Hmm, I’m going to request a litter box at work. That’s a great idea.

Getting a colonoscopy sucks.

What's worse (as I've heard from basically anyone that's had one) is drinking that crap they make you drink the day before.

The only thing that's worse is spending time and money driving around town looking for that crap (magnesium citrate) because it's apparently one of the products in the pandemic shortage. It took me 4 stores before I found any in stock.

That's like having to go buy the bullets for the gun that is going to shoot you.

It isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Definitely schedule for the morning if possible. The actual procedure is cake.

I do the FOBT test as an alternative. Nice and non-invasive, and nothing horrid to drink.

My wife had one a couple of years ago as part of some acid reflux issue where they were trying to rule out other things. She threw up twice and spent the rest of the day sitting on the toilet as opposed to facing it. I'll be working from home the day before the procedure based on her experience.

I have heard that the procedure itself isn't that big of a deal. I'm having another procedure at the end of November which is going to be far worse. YAY ME.

My younger daughter loves cherry pop of all kinds and she's skinny enough that she buys all sorts of non-diet stuff like Cheerwine, Ale 8, etc. So she comes home with a bottle of Pepsi Black Cherry Soda to try.

Now, we're not a Pepsi family at all, so it's already got 1 strike against it. I take one quick drink and first thought is, not bad but way too sweet. Second/third swig... this tastes like a sweeter and carbonated version of Robitussin DM Cherry.

No thanks.

My older daughter had quite the weekend. Came home to go to a show with me on Friday night and got into her first mosh pit (it was also my first that involved a band with a washboard player), then got up first thing Saturday morning, picked up her boyfriend in Cincy and drove to Cleveland to attend the rock n' roll HOF induction ceremony with her boyfriend's mom, then went to the Browns/Steelers game yesterday.

That's a pretty full weekend.

I had my second colonoscopy a month ago, as my first was 10 yrs ago. What are they giving you that tastes bad?

Here, and sorry can't remember what it was, you pick up a powder (maybe it was magnesium citrate?) and dump it into two quarts of Gatorade (pretty much your choice other than no red). No bad taste to it, just tastes like Gatorade. Drink 8 oz every 30 minutes until the 64oz is gone starting late afternoon for next day morning procedure.

Along with that you take 2 5mg softener pills, again can't remember exactly what they were but they're just pills.

Then you have your Kindle where you can grab it when things kick in

10 years ago it was the same experience, IE Gatorade and no taste issues.

Procedure is very easy. Anesthetic once in the OR and it's lights out. Come out not knowing anything was done.

Now about 5 years before that I was still married and my wife had one done and at that time she got some kind of chalky crap and they wanted to do it with the patient awake. Anesthesia was an option insurance had to approve first.

It's not a powder, it's three 10 oz bottles of magnesium citrate and apparently it tastes awful no matter whether you get it flavored or drink it with other clear liquid. Tomorrow is my day before so I'll be on a clear liquid diet and drinking those bottles every couple of hours.

My wife told me to expect to work from my "second office" most of the day and to forget about trying to run (except to the bathroom).

The only thing I'm taking that matches your description is Miralax which dissolves into liquid and is tasteless. That's like a softener, I guess. But that's in addition to the crap I'll be drinking tomorrow. Yay me.

When I had my first one a long time ago, I had to mix something with Sprite. I haven't been able to drink Sprite ever since.

My latest a few months ago is was as Sweed said. Mix the powder with Gatorade, no red. It was much better.

Just searched my medicine cabinet and found the laxative pills were Dulcolax 5 mg. And Miralax sounds right for what went into the Gatorade. The pills it took me a bit to find as most were like 20mg + while I needed 5 mg. The 5's weren't directly next to the larger ones but once I had those I was set. These were the only two things I did other than the clear liquid diet.

Not a medical professional so have no idea why your doctor includes the magnesium citrate and mine did not?

In any case good luck with the procedure. At least it's just every 10 years

Pretty much anyone I've talked to about it said they had to drink the same thing and it was awful. I suppose it ensures a clean system. I guess it'll be worth a few pounds of weight loss. It'll be like a binge/purge of all of that Halloween candy I ate last night!

It is Miralax that you mix with the gatorade and I had to do it also. My 8 year old has to drink it every day. She has something called encopresis so we are very familiar with it

I just had someone like a tweet I made in January of 2016. Is that like posting in a thread that's been brought back from the dead without realizing it's a decade old?

More fun, sure. Less information though,

I'm done. Did it without anesthesia. Watched the whole thing on video. Nurse said most guys can handle it without and if I need it, they can stop and administer it right then, so I figured why get drugged up if I don't need it. It was uncomfortable and a few times I felt like a hose was going to pop through my bellybutton, but I wouldn't call it painful.

My upstairs neighbors were having constant, athletic, porno sex for like the first half of covid. It was theee worst. And thanks to the building design/apartment locations I was probably the only other person who got to enjoy it.

My building is pretty good with insulating noise. I had a neighbor next to me move out after six months and I never knew she had a baby.

We lived in an apartment basically for 2019 and 2020. We were kind of tired of being home owners for a bit.

Our upstairs neighbors for the first year were great. Never heard them. The second year, there was a mom, dad and kid. The dad was always yelling at both of them. The kid was always full on screaming crying. There were a few times where they would argue and dad would go stomping across the apartment and it would knock shit off of our walls.

We bought another house in Oct 2020.

We are leaning towards selling house and buying a cheaper condo/smaller house when we retire and kids are off on their own.

I remember now why I always hated apartments with all the neighbors' noise. I'll have to be sure to read reviews and speak to tenants in any condos we are considering. Still prefer condos over a smaller house because we'll be active travelling a lot. But now, maybe a townhouse instead with zero lot, in a gated community.

Not sure this is actually an actual useful comment or not, but what the hell.

The way you worded this made me think about the fantastic luck (and let's be real, that's probably what it is) that my son has had about living in Miami.

The condo he's in is so chill that he only recently discovered that a couple of units on the same floor of the building -- literally within a couple units on the same leg of a hallway -- were even occupied. He'd been there more than a year at that point. Now THAT are some chill ass neighbors afaic.

My point here being simply that what you seem to be looking for is possible, I wouldn't abandon hope in finding it too soon.

Are latchkey kids still a thing?

Not are there still kids who come home from school and are by themselves until their parents come home. I know that is still happening. I mean are we still losing our collective minds over the fact that kids are coming home school and are by themselves until their parents come home. I asked because my wife just got hit with a bit of judgement for leaving our 13 year old home by himself while my wife and I went out shopping.

That's stupid. We leave out 11 year old alone for a couple hours. He is mature for his age, has a phone, and knows where to run if something bad happened. He literally sits on the couch and plays roblox and I can see where he is on find my phone. It obviously depends on the kid, but IMO 13 is plenty old enough. We have even left his 8 year old sister with him, for a very short amount of time, for parent teacher conference, etc...

Agree with Lathum here. It wasn't long ago that 13 yr olds were considered the entry point for babysitting jobs.

That is a strange judgment. I wonder if it was more of a he may be looking at porn while you are away sort of thing (because they don't do that in their rooms while you are in the house or anything). Because 13 year olds can definitely take care of themselves for a few hours.

It depends on the maturity of the kid, but in general 13 is plenty old enough to be home for hours alone.

I just got a refund for a concert ticket I bought for March of 2020 that I had completely forgotten about. I was supposed to go to Phoenix for a conference and saw that Devin Townsend (and a couple of other acts, I don't even remember who now) were there at the same time, so I bought a ticket. Completely forgot about it. Apparently it got rescheduled a couple of times and the 2022 date it got re-re-rescheduled for got cancelled the other day.

So hey, $35 back in my pocket for a show I wasn't going to be able to see anyway!

We are like that with the 8 year old. We also have a ring doorbell and I get an alert when there is motion so I would know if someone was at the door or in the yard, etc..

Alex Ovechkin has scored on 18% of the goalies to ever suit up in the NHL.

My kid was at the game in Miami last night, among his comments to me was this: "I've realized that he really is the best hockey player I've ever seen in person"

fwiw, the most likely eligible comparable for him would be Crosby.

I looked at his stats recently when it was mentioned that his next contract could see him pass Gretzky for goals scored. Which I thought was crazy. But, he very well might. What struck me is that Ovechkin at some point -- probably about a decade ago -- just stopped notching assists. I mean, I know the game has changed, but putting up 50 goes and fewer than 30 assists for three straight years (with only 21 in one of them)? I mean, he's over 1300 assists behind #99.

I mean, Ovechkin hasn't put up a 100-point season since 2009-2010. McDavid has done it four of the last five.

I don't go to many hockey games. Haven't been in a few years and before that, on average, 1 game a year. So I can't exactly compare him to many other players, but I did see Ovechkin play once and he was obviously the best player on the ice and it wasn't close. It's hard to see such disparity in skill on TV.

So I had an odd encounter with a nurse practitioner at Little Clinic this morning. I went in because I'm struggling with allergies (ears filled with liquid, cough, tightness in the chest, etc.). She's going through the checklist asking me questions and when she gets to occupation and I say attorney, she goes, "Oh I wish I didn't know that," and I laughed because, you know, attorneys suck.

I purposely came in only a couple of days after symptoms showed up because I know how this goes - I get this once or twice a year during fall/winter/spring, and the last time I had it, it lasted 6 weeks. I'm having surgery in 3 weeks so I can't afford to be sick. Not to mention, with Covid, you cough once and everyone thinks you should be locked in your house. I didn't sleep well the last 2 nights and kept my wife up with my coughing, so I need to knock this shit out quickly.

So she examines me and basically says that I'm not infected yet and that she can't give me antibiotics because it's too early according to the protocols she is working with, and she gives me a list of stuff I can take in the meantime and that if I'm still not feeling well in another week, she'll call in the antibiotic so that I'm good for my surgery.

I was totally fine with that answer. And that's when it got weird, because she basically told me the reason she didn't feel comfortable going against the protocols is that I'm an attorney and she wouldn't be able to legally justify her decision to violate protocols if questioned.

So, me being an attorney apparently is keeping me from taking antibiotics that she would have given to a truck driver with my exact same symptoms. WTF? I'm guessing she's been sued before, or been part of some lawsuit and is scared of attorneys. Just odd.

I had a tooth pulled 6-7 months ago. Finally had the implant put in this morning. I am eating for the first time with it and I feel like I am using someone elses mouth.

Should have written up a quick "I won't sue you" contract on the spot.

It's depressing to realize I'm closer to 60 than I am to 30 now.

I'm closer to 70 than 30. But I'm still youthful. No worries here.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story, part 43,591...

You've probably seen the story about a girl who was rescued from an adult who had kidnapped her when someone on I-75 in southern KY called 911 when he noticed her making a hand signal popularized on TikTok. Well, it's been a running story here for several days for obvious reasons, but from listening to an interview with the guy who called 911, he had no idea what the hand signal meant. She was, however, mouthing 'help me' which is why he called.

My 11 year old wants to try fencing. Did an introductory lesson today and he seemed to enjoy it but wasn't over the top enthusiastic.

Long story short between membership to the facility and lessons it would be $900/month. Insanity.

Well if it's a good fencing class then your kid should be able to score more than $900/month right?
