ok folks, I need input from you steeler fans out there. I'd take the easy route and just use the 5 steeler Super bowl winners, but you all know they may not be the best 5 teams. So come out and tell me who YOU think they are.

*Edit* After reviewing some of the stats on the Steelers I've decided on the following teams:
2004 *#1 defense in the NFL both yardage and scoring, 15-1 record*
1994 *#3 Overall defense 12-4 record*
1979 *#1 and #2 offense and Defense in the NFL respectively*
1978 *14-2 record Super Bowl voctory over Dallas is still a classic*
1974 *First Super Bowl Team*

another nominee:

2004 Steelers -- 15-1 record and lost in the AFC Championship Game

I'd almost certainly eliminate the 2005 team from consideration. It was a great stretch of wins and a good story with Bettis, but I don't think it was one of the top handful of Steelers teams, overall.

I think the 1978 team is probably the best choice.

Ok here we go, week 1 Pittsburgh Steelers:

1974 @ 1978: 1974 wins 10-3
Gilliam outdueled Bradshaw and Bleier pounded in the lone touchdown with 2 minutes to play to lift the 1974 Steelers over their heavily favored 1978 counterparts.

1979 @ 1994: 1979 wins 26-20
Overtime was required to seperate these two great teams, franco harris busts open a 34 yard TD run in the overtime to put it away.

2004 @ 1974: 1974 wins 20-3
Reed kicked a FG 6 minutes in and that was the last time Rothlesburger and company crossed midfield. Total domination by the first time Super Bowl winners.

1978 @ 1994: 1994 wins 26-3
The team most pundits believed was the best of all, 1978, gets just hammered by a defense that would not be broken. Bradshaw had a simply awful day as he was picked 4 times and the first of which was returned for a 34 yrad interception return for a touchdown.

1979 @ 2004: 1979 wins 21-9
Big ben looked more like the london clocktower than a Qb today as he was sacked 8 times. Bradshaw enjoyed a quiet afternoon of playing catch with Swann and Stallworth.

So after 2 games each:

Week 2 Pittsburgh Steelers:

1978 @ 1974: 1978 wins 9-0
You can only call it like it is. A slugfest in which field position meant everything. 3 Fg's and nothing more as the 78 squad gets in the win column.

1994 @ 1979: 1994 wins 28-14
In what can only be called an upset the 94 team steals one from the 1979 unit. Time of posession means everything in games where defense is crucial. 1994 held the ball for 10 full minutes longer than Bradshaw's unit.

1974@ 2004: 1974 wins 14-6
I dunno how many ways to say it, but defense is the key. 178, thats the TOTAL number of offensive yards the 2004 group managed in this game. It looked like the 74 team was playing Hackinsack, NJ High out there.

1994 @ 1978: 1978 wins 16-13
A hard fought game right to the wire. The 78 Steelers pull out a gut wrencher on a last second 47 yard FG!

2004@ 1979: 2004 wins 14-12
Ben hits Randel-El for a 60 yard strike 4 minutes into the game and the Bus hammers home a second TD with time running out in the first half to give the 04 team the 14-3 lead. They held this until 6 minutes to go as the 1979 team rallied for 2 scores but failed their 2-pt conversion to fall just short. Giving the 2004 Steelers their first win.

So after 4 games each:
