Stars of the Future - a TCY/FOF dynasty

This will be a new dynasty along the lines of my last one, Run and Gun. This time I decided to break up the positions a bit, we'll have a couple of running backs, a great looking wide receiver, a QB, and a sharp looking DE. Will they find success in the college ranks and in the NFL?

Our players in the 2004 college recruiting season:

Joe Coffin, 6'4” 212 Wide Receiver – Covington, KY

Joe has the size already to be a great receiver, and he is the second ranked high school player in all the land. His high school has great prep, and he is best at yardage after the catch. Even our lousy scout reports he is 70/100, and he is probably better than that. He values Team Prestige and Academics, though he is struggling in school right now and his test score is marginal. So far in high school ball he has 855 receiving yards in 4 games.

How good is Joe? The next best receiver is ranked #55 in the country. It's fairly rare in my experience to see a WR ranked so highly, so it should be interesting to see what he can do.

Antoine Syvrud, 6'2” 241 Defensive End – Lynnwood, WA

Antoine is the fourth ranked player this year, and looks to be a dominant pass rusher. He has good grades, values academics and prestige, and our Terrific scout ranks him at 94/100, with a strength in rushing the passer. So far in high school ball, in 4 games he has 42 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He looks like he will be a force in college.

Eric Quinones, 6'1” 217 Running Back – Kirbyville, TX

Eric is the 7th ranked high school player in the country. He's an excellent back with a knack for a burst to gain extra yardage. Our excellent scout rates him 90/100. Eric is really focused on a solid athletic school and wants to stay close to home. Obviously the Texas colleges will be all over him. In high school ball, in four games he has 127 carries for 954 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Kevin Linquist, 5'11” 188 Running Back – Oakwood, GA

Kevin is the 8th ranked high school player in the country, following Eric closely. Our excellent scout ranks him at 84/100, and says that he's a great breakaway runner. Kevin has excellent grades and wants a good academic school that's not too far away. In high school ball in four games he has 111 carries for 795 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Lamont Nowell, 6'5” 214 Quarterback – Fredericksburg, TX

Lamont is the tenth ranked player in the country and the best quarterback. This year is particularly weak for quarterbacks, as there are only three ranked in the top 50, so Lamont may see some heavy competition. Our excellent scout rates him at 75/100. He wants a great academic school and in fact he's made it known that he idolizes Texas. In high school ball in four games he's passed for 465 yards and four touchdowns, and has rushed for 584 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Recruiting – Two Weeks into the season

Joe Coffin, WR

Joe is tearing up his high school opponents, he is averaging more than 24 yards a catch! He has offers from Florida State, Miami, and Michigan, and is considering them all at this point.

Antoine Syvrud, DE

Antoine has tacked on several more sacks in his last two games. He has offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and interest from UCLA.

Eric Quinones, RB

Erik is up to 1,365 yards on the season in 6 games. He has offers from Illinois, Michigan, Purdue, and Texas A&M, and is considering all of them.

Kevin Linquist, RB

Kevin is up to 1,292 yards on the year. He is already visiting Georgia, which may be a natural fit for him since he grew up only 30 miles away. He is considering offers from UCLA and Miami, as well.

Lamont Nowell

Lamont continues to run more than pass for his high school team. He has an offer from Texas, his favorite team, and is visiting them. He has offers from Florida and Ohio State but I will be surprised if he goes anywhere but Texas.

Recruiting – Four Weeks into the season

Joe Coffin, WR

In 8 games Joe has an incredible 1,948 receiving yards and ten touchdowns. He also plays defense. He is currently visiting Florida State and Michigan, and has offers from several other top schools.

Antoine Syvrud, DE

Antoine is visiting UCLA and Michigan, and considering offers from Ohio State, Alabama, and other schools.

Eric Quinones, RB

Eric is visiting Texas A&M and Oklahoma, and I think he'll commit to one of those two schools. He's also being courted by Cal, Illinois, Michigan, and other schools. He ended the high school year with 1,799 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns.

