Tip jars. An extra dollar tip will get you better service, whether it's loading up your groceries, cooking your food, mixing your drink, etc.

A buck bought me a CD player, a toy spark gun from the 1980s, a stuffed panda, a calendar, and a pseudo-leather messenger bag from woot.com last week.
Best bang I've gotten for a buck in recent memory. |

Along the same lines, upgrading from the fries to the onion rings at a good low-midrange dinner chain or loading your potato is a pretty good deal. |

Liar. That was eight bucks, counting the three woots and shipping. And I missed the BoC last time. |

I don't count shipping, because I would pay that much whether the item was a buck or thirty bucks. Also, I only ordered one crap in my BoC. They sent me four. Not complaining. |

I guess a strike rate of about 2/3 is pretty good, given the open-ended nature of the thread.

NYC street vendor pretzel.
It's a solid bargain at $1.00, and I can barely even think of other things I buy that cost less than a buck.

I thought about this as I got a truly gigantic Slurpee refill for Mrs. Q earlier today, in a 54-oz insulated mug, and was charged 94 cents with tax.
Not sure it's the all-rime champ, but given the degree of happiness she derives from them, it's a damned good investment in this household. |

Maybe the best dollar spent is for an add-on of some sort? Like paying the extra buck to get chili sauce on your double footlong dog, or something along those lines?

The winning Powerball ticket would be a pretty good $1 purchase.

Either something like that or picking up something really cheap and cool at a garage sale. When I was a kid I got the 1985 Bill James Baseball Abstract for a dollar at a flea market. That was the first year he put in the spreadsheet information for his Brock2 player prediction system. By my junior year in high school I had MEMORIZED all the formulae and was using the little random number generator on my pocket calendar to make up fictitious player's careers during class. Best dollar I ever spent.

Excellent single purchase, but obviously not repeatable. It's like there needs to be separate classes of winners here. I once bought a whole stack of old Games magazines for a dollar (maybe two) at a garage sale... as you might imagine, I was rather elated. Garae sales and flea markets are the bomb diggity. |

I'm cheating, but $1.40 (CDN) will buy me the large Tim Horton's double-double that makes the difference between me being a functional human being during morning rush hour and driving my car into oncoming traffic.

Although they're 50 cents a play now for most cabinets, best place for me to spend a buck is in an arcade.
I can make a buck last several hours playing one of the Soul Caliber or Street Fighter games in an arcade, because no one can beat me. It's good times

I would say adding bacon to my sandwich at Subway...but I think that's actually $1.50.
Once a year our local library has a huge book sale with a ton of good stuff (most is donated from local stores). I end up spending about $20 and get 25 books or so, many of them new. I got a nice PHP book for a buck, and one of the Motley Fool books for a dollar as well.

For a short while I got REALLY good at those claw machines at the local restaurants that were filled with stuffed animals. My daughter has a nice collection that cost me a buck or less each, and the look on her face when I gave her each one was priceless.
Alas, my skillz are gone...
