(And, yes, every white player from a small school is described as unathletic and a hard worker. But that's really all you hear about him from the coaches and local media. The guy plays every practice rep like it's the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. Even in a world where "great motor" is thrown around too much, apparently he really does have a notably amazing motor)

He's only 26 years old, and he's going into unrestricted free agency. And he just put up 13.5 sacks.

But if you really break down the numbers, you see that he got a lot of those sacks against single-team blocks b/c other guys on the D-line got extra attention.

And his high motor means that he's probably at or close to his ceiling.

I think that he's much more of a high-energy rotation guy/average starter than a double digit sack guy. If I had to predict, I would say that this season was a an outlier.

But, he's a 26-year-old DE with double digit sacks hitting unrestricted free agency. And those don't really ever hit the market.

So I am interested to see if some team overpays for him. All it would take is two teams to get into a bidding war to give him stupid money.

Or, do all 32 teams see him like I do?

Like I said, I'm interested to see where he ends up and for how much.

4.5 sacks in 5 games so far this season. Looks like I was wrong about last season being an outlier. He seems like a legit young double digit sack guy. Good for him, and good for Cinci in grabbing him.

It's a little surprising because the other end has been almost invisible in the pass rush. The interior rush has been better than expected, though, so that helps. He's better than I expected, as I thought he needed a strong partner rather than being the main focus for an o-line to stop.

My beloved (and undefeated)Cardinals were in need of TE help after they lost their starter for the season due to injury. So they went and got one of the best out there in Eagles Zach Ertz:

Cardinals trade for Eagles tight end Zach Ertz after Maxx Williams injury, dealing CB Tay Gowan and fifth-round pick

Gowan was a rookie and a bit surprised to see them trade him given all their injuries at CB right now, but they need a good TE right now.

Unfortunately, there's a rule against a player playing twice in one game week.

On a related note, I feel like this game will get a much better TV rating in the U.S. because the game is in London at 9am that it would have at any of the other NFL time slots.

Good news for the Cards with the Ertz trade, then bad news as their HC, QB coach and DL Zach Allen all test positive for COVID and will miss the game in Cleveland

Patrick Mahomes is playing football as if every questionable/bad decision he made for 3 years worked out so why not just keep doing it? He just Garo Yepremenian'd a pass he had no business throwing. Brett Favre is like, "Dude, WTF!" He's been doing it all year.

It’s always amazing to me how quickly NFL defenses manage to adapt even with all the rule changes in the last 10-15 years designed to make their jobs harder.

I think Mahomes is too talented to not turn it around, but so far this year it seems like teams are just following the template the Bucs laid out in the SB, which is wild for an offense that was basically unstoppable for 2 years beforehand.

This isn't the biggest takeaway from today, but the Bears should never wear alternate uniforms.

They have the best and most classic uniforms in the league. Every time they deviate from that is a mistake.

AFC North is fun this year. Browns and Bengals looking good. Lamar being Lamar.

I really like watching all three of those teams.

Vikings/Panthers suddenly became an interesting game.

Vikings give up *two* long 4th down conversions to let the Panthers drive 96 yards in 1:30 for the tying score.

It would help if Tyreek Hill stopped turning completions into interceptions. The defense regressing isn't helping them either.

Wasn't sure what to expect from the Cards/Browns game with all the injuries and COVID lists but Cards out 20-0 before the Browns scored was not what I was expecting

I also wasn't expecting a Browns hail mary TD pass to end the half either

I happen to be in Nashville for a conference on the day of the MNF game tonight. I don't know if downtown is always as packed as it was last night or if it's the FB game, but holy hell. I'm sure it was extra packed judging by the number of Bills fans I saw, but it was beyond crowded. I was in Vegas last week and there was no comparison - Lower Broadway was multiple times more crowded than the Vegas strip. Tonight should be interesting

The Saints sign Lamar Miller as a mid-season free agent, hoping he can give them something, but knowing deep down that he won't change anything for them.

In this, the Saints are like every Fantasy Football owner over the last five years.

And I wondered to myself "how in the world are the Broncos 3-3?"

Then I looked it up and discovered that those wins are over the Giants, Jags, and Jets.

Suddenly their record made a lot more sense.

Spielman has always been a loud, loyal and willing supporter of the Lions...which is, let's just say less-than-guaranteed with the Lions alumni, so it's nice to see him get his reward and to see it mean so much to him. Probably not really a surprise to anybody but him, considering he's a legit Lions first-ballot legend and he joined the front office this year. Appropriate that it's some kind of 'legends homecoming' game & Matt Stafford will also be coming 'home' to likely grind them into a paste.

Semi-related: a friend the other day mentioned "Jim Caldwell's one 9 win season with the Lions" as some grand achievement and outlier and I had to remind him (and myself, honestly) that Caldwell actually had at least 9 wins for 3 out of 4 of the seasons he was with Detroit....before they fired him. It does sound absurd when looking at this Lions team, which is not that far removed. The results of the Matt Patricia era reminds me of the Chip Kelly experiment in Philadelphia back in the day "How about I just uhhh, step in here for a second and completely fuck over your successful team AND empty the cupboards of all your best players?? Matty P out!"

It's absurd for both what came after AND before! Schwartz took them to one playoff game, but he was still well under .500 for his career. And of course, before him, it was a disaster of ... now proportions, I guess.

It's like the Bengals and Marvin Lewis. I'm only half-joking when I say that if you compare Marvin to Mike Brown's other coaching hires, he's probably a HoFer.

Very excited to see how Zach Ertz does as a Cardinal today against the Texans. Can't see them struggling against Houston, but they have the Packers next week, on Thursday I think, and just hope they don't overlook the Texans in the David Johnson/Watt/Hopkins "revenge" game.

So a crazy sure to be wrong prediction: With the Chiefs down 27-0 at the half to the Titans, and not looking very "Chief-like" this season so far, the Chiefs will not make the playoffs.

Because of Tua’s injury, I would have drafted Burrow over him. But I fully admit that if he had been healthy, I’d have picked him and not thought twice about it. That’s not looking like a good prediction at this point.

It's like they have a bungee cord attached to them, every time they get close to the end zone, they go way back.

Using a Yzerman reference in a Lions discussion may be an act of sacrilege.

One of those things is not like the other, one of those things just don't belong ...
