA and made 21 starts. Tokyo's Burton RL Top Pitcher Monday, August 1st, 2185 Nicholas Burton took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in July. After all these years playing ball, the 40-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-0 for Tokyo last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award. He tacked up a 2.27 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 39.2 innings and striking out 24. For the year Tooze is batting .271 with 131 hits and 21 home runs. He has scored 61 times and driven in 83. Lurte Gets August's Rookie Trophy Thursday, September 1st, 2185 One of the Republic League's brightest newcomers, Dave Lurte was at the head of his class in August as he picked up the Rookie of the Month honors. The 22-year-old Toronto right fielder batted .347 with 3 home runs and 25 RBIs. Actually, I was mostly surprised that we stayed in contention as long as we did. For those interested, I have been starting Johnny Wright in my lineups the past couple seasons and also assigning him a relief role. He was not used much last year, but I had him as a LR. This year, I put him in MR. So it will be interesting to see how he has done. I know he did good as a hitter--he made the All Star team this year. He still has world beating talents as a reliever (but needs much more Control). __________________ . .