Kevin Linquist, RB

Kevin is still visiting only Georgia, and considering offers from UCLA and Miami. He ended the year with 1,638 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Lamont Nowell, QB

Lamont is visiting Oklahoma and Texas. He has 711 passing yards on the year, with 7 touchdowns and no interceptions. He rushed for 861 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Recruiting – Six Weeks into the season

Joe Coffin, WR

Joe is keeping his options open so far. He is visiting Florida, Florida State, Michigan, and Ohio State.

Antoine Syvrud, DE

Antoine is visiting Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, and UCLA at this time.

Eric Quinones, RB

Eric is visiting Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M. It seems the same several schools are heavily recruting all our players.

Kevin Linquist, RB

Kevin is visiting Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Miami at this point.

Lamont Nowell, QB - Texas

To no one's surprise, Lamont committed to Texas, his favorite school.

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Our terrific scout puts Joe at 52/98, and he will be redshirted this year. Miami has a pretty light roster of receivers though, so an injury might bring him into play. He's already the second best receiver they have at the moment.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine is being redshirted this year. Our decent scout puts him at 20/100, and Texas has a ton of talent at defensive end. One of their best will graduate this year, but Antoine will have his work cut out for him in making the starting lineup over the next few years.

Eric Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

Eric will play this year, as he's already very solid at 57/81. The Aggies have several talented running backs, so he may not start this year. Their best, Neal Heath, is currently suffering from an ongoing hamstring issue. He and Eric are certainly the best in terms of upside.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Our very good scout puts Kevin at 37/69. He's not going to be redshirted this season. He's definitely the highest potential runner the Jackets have, so he has a chance to start this year, or at least put up some yards.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont has been redshirted, he definitely needs some development time. Our excellent scout puts him at 27/82, he's got a lot of upside. Texas does have an excellent senior QB in Matthew Rogers, who will start this year.

2005 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe remained redshirted all year. Miami finished the season undefeated but then lost to Tennessee in the championship game.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine remained redshirted all season. Texas went 12-1 and smashed Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

Eric Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

Erik was given the bulk of the carries this year, with Neal Heath taking a backup role. He ground out 789 yards on 188 carries, with 4 touchdowns. He also caught 15 passes for 175 yards and another touchdown. All in all, this was good enough for him to be named B12 Top Offensive Freshman!

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Kevin was given the starting job from Day 1, which makes sense as he's a talented player who has nowhere to go but up. He had a good year running the ball, with 210 carries for 1175 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also added 213 yards and 2 touchdowns receiving. He was named ACC Top Offensive Freshman! Definitely a nice start to his college career.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont remained redshirted all year.

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe is ready to go. Our scout rates him at 70/99 already, and this puts him in Miami's top three receivers. The other two will graduate after this year, opening the field for Joe.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine enters his redshirt freshman year rated at 51/100 by our scout. He also caught a break, as Texas' top DE, Carl Emmons, has been declared academically ineligible this year. Right now Antoine looks like their second best player so he may be able to start.

Eric Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

After his year of play last year, Eric has developed completely. Our scouts show him at 83/87, and there's no question he'll be starting for the Aggies this year, and probably every year.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Kevin has developed nicely after his excellent season last year, he is rated at 64/69 and is by far the best back Tech has.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont enters his first playing year rated at 26/82 by our scout. He'll be competing with two other players, one is a solid 43/43 and the other is 29/73. It's hard to read which one they'll go with. The Longhorns also added another top QB prospect who is redshirting this year. All in all, Lamont will have to really work and develop to get a shot here.

2006 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe got a lot of playing time this year as the third WR and was a big part of Miami's attack. He ended up with 40 catches for 588 yards, and 5 touchdowns. He also returned kicks and punts.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine started all year at DE. The Longhorns were eager to see what this highly touted lineman could do, and they weren't disappointed. He rocked opposing quarterbacks, racking up 16.5 sacks (which led the nation!), 33 tackles, and 23 assists on the season. He was rewarded by being named B12 1st Team Defensive End!

