Saturday, May 1st, 2173: When Francisco Montés stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Brooklyn shortstop posted a .380 batting average with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Montés also worked pitchers for 5 walks to post a .429 on-base percentage.

Saturday, May 1st, 2173: Pancho Gamboa of the Hammersmith Hooligans stood out in April with a .339 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

Saturday, May 1st, 2173: Javier Pérez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 33-year-old Baltimore hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 20 in 29 innings, logged an ERA of 3.41 and allowed opponents to hit .274 against him.


Marlboros Starter Wins RL Pitching Award
Saturday, May 1st, 2173: Han-seung Paek hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Toronto starter earned a 5-0 mark in 5 starts. He threw 36.1 innings, struck out 23 and compiled a solid 1.24 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2173: Jesús Ruíz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Brooklyn hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .272 average with 28 hits, 5 home runs and 13 RBIs.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2173: Andrés Medellín was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 20 games Medellín batted .426 for Toronto, slapping 29 hits in 68 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 8 runs and scored 16 times.

Herrera Wins Best Bat Trophy in May
Tuesday, June 1st, 2173: Ramón Herrera has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for May.

In 29 games the Baltimore batter hit .357 with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

This year Herrera is hitting .308, produced 25 RBIs and 6 home runs, scored 34 times and gotten on base at a .380 rate.


Republic League Selects May's Best Batter
Tuesday, June 1st, 2173: Elliot Carveth battered Republic League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Carveth told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Carveth hit .306 with 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

This year Carveth is batting .309 with 63 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 37 times and has batted in 38 runs.

Cleveland Reliever May's Best Pitcher
Tuesday, June 1st, 2173: Enrique Ramírez has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Cyclones bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 16 strikeouts in 14.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .163 average and posting a 1.84 ERA and a 2-0 record.

Ramírez has nailed down 15 saves to date. In 28.2 innings he has fanned 29 batters and walked 3. His pitching record is 3 wins and no losses with a 1.26 ERA.


Republic League Premier Pitcher is Burton
Tuesday, June 1st, 2173: Hammersmith starter Nicholas Burton really put the chill on opposing teams in May and today was acclaimed the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and 3.22 ERA in 5 starts. In 36.1 innings, he fanned 28 and walked 6.

This year Burton has compiled a 7-1 record with a 4.95 ERA in 11 starts.

Tuesday, June 1st, 2173: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Jesús Ruíz just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 23-year-old third baseman for Brooklyn hit .400 with 36 hits, 5 home runs and 20 runs batted in. He also logged 6 walks and compiled a .424 on-base percentage.

Ruíz is hitting .332 in 2173 with 33 RBIs and 10 home runs.


Lorenzo Pérez Triumphs in RL Rookie Vote
Tuesday, June 1st, 2173: Lorenzo Pérez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Hartford shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

Thursday, July 1st, 2173: Orlando Ramírez had quite a month with the bat in June and the Brooklyn center fielder was crowned Continental League Batter of the Month for his outstanding efforts.

To win the honor, he batted .343 with 34 hits, 11 home runs, 22 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also drew 7 walks to post a .420 on-base percentage.

Thursday, July 1st, 2173: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Elliot Carveth put together a solid offensive month for Hartford and was crowned June's top batter in the Republic League.

Thursday, July 1st, 2173: With his 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA in June, Bernardo Bermúdez's selection as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month was well deserved.

He made 12 relief appearances, racking up 9 saves, 11 strikeouts and 2 walks in 14 innings.

This year Bermúdez has 19 saves with a 2-3 won-lost mark and 2.59 ERA.


RL's Best Starter is Montoya
Thursday, July 1st, 2173: Jesús Montoya of the Montreal Royals is the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Ruíz hit .269 with 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 13 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

For the season Ruíz has hit .311 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs. He has played in 76 games and scored 47 times.


June's #1 RL Rookie Named
Thursday, July 1st, 2173: Youngster Lorenzo Pérez emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Hartford deserved the honor, batting .269 with 3 home runs and 10 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Pérez enjoy the limelight.

Pérez on the season is batting .261 with 11 home runs. His totals include 37 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has played in 79 games.

Vaughan Voted Best CL Pitcher in July
Sunday, August 1st, 2173: There was little doubt around the Continental League that Dave Vaughan would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for July. Today, they made it official, naming the 25-year-old Brooklyn Brownstones starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .173 batting average while fashioning a 1.50 ERA in 5 starts. His record for the month was 5-0 in 36 innings of work.

Up to now Vaughan has recorded a record of 13-2. In 20 starts he has fanned 86 batters in 119.1 innings with a 3.92 ERA.


Paek Is July's Best RL Hurler
Sunday, August 1st, 2173: Han-seung Paek was firing on all cylinders in the month of July with 5 wins as he steamrolled all Republic League opposition on his way to the Pitcher of the Month award.

Wednesday, September 1st, 2173: He was the #1 pitcher in August according to the voters. Juan Magalaes completely shut down opposing teams to win the Continental League Pitcher of the Month Award.

Napa Valley's star reliever held the opposition to a .286 average and put up 7 saves and 10 strikeouts in 15 innings with a 3-1 mark and 4.20 ERA.
