Prestige goes from 43->46, a great start. Our AD apparently will be patient early with his demands, we just need to avoid last place this year, and the board is delighted with the results so far. the training facilities get a nice jump from 37->43, still 11th place in the 12 team conference. Job Offers Damn, it migth not take too terribly long to get that ACC job, just need it to open up. This year we get offers all over the place... Missouri, Minnesota, UGA, Depaul, Baylor, Arizona State, Oklahoma. We turn them all down Incoming Recruits Our recruiting class is 69th in the nation. That's good for 4th in the A-10, with Dayton/George Washington and St Joseph's pulling in better classes. Code:
Warren doesn't come in quite as good as scouted in the ball handling department, but he'll be a good fit in our system nonetheless. Code:
Oh geeze. Dropping from an A to a C in handling? Well, he'll get a lot of steals and will surely start as a freshman but he'll likely be a bench player by the time he graduates. I need guys better than this to win in the A-10. Code:
Riiight, another recruit drops in handling from hwo he was scouted. Brown and Armbruster look almost exactly alike. A major disappointment. Coaches We lose our recruiter and assistant. We get a more balanced assistant, 61 defense/50 offense for 100K, and a 60 skill recruiter for 90K. Scheduling No change in the scheduling. Lets keep that prestige from dropping if we struggle in conference play. Training/Budget no training improvements this year, unfortunately. Recruiting We have 3 scholarships avaliable this year, and $15,194/mo to spend. We have a number of Very High/High interest players and we contact many of them. I'd like to land one good big man and one good steals guy and one wild card(whatever I can find). I'm fairly concerned going into November because some of my targets only have 'Average' interest. I'm worried about losing everyone to higher schools, and end up shocked to find that all three sign in november and my job is essentially done for the season. Code:
Lawyer scouts extremely well. I don't think he'll be this good because of his stats, he doesn't have a ton of rebounds and isn't the best shooter. Hopefully he'll at least show up with B's in most of the areas. Code:
Trudeau won't be much of a scorer but I wouldn't be opposed at all to a defensive specialist in the backcourt. Code:
Falkner is a bit better shooter than Trudeau, and in addition a defensive specialist. My tradition of bringing in average-at-best ball handlers continues, but these two guys in the backcourt for Fordham will be very hard to score on. Results We are not nealry as good this year. We go 9-3 out of conference and are clearly not very good this year. Our conference season goes terribly, and we fail to meet our goal, we finish in last place in the A-10. Code:

We take a slight drop in prestige from 46->44, still up from when I took the team over. Our AD remains delighted with us and we just need to avoid last place. Maybe we can do that w/ our freshmen this year? Job Offers Well. Quote:
I'm a level 5 coach. 45 recruiting, 15 scouting, 45 offense, 95 defense. That's really my only concern here. Georgia Tech has the second lowest prestige in the ACC. They have a top recruiting class and some solid young post players. I look through the rest of the coaches in the ACC... 3 jobs are open(Clemson, Virginia, Georgia Tech). I'd be the worst coach in the conference but mainly because of scouting. My 45 in recruiting is a bit low compared to the lower teams in the conference, but not by a ton, and 45 offense/95 defense is actually pretty solid. Well, I said at the beginning of this dynasty that I planned on working my way to the top. Coach firing is on b/c if I fail I want to be forced to work my way back up again. Another reason I take this job now is that I really haven't gotten to follow the careers and progression of a signifigant group of players yet. I've really had one good recruiting class at each school and that's been enough to push me up to the next level. This is the school I stay at, the school I take to 100 prestige and national titles. Colella can score some and will be nice to have while I work my own players into the lineup. I do like his rebounding for a SF. Coaches I keep all my coaches for this year. Recruiting We have 3 scholarships available this year and we're in the perfect situation with 3 young big men to put steals guys around them. Because I didn't upgrade my coaches(a mistake I'm sure now, wasn't thikning about it at the time), we have $29,600/mo to spend on recruits. We land one guy in the initial signing period, ranked #229 overall and somewhat of a risk. Our last two recruits are in the low 100s range and sign with me in December. Code:

Angell is a solid looking player, a shooter, rebounder and defender in addition to handling and steals. Code:
Starkey has a very good A/T ratio and good steals, scouts as an average scorer and defender, i'm not overwhelmed by this guy but I'm curious about him. Results We lose early games to IPFW and Stephen F Austin... ouch, but do go 9-3 in non-conference play. We get a few wins, and play the top conference teams, Wake Forest and Duke, fairly closely, and have a respectable first season. Code:

Recruiting We've got two scholarships this year and we need to bring in some better recruits than we got this year. Our budget is only $21,500/mo this year since we're actually paying our assistants now. We aim high with the #30 recruit but Syracuse comes in over us and we instead focus on a few 3* guys that look good to us. We land two players in December and are done with recruiting. Code:
Tyler has 3.5 steals per game in HS, and is a solid rebounding SF. Code:
Another 'A' Handles/A steals guy to crush my dreams. Results We're 4-1 after November. We beat Chicago State by 10 but lose to a ranked Fordham and an even more highly ranked Vermont. Lucky for us the ACC is down this year. Wake Forest is good but there are no other 20 game winners in the league. We go 10-6 which earns us a 4 way tie for second. Code:
Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (2) Georgia Tech 67, (7) NC State 50 Semifinals: (3) Maryland 104, (2) Georgia Tech 68 We are clearly tournament worthy this year, but, thanks to our terrible schedule we have a low RPI and only get an NIT bid. Tihs is ok of course, if we played a tougher schedule its highly likely we wouldn't have gone 18-10... NIT First Round: (4) Georgia Tech 92, (5) South Carolina 79 Second Round: (4) Georgia Tech 92, (1) Richmond 91 Quarterfinals: (2) Clemson 72, (4) Georgia Tech 63 We have a good run here with our mostly auto-team. Wake Forest is a 2 seed in the NCAA, losing in the elite 8 to Oregon. Oregon wins the national title over cincinnati. Kentucky and Syracuse also make the final four. Awards I'm the ACC Coach of the year. There are a lot of other awards but not for guys I recruited so its not worth mentioning  Code:

Before we go on, lets take a look at the teams I led to/towards the top of their conferences:

I left Chicago State after the 2010 season, that 30-4 season by far the best in my coaching career by any measure(wins, RPI, Tournament Results). The next 4 years, with my recruits, they were solid every year and earned two more NCAA Tournament bids. They've fallen some since then but theyr'e still a 40 prestige school in a level 1 conference. I spent 7 years at Vermont, from 2011 to 2017. I took their prestige from 34->48 over that time, and the new coach has picked up right where I left off. Vermont is quite the powerhouse. Code:
I only brought two recruiting classes into Fordham, but they did have their best season ever last year, by far. |

2022 Offseason
We get a small increase in prestige from 57->59. Our AD wants us to play in a postseason tournament, and is delighted with us. Coaching Skill I'm now a level 6 coach. I go with my standard 5 poitns in each skill improvement. I now have 50 recruiting, 20 scouting, 50 offense, 100 defense. Job Offer I get the single, only job offer that I would consider taking from here. My favorite team, North Carolina, offers me a job. Their prestige is down to 60, but I'm committed to Georgia Tech now. Perhaps down the road if I take Georgia Tech way up to to the top I might move to UNC and try to have UNC overtake Tech, but whatever, I'm at Tech for the long haul. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #73 recruiting class in the nation this year. This is 8th in the ACC, ouch. Wake and Duke bring in the 3rd and 4th classes nationally, Maryland 14th and everyone else but Florida State is better. If our guys came in as good system guys, I really don't care. Code:
This is an incredible system guy. Handling and Steals are great, a good shooter, good from the line, average PRD. Code:
Now we're talking. A decent enough system SF, steals, acceptable handling, a fair rebounder, fair ball handler, I'd rather have a bit better scoring, a bit better rebounding but this is pretty damn solid. Coaches My assistant retires, and my recruiter leaves for another school. I pull in a 69 recruiter and a 32 offense/88 defense assistant. Scheduling We've got Vermont/Chicago State/Fordham on the schedule, but the rest of the games i schedule the bottom of the barrell. Not much of a rebounder, but an average handler, good defender, good steals guy and the inside game is pretty nice. Code:
Ludwig would be another good addition, possibly a backup behind some of the top guys I've recruited the last two years, but i really like his defense to go with the average handles/good steals. Results We start 5-0 and earn a ranking, #25 in the nation. As we continue beating up on terrible teams we go up to #20, and eventually #12 as we're 10-0 going into January. We quickly lose our ranking, and our ability to win games, as we open ACC play. Late in January we pick up a marquee win over #6 Maryland. We end up with a fairly solid season, we go 8-8, behind the usual Duke/Wake Forest and upstart Maryland. Code:
Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (4) Georgia Tech 89, (5) Virginia 87 Semifinals: (4) Georgia Tech 84, (1) Duke 64 - TEEHEE. Down goes duke! Finals: (2) Maryland 71, (4) Georgia Tech 60 A solid ACC Tournament pushes us to 21-10, enough to get us into the big dance? NIT No big dance with our shitty schedule. We do get a 1 seed in the NIT Tournament, one of the first four teams left out of the big dance? First Round: (1) Georgia Tech 82, (9) Fairleigh Dickinson 72 Second Round: (1) Georgia Tech 74, (4) Providence 62 Quarterfinals: (10) Wright State 71, (1) Georgia Tech 69 Another good run, falling one game short of Madison Square Garden and the final four in the NIT. Illinois beats Syracuse for the national title, while New Mexico and Stanford also make the final four. 0 quickness is interesting, but does it matter for a center at all? Check out the SAT scores, he's a genius too. Results We play some solid games early but lose our last game in November to chicago State... doh! One of our steals guys, SF Tyler gets an academic suspension for December, and Vermont, ranked 15th, beats us by 20. We continue to struggle with manpower as we get Tyler bakc in January but lose PG Armijo and backup Starkey for 45+ days each to injuries... We get off to a great start in ACC play, sweeping Duke and starting 6-0, earning the #11 ranking before losing to #6 Wake Forest. Wake sweeps us but we are very, very good vs the rest of the conference. We rack up lots of big time wins, only losing to ranked Virginia on the way to the #2 spot in the ACC. Code:
North Carolina was clearly crushed that I turned them down. It saddens me seeing them at the bottom of the ACC, even in a fake world. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (7) NC State 72, (2) Georgia Tech 61 - Oh dear. We don't do well in the steals department, 8 for us, 7 for the Pack, and shoot poorly, 37%, and are upset ealry. We earn a 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament as an at large team with the #24 RPI in the land. NCAA First Round (5) Georgia Tech (23-6) vs (12) Utah State (24-7) Hopefully we don't get upset again! Its a high scoring fast paced half, we both shoot over 50%, but Tech gets 10 steals in the half to only 2 from Utah State, and we use that to our advantage taking a 52-42 halftime lead. Utah State keeps it around 10 points the rest of the way but never gets closer than 6. Code:
a huge game from our Center Marlin Barr in the win. NCAA Second Round (13) Murray State (24-8) vs (5) Georgia Tech (24-6) Murray State upset Oklahoma in the first round. Murray State gets off to a fast start, taking a 9-2 lead early, we close the gap and its close for awhile before we pull ahead and take a double digit lead ourselves. At the half its 52-44, Georgia Tech leads. We've got 8 steals to Murray State's 1. in fact we only have 2 total turnovers. Marlin Barr has 16 points at the half, our star from the first round. We blow the game open and lead by 20+ most of the second half. Code:
The turnover difference is huge here, and we're into the sweet 16, equalling my best tournament result ever. NCAA Sweet 16 We get another break as 9 seed UTEP upsets the top seed St John's. (9) UTEP (21-10) vs (5) Georgia Tech (25-6) We trail early and for most of the half, unlike the first couple games this half is dominated by poor shooting, we shoot under 30% for most of the half before heating up a bit. Its tied at 30 at the half. 7 steals for us, 5 for UTEP. We have the edge in the turnover battle, 7 for us/12 for them. We score first to open the second half adn slowly build up a 10 point lead, 53-43 halfway through the 2nd half, but UTEP closes the gap and with 6 minutes to go its a 2 poitn game, 60-58 Georgia Tech in the lead. We don't have a steal in the 2nd half yet at this point, and have turned it over a ton, we seem to be winning thanks to the reboudning edge and by shooting better. With 1 minute left, we cling to a 3 point lead, push the lead up to 4 on a free throw, and UTEP comes down and misses a 3 pointer with about 30 seconds left, ending their chances. We survive a close one here. Code:
NCAA Elite 8 We don't get a break here... Wake Forest beat us twice in the regular season, and they've advanced to the elite 8 in the South. (5) Georgia Tech(26-6) vs (2) Wake Forest (30-6) Its close early but midway through the half we pull out to an 8 point lead, hanging on to it for most of the half. We have a slight turnover and steals edge, and are holding Wake to under 40% from the field. Barr has 10 points for us at the half to lead the way. Georgia Tech 36, Wake Forest 30 - Halftime. We lead for most of the second half, but Wake doesn't let us pull away. With about 7 minutes left Wake takes the lead, 54-53, their first lead for the second half. We don't ever re-take the lead. Wake holds us down, 10 steals for us, 8 for them, we only shoot 37% from the field for the game, as wake ups their shooting in the 2nd half, and we fall in a tight one, 68-61. Code:

The thing i noticed here was that we really took it to a lot of the ACC teams. 20+ point wins vs Duke, UNC, Virginia, Maryland, FSU, Clemson and UNC again... I didn't expect so many blowout wins early on, but, in part this is due to the big men I had, I had two solid big men, one of them graduating this year. Hunsaker is the man. 3.9 steals, 19.2 points per game. Armijo and Tyler were good steals guys as well, as was Angell coming deep off the bench. Barr and Hart(my top big man off the bench) are graduating this year. I'll have Tong back for one more year and my first big man recruit, Charles Kellar, starting for me next year, and my steals guys will be more experienced. We know our Elite Eight run last year was heavily assisted by upsets in my bracket, but I'll take the prestige bump any way I can get it! We go from 62->69, which leapfrogs us past Clemson and Virginia in the ACC. Wake is at 100, Duke 93, Maryland 89, and we're 4th at 69. Our AD is delighted, and we are now expected to compete for the ACC Championship. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #105 recruiting class in the nation this year. This is the next to last class in the ACC. Duke has the #1 class, Maryland #3, Wake #20. Only UNC has a worse class than us. Code:
Falkner isn't the scorer I hoped, but, we have a guy that can rebound and play defense in the post. He'll had some depth to the front court. Code:
Ginder's handling is a major disappointment, but at least 48 is servicable, and he'll come in as a good defender and steals guy. His jump shooting might not be horrid either. Coaches My scout wants a raise, and his scouting skill has risen up to 70 which is definitely worth a raise to me, I bump him from 70K to 90K. My recruiter leaves, and I steal Marquette's recruiter, skill 84, for $140,000. Scheduling I am disappoitned that I don't get a preseason tournament offer this year. I'm really not sure about a lot of my decisions here. I went for the best combination of handling and steals. Ludwig and Martinez are great steals guys off the bench but Martinez with his size and inside scoring ability is actually slated to back up the big men with my lack of size. Colella is a senior but a worthless steals guy... we'll see what happens, i'm worried about mismanaging this lineup. Early Departures PG John Hunsaker once again declares for the NBA. Recruiting We've got 3 scholarships this year, we're losing a PG/PF/SF this year, 1 1/2 starters(SF Colella starts sometimes, PF Tong is a starter), and next year we'll be losing my first 3 recruits, all steals guys. I thikn my ideal class would again include a big and two steals guys, but right now the steals guys are pretty critical to replace all the backcourt players graduating soon. Three 'intellectually challenged' ball players coming to Atlanta. Baker looks like a great player, his stats aren't overwhelmingly good so we'll see how he actually comes in. Results We start out with 4 blowouts and have a #9 ranking going into December. 9-1 Entering January and ACC play, we are again getting some good blowout wins. The likes of UNC and Clemson are no match for us. Feb 1st is a marquee matchup. #1 Wake Forest, 19-1, 6-0 in the ACC, vs #8 Georgia Tech, 16-1, 6-0 in the ACC. And Wake Forest continues their dominance of us, 106-92. We also lose to top 10 Duke, twice, and again to Wake Forest later in the month. We beat everyone else and end up 12-4 in the conference. UNC is 1 game better than last year, and Wake Forest has one of the best regular seasons of all time. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (2) Georgia Tech 96, (7) Maryland 70 - Classic domination, 17 steals for us, 4 for Maryland, the turnover difference is +13 in our favor. Douglas Armijo scores 32 in the win, including 12-14 from the FT line. Semifinals: (2) Georgia Tech 80, (3) Duke 79 - We avoid getting beat 3 times by Duke in the same season. We get 17 steals, Duke gets 10, and we have a +5 turnover edge. We have some foul trouble in this game and Duke shoots 23-27 from the line which keeps it close. Our star John Hunsaker has 26 points and 7 steals in the win for us. Finals: (1) Wake Forest 84, (2) Georgia Tech 63 - Wake is just too good. Holy shit... we get 21 steals. Wake gets 6. We have a +15 turnover edge.... but Wake shoots 12-20 from the 3 point line, 50% overall, they outrebound us 49-24... its really, relaly rare that we'll get 21 steals in a game and we still lose. We earn a 3 seed in the West, the highest seed we've received. Wake Forest is a 1 seed i the South, and Duke is a 2 seed in the East. NCAA First Round (3) #14 Georgia Tech (25-6) vs (14) Radford (24-8) Hunsaker picks up two early fouls which hurts us some, but we build up a 9-1 steals edge and are +9 in the turnover department, giving us a 10 point halftime lead. Hunsaker picks up his 4th foul very early in the 2nd half, something tha tmight kill us vs a stronger opponent, but not here. Code:
NCAA Second Round (3) #14 Georgia Tech (26-6) vs (6) #20 Southern Cal (24-9) We know vs better teams we can't just overwhelm them with turnovers... usually. A 6 seed might be around the cutoff where we expect to win a vast majority of the time. USC has a good handling PG which will create some problems for us. Its close for most of the first half, but USC leads most of the way and leads 38-34 at the half. We get 7 steals to their 3, but only force 9 turnovers overall. USC shoots better than us and it feels like we should be behind by more than just 4... This is a hell of a game. Neither team leads by more than 5 the entire second half. USC leads for awhile, we take a 62-60 lead with about 10 minutes to go and its back and forth for there. With 1 minute left we're tied up at 82, and Thomas Tong gets an offensive rebound after a missed shot, we run off a bunch of time and Tong gets an old fashioned 3 point play with 17 seconds left. Gilliam was their decent ball handler, to get 8 turnovers out of him was a big win for us. The 8 turnover difference gives us the edge we need to overcome the poor shooting night. NCAA Sweet 16 We're not getting any favors at all this year. (2) #3 Temple (29-6) vs (3) #14 Georgia Tech (27-6) We come out cold as ice here, and we can't stop Temple... It's 20-8, then 28-12, the lead eventually goes over 20 and we are completely outclassed here. Code:
We get 21 steals but can't shoot the ball and the overall turnover edge is only +6 on the game. It's a very good season for us, we know we're not ready to make the final four every year yet, but we're establishing ourselves as a threat. 3 number 1 seeds lose in the sweet 16, including Wake Forest. The only #1 seed to make the final four wins it all. Syracuse beats Tennessee in the finals, while Cincinnat and Alabama are our other two final four teams. Wake Forest finishes their season 35-2. Hunsaker is again the man. 4.4 steals per game is just absurd. Ludwig was a monster off the bench with 3.6 spg, while Armijo and Tyler are good also. Tong and Colella graduate and will need to be replaced. Hunsaker's season is the 9th most steals in a season ever. Going into his senior season, Hunsaker is 11th all time in steals, 100 steals would put him in 2nd(he has 382 in 3 seasons, 100 should be automatic). He'll need 149 to become the all time steals leader. That's exactly how many he got this year. Early Departures Hunsaker decides to withdraw from the draft again. I consider myself very, very lucky. Another good postseason run, another nice prestige jump. Our prestige went from 69->74. Our AD is delighted, and we are now expected to compete for the ACC Championship. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #21 recruiting class in the nation this year. This is the best class i've ever pulled in, as far as rankings go. Wake Forest pulls in the #2 class, Duke the #22 class, Maryland #27. Eveyrone else is far behind. Code:
Goble is a solid recruit for us, a big time inside scorer and good defender. I'm happy with his academics, given how poorly I feared he might be. Code:

Another elusive handles guy. B handles/B steals, good quickness, average defense, and a free throw shooter, this is a guy i could see playing the point perhaps. Coaches My scout and recruiter leave, the scout to become a head coach, the assistant ditches us for Stanford. We pull in a scout with a 78 skill for 120K, and an assistant for 100K, 37 offense/70 defense. Scheduling No preseason offers this year either, but, we get another home game. 12 total games, 8 of them at home. I make another slight increase to my scheduling, looking now for teams with prestige in the 25-35 range. Training/Budget It's a damn miracle. We get a training facility upgrade approved. Recruiting Three scholarships this year. We're losing Hunsaker and two backups out of my first recruiting class at Georgia Tech. As always 1 big and 2 steals guys would be ideal. Thanks to the budget increase that our AD approved this year we have $29,769/mo to spend on recruiting. There's a noticible change this year to the guys interested in us. 5* recruits start out with "average" interest instead of low, and a large number of 4* guys have average interest in us. I go after one 5* guy but have to drop off when Cincinnati hops in. I land two targets in November, and one in December. No top 100 guys but 3 solid system guys that should keep me going I think. I'm a bit wary of the INS rating because he isn't much of a scorer, maybe the jump shooting explains that? I'll take a ball handler/steals guy with decent PRD though if those ratings hold up! Code:
Schwab has excellent stats, 22 points, 7 boards, 3.4 steals, shooting 45%, so I'm hoping tihs guy comes in with that C handles and great scoring and steals. The defense, C/14 has me expecting him to come in as a very poor defender, possibly poor enough that he'll lose some playing time as a result, given the quality of some of my other recruits. Results We expect to be frighteningly good this year, a legitimate threat to win the national title. We work our way through November and December with a number of 25 point wins, and nothing really close. We start conference play 12-0, #9 in the nation. Armijo and Hunsaker average 5+ steals per game each, and the chase for the all time steals record is on in full force for John Hunsaker, 12 games into the season he needs 89 steals to tie for the all time steals lead. We make a serious statement on January 24th, beating #2 Wake Forest by 18. 4 days later, We travel to Duke and they beat us by 30, giving us our first loss of the season. Duke sweeps us, again beating us by 30 at our place. At the end of February we struggle a little, losing 3 straight road games, at NC State, at Wake Forest, and at Virginia. We finish off with an easy win over UNC and go into the ACC Tournament as the 3 seed. Code:
Going into the ACC Tournament, Hunsaker needs 13 steals to tie for the all time Steals lead, 14 to become the leader. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (6) Maryland 79, (3) Georgia Tech 71 - Wow. I'm stunned to lose this game. 2 steals for Hunsaker, so he'd need a huge NCAA Tournament now to break that record. Duke wins the ACC title. We're a 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament, out West. Duke is a 1 seed, Wake a 3 in the tourney this year. NCAA First Round (4) #23 Georgia Tech (23-6) vs (13) South Carolina (19-12) Holy shit what's wrong with this team. We get 10 steals in the first half, USC only gets 4, but we turn it over a lot and only have a +1 turnover edge. We're shooting poorly and getting outrebounded 22-15... South Carolina has a 37-27 halftime lead and we're in danger of first round ACC and NCAA Tournament exits. We come out on fire in the 2nd half and take a 43-42 lead around the 13 minute mark, but, we don't get another steal or force another turnover after around the 10 minute mark of the 2nd half. We just play like shit in general, and go down hard vs South Carolina. Code:
Their center got 24 rebounds against us. After the success of the last couple seasons this is a crushing defeat. Cincinnati beats Duke to win the national title, with St Johns and Oregon also in the final four this year. Despite a lack of postseason success, we still get a nice prestige jump from 74->78. Our AD still expects us to compete for the conference championship and is still delighted with us. Also we get a message that the school has decided to upgrade the training facilities for us. Two years in a row, that'll be very nice. The improvement we got last year takes our trianing facilities up to 66, rated 6th in the ACC. Coaching Skill Increase I get another bump and am now a level 7 coach. I put 5 points in recruiting, 10 in scouting, and 5 in offense. My talents are now 55 offense/30 recruiting/55 offense/100 defense. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #71 recruiting class in the nation this year. This is 6th in the ACC. Wake has the #2 class, FSU 12, Duke #14. Code:

I'm a bit disappoitned that Vargo comes in with a C in INS, but he's still a great rebounder and good shot blocker. Overall this is a decent class but these guys will probably come off the bench more than they start. Coaches We lose our recruiter and scout this year. We pull in an 84 recruiter for $130,000 and a 70 skill scout for $120,000. Scheduling We get our first preseason tourney invite, we'll be the 5 seed in the Great Alaska Classic. I consider dropping my scheduling a bit, fearing a dropoff after losing Hunsaker, but decide to keep it the same instead, prestige 25-35 teams. Recruiting We only have two scholarships this year to hand out. We've got a ton of money to find the right two guys, $32,483/mo after the budget increase we got. We have the lead on a 4* PF up until November, but St John's comes in and wins him over us, and we are unable to land anyone early. Ugh, I lose two other top 100 targets in December, one of which I had a big lead on the entire preseason. In January we quickly fill out or recruiting class, one of our recruits is fairly shaky but one is quite a steal, we swoop in on St Joseph's on a top 100 recruit and land him the second we offer him a scholarship. Wiliams is an average handler, average defender, average-above average steals guy who can hopefully score a little for us. Code:
Ruffin ends up being quite a steal for us. He's ranked #81 in the nation and is a top 20 PG. The handling and steals I suspect are accuate, and I assume the defense is going to be pretty poor(that 19/C that I expect to end up being 25/D when he comes in). Results We get off to a great start. Our first game is a 67 point victory over Georgia Southern(114-47), and we win the Great Alaska Shootout beating Stanford, NC State, and South Carolina, 3 major conference teams. We're 14-0 going into January and hope to be able to compete with Duke and Wake this year. We're 19-0 after January but haven't played any of the big boys yet... and Wake Forest puts a 21 point beating on us in early February, we return the favor with a 25 point beating the next week. Duke is way, way down this year and we beat them twice, badly. We lose at Maryland, and those two losses(Maryland/Wake) are our only two regular season defeats. Code:
A down year for Wake and Duke, or a changing of the guard in the ACC with Maryland and Georgia Tech becoming the teams to beat? this is the first time in 24 seasons that someone other than Wake or Duke has won the ACC Regular Season title. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (8) Duke 78, (1) Georgia Tech 69 - Fuck Duke. We shoot 31% from the field while duke shoots 53%, that's pretty much it. We get 18 steals, 8 more than Duke and have a +11 turnover margin, usually enough for a win, but not when we shoot 31%. ACC 5 seed Clemson beats Maryland in the ACC Finals. We earn the 4 seed in the West in the NCAA Tournament. Maryland is a 3 seed, and Wake Forest a 9 seed, both in the East. NCAA First Round (4) #15 Georgia Tech (28-3) vs (13) Louisiana-Monroe (23-7) We just can't go down in the first round again, can we? Naaaah, we're fine, we easily overwhelm LA-Monroe. Code:
Double Double's from Keller and Tyler, a solid game for us. We do have a problem here, we lose our PG Douglas Armijo for 19 days, he'd be gone until the final four, if we could make it that far. NCAA Second Round (4) #15 Georgia Tech (29-3) vs (5) #20 Memphis (24-12) We should be able to overwhelm Memphis, we're underseeded. If we had made the ACC Finals we'd likely have been a 2 seed. We score the first 7 points of the half and Memphis spends the rest of the half trying to keep it close, they tie the game up at 38, then we score the last 9 points of the half, taking a 47-38 lead into the locker room. We get 10 steals to their 4 in the half but only have a +2 turnover edge. In the second half we score the first 6 points to push the lead out to 15 and Memphis can never recover. Code:
A stellar 25 point/17 rebound performance by Keller, 4 others in double figures, 2 guys with 5+ steals and we're just too much for Memphis. NCAA Sweet 16 (1) #1 Oregon (31-4) vs (4) #15 Georgia Tech (30-3) A matchup we'd rather have had in the final four, or at least in the elite 8. The saving grace here is that Oregon is a very poor ball handling team, they average 18 turnovers a game and their starting PG/SG/SF have handling abilities of 55/33/31. We hope to run over them with our defense. We get steals on Oregon's first 3 posessions, and Oregon doesn't score until the 15:30 mark, unfortunately, we're not scoring either and its 4-2 at that point. Oregon continues to struggle and with 10 minutes left in the first half its 20-8 Yellow Jackets. With 5 minutes left in the half we go up by 20, 36-16. At the half Oregon is shooting 22% from the floor. We have 12 steals, they have 4, and we're +7 in turnovers. We're completely destroying the #1 team in the nation, 51-28. Just a great performance. Gotta love the 28-30 from the Free Throw line. Everything went right here. NCAA Elite 8 (4) #15 Georgia Tech (31-3) vs (6) Cal (25-11) Cal upset 2 seed Kentucky to make the elite 8. Cal has a very good handling PG and very weak SG/SF ball handlers. Hopefully we can get it out of their PG's hands and force those turnovers to push us to victory. the first 10 minutes are low scoring as neither team cna make a basket(both teams shooting under 30%). Both teams heat up a bit and its 28-25 Georgia Tech at the half. Its been very close, 3 points is the biggest lead either team has seen. We have 5 steals, they have 3. We have 10 turnovers, they hae 12. We're shooting 38.2%, they're shooting 36.0%. Its wide open for whoever can play a better second half. We slowly begin to extend the lead, and get a steal/3 poitn play to give us an 11 point lead at the 12 minute mark, the first double digit lead of the game. A flurry of steals allow us to push the lead up to 15 with about 8 minutes to go, and we're just too good for Cal at that point, they don't give up but they can't come bakc. Code:
The turnover battle is even, which is not good for us, but the 15 steals netted some easy baskets which helped, and the rebounding edge was nice for us too. We've made our first ever final four, without our point guard, things are looking good!! NCAA Final Four The final four this year doesn't have any one seeds. 2 seeds Illinois and Oklahoma State play in one matchup, while on our side of the bracket, we get upstart Charlotte, a 9 seed who took out 1 seed Vandy, 4 seed UConn, and 2 seed Texas to get here. Charlotte has an ok PG(67 handles) and terrible SG/SF(20s for both) and we hope to be able to run them over on our way to the finals. We're worried about this one with 5 minutes left in the first half. Charlotte has a 30-29 lead, they're shooting lights out from 3 poitn land and we're not looking so hot... then, it begins. Over the next 5 minutes we go on a 24-7 run. We get 8 steals, 5 breakaway dunks/layups, Charlotte uses 2 timeouts to try to stop us, we force 5 second violations, 3 second violations, bad passes... Charlotte just falls apart. At the half, we lead 53-37. We have 15 steals. Charlotte has 0. We have +14 turnover edge. Charlotte is as close as they are becuase they're shooting 57% from 3. The second half is a different story. They crawl back into it. We continue getting the steals but we're turning it over some too, we start committing fouls left and right, and Charlotte is awesome from the line. We go 17-29 from the line ourselves, giving up lots of free points... We miss layups, we miss 3's, and somehow with 7 minutes to go its 68-68. With 3:30 left we trail 75-73. We miss 2 free throws that could have tied it. We get a steal and come down and miss a 3. We commit a foul and its 77-73 Charlotte. A quick basket, a steal right after the inbounds pass, and a layup and its 77-77. Finally here we get some things going our way, another steal, and we get two offensive rebounds and hold the ball for over a minute before scoring. Another miss by Charlotte and we come down with a minute left and go up by 3. We win a close one and are in the finals. Code:
26-4 steals edge. 16-31 turnover edge. You'd think we'd win by 40. Keller's foul trouble had to have hurt, but damn, this was scary. NCAA Finals No matter how we got here, we're now playing for our first national title! (4) #15 Georgia Tech (33-3) vs (2) #7 Oklahoma State (35-5) Oklahoma State is good. They have scorers at 4 positions, ball handlers everywhere, a couple great defenders... this is not an easy team to beat. The half starts off even, both teams are on fire, and OSU stays hotter for longer, taking a 6 point lead, shooting 70% for most of the first half. They cool off big time, and we get a lot more steals than I thought we'd be able to, and go on a nice run to end the half, Ludwig has 17 points at the half and is on a tear. Halftime: Georgia Tech 48, Oklahoma State 38 We shoot 56% to their 48%. We have 10 steals, they have 2. We commit 10 turnovers to their 12, but we're getting lots of layups/dunks off the TO's we're forcing. Ludwig is gettig steal after steal, and we push the lead up to 20 points with about 15 minutes left in the game. We know these guys can score but we keep the pressure on. With 10 minutes left we lead 66-52. The run happens though, and OSU has the lead down to 6 with 5 miutes to go. It's 72-66 Ga Tech. 72-68 with 4 minutes left, we've gone ice cold and aren't forcing turnovers anymore. With 3 minutes to go its 74-70, we're clinking to the lead, barely. A 3 pointer by OSU and then a blocked shot has OSU ready to take the lead.. they do, on a 3 point play chance with 1:45 left. They miss the FT and lead 75-74. OSU has the ball with 30 seconds left, up 75-74. We trap them, and Bill Ludwig gets a steal. We can't get a fast break out of it, but Ludwig gets it up to senior Douglas Armijo, who takes a shot as time expires.... and misses. We lose a heartbreaker. Code:

We were good this year, damn good. We're getting closer to where we can get some better secondary skills, more consistant offense, more consistant defense to go along with the handles/steals that we're getting pretty easily now, and that is what we need in these situations. We should hardly ever lose a game that we get 20 steals in, but right now its happening a bit. Still, we only had one loss that we can't accept... Duke was just so far down. At Wake? At Maryland? After our run to the finals, we're starting to play with the big boys. Georgia Tech's prestige is now 86, up 8 from last year. Our training facilities jump up 10 points to 76, 5th in the ACC. I'm still expected to compete for the conference championship, and "my performance is the stuff of legends" Job Offer I get a very intriguing job. Not one I seriously consider taking, but one that made me think for 2 seconds. Wake Forest's head coach has retired and they must find someone new. Recruiting We've got 3 scholarships this year, and we need a good big and a steals guy with some ball handling and either scoring or defense, and a wild card that can do whatever. I end up with an unusual batch of contacts. Out of my initial list I don't find a single backcourt player with ball handling of B or A, not even one to go after... I find a big man I like and a backcourt guy who I go after despite average at best handling, and set off to find more players. I land two guys in November and am feeling pretty good about things. Barrett isn't a top 100 guy but he's damn close. For someone labelled a center he's pretty small and needs to build up some strength though. Code:
Ortiz is a testament to where my program has come, he's the #32 ranked player in the nation, I don't scout him in the initial period, don't offer him a scholarship until October, and he comes running my way in November, in the first signing period. Our last recruit is the #100 ranked recruit in the nation. I'm worried about this one, but hopeful. 39/D handles... maybe that's actually 39/C??? If I catch a break there, this guy is a scorer. A good shooter in high school, if he has the ball handling skills to get him out on the court, he'll be dangerous. Results We run through November without a loss, but unfortunately that doesn't mean a win over Oklahoma State... we get George Washington in the Great Alaska Shootout finals, and we take them down. Those poor kids. Anyway, we're undefeated rolling into conference play. We open up ACC play at Maryland, and pull out a big 3 point win. We blow out Duke before suffering a loss to North Carolina. We sweep a ranked Wake Forest and roll into February 20-1, 6-1 in ACC play. We get revenge on UNC in February, beating them by about 35 in our house, and we seem to be running away with the ACC regular season title. At the beginning of March we get the #1 ranking I think for the first time in my history as a head coach, and we cruise into the ACC Tournament as the best team in the country. Code:
We're winning games like never before. We are averaging 21.3 steals a game, and have an average margin of victory of almost 38(85.2-58.2). Now, can we make it out of the first round of the ACC Tournament for the first time in 3 years?? Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (8) Duke 62, (1) #1 Georgia Tech 51 - Are you kididng? I really dont' believe what I'm seeing. We have no injuries. We're beating teams by 28 points per game. We're the unanimous #1 team in the nation. We beat Duke by 21 at home, and by 44 at Cameron. What the hell is happening to this team in the ACC Tournament. Maryland beats Duke in the ACC Final. We fall to #10 with the loss and earn a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Starting SF Mack Martinez is injured and will miss the rest of the season... NCAA Second Round (2) #10 Georgia Tech (30-2) vs (10) Nevada (20-10) We don't expect a challenge here, even with the injury to one of our stars. We score 60 in the first half and this one was as easy as expected. Code:
Ginder is 1 assist away from a triple-double. 21 points, 11 steals, 9 assists! NCAA Sweet 16 (2) #10 Georgia Tech (31-2) vs (6) Saint Louis (24-9) Unless play like shit we really don't expect a challenge even here. Well, we are challenged, sort of. We break out to a 10 point lead about 5 minutes into the game, and Saint Louis is pesky, they keep cutting it under 10, and we keep pushing it back up. We push the lead as high as 17 in the 2nd half, but Saint Louis digs away. The final score is closer than it looks, as St Louis ends the game with 2 three pointers after it was already too late. We can't force the steals in this one, but we shoot well enough and are just more talented than Saint Louis and are into the elite 8. NCAA Elite 8 We catch a break in the Elite 8. (9) UNLV (25-10) vs (2) #10 Georgia Tech (32-2) The 1 seed in our region was Illinois, who held the #1 ranking for much of the season. Again, maybe its arrogance, maybe its confidence, but with the team we've built, with the defense we should be able to play, we really are very, very difficult to upset. We expect to beat UNLV by 20. But, for the first time in the tournament, we fall behind early. We shoot poorly and turn it over a bit much, but we do finally take the lead with about 2 minutes left in the half. Halftime Score: Georgia Tech 33, UNLV 30. We've got 11 steals, UNLV only has 4. We're +3 in turnovers(11/14). Bill Ludwig has 3 fouls and didn't get on the court much in the first half, our backups are good enough that we should be able to beat a 9 seed without him, but it does hurt us. The second half is close the whole way, with 5 minutes to go we're tied up at 54. With 4 minutes left it's 58-54 Yellow Jackets. A couple long posessions later and its still 58-54 with just 2 minutes to go. We go up 6 before UNLV hits a 3 to make it 60-57. UNLV gets the ball back with a chance to tie with 30 seconds to go, but Jamie Ginder comes up with a key steal and seals the win at the line. Code:
We have our bad game and pull through it with a win, and we're in the final four for the 2nd year in a row! NCAA Final Four This year's final four: (1) #1 Cincinnati (31-5) vs (3) #6 Purdue (32-6) (2) #10 Georgia Tech (33-2) vs (1) #2 Oregon (29-9) Maryland made the elite 8 and lost to Oregon, we were close to an ACC final four matchup. We blew out Oregon last year when they were #1 in the nation, can we do it again? 7 minutes into the game we haven't made a field goal. Oregon 5, Georgia Tech 1... At the 12 minute mark we finally sink a field goal and its 9-4 Oregon. 8 minutes to go and it's 16-6 Oregon. We've got 8 steals and 8 turnovers and are shooting 15%... Oregon goes up 23-8 before we finally get a few easy baskets, cutting the lead down to 8. Its back and fort from there and its a 10 point game at the half. Oregon 35, Georgia Tech 25 We're shooting 30%, we've got 13 turnovers. It completely negates the edge in steals, we've got 13 to 2 from Oregon. This is my worst nightmare with a team that is weak handling the ball, we're giving up our posession advantage by throwing the ball out of bounds half the time we see it. We open the 2nd half with 3 straight steals and get 2 points out of it, but, we continue to force Oregon to struggle and score the first 7 poitns of the 2nd half... 35-32 before Oregon finally scores. Its enough to make a game of it... Oregon 42-40 with 12 minutes to go in the game. Ludwig gets steals on two straight posessions and we take a 43-42 lead. With 6 minutes left in the game its 47-47, we seem to have the momentum but its tight. We go on a 5-0 run and lead 52-47 with 4 minutes left in the game, but Oregon gets it right back, 52-52 with 3:30 to go. 3 minutes left and its 54-52 Georgia Tech. The defense is stiff here, and we get a few nice stops, taking a 58-52 lead. It's 58-54 with 1 minute to go, and oregon just isn't able to score until its too late. Code:
We weathered a big storm here. We finally slowed down the flow of turnovers in the 2nd half, incresed our shooting % up to 34%, and were able to pull out the win thanks to 25 steals. We'll play for the national title for the second year in a row! NCAA Finals (3) #6 Purdue (33-6) vs (2) #10 Georgia Tech (34-2) Purdue is a team that will be very hard for us to beat. Their PG and SG are both very good ball handlers(67 and 78 HND ratings). We have the talent to play with them, their big men are their best scorers and we have good post players ourselves, but I don't know if we're going to be able to generate a big turnover edge here. They're a better team with us. We're good, but we turn it over too much and we struggle to keep it close early. At the 10 minute mark Purdue goes up 26-14 and we're really struggling. A couple key steals and blocked shots allow us to make a run to cut the lead down to 5, and that's what this is going to take it seems. We can't hang with them unless we can force them to turn the ball over. And we can't force them to turn it over enough. Purdue begins to blow us out, they shoot 66% for the first half, including 45% from 3, while we shoot poorly and turn it over 5 more times than Purdue. Purdue 57, Georgia Tech 34 at the half, and I don't see this turning itself around. We manage to score the first 7 points of the 2nd half, cutting the lead to 16. From there we play fairly even for awhile, and with 12 minutes to go its 59-45 Purdue, we're way back but we can see single digits. Unfortunatley, we basically play an even game from there. Purdue can't take over and push the lead back up over 20, but it takes the rest of the game for us to cut it under 10. We lose by 9, runner up for the second year in a row. Code:
We've made two straight runs to the national title game and come up empty. It's been a really great couple of seasons, but I look at my last few seasons of recruits and there are a lot of guys where I said "this guy is a likely backup for me" .. Ludwig almost broke that pesky record, and the dude didn't even start until he was a junior. We've had two hugely successful seasons in a row, disappointed to come away with no championship, but we're breaking into the top echelon of college basketball and we're going to be very hard to stop from here on out. Its been two final four runs in a row, and the prestige doesn't have much more to go to get up to the stratosphere. We gain 7 points from last year, 86->93. Our goals are now to reach the sweet 16, and my performance is the stuff of legends. So lets look at the national scene, Duke is falling fast, Wake is probably on the way down after losing their all-world coach, and Maryland is fighting to rise up into the 90s along with us. Code:

I took a chance on Germany, and it didn't work out. D ball handling is going to negate a lot of positives elsewhere. This is someone who might be a star for another school and wlil probalby bomb totally at Georgia Tech. Coaches My entire coaching staff leaves to take head coaching jobs elsewhere. I had a solid, balanced staff and it'll be tough to replace them. Some interesting opponents, Alabama is the 2 seed, Boise State the 3(Boise State's prestige is up to 90, they were a 1 seed last year in the big dance). Its time to bump up the scheduling. I'll be looking for teams between 45-55 prestige, with two exceptions. I want one home game, and one road game, vs teams with 100 prestige... or how about 96 prestige and 100 prestige. Purdue and Oklahoma State are both coming to Atlanta this year, the two teams that beat me in the national championship game the last two seasons. Training/Budget No luck with the training request, and I really want to get this up there, we're still 6th in the ACC here with 74 training, good to be sure, but not good enough for a top 10 national program. Knowing that my pressing/trapping strategy leads to a lot of fouls, I'm worried about Baker and Schwab's PF ratings. I'm worried that I'm not making the most out of Baker's good HND by putting him at SF. Should Wiegand be starting over someone? Schwab has the big PRD hole but is otherwise good... so many questions. |

Recruiting Just two scholarships this year, and we're going to just grab the best players we can find. Thanks to a successful budget request this year, we've got $36,998/mo to find two players. We now have 4* talent starting out with HIGH interest in us. We're not in their top 5 lists just yet, but we're on the cusp. We land two highly ranked players in the initial signing period and we're done. Code:
Barret is ranked #22 overall. His offense is obviously poor but I am a bit suspicious... dude averaged 13 points a game and shot 54% in high school, is he really rated that badly? And if he is, if he has an A for defensive rebounding and post D and is a shot blocker, I'll live with it anyway. Code:
A good defender, good steals, very quick, a High C handles, an average shooter and good from the FT line. This guy is rated #42 in the nation. Results Well, we look good in November. We face Alabama in the top of the world classic finals, a team with a prestige of 92, and we beat them by 54, so I'm fairly content with my lineup after worrying about it quite a bit early on. We beat Oklahoma State by 45, and Purdue by 15 on our way to a 14-0 non conference record and a #3 ranking going into January. Duke is ranked again the first time we play them, and we beat them by 9. Wake Forest is ranked when we beat them by 37 at their place. Duke is a challenge the second time around, we pull out a 73-72 win there. Our first loss of the season comes on February 21st in College Park, MD. The Terps beat us 82-69. We come back later in the week and beat them 115-85 in Atlanta. The blemish against Maryland is our only loss of the year. Maryland appears to be the 2nd best team in the league by far. Code:
Can we advance past the Quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament? This year, luckily, we don't face Duke. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (1) Georgia Tech 75, (8) Clemson 64 - We get 16 steals to their 7 and have a +6 turnover edge. We shoot well, including and espicially 24-28 from the FT line. Its as close as it is because Clemson makes 10 three poitners. Semifinals: (1) Georgia Tech 74, (4) Duke 69 - Our nemisis, this time we see them in the semifinals, and this time we get the win. We only get 10 steals here, Duke has 8, and we commit more turnovers. We beat them on the boards today, our 45-32 rebounding edge helps us get 9 more shots from the field, and we win despite shooting 37% from the floor. Finals: (1) Georgia Tech 84, (2) Maryland 68 - Now this is what I expected the last couple years. Again we only get 12 steals, Maryland gets 8, we end up with a +9 turnover edge and dominate at the FT line, 28-32 on the game. PF John Goble scores 20+ points in all 3 ACC Tournament Games, he gives us 10-11 from the FT Line today as we wrap up the ACC Tournament. We earn our first #1 seed ever in the NCAA Tournament. We're the 1 seed in the south. Duke is the 6 seed in our region, while Maryland is the 3 seed in the East. NCAA First Round We outclass Army in round 1. Code:
NCAA Second Round Round 2 is closer than it should have been. Code:
NCAA Sweet 16 (1) #5 Georgia Tech (34-1) vs (4) #15 Memphis (25-9) Memphis comes out firing, they shoot 43% from 3 and 85% from the line in the first half, while we miss a number of free throws and turn it over more than we'd like. We've got an 8-4 steals edge, but the turnover margin is only +2 (9/11). We only lead 39-38 at the half here, and Memphis is staying closer than I'm comfortable with here, we need to put them away. We take a 10 point lead but Memphis just isn't missing 3 pointers... they come back quickly and actually pull ahead, with 5 minutes to go its 80-74 Memphis. With 4 minutes left Memphis leads by 8, 84-76. We get a quick 4 points and its 84-80 with 3:30 to go. A breakaway dunk after a steal cuts the lead to 2, and another steal ties the game up. An illegal screen on the next posession allows us to go ahead by 2, its 90-88 with 1:30 left in the game. Memphis gets a free throw to make it 90-89. We use up the shot clock but miss a jumper with 16 seconds left, leaving us with: Code:

We should have won that game. We missed 10 free throws which is just a killer. Boise State wins the national title over St John's. Oregon and Kentucky also make the final four this year. Falkner wasn't going to win a ton of awards but he was a pretty solid big man for me. A good rebounder and good defender inside. Code:
Ginder was a better ball handling rating away from being an all time great. As it is, he got 164 steals two seasons in a row and was the point guard on a team that is 68-5 over two seasons. I do believe we have now reached the point where Only reaching the Sweet 16 is a disappointment. And there is still improvements to be made. Most of the guys on these last three teams have significant holes in their game, offense, defense, ball handling, etc. With what will be a 100 prestige rating soon enough we can continue to close some of those holes. We get another nice sized prestige jump and we're almost there, 93->97. This puts Georgia Tech at 8th in the nation and tops in the ACC. Oklahoma State's prestige fell from 100->98 last year, leaving syracuse, Illinois, Cincinnati and Oregon as the only 100 prestige teams. We get an automatic training facility upgrade for next year, which is very good, I want 100 training to go with my soon to be 100 prestige. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #18 recruiting class in the nation this year. This is the top class in the ACC, a first for me. Duke is 22nd, Virginia 24, Wake Forest 34. Code:
Battaille comes in as a better scorer but worse rebounder than scouted. Still, B DRB/A PSD/A BLK is going to be nice to have on the team. Code:
Geter comes in about as scouted, he's a worse free throw shooter but his defense/steals/handling are all about what I expected from him. Coaches My assistant retires and my recruiter heads elsewhere. We miss a couple assistants and end up settling quite a bit there. We run extremely deep this year, and we seem to have a well balanced offense as well. I start baker at PG instead of Fritts, I usually want a 90+ steals guy at PG but Baker is my best ball handler by quite a bit and turnovers against better teams have hurt me. |

Recruiting We've got 3 scholarships this year and we continue to need to add front court depth. I've got a senior/junior/redshirt freshman/true freshman on the roster now. I need to land another big now to insert when the two upperclassmen are gone. I land two guys in the initial recruiting period, missing out only on the #12 recruit in the nation, both St John's and Syracuse were able to leapfrog me for him. Our final recruit signs in December and we look to have another solid class. Code:
And it looks like i've landed a solid big man here, Frith is the #77 overall recruit. Code:
Hirsh is the #17 overall recruit. There's one big glaring worry here... 17/B HND rating. I'm very anxious about that. I pull him in anyway b/c of his scoring, defense, steals, and in part ranking. Code:
Pearcy is ranked #142 overall and looks like a graet system player, someone who comes in with A handles/B steals and decent numbers probably starts for 4 years for me at PG Results We get our first big test on Dec 1, and we beat Illinois 107-94. We get a great game from Baker and that seals him as our PG for the season. Fritts is an incredible backup, he could start anywhere(including here), and he's destroying other team's backups for 2 steals a game in only 8 minutes a game. We take down Illinois, Cincinnati and Syracuse on the way to a 14-0 record going into conference play. Wake Forest drops us in our first ACC game, they're ranked 3rd and they beat us 85-69. We come right back and take out Duke in our second game. We roll through the rest of January, including beating North Carolina by 64(116-52). We have a rought schedule in February with a game vs Wake Forest then 5 straight road games. We get our revenge on Wake, but we lose at Duke for our 2nd loss of the season. We crush ranked Florida State and Virginia on the road, actually knocking both out of the top 25 i think. Code:
The ACC is having one of its better years in awhile, lots of parity outside of us and UNC. Any season where we lose at Duke, at Wake Forest, and nowhere else is a good one. We go into the ACC Tournament as the unanimous #1 team in the country. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (1) Georgia Tech 91, (9) North Carolina 47 - John Goble puts up 33 points, and we have a 19-4 steals edge today and just work over UNC for the 3rd time. Semifinals: (1) Georgia Tech 85, (5) Clemson 72 - Goble is our player of the game again, 21 points/6 boards. We have a 13-6 steals edge Finals: (1) Georgia Tech 78, (3) Virginia 73 - The final is close, we have an 11-6 steals edge but turnovers are even at 21, not one of our better performances really. A 47-32 rebounding edge gets us the ACC Title though! Quincy Schwab is the MVP of the game. We have the #1 RPI in the nation and earn the 1 seed in the south. NCAA First Round The first round goes as expected. Code:

NCAA Second Round (1) #1 Georgia Tech (32-2) vs (8 ) #22 Alabama (21-14) We expect an easy win here but we know better than to overlook them. Ugggh, one of these games... 10 minutes into the game its 17-11 Alabama. They're shooting 29%, we're shooting 17%. We go on an amazing run the rest of the half and end up shooting 43% for the half and lead 47-32. Alabama can't hang in there with us, they get it down to 12 but that's it. Code:

We shoot 38% to their 36%, they actually have more steals than us, 8-5, and they have a 3 turnover edge(10/13), and we go into the half trailing by 1, Lousiville 41, Georgia Tech 40. The second half begins as close as the first, its 60-59 Louisville with 10 minutes to go. We take the lead shortly but its tied again, 71-71 with 6 minutes to go. With 4:00 to go its 78-77 Georgia Tech. 2 minutes left, its 82-81 Georgia Tech. We burn some clock, get an offensive board, but can't score, louisville has the ball now with 55 seconds left, trailling by 1. We get a big, big steal, and Baker hits a jumper with 8 seconds to go. We lead 84-81 and Louisville will need a 3 to tie. Unlike last year where a 3 at the buzzer ends our season, this one doesn't go in and Georgia Tech survives. Code:

We were close to having 3 ACC teams in the final four, but Wake Forest got upset in the Elite 8. We'll have to settle for 2... NCAA Finals (1) #1 Georgia Tech (36-2) vs (1) #2 St John's (34-4) For the 3rd time in 4 years we are in the national title game. We hope to get our first victory in this one! This will be a tough one, obviously. St John's is led by PG James Lowe, 88/A HND, 76/B STL. Their SG gilbert Eldridge is 67/B HND and 96/A STL. Both are good scorers as well. Eldridge, their SG, gets 2 early fouls and has to sit out for awhile. We lose our center, Vargo, to foul trouble early too. We lead early, but its close, a 2-5 point lead for the early part of the first half. With 2:21 in the first half we lead 38-36. We score 9 straight to end the half and have an 11 point lead going into the locker room. With 15 minutes to go in the game we lead by 10, 58-48. Still playing well, we lead 66-57 with 10 minutes to go. With 5 minutes to go we're still up by 9, and things are looking really good, its been a nice, steady even half for us. A great, injury free season. We don't have any guys that go nuts with 5 steals a game, but we had a good ball handling PG, 4 guys that could score, backups that could overwhelm other team's reserves, just a spectacular season. The auto depth chart didn't even have Baker starting as a senior. We even went into training camp with him slotted as a backup. It wasn't until I looked at the roster as I was cutting and pasting it into my writeup for the offseason that I decided I wanted his ball handling on the floor, and what happens? Of course, our prestige is now 100 after winning the national title. Other teams at 100 are Syracuse, Illinois, Cincinnati, Oregon, and St john's, who was in the upper 90s as well and lost in the national title game to us last year. Our training facilities get a massive bump, up from 76->92, i'm not sure how that worked, but we now have training abilities that almost match our prestige. Coaching Skill Increase I'm now a level 9 coach... 65 recruiting/45 scouting/70 offense/100 defense. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #15 recruiting class in the nation this year. Scouted 45/A HND, comes in 45/C. The steals are upgraded to an A from a B where it was scouted, which is nice, but why oh why do we struggle so bad with ball handling. Code:

Thanks Izulde and Cap, I know people have done it faster but I'm pretty pleased with making it all the way up from a level 0 coach at a shit school to 100 prestige and a national title as quickly as I did, definitely the most successful I've ever been personally.

Recruiting We've got 3 scholarships this year and we're basically reloading at this point, 3 top 20 recruiting classes in a row, we're just shuffling in our upperclassmen into the lineup every year and winning. We just need to keep that going. We lose a recruit to LSU, which kinda suprises me, but we land two others in the initial signing period. We struggle to grab a 3rd target and end up pulling in another steals guy late in the recruiting season. Code:
Similar to the SG Hirsch that i ladned last year... This guy probably comes in as a C or a D handles guy and maybe I learn my lesson, but even if he does, he's got talent elsewhere, I really like rebounders at SF and this guy can rebound. Code:
A fair defender, ball handler, a fair free throw shooter, plus the steals, another guy who will fit in nicely with me once he trains up a bit. Code:
I'm really not sure what to make of this guy. I love his quickness and stamina and maybe he can score and handle the ball? But maybe not, and he can't pass and defend... I debated holding onto my last scholarship but decided to go after the Frechman in the end, if for no other reason to see if I can learn anything about scouting given this guy's odd ratings. Results We start out ranked #3 and earn the #1 ranking in the 2nd week of November. We crush Oregon, beat St john's by 18, and Cincinnati by 16. We face another top ten team in Tennessee in the Rainbow Classic, and have no trouble disposing of them either, in fact our biggest struggle is Wright State. We're 14-0 again entering ACC play, having played 3 100 prestige teams and another top 10 team. Our stats look a ton stronger than last year(margin of victory, steals, assists, shooting, etc). We beat Wake by 8 in January, Duke falls by 24. Somehow despite being undefeated we fall to #2 in the nation in early February(polls are stupid). We finish the regular season undefeated. We beat Wake Forest by 8 on January 15th. 3/12 We beat Maryland 74-63. 12/26 we beat Wright State 65-64. 12/22 Michigan 87-85. Cincinnati 82-66. St John's 88-70. Why do I mention those games? Those 6 games are the only 5 we won by less than 20. We won as many games by 40 or more, as we won by less than 20(6 each). Code:
Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (1) Georgia Tech 111, (9) North Carolina State 50 - 61 points... 36 from Schwab, 28 from Fritts, we have 25 steals, we force 41 turnovers. Semifinals: (5) Clemson 98, (1) Georgia Tech 91 - Ahhh, the upset. Schwab scored 37 in the loss, we got 20 steals but clemson got 16 and we had lots of foul trouble, sending Clemson to the line 35 times. The big thing though, Clemson shot 60% from the field... 35-59 from 2, 7-13 from 3, oof! Duke beats Clemson to win the ACC Tournament. Ruffin has 8 assists, we're just rocking on offense. We only have 8 steals, purdue has 5, we're crushing them on the boards(28-17) and we're shooting well and just smothering Purdue. Purdue briefly cuts it to 15, but yeah, we're just too good for them. Code:

We just beat one of the top 6 programs in the nation by 39. We took a 31 point lead BEFORE halftime. We led 55-24 with 1:20 to go in the first half. We went up by 40 with 11 minutes left in the game. NCAA Final Four 4 final fours in 5 years, and we are the defending national champs. (1) #2 Oregon (29-8 ) vs (8 ) #20 Uconn (21-13) (5) #17 Arizona (25-9) vs (1) #4 Georgia Tech (35-1) It'd just be unfair if we don't get Oregon in the title game. And yeah, I'm over-confidant, Arizona could pull the stunner I guess We score the first 9 points of the game. Arizona isn't going away so easily though, it takes until the 6 minute mark of the first half before we can go ahead by 10, when we take an 18-7 lead. The scoring on both sides picks up to end the half, but it looks like we're well on our way. Halftime: Georgia Tech 36, Arizona 22. We get 9 steals, Arizona 1. The turnover difference is 9/14 in our favor. The big thing though is that Arizona is shooting 30% from the floor, they can't buy a bucket. We quickly push the lead over 20, and around the 8 minute mark push the lead over 30, where it lingers for the rest of the game. Code:
We're just too much for anyone. NCAA Finals (1) #4 Georgia Tech (36-1) vs (8 ) #20 Connecticut (22-13) Oregon goes down in the semifinals, and this seems like it'd be a foregone conclusion. Don't forget Clemson, boys! Don't let up! We get steals leading to dunks on the first two posessions of the game. We lead 6-0 30 seconds in. 9-2 two minutes in. 5 minutes in its 20-5. We push the lead over 20, 28-7, at the 11:25 mark. We lead by as much as 25, but UConn goes on a run to end the half and we only lead by 16. Georgia Tech 46, UConn 30 at the half. Uconn actually has 8 steals, we have 9. The turnover battle is even at 10. We're just outshooting them and crushing them on the boards. 51% shooting to 35%, 25-16 rebound edge. Ruffin suffered an injury but otherwise we remained healthy again this year. Fritts 5.5 steals per game over 38 games... so so good. Geter gets 1.8 steals a game in only 13 minutes. Schwab leaves as the all time leading scorer at Georgia Tech. He's also 3rd all time in steals at Ga Tech, a 3 year starter on a team where most of my guys are only starting as upperclassmen lately. Imagine what will happen with us playing 35+ games a year now if we can find a 4 year steals guy. He'll get 600 steals in a career(the NCAA Record is 532 right now). Another nice anchor in the post. Vargo is a good shot blocker who leaves as Georgia Tech's all time leading shot blocker, with 199 in his career. There are guys with 400+ over a career though, so its just something we don't end up wtih a ton of. In 2004 and 2005, Wake Forest won the national title. In 2013-2014 Stanford repeated as National Champs. No one has ever 3-peat. Wake, Kentucky, and Syracuse have all won 3 national titles. Illinois, Stanford, and Georgia Tech have 2. Recruiting We've only got two scholarships available this year, and this is going to be one of our "Must land a big man" recruiting seasons. The top recruits in the nation are not quite ready to fall all over me. The initial top 5 schools for the top 10-15 recruits generally include Cinci, Illinois, Syracuse, St John's, Oklahoma State, Oregon, I even see Duke a couple times. Oh boy. I'm very concerned about recruiting. I lose my top 4 targets in November, two big men and two steals guys. I don't think I've ever lost all my scholarship guys and all their backup targets all at once. One of them was a top 20 recruit but I wans't aiming any higher than I have in the past. We're able to swoop in on a steals guy in December and land a good handler/steals guy, but the big men we're still searching for. We land a lower ranked big man in January, and hopefully we've pulled in two guys to keep our dominance going. Code:
An average scorer, deadly from 3, a ball handler and steals guy. He's a little slow for a SG, and though I really have no evidence to let that worry me, it does a little anyway. I've been using quickness to help make lineup decisions when handling/steals/defense are similar. Code:
I'm wary of the 27/B PSD, but I think he'll be a good rebounder and i hope he's a better scorer than indicated, as a 56% FG shooter in high school. Results We lose a game in November for the first time in years. Kansas takes us down, 71-63. We get good wins elsewhere though, including winning the Great Alaska Shootout with big wins over Virginia and Memphis. We work our way back up into the top 5 as we start our gauntlet of top teams... we lose to Oklahoma State by 1. Beat Syracuse, Crush Illinois by 30, beat Cincinnati by 25, and beat St John's by 24. Maybe I was worried about nothing, that's a hell of a run. We enter ACC Play 12-2. Our first big game is a win over #14 Maryland, followed by a win over #25 Virginia, another over #10 Duke, as we beat 3 ranked opponents in January, getting us off to a 6-0 start in the ACC. We lose our first game Feb 11th to Wake Forest, 59-49. This is a pretty bad loss as Wake appears to have fallen badly. That's our only ACC loss and we appear to be as dangerous as ever going into the ACC Tournament. Code:
Wake Forest got off to a 1-5 ACC Start, I guess they aren't as bad as i thought after all. We run into an issue as starting PG Jeffrey Ruffin suffers a bad injury and will miss the entire postseason. I adjust the lineups but Ruffin is by far our best ball handler and i'm worried. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (1) Georgia Tech 67, (9) North Carolina State 43 - We get 24 steals and hold the Wolfpack to 30% shooting in this easy victory. Semifinals: (1) Georgia Tech 100, (4) Virginia 52 - Back into the ACC Finals, backup SF Frank williams gives us 33 points, we again get 24 steals and have a +20 turnover margin in this one. Finals: (1) Georgia Tech 77, (2) Maryland 49 - The ACC Tournament is ours again! We get 23 steals, Maryland 10, and we have a +12 turnover margin, allowing us to win easily. We earn our standard 1 seed in the South in the NCAA Tournament. Duke is the 4 seed in the West, and Maryland is the 4 seed in the East. NCAA First Round The first round goes as expected. Code:

We roll into another sweet 16, but we're not nealry as dominant as the last couple years it seems. NCAA Sweet 16 (1) #2 Georgia Tech (32-3) vs (4) #14 Iowa (23-10) Iowa scores for the first time with 13:35 left in the first half. We had scored the first 11 points of the game. By halftime its obvious where this one is going... 40-19 Georgia Tech, Iowa is shooting 26% from the floor. We end up winning by 19 easily. Code:
NCAA Elite 8 (1) #2 Georgia Tech (33-3) vs (6) Georgia (26-9) Its really more of a football rivalry, but it would sting a bit more than usual if Georgia were to knock us out of the tournament. The first half is close, we shoot poorly, turn it over too much and are actually trailing by 7 points at the half. UGA 35, Georgia Tech 28. We shoot 32% while UGA shoots 40. We haev 8 steals to their 4, but we have 13 turnovers and they only have 10... Time to turn this thing around. The second half is even for the first 10 minutes... 47-44 UGA with about 9 minutes to go, we're trying to claw back but can't seem to push ahead into the lead. With 4 minutes to go, UGA has a 5 poitn lead, 57-52. At the 3 minute mark it's 59-56 UGA. We get the lead down to 2 after a steal and a free throw. Another steal with 1:45 to go leads to a breakaway and we tie the game, 59-59. With 1 minute left to play, its 63-61 UGA, we stlil haven't actually had the lead. We tie it at 63 with 40 seconds left. UGA turns it over with 16 seconds to go and we can play for the final shot. Micah Germany gets a shot from the free throw line and misses... OVERTIME. We score first in OT and lead for the first time since early in the first half. With 3 minutes left in the OT we lead 69-65. UGA has gone cold, we lead 70-65 at the 2 minute mark, and push the lead up to 7 and finally seal the win to advance to the final four! Code:
The 17-8 steals edge is nice but the turnovers are even overall at 22, just a poor game by our backcourt(Pearcy 3-14, ouch!) NCAA Final Four To 3-peat first you have to make the final four... we've now done that. The other game will be a good one, and this final four has 3 of the 6 teams in the nation with 100 prestige in it. We score the first 5 poitns, and 4 minutes in have a 15-4 lead in this one. 8 minutes in it's 27-7. With 2 minutes to go in the half we take a 30 point lead, poor pepperdine. Code:
We head into the finals after a nice 28 point win. NCAA Finals (1) #2 Georgia Tech (35-3) vs (1) #1 Oregon (36-3) Oregon is the only 100 prestige team we didn't play this year. We played all the others, losing only to Oklahoma State. Oregon's best ball handler is their SF, their SG is awful and their PG has only a 50 handles rating. We hope to exploit this badly. We score the first 8 points but Oregon uses the 3 pointer to keep it close early. Halfway through the first half we have a 6 point lead, 19-13. Oregon has 10 turnovers in 10 minutes which is killing them. Oregon goes on a run and takes a 26-25 lead with about 4 minutes left in the half, the turnovers are now really the only reason its close. We score the last 4 points in the half and lead. Halftime: Georgia Tech 29, Oregon 28. We have 7 steals, Oregon 3. We have 5 turnovers, Oregon 19. NINETEEN. They're crushing us on the boards which has to be helping them, as we are only shooting 35% from the field. 1.2 steals from our center, and 1+ steal per game for 4 guys that weren't featured heavily in the rotation. Pearcy nets 140 steals as a freshman, and I expect that to improve. Since I forced him into the lineup and he played well, I now actively want to push him into being the all time steals leader when he's done, i've had a number of guys come just 1-3 games short of breaking that record. Ruffin wins national player of the year as a senior in only 21 games. A great PG for two seasons, he ended up with 76 HND/69 PAS/92 STL Code:
Williams ratings are really pretty damn good. He had some spectacular games, scoring 33 in a game this season, but he could never work his way off the bench. I always had slightly better ball handlers, slightly better steals guys, and quicker guys. Still, the guy leaves college with 3 national championships, so I see no room for him to complain. We are now the only team to ever win three national championships in a row, and are in a 4 way tie for most titles ever: Code:
So I haven't really set an "end" for this dynasty. There are some superficial goals I could go for, I'd like to retire as the winningest coach in history. Perhaps get to 1000 wins? There's a lot of random teams that Georgia Tech has never beaten, i could go through and try to build a winning record against every non-conference team, beat everyone in the nation at least once. I'm not ready to quit this one just yet, I at least want to finish Pearcy's career and have the best steals guy ever, and I want to win at least 5 or 6 titles total, but clearly there isn't much challenge to building a top team every year and just hoping I can win 6 in a row in March at this point. What can you do after 3 in a row? Go for four, obviously. Each season I feel like my team isn't quite as good as the last year, but so far we havne't let up at all. Code:
Bold coaches are active, I moved up to 8th(up from 9th), and a couple coaches ahead of me retire. Nelson Kinser retires from St John's, and Douglas Ryder retires from Cincinnati. I'll get my 700th win this year and gain a spot or two depending on how many wins we can rack up this year. Incoming Recruits Georgia Tech has the #56 recruiting class in the nation this year. This is only 6th in the ACC, without any top recruits and only 2 guys coming in this is to be expected. Maryland, FSU, Wake, and Duke have top 20 classes and Virginia is better too by a bit. Code:

Recruiting We have 3 scholarshps this year to hand out, and the standard 1 big/2 backcourt players is what we're looking for. We're now in the top 5 off the bat for a number of top 100 players. We go after two top 10 recruits, something I don't normally intend or plan on doing(I don't want a ton of guys who are going to leave early on me), and lose them both, to Illinois and UConn. I land two guys in November though and am off to a good start this year. Code:

Gustin is one of the lower ranked guys we've gone after in awhile, but he looks really great for our system if he comes in as scouted, and i see nothing in his stats to really scare me off. Code:
Giles is the 45th overall recruit this year and looks solid, high C HND, A PRD, A STL, good free throws, he'll need some conditioning training for sure. Results We fail to win the Great Alaska Shootout. Vanderbilt beats us in the semifinals, we come back to beat Alabama for 3rd place. We get a close win over Oregon, then we crush Oklahoma State and Illinois, both by over 30. We're upset in our first ACC game, at unranked Clemson. We come back to beat Duke, run off a few wins and beat Clemson by 45 the next time we see them. Wake Fores is ranked the first time we see them, and we beat them by 42. We lose a 2nd ACC game to ranked Virginia by 10, and go into the ACC Tournament with 3 overall losses, 2 in the conference. Code:
The ACC is better overall this year than in awhile. Virginia came pretty close to us at the top. Conference Tournament Quarterfinals: (1) Georgia Tech 85, (8) North Carolina State 59 - We get 25 steals here, but NC State gets 15. We are +9 in turnovers and win easy. Semifinals: (1) Georgia Tech 69, (3) Maryland 66 - Whew, thta was a close one. We get 17 steals but Maryland gets 12. We are +10 in turnovers overall(21/31). Parker Ortiz gets 34 poitns for us, we have tons of foul trouble and Ortiz has almost half our points. No one else can manage more than 6 points in the game... Hirsch and Percey shoot 4-24 combined. Finals: (1) Georgia Tech 78, (3) Duke - The final is a lot easier than the semifinal. Ortiz gets us 31 points, and again no one else puts up double figures... Hirsh and Pearcy go 6-20 combined. We get 23 steals, Duke only has 3, and the turnover difference is 17 for us, 40 for Duke. That seals an easy win for the Yellow Jackets. This year we are a 1 seed out West. Powerhouse Syracuse is the 2 seed in our region. Duke and Virginia earn 5 seeds this year, Wake a 6, Maryland a 7 in the NCAA Tourney. NCAA First Round The first round goes as expected. Code:

We're even in steals and turnovers, we just outplay them and outshoot them. NCAA Elite 8 (1) #2 Georgia Tech (33-3) vs (2) #7 Syracuse (31-6) Syracuse is one of the better teams in league history. Syracuse takes an early 3-2 lead, then we score 10 straight. We're getting steals and holding Syracuse to under 25% from the field as we consistantly build the lead up, and there isn't really much to talk about... Georgia Tech 50, Syracuse 18 at the half. We get 23 steals, are +14 in turnovers, and we just tear Syracuse apart. NCAA Final Four (1) #2 Oregon (34-3) vs (1) #4 St John's (29-9) (5) #15 Illinois (25-11) vs (12) Saint Mary's (25-12) A 12 seed in the final four!! Too bad we have to play the 1 seed instead  St John's is outplaying us early. They lead 12-5 early on before we get a few steals and cut it to 1, 12-11 with 14 minutes to go. We take our first lead 16-15 with 13:25 to go in the half. With 10 minutes to go we lead 26-20. Things are mostly even but we're shooting better from the floor. We build the lead to 10 with 7 minutes to go in the half, 30-20, but St John's scores 5 straight to keep us from blowing it open. We get 12 steals in the first half to just 5 for St John's. We shoot 50% to their 38%, and we lead by 9, 43-34 at the half. We score the first 8 points of the second half and finally do blow the game open. come on Saint Mary's!!! Code:
NCAA Finals (1) #2 Georgia Tech (35-3) vs (5) #15 Illinois (26-11) Well we havne't gotten any favors this tournament, Syracuse, St John's and Illinois are 3 of the best programs in college basketball. Illinois looks to be a little down this year though and perhaps we can run them over. Well, we're in for a challenge in the finals. We both shoot around 30% for most of the half, but Illinois heats up. They have 10 steals to our 7, and they have a +3 turnover edge. We trail, 42-33 at the half. We get a great start to the 2nd half, scoring 9 straight to tie it up at 42. Illinois isn't rolling over though. With 15 minutes left in the game its 53-53. We go on a little run and take a 62-55 lead with about 12 minutes to go. We get hot from 3 and push out to a 14 point lead, 75-61 with 10 minutes to go in the game. At the 6 minute mark Illinois cuts the lead back down to under 10, but we pull back away and Illinois isn't going to make it a game at the end. FOUR IN A ROW! Code:
A tough game, Ortiz and Hirsch, our two best scorers, both suffer from serious foul trouble, but our backups and Pearcy come up huge for us in the win! Four national titles in a row, holy cow! Pearcy and Hirsch are both sophomores, we've got a good backcourt set up for the next two years! We're losing Barrett and Ortiz out of the starting lineup, and 6th man Micah Germany. Frith will be great starting in Barrett's place and I'm sure we can find someone to work in as the SF, hirsch is a bigger guard and can probably slide to the SF slot and run a 3 guard offense. Ball handling and ball handling alone kept Germany out of the starting lineup. He was valuable though, a good scorer and steals guy off the bench, and he filled in during our 2031 National Title run when our PG got hurt during the postseason. Four in a row! I'm still not sure when to define the end of this dynasty, but I have a hard time quitting without the #1 steals guy in NCAA History, and without being the winningest coach in history. Those things will keep me around for a little while longer, even if the updates are sporadic(NCAA08 and other stuff has my attention right now). I jump up from 8th to 6th in all time wins, passing two retired coaches. McAndrew is still going strong at Oregon, but even if Oregon wins 20 this season I could pass him and move into 3rd all time this year. This team will almost certainly challenge for another national title. The big men can rebound, defend, and hot damn can they block shots. The SG/PG can both defend and steal the ball extremely well, and there are some scorers out there. Early Departure Junior Robert Hirsch has announced that he intends to leave college after his junior season. Hirsch and Pearcy are both juniors and I'd love to have them both in the backcourt next year, but we could stomach the loss if it ends up happening. |

Recruiting Just two scholarships this year. One big/One steals guy, a handling PG type and a scoring big man would really help here. And I think this is the first time that I've ever gotten my first choice at both scholarship spots in the initial signing period. Code:
The big is the #26 overall recruit. With two rebounder/defenders in the program right now I'm willing to take the C DRB(but a high C, maybe I luck into better?) to get a big time scorer, and I think that's what I've got here. Code:
#60 overall, please please please come in B handles/A steals! The defense sucks a bit but I'll give it up to get the handles/steals, and the FT Shooting is nice too. Results We open the season as the unanimous #1 team in the polls, but we get upset by St Joseph's to open the Great Alaska Shootout, and a couple days later get taken out by powerhouse Cincinnati who also had suffered an early defeat. Tech/Cinci was supposed to be the finals, doh! We recover nicely and destroy Illinois(81-36!), St johns(80-57), and Oklahoma State(86-69) to end the month back on top of the polls, 12-2. ACC play opens with 3 straight road games which we handle fine. We close out January with a 50 point win, on the road, at a ranked Virginia team(82-32). We've beaten ranked Duke, Wake Forest and Maryland teams too. Virginia is ranked again when they come to Atlanta, final score: 105-53. We end up undefeated in ACC play(have we ever done that before, that might be a first!). So Feb 1 we beat Maryland 86-65 on the road, a 21 point win. We follow that up with margins of victory of 39, 43, 53, 48, 37, 59, and 52 to close out the regular season. Code:
Duke and Maryland are good, and we just embarrassed them this year. Finals: (1) Georgia Tech 77, (3) Maryland 55 - 24 poitns from Hirsch, 14 steals, 4 blocks, we're just too good, hopefully there's no letdown in the NCAA Tournament. We're the 1 seed in the south and get the play-in winner. Maryland is the 3 seed in the East, Duke is the 3 seed in the west. NCAA First Round The first round goes as expected. Code:
Doug Pearcy only got 15 minutes in this game... why? He's hurt, 64 days with a broken leg. Also out, starting PF Michael Frith, backup big man Donny Milliken... Milliken and Pearcy will miss the entire tournament. Frith will play in the Sweet 16 if we avoid upset. NCAA Second Round We get the 8 seed, Notre Dame. Code:
We get 19 steals and lead the turnover battle, but we're now upset prone with 3 important players hurt. NCAA Sweet 16 (1) #1 Georgia Tech (33-2) vs (4) #18 San Diego (28-5) We've got Frith back but he's still just day to day and not full strength. I'm putting him out there anyway. Its close early in the half but its really just close because San Diego shoots 80% for the first 13 minutes or so. We pull away late in the half with 9 first half steals(only allowing 2), and have a 45-29 halftime lead. We go on a run to start the second half and push the lead up over 20 and never look back. Geter(now our starting PG) fouls out after just playing 18 minutes but we have more than enough to compensate. 10 points/21 boards from Battaille is really impressive. In the game, however, Brian Finney, our 9th man off the bench, now our backup PG, breaks his cheekbone and is out the rest of the season... going into the elite 8 we have 4 players listed as injured, 3 of them OUT, all of them players that are important on the depth chart. NCAA Elite 8 (1) #1 Georgia Tech (34-2) vs (6) #21 Wake Forest (22-13) Wake Forest will certainly be after revenge here... we've beaten them 3 times this season, badly each time, and surely they will be out to keep it from being 4 victories. The first half is crazy. We shoot 10-21 from 3 in the first half and get 8 steals, scoring 59 points, so we're crushing Wake right? Wake has 6 steals, getting breakaways on most of them, and wake is shooting 8-11 from 3.. 72.7%! Halftime: Georgia Tech 59, Wake Forest 55. We start out hot, pushing the lead up over 10. Wake isn't completely going away though, but it looks like our lead will hang around 10 points for most of the second half. Wake is never quite able to get back in it, and we're through to the final four... again! Code:

NCAA Final Four (2) #7 Cincinnati (29-8) vs (2) #3 Oklahoma (33-4) (2) #6 Stanford (32-6) vs (1) #1 Georgia Tech (35-2) A high quality final four. I would love to get Cincinnati in the finals. They were the last team to beat us. But first, we have to handle Stanford. Stanford scores the first four points of the game, and that's about it for them I believe. We slowly build a lead, taking it over 10 points with about 8 minutes to go in the half, 15 points with about 4 minutes to go, and up to 20 at halftime. Georgia Tech 49, Stanford 29. Delescluse has 21 points at the half. We have 13 steals to their 5. 6 blocked shots to their 1. The second half is just not close... Code:

Oklahoma pulls out to a 6-2 lead early, and has the lead with 11 minutes to go, 12-11. They keep it close and its tied, 27-27 with 5 minutes left in the first half. Unfortunatley for them, Oklahoma fails to score for the last 5 minutes, and we get a few nice shots, and take the lead into the half. HALFTIME: Georgia Tech 37, Oklahoma 27 We have a 7-3 steals edge, 4/10 turnover edge, and have no foul trouble. Delescluse has 14 points at the half. Two threes to open the second half gives us a 43-27 lead before Oklahoma finally scores to end the run. We keep on it though and its 48-29 with 15 minutes to go i nthe game, and Oklahoma just won't be coming back from this after we go on a 21-2 run. There's antoher run later on... With 8:14 to go in the game, Oklahoma makes a 3 pointer, making the score Georgia Tech 68, Oklahoma 47, we only lead by 21 here. Oklahoma gets 4 more points in the final 8 minutes, and we close the game on a 24-4 run. Code:

Battaille fits the mold of lots of players we've had in the post over the years, good rebounder, defender, and he had the added bonus of being a great shot blocker. He shot 56% from the floor this year, a very impressive performance. Code:
Not much dropoff at all from Pearcy to Geter, which was key to us winning the title this year. An excellent defense and steals guy. Geter was never a consistant starter but still got 275 steals for his career, pretty amazing. Code:
Aww, to have one more year with Delescluse, Hirsch and Pearcy in the backcourt. Hirsch is an awesome player and we'll miss him, but someone will be ready to step in next year. I said in my initial post that one of my goals was to get a guy to the top steals all time spot. That should be fairly trivial, barring injury. Code:
Pearcy has another year of eligibility left. Had he not gotten hurt, he had an outside shot at breaking 500 steals as a junior. We won't be *this* talented next year, but does it matter at this point? The national titles are really coming with a lot of luck. We've got great depth and a great dynasty going here, but to go 5 seasons in a row without a loss in the NCAA tournament is *insane*. To have never been upset is unfathomable.