Eric Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

Last year Eric started but didn't get the ball too often, this year the Aggies based their whole attack on him toting the rock. He rewarded them by blowing up with a huge season, 2161 yards on 384 carries, and 20 touchdowns! He also had 560 yards and 2 touchdowns receiving. This huge year meant that he was considered for the Heisman award, but didn't get it. He did get named [2nd Team All-American Running Back, B12 Top Offensive Player, and B12 1st Team RB.[/b] Quite an amazing year.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Kevin started again this year, though he struggled with a knee injury that cost him some starts. In eight games, he ended up with 182 carries for 849 yards, with 4 touchdowns. He also had 28 catches for 187 yards and another touchdown. Definitely a down year from last year but when he's healthy, his coaches think he'll rebound.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont played as a backup this season and barely saw the field. He completed 6 of 11 passes for 70 yards. Texas went undefeated going into the championship game, but suffered a bruising loss to USC.

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe has really bloomed with his play last year and is currently scouted 89/99. He'll be Miami's top receiver this year.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine is rated 75/100 by our scout, and is the top DE for Texas after his excellent season last year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

Erik is ranked 89/89 by our scout and is ready for another great season running the ball for the Aggies.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Kevin is scouted at 78/78, and will try to rebound from last season's relatively poor performance.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont will play backup again this year, as Tracy Binkley will be throwing again for Texas. Our scout rates him 29/82, he has a lot of learning to do.

2007 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe struggled with injuries this year, and only started 7 games, where he recorded 30 catches for 411 yards and four touchdowns. This is really disappointing as he seemed ready for a huge year this time around.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine proved this year, that if anything, last year was an off year. He continued to dominate Big 12 opponents, and was much more involved in the running game this season. His sacks dropped a bit, to 13, but he doubled his tackle total from last year, to 66, and had 14 assists. He was named All-American 1st Team Defensive End and B12 1st Team Defensive End. At this point he's setting the standard for great play in a college end. He is currently struggling with Tobacco Withdrawal Syndrome, but it didn't cost him any playing time this year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

Erik had another good year this year, but wasn't as effective as last season. He didn't get as many carries but he still carved up opposing defenses. Still, he ended up with 328 carries for 1517 yards, and 16 touchdowns. He's just a great player and a joy to watch. He was named B12 2nd Team Running Back.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Kevin proved himself with flying colors this year, in his best college year. He had 302 carries for 1600 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground, and added another 408 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns. He was named ACC 1st Team Running Back.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont didn't make the field at all this year.

This will be the last season for some of our players.

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe is clearly Miami's best receiver, scouted 88/100, but for one reason or another he has yet to make a really huge impact. If he can stay healthy this year hopefully he can rack up the yards. Unfortunately Miami doesn't have a solid QB this year, so this will hurt him.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine is scouted at 79/84 and will hopefully continue his dominant play.

Erik Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

This will be Erik's last year in college and he's hoping to make it a good one.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

It's Kevin's senior year and he's ready to go, and will try to top last year's standout performance.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont will struggle to get any starting time this year. Our scout puts him at 30/57, and he's competing against several players with higher upside. I guess we'll see.

2008 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe had his best year yet this year, and really showed some of the talent he so obviously has. He ended up with 57 catches for 900 yards and 5 touchdowns. Still his counterpart Heath Givens had a much better year, with 90 catches for 1334 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine continued his excellent play this year, racking up 14 sacks, 61 tackles, and 25 assists. He was again named B12 1st Team Defensive End, an award he seems to have locked up every year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Texas A&M

Erik had a good senior year, and not a great one, mostly because he shared a substantial amount of carries with the backup RB Harris Grimm. Erik ended up with 251 carries for 1259 yards, and 7 touchdowns. Grimm got 113 carries for 570 yards and 6 scores. Still, Erik has to be pretty happy with his college career, and is looking forward to the pros.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Georgia Tech

Kevin finished off his senior year with another good performance, though just as in 2006, injuries limited his playing time, to just 9 games. He ended up with 213 carries for 1069 yards, and 9 touchdowns. He added 31 catches for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns receiving.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont was the backup this year, and completed 3 of 5 passes for 43 yards, with an interception. Clearly he's just not developed enough to get the starting job.

Erik and Kevin are going pro, and our other players will have their senior year this year.

NFL Players

Erik Quinones, RB –

Erik was highly touted coming into the draft, and there's no doubt he's the best running back available. He's graded at 6.7 and looks to have the total package, decent speed and power, can find a hole, has good hands, and can run routes. He runs a 4.59 Dash and is pegged at very low volatility. Overall he looks like a certain top 5 pick.

He was picked by the New Orleans Saints with the #3 overall pick.

Here's how he looks after training camp. Personally I'd be really worried by a player like this if he was on my team, he's highly scouted but a lot of it is coming from endurance. Nonetheless he will start this year.

Kevin Linquist, RB –

Kevin is a bit harder to judge. The scouts have brought his grade down to 4.9, mostly because he lacks pass catching ability and power. He has plenty of speed though, and has a great breakaway burst. He's the third fastest RB in the draft with a 4.49 dash, and has a very high volatility. Personally he looks like a seriously underrated player and I think he's going to make some team very happy.

Kevin was drafted by San Francisco in the 4th round.

Here's how he looks after training camp. Good speed makes him look like a platooning type back to rest the heavy duty guy.

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Good news for Joe, Heath Givens, Miami's other good WR who racked up the yards last year, is on academic probation this year. Joe's pretty much the only option this year, and should have no excuse for not having a good year.

Antoine Syvrud, DE – Texas

Antoine is ready to rock again this year.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont is currently scouted at 43/57, which is quite an improvement, but our scout isn't that good, so this is highly questionable. Again, Texas is in the same spot as last year, several QBs, none of whom look particularly sharp. Jackie Devine has upside and started last year, I bet he'll start again this year.

NFL Players

Erik Quinones, RB – New Orleans

Erik had a solid opening year for the Saints. He started every game, and finished with 279 carries for 1170 yards, with 5 touchdowns. New Orleans is a terrible team, finishing 2-14 this year, and they were often getting blown out, which limited his carries, With a better team he could have put up some really outstanding numbers.

Kevin Linquist, RB – San Francisco

Kevin fit into the role I imagined, backup and platoon back for the 49ers main runner, Cary Weese. Weese had a dominant 1600+ yard season this year, and Kevin got some runs as well, finishing with 111 carries for 448 yards and 2 touchdowns. The 49ers were the second best running team in the league this year, so it's a good way for Kevin to get some quality carries and try to develop a bit more.

College Players

Joe Coffin, WR - Miami

Joe had his best year, and won his first award, but he was still disappointed in his performance. He had 55 catches for 960 yards and 8 touchdowns, and was named ACC 1st Team Wide Receiver. With disappointing stats every year, he's anxious to put college behind him and make the move to the NFL.

Final stats:

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texas

Antoine was sidelined by a hip pointer at the end of the season but otherwise was as good as ever, finishing the year with 15 sacks, 49 tackles, 20 assists, and of course was named B12 1st Team Defensive End. Four straight years of that trophy. It's no question that the NFL scouts are all over him. He is second in total career sacks, missing the record by one.

His final stats:

Lamont Nowell, QB – Texas

Lamont was definitely the third backup this year, as Jackie Devine got hurt, but he still never got to play. He had 7 of 11 passes this year for 63 yards.

Here are his final stats, such as they are. He never started a game.

It's draft time for three of our players, which will make the grade? Coffin and Syvrud seem like locks to me.

