Continental League Selects April's Best Batter
Friday, May 1st, 2167: When Luiz Lenzi stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Halifax center fielder posted a .333 batting average with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 15 runs. Lenzi also worked pitchers for 8 walks to post a .377 on-base percentage.


Colorado's Rodríguez Snags April Batting Title
Friday, May 1st, 2167: Tomás Rodríguez battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Rodríguez told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Rodríguez hit .414 with 3 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 14 runs.

Assassins Hurler Named CL's Best Starter
Friday, May 1st, 2167: As Neil Little hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for April, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Apex once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Little put pressure on the Assassins to keep him around by posting a 3-0 record and an ERA of 1.41 over 32 innings last month. He also rolled up 26 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Apex and to every other team in the league.


Republic League Announces #1 Starter
Friday, May 1st, 2167: Lucien Martel's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in April, the 31-year-old Colorado hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 27 in 42.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.91 and allowed opponents to hit .242 against him.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2167: Mike Anderson earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Halifax left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Anderson hit .292 with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 20 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.


RL Rookie Hittin' on All Cylinders in April
Friday, May 1st, 2167: Swinging a hot stick in April, José Gómez picked up the Republic League Rookie of the Month Award today.

The 26-year-old first baseman for Hartford lashed 18 hits as he put together a .295 average with 1 home run. He also drove in 16 runs, scored 5 times and drew 5 walks on his way to a .348 OBP.

Napa Valley's Carasquillo Bags CL Batting Award
Monday, June 1st, 2167: When Pedro Carasquillo stepped up to the plate in May, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Napa Valley shortstop posted a .396 batting average with 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 29 runs. Carasquillo also worked pitchers for 11 walks to post a .472 on-base percentage.

A look at his season totals shows Carasquillo with 10 home runs, .338 BA, .415 OBP, 28 RBIs and 43 runs scored.


Ann Arbor's Homer Top RL Batter in May
Monday, June 1st, 2167: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Harvey Homer put together a solid offensive month for Ann Arbor and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .402 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 26 runs scored.



In 50 games this year Homer has posted a .330 average and put up these numbers: 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

Reliever García May's Pitcher of the Month
Monday, June 1st, 2167: Jaime García was the anchor in the Napa Valley bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 30-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 16.2 innings over 17 relief appearances and collected a 5-0 record with 13 strikeouts and no saves while etching his 1.08 ERA.

This season García has made 32 relief appearances, pitched 32.1 innings and struck out 26 with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss. He has compiled a 3.06 ERA and saved 1 games.


Hooligans Grimes Named RL's Best Pitcher
Monday, June 1st, 2167: Brad Grimes hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Hammersmith starter earned a 5-0 mark in 5 starts. He threw 36.2 innings, struck out 22 and compiled a solid 1.72 ERA.

In season stats Grimes shows a 8-1 record in 10 games, 69.1 innings, 36 strikeouts and a 2.99 ERA.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Monday, June 1st, 2167: Mike Anderson's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Halifax left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .311 with 8 doubles, no triples and 6 home runs. Anderson also scored 14 times and drove in 11 runs.

So far this season Anderson has gotten 61 hits in 202 at-bats for a .302 batting average with 11 home runs. His stats include 26 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 51 games.


May's Premier RL Rookie Named
Monday, June 1st, 2167: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Tom Richard just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 23-year-old third baseman for Chico hit .238 with 25 hits, 8 home runs and 16 runs batted in. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .273 on-base percentage.

Currently Richard has 12 home runs and a .212 batting average.

June's Premier Batter Announced
Wednesday, July 1st, 2167: Craig Ray received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Cleveland's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Craig's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Ray put up a .384 batting average, 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 23 times in June.

This season Ray has hit at a .313 clip and produced 62 RBI, 16 home runs and 62 runs.


Homer of Ann Arbor RL Batter of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2167: Harvey Homer had quite a month with the bat in June and the Ann Arbor center fielder was crowned Republic League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .406 with 43 hits, 6 home runs, 14 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also drew 15 walks to post a .492 on-base percentage.

Homer has collected 106 hits for the Winged Lingerines this year, 15 of them home runs. He has also netted 47 RBIs and scored 61 runs while batting .357.

Continental League Premier Pitcher is Chong
Wednesday, July 1st, 2167: Mun-yeong Chong nailed down June's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on Apex to get a deal done before the 32-year-old becomes a free agent.

Chong seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-1 record, reeled off 29 strikeouts, worked 38 innings and held batters to a .236 average for the month as he posted a 2.13 ERA.

In 16 starts this season Chong has rung up a 9-5 record and a 3.73 ERA.


Heard Is RL's Best Pitcher in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2167: Veteran Tony Heard put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Toronto Marlboros, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Heard racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.92 ERA over 37 innings and striking out 28.

Heard has a 5-9 season record so far. In 16 starts, he has fanned 83 batters in 98 innings with a 5.42 ERA.

June's Top Rookie Named by CL
Wednesday, July 1st, 2167: Youngster Elliot Carveth emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .431 with 2 home runs and 13 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Carveth enjoy the limelight.

For the year Carveth has hit .363 with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 25 runs.


Duchesneau Top of His Class in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2167: Steve Duchesneau was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old shortstop definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 20 games Duchesneau batted .333 for Chico, slapping 23 hits in 69 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 9 runs and scored 13 times.

To date, Duchesneau has collected 59 hits for a .263 average. He has posted 8 home runs, scored 26 runs and driven in 26 runs.

Saturday, August 1st, 2167: Pedro Correa picked up the top batter prize in the Continental League for July.

The Noblesville left fielder hit .379 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also drew 9 walks to post an OBP of .455.

This year Correa has hit at a .282 pace and produced 77 RBIs, 23 home runs and scored 73 runs.

Saturday, August 1st, 2167: July was a very good month for Roberto Aguilar of the Noblesville Millers. He held opposing hitters for a .208 average and took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

In 5 starts he claimed a 5-0 record as he put up a 2.08 ERA and struck out 19 in 34.2 innings.

To date this season, Aguilar has a record of 6 wins and 7 losses and a 4.99 ERA. He has appeared in 20 games and struck out 79 in 113.2 innings.


Ann Arbor Starter Named RL's Best Pitcher
Saturday, August 1st, 2167: In July, Ramón Tapia tore through the Republic League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Ann Arbor starter posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 1.32 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 27.1 innings he collected 16 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .157 average.

His record this season is 10-3 in 20 starts and Tapia has a 2.86 ERA.

Red-Hot Halifax Rookie Rated CL's Best
Saturday, August 1st, 2167: Mike Anderson is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Halifax hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .278 average with 27 hits, 5 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Anderson is hitting .291 this year with 20 home runs, 53 RBIs and 69 runs scored. He has 113 hits in 388 at-bats, 40 walks and a .373 on-base percentage. Anderson has played in 100 games.


Hartford Rookie Biggest Vote-Getter in RL
Saturday, August 1st, 2167: José Gómez wreaked havoc on Republic League pitching last month and led the charge for the Rookie of the Month Award.

In July he batted .333 for the Riverhawks, lashing 16 hits and 3 home runs. The Hartford first baseman also drove in 14 runs and scored 9 times to round out a most impressive month.

This year Gómez has hit at a .305 clip with 52 RBIs, 7 home runs and 26 runs scored.

Great August Gets Abreu CL Best Hitter Award
Tuesday, September 1st, 2167: Miguel Abreu battered Continental League pitchers all August and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Abreu told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 24 games, Abreu hit .407 with 8 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

Currently Abreu has 18 home runs and a .324 batting average.


Moreno Wins RL's Best Bat Award
Tuesday, September 1st, 2167: On the heels of a very productive August, Víctor Moreno received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .312 for the Hartford Riverhawks and racked up 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

For the season, Moreno is hitting at a .277 clip with 24 home runs, 79 RBIs and has scored 84 runs. He has 139 hits, 85 walks and a .384 on-base percentage.

Continental League Announces Top Starter
Tuesday, September 1st, 2167: Ken Pearson is the latest Continental League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Napa Valley starter shined on the hill time and again last month and finished August with a sparkling 4-2 record.

In 7 starts he tossed 45.1 innings, posted 33 strikeouts, and put up a 1.59 ERA.

This year in 31 starts, Pearson has recorded 12 wins and absorbed 10 losses. He has pitched 162 innings, allowed 159 hits, struck out 138 and has a 4.22 ERA.


Riverhawks Young Chosen August's Best in RL
Tuesday, September 1st, 2167: Hartford starter Ralph Young really put the chill on opposing teams in August and today was acclaimed the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 5-1 mark and 2.64 ERA in 6 starts. In 44.1 innings, he fanned 29 and walked 8.

This season Young has crafted a 10-5 mark with a 4.06 ERA in 166.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .270 against him and he has 120 strikeouts.

August Sensation CL's Best Rookie
Tuesday, September 1st, 2167: Sportswriters, fans, teammates and peers across the Continental League agree that Basilio Pallavicini is definitely worthy of Rookie of the Month recognition.

In August the 26-year-old Baltimore starter racked up 4 wins and no losses with a 0.84 ERA as he struck out 11 in 10.2 innings and held opponents to a .171 batting average.

To date this year Pallavicini has compiled a 7-0 mark with a 4.32 ERA in 0 starts.


Rookie Center Fielder Honored by RL
Tuesday, September 1st, 2167: Almost everyone agreed -- fans, teammates, peers -- and BNN sportwriters, too -- that Jeff Burch was worthy of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

In the month of August the Toronto center fielder was a bigtime threat. The 24-year-old Toronto center fielder played in 26 games and hit .304 with 8 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs. Burch also scored 22 times and drove in 14 runs.

Ray Takes Home CL Top Batter Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2167: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Craig Ray can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 35-year-old right fielder for Cleveland was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In September he batted .309 with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

This season Ray has 33 home runs and a .295 batting average.


Peña Picks Up Best RL Batter Honors for September
Thursday, October 1st, 2167: Colorado's Bernardo Peña had a productive September and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Republic League.

The 26-year-old center fielder stood out at the plate with a .354 batting average, 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

A look at his current stats shows Peña with a .261 average, 21 home runs, 91 RBIs and 90 runs scored. He has played in 151 games.

Continental League Selects #1 Starter in September
Thursday, October 1st, 2167: A standout performance in September earned Arturo Trejo the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. When his name was penciled in to start by the Halifax skipper, it meant trouble for opposing teams. For the month the Winter Wolves star racked up 4 wins and no losses.

In 31.2 innings of work, Trejo limited opposing batters to 26 base hits and a .224 batting average. He notched 16 strikeouts, issued 13 walks and had a 2.56 ERA.

Trejo has started 29 times this year, pitched 156.2 innings, fanned 99 batters and walked 72. His current record is 12 wins and 10 losses with a 4.02 ERA.


RL #1 Pitcher in September is Colorado's Martel
Thursday, October 1st, 2167: Lucien Martel of the Colorado Rancheros is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.
In September he sparkled and shined on the mound with 5 wins and 1 loss in 6 starts.

Martel checked opposing batters on 38 base hits and a .222 batting average. He rang up 31 strikeouts in 46.2 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks and fashioned a 2.31 ERA.

Thursday, October 1st, 2167: Halifax's Andrés González created quite a buzz around town today when he was presented September's Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy.

The standout rookie catcher took the award by connecting for 30 hits in 98 at-bats for a .306 batting average. During the month he collected 6 home runs, drove in 19 runs and scored 14 times.

For the season González has hit .249 with 24 home runs and 73 RBIs. He has played in 148 games and scored 71 times.


Big Month Brings in RL Top Rookie Trophy
Thursday, October 1st, 2167: The outstanding Republic League rookie in September was Chico's shortstop Steve Duchesneau.

Last month he played in 23 games and hit .308 with 8 doubles, no triples, and 6 home runs. Duchesneau also scored 12 times and drove in 12 runs.

Posting a .249 batting average to date, Duchesneau has 15 home runs and 47 RBIs.
