I think I agree with Chemical Soldier personality number 2...but personality number 3 has a good point.

I haven't bought 2K4 yet, but 2K3 was a FUN little game. Good balance and good challenge imho. In the latest career I played with it, I managed to win a few world titles, but I also managed to finish last several times as well (even lost 100 games twice). The Mogul series doesn't move forward very quickly, but it remains a solid, relatively bug-free product that gives very believable results in a LIGHTNING-fast sim.

Has the depth of a sim made in '97 and horrid roster management.

Just call it as I see it .

For a series which had so much promise when it debuted, I'm still at a loss as to explain why it has no progressed at all in nearly six years. Don't get me wrong, I love the premise (more player management focused, then manager focused ala OOTP). The interface is superior to OOTP and Puresim, the trading model is fine, and speed is unmatchable. However, as I mentioned before, the depth of the game is same as it was in 1997, and that alone makes it unplayable .

Difficulty is VERY varied depending on what franchise and settings you choose. Play with deafult settings, Mogul difficult and use a team like Montreal or Milwaukee, and it is a difficult enterprise.

I've also found that you need to tweak the settings for how good minor leaguers are. Did this awhile ago, don't really remember what it involved but it's on the BBM website/forum somewhere.

Overall, I like the interface/speed a lot. The AI needs to be better and I'd really like a draft and different minors levels instead of the system they have now. I'll play it, but not really seriously, more just for simple fun (500 game winner anyone?).

Yeah , unless I lose interest in OOTP 5 I probably will not get seriously enamoured with BBM 04 .

BBM was the first of the "new wave" of text-based sports sims I really got into. IN fact, it was through a search for BBM-like games that I stumbled upon this forum years ago and discovered FOF. Clay is a really nice guy and deserves to do well, but honestly, the game hasn't made more than an inch of progess in the past 5 years.

I don't know if Clay has just gone as far as he can take a game by himself, or if BBM represents all that he wants a game to be. Either way, once I played FOF2, I could never go back to a BBM-type of game. The all-encompassing experience of the FOFs and OOTPs of the genre ruined BBM for me. Until that point, though, I loved that game.

I agree that the game hasn't made much progress, but it has made some. The problem is that it has made mostly "under-the-hood" progress. The trade AI is now solid. Roster/lineup management has improved hugely. Etc Etc Etc. However, very few NEW features have been added since the inception of the series, and I'm sure that frustrates some. That being said, it is still a nice baseball sim, when taken for what it is, rather than what we all thought it might become.