Joe Coffin, WR -

While Joe was unhappy with his college career, at draft time he's the star everyone expected. He's the top WR of the draft by a large margin, rated at 6.6. He's got blazing speed, running a 4.31 dash, and is the second fastest player in the draft overall. His only downsides are courage and third down catching, Coffin is a burner, made for the long pass and the big play. He'll be a top 10 pick most likely.

Joe ended up in a year where a lot of the top teams didn't need receivers. He was picked at #12 overall by Indianapolis.

Antoine Syvrud, DE -

Antoine is scouted at 6.1 for the draft, the second best DE available. He's not so great against the run but top notch against the pass, with great play diagnosis and endurance. Teams should know what they're getting with him, a pass rusher through and through. He's a certain first round pick, probably top 10.

Antoine ended up going at #4 to the Houston Texans.

Lamont Nowell, QB –

With quarterbacks who don't start, you never know if they'll come into the draft great or not. In this case, it's clear Lamont doesn't have the talent that was expected out of high school and certainly isn't an NFL talent. He's rated at 3.7, far down the QB list, and won't be drafted. He's got good timing and is a scrambler, so it's possible he could see a backup position somewhere, but I wouldn't bet on it. He's about one step from football oblivion.

To my surprise, Lamont was picked up by the Jets in preseason. It looks like he'll be their third backup, unless they decide to release him.

Erik Quinones, RB – New Orleans

Erik is ready for another year running the ball for the Saints. He's scouted at 66/72 and showed that he can play last year. New Orleans had the #1 pick and added top QB prospect Antoine Linquist, who once he develops, should provide a solid base for the team to build on.

Kevin Linquist, RB – San Francisco

Kevin is scouted at 37/52 going into the year. Surprisingly, the 49ers released Cary Weese in the offseason. Kevin waited for the other shoe to drop, but they didn't sign another back in the draft or free agency. Right now it looks like he'll be the starter.

Joe Coffin, WR - Colts

Joe was named as the starting receiver for the Colts this year. Unfortunately he suffered a foot injury in Week 2 that kept him on the bench for almost half the season. He ended up starting 9 games and catching 39 passes for 590 yards and 6 touchdowns. He was also a very solid kick and punt returner for the team.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine was the starting RDE for the Texans, and played well but was not as dominant as many had hoped. He was out for two games with a groin injury but in 14 starts he had 19 tackles, 10 assists, and 4.5 sacks.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik was the starting runner for the Saints again this year. He struggled through two knee injuries but managed to start all 16 games, and ran the ball 295 times for 1219 yards and 5 touchdowns. This was very consistent with last years numbers, and the Saints are satisfied.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

The 49ers continued to be an amazing running team this year. Their primary runner was newly acquired RB Trent Burden, who racked up 1422 yards and 10 touchdowns. Kevin, as the platoon RB, was equally impressive with 803 yards on 177 carries, and 10 touchdowns.

Lamont Nowell, QB – Jets

Lamont saw the field in one game this year, and completed one pass for 14 yards, and had an interception. This might be his only playing time in the NFL.

Joe Coffin, WR - Colts

Joe remains with the Colts, and our scout rates him at 49/75. He's ready to go for another year.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine is being moved to the left side after the departure of the Texans veteran LDE. He's scouted at 53/62 and should be primed to show what he can do this year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik is scouted at 59/72 and is ready for another year with the Saints. He was resigned to a 5 year, $18.8 million contract.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

Kevin is scouted at 47/56. Right now it looks like he'll be carrying the whole load for the Niners this year. They have a great offensive line so he is looking forward to proving himself as a starter.

Lamont Nowell, QB –

Lamont was released by the Jets and is a free agent. He's unlikely to find another team.

