I heard the weather for winnipeg this morning, -44 with the windchill. Poor bastards. At least it keeps crime down. Kinda tough to rob someone when everyone is dressed like the michelin man.

It's been a brutal winter, and it just won't end. At least today there is sun, the first pic is from yesterday, which was even more depressing.

Not really, we are the violent crime capital of Canada, and I think we generally lead for car thefts as well.

How far-fetched would you find it that myself and a group of friends once decided on Winnipeg as a spring break destination in mid-March when we were in college? It was a hell of a trip, that's for sure.

I'm assuming legal booze was the basic goal of the trip?

Yeah.. we were all 19-20 years old, no money to go anywhere exotic and we wanted to get drunk.

There was a good sized group of us but my goodness we were willing to walk into any part of town and walk into any bar. We ended up in some very, very seedy situations but came out of it just fine.

Reminds me of this commercial:
2005 fountain tire ad - going to winnipeg - YouTube

I was traveling in South America after this commercial came out and it was our running canadian joke whenever something was looking like it was going to turn out terrible. Going to Winnipeg.

C'mon, it could be worse.........right? RIGHT? :P

I don't mind the odd -40 day here and there (we've had nearly a week of that crap thus far) but what I really hate is when we have these warm spells when snow and ice start to melt and then we get back to our usual below zero stuff...that just effs up everything.

This reminds me of the Jimmy Kimmel video about SD news anchors complaining about 50 degree weather.

i'm from the midwest (unless you're in the cool pictures thread) so the winter weather doesn't bother me and I'm actually pondering driving up to Beaumont to go experience it again.

I've always dreamed of living in Saskatoon. But seeing as how I've only made it 20 blocks in 37 years, I don't think I'm on pace.

I'm trying to imagine the reaction of the former Atlanta Thrashers the first time winter rolled around. That's a winter temperature drop of what, 60-70 degrees fahrenheit?

Well, to be fair, most hockey players would have been awed at temperatures in Atlanta during hockey season considering where most of them grew up.

There was a stretch of a few days a couple weeks ago where we were around -10F during the day. I didn't dare venture outside after dark.

I feel like Canada needs to buy a chain of tropical islands somewhere. Like let Canada take Cuba once Castro dies.

Moved to California from Chicago last February and haven't yet regretted it.

The blizzard of 2011 was what finally pushed me over the edge:

The abandoned cars in the video aren't on some side street. That is Lake Shore Drive, the main thoroughfare through Chicago.