2011 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Colts

Joe is unfortunately proving himself to be injury prone. He suffered from elbow and ribcage injuries this year that again limited him to 9 games. Even in those games he struggled with injuries, and ended up with only a meager 24 catches for 322 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine seems to be having trouble adjusting to the NFL passing game. He was again hampered this year by nagging groin injuries and was very ineffective in the pass rush. In 12 starts he had 16 tackles, 10 assists, and half a sack, though he did get 3 QB knockdowns.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik remains money in the bank for the Saints, having his best season yet, with 315 carries for 1411 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

Kevin was the starter all year, and he proved able to handle the whole load, carrying the ball 346 times for 1550 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led the 49ers to a 13-3 season and then on to a Super Bowl victory!

Lamont Nowell, QB –

Lamont waited all year for the phone to ring.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine is scouted at 62/62 and is ready to start for another year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik is scouted at 60/72 and is ready for another starting year.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

Kevin is scouted at 52/56 and will be the starting runner for the defending champion 49ers.

Lamont Nowell, QB –

Lamont retired and has started his own real estate business.

2012 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Colts

Joe was able to avoid the injury problems of the last two years and have a decent season, with 63 catches for 976 yards and 9 touchdowns. He continues to be an excellent return man. The Colts went 13-3 and barely missed going to the Super Bowl this year.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine suffered a foot injury in Week 13 that cost him the rest of the season, but he was doing very well before that. Thanks to a tougher training regimen and a changed playbook, he was again dominant in the backfield, recording 28 tackles, 9 assists, and 10 sacks, along with 18 hurries and 9 QB knockdowns.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik had fewer carries this year than his previous seasons but still ran the ball well, ending up with 258 carries for 1111 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

Kevin split the carries with backup Randal Aguirre but still got the bulk of them, running 289 times for 1212 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Joe Coffin, WR - Colts

Joe is ready to start another year with the Colts.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine wants to bounce back from his injury this year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik will start again for the Saints.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

Kevin should start again this year.

2013 Season End

Joe Coffin, WR - Colts

Joe played well, but watched the Colts fall to a measly 8-8 record this year. He broke the 1000 mark for the first time with 62 catches for 1076 yards, and 7 touchdowns.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Houston struggled this year, ending up at 7-9. Antoine played very well for them though, and started every game, recording 44 tackles, 14 assists, and 9.5 sacks.

Erik Quinones, RB – Saints

Erik went down hard with a knee injury in Week 2, which ended up costing him 5 starts. He recovered fully, and ran well, scoring an impressive 9 touchdowns in only 161 carries for 688 yards. New Orleans was a miserable 3-13 this year.

Kevin Linquist, RB – 49ers

The 49ers went 10-6 on the year but were bounced out of the playoffs quickly. He showed real consistency this year, putting up nearly identical numbers to last season, 298 carries, 1262 yards, and 8 touchdowns. He's really surprising me with his ability to carry the load as an NFL back.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Joe's contract was up, and he made it clear he wanted to go somewhere else. He ended up in Atlanta, signing a huge 6 year, $59 million deal.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine was the only one of our players to stay with his team, but he did sign a new 4 year, $43 million deal.

Erik Quinones, RB – Cowboys

The Saints took RB Rod Sampson as the #1 overall pick in the draft, so Erik had to go. He was released, but soon signed with Dallas on a 5 year, $25 million contract.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Falcons

Kevin was released by the 49ers, who wanted to go in a new direction. He ended up signed by the Falcons on a one year deal. Will he and Joe be able to play well together?

2014 Season End

What a year! This season saw Atlanta, powered by two of our players, win the Super Bowl, giving Joe a ring and Kevin his second ring.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Joe made a big impact with the Falcons, recording 70 catches for 1051 yards and 10 touchdowns. Unfortunately he was injured at the start of the playoffs and barely got to contribute to their run to the Super Bowl.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine is really becoming a dominant end in the league, he recorded 43 tackles, 14 assists, and 12 sacks on the year as Houston again went 10-6 and again left the playoffs quickly.

Erik Quinones, RB – Cowboys

Eric had a solid year for the Cowboys, and set a career record in touchdowns with 13. He had 1161 yards on 292 carries. He also had a receiving touchdown. Dallas went 9-7 and just missed the playoffs.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Falcons

Kevin moved to a new team and blasted off with a career year, recording 1534 yards on 312 carries, for 15 touchdowns. The Falcons went 12-4 but then stormed through the playoffs behind Kevin's running to take it all.

Jacksonville edged Seattle in the Super Bowl this year, and both were wild card teams, which seems very unusual.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Atlanta QB Philip May threw for almost 4000 yards this season, and Joe got 1446 of them, along with 13 touchdowns, to have a career year. He's really establishing himself as a top flight receiver, and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time, as a 2nd team starter.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine suffered two knee injuries this year that limited his playing time to 11 starts, and he had trouble punching through the line with his knee problem. He ended up with four sacks, 23 tackles ,adn 10 assists.

Erik Quinones, RB – Cowboys

Erik was hampered by injuries all year, first a knee injury, then a dislocated elbow at the end of the year that put him on the IR list. They didn't stop him from putting up his usual numbers though, with 1126 yards, but only 4 touchdowns.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Seahawks

The Falcons named Linquist their franchise player, then released him. He signed with Seattle on a one year deal. Kevin continues to be a very underrated player, he never gets the big contracts but he always racks up the yard with his blazing speed. This year he ran 339 times for 1416 yards and twelve touchdowns to propel the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, which they lost.

Carolina beat Kansas City in the Super Bowl, 27-10. By the way, Kansas City signed a nice rookie running back last year with one of the best names I've ever seen in FOF – Rioting Ray Vamos.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Joe really cashed in, being re-signed by the Falcons to a five year, $45 million contract before the season. He had a good season, though a bit off from last year's numbers, since 15 year veteran May is starting to fade a bit. Joe had 1183 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine missed two starts at the beginning of the year with an injury, but otherwise had a very good season, with 10.5 sacks, 36 tackls, and 5 assists.

Erik Quinones, RB – Cowboys

During the offseason, team trainers started to get very worried about Erik. He just wasn't making the clean cuts he always used to. It looks like his injuries of last year have taken a permanent toll on him. He still ran well this year, but a lot of that may have been the Cowboys' excellent offensive line. He had 308 carries for 1242 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Panthers

Kevin was released by the Seahawks and signed by Carolina on a one-year deal. At this point he's got to be the best bargain deal in the league. Are you noticing a pattern? Sign Kevin, go to the Super Bowl, as the last three years his team has gone to the big game, and won it twice. Kevin had 1224 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns this year for the Panthers. Won't someone give him a nice contract?

Green Bay defeats Tennessee in the Super Bowl, 27-21.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Joe continues to be money in the bank, catching 75 passes for 1236 yards and 9 touchdowns this season.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine had some trouble getting to the quarterback but he had a good year in stopping the run, ending up with 40 tackles, 7 assists, and 5.5 sacks.

Erik Quinones, RB – Cowboys

Erik's skills have diminished to the point that he wasn't the starting runner for the Cowboys, and in fact he wasn't used much, getting only 80 carries for 287 yards and four touchdowns. It looks like his career is almost over.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Packers

Kevin continued his pattern, signing with the Packers for another one year deal. His skills are fading a bit but he still has the breakaway speed which is what racks up the yardage. And again, his streak continues, the Packers acquire Kevin, they win the Super Bowl this year. Kevin now has four championship rings with four different teams. Kevin was not the starter, however, but he backed up RB Colin Dodge well, running 156 times for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Philadelphia trounces the Dolphins in the Super Bowl this year, so Kevin's streak is broken.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

QB Bucky Hatton took over for the Falcons this year (even though he's a ten year veteran) and had an average year throwing the ball. Joe still put up the numbers though, catching 80 passes for 1094 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Falcons signed him for two more years for $22 million.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

The Texans re-arranged their defensive line schemes to focus more on Antoine this year, and he responded with a great season and his first Pro Bowl nod. He had 12 sacks, 45 tackls, and 13 assists on the year.

Erik Quinones, RB – Texans

Erik was released by the Cowboys but signed by Houston as a backup. At least he didn't have far to move! He carried the ball 131 times for 466 yards. He's getting close to 10,000 career rushing yards, he needs less than 200 to get there.

Kevin Linquist, RB – Colts

Kevin goes to the Colts this year on a two year deal. He's wearing down but it looks like he has a few good years left. He started seven games for the Colts before a knee injury sidelined him for the season. He ended up with 95 carriers for 540 yards and four touchdowns.

Well, Linquist is 5th in career rushing yards with 10,719, and Erik isn't far behind with 9,881. Kevin is third in career rushing touchdowns with 93, Erik only has 72. Joe Coffin has 566 catches for 8,974 yards and 66 touchdowns. Antoine has 68.5 career sacks which puts him about 15th on that list.

Overall it's pretty interesting to watch Kevin, a fourth round pick who didn't look that good to start with, has really become a great player.

Kansas City took down St. Louis, 35-24 in the Super Bowl, powered by Rioting Ray Vamos who capped an exciting fourth quarter by first throwing for a touchdown, then running 46 yards for another one.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Even at 32, Joe Coffin won the league's fastest man title. Way to go, Joe. He was doing fine this year until in Week 14 he ruptured his elbow tendon, knocking him out for the season. He had 64 catches for 860 yards and four touchdowns in his shortened year.

Antoine Syvrud, DE - Texans

Antoine is really getting battered now, as he suffered a head injury and two knee injuries this year. These kept him out of the starting lineup for all but 5 games of the season, but he managed to record 5 sacks, 23 tackles, and 9 assists.

Erik Quinones, RB –

Some though Erik would retire, but he really wants to get to that 10,000 rushing yards mark. In the end it didn't matter as he couldn't find a team to take him on and he remained a free agent. It could be over for him.

Kevin Linquist, RB –

Kevin was released by the Colts and was not re-signed this year. It looks like this may be the end of his career.

As expected by many, both Erik and Kevin retired this year. Erik was Player of the Game 6 times, Player of the Week mentioned 31 times, and ended up just short of 10,000 career rushing yards. He turned out to not be the dominant force some thought when he was drafted, but he was a very reliable runner, knocking in 1100 or more yards every year as a starter except when he was hurt.

Kevin ended up with four championship rings, player of the game 6 times, and mentioned in the Player of the Week lists 56 times. His 10,719 rushing yards mark him as one of the best running backs in the league over the past several years. Underrated at first, moving from team to team, his speed assured that he racked up big yards.

The Giants beat the Jets this year in a New York Super Bowl, 27-20.

Joe Coffin, WR - Falcons

Joe's injuries and his age have really taken a toll on his ability. He caught only 46 passes this year for 807 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is still taking a big chunk of Atlanta's cap so I wouldn't be surprised to see him get released.

Antoine Syvrud, DE -

Houston released Antoine in the off-season, and he struggled to find another team. He was signed briefly by Tennessee then released. He remained a free agent the rest of the season.

Antoine Syvrud announced his retirement this year. A solid if not excellent player, he stayed with the Texans his entire career, and was player of the game 8 times, Player of the Week twice, and got 28 mentions on the PotW list. He ends up as 2nd in sacks, hurries, and blocks for the Texans.

Miami beat Tampa Bay in the Super Bowl, 38-31.

Joe Coffin, WR – Saints

Joe was released by the Falcons and signed a one-year contract with the Saints. He had 30 catches for 526 yards and three touchdowns this year.

Joe called it a career that off-season, ending the saga of all our players. He had one championship ring, was named player of the game twice, had 43 PotW mentions, and was a Pro Bowler in 2018 and League's Fastest Man in 2019. He had a great career, though he wanted to play a bit longer, it just didn't happen.

Great read, I always appreciated this type of "dynasty". Maybe you could sim a few more years to see if any of them enters the hall of Fame.
