ping: those around 30 or older

Who are the athletes that are still on your favorite team that began on your team when you were in high school or college?

I graduated from high school in 98 and I could have sworn Paul Konerko was on the team then, but I looked it up and he didn't play with the Sox until 99.

So between the Bulls, White Sox and Bears there is nobody left from the team when I was in high school.

I graduated college in 02--that leaves me with Konerko and Buerhele from the Sox. Urlacher and Kreutz for the Bears. And nobody from the Bulls so to recap:

Players left from HS: NO ONE
Players left from college: konerko, Buerhele, Urlacher and Kreutz.

I feel old, but I suppose I should be glad at least someone is left!

I think the only person left since HS for me on the Braves is Chipper Jones.

I don't remember any Falcons players still around.. and could care less about the Hawks.

For me that'd be none - but I'm a Brighton fan and in that time we have:

* Nearly gone bust
* Been homeless (no stadium we've been playing in rented accomodation for the last decade and a bit).
* Been on the verge of being relegated out of professional football and becoming amateur (avoided relegation from Division 2 on on the last game of the season).
* Been in the division below the top flight (the Championship as its called strangely enough).
* Finally got our new uber stadium being build (30,000 seater - hurrah )
* Went through a 5 year period where we didn't stay in the same division for subsequent seasons, each year we were either relegated or promoted.

Its been a rollercoaster ride for sure

So its not that surprising that we've had a fair few personnel changes in that time - more surprisingly imho I believe I WOULD have been able to say Kerry Mayo or Gary Hart up until really recently, I believe they've both had their contracts relapse this summer ...

Oh boy. Good question.

HS - graduated in 98
If it doesn't say (HS) it's a college-era guy. I graduated college in 2004 though (like 2 years late) so my list may be longer than most.

Sox: Wakefield (HS), Varitek (HS), Youk (had a cup of coffee in MLB in May 2004)
Pats: Brady, Kevin Faulk, Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork, Matt Light, Stephen Neal,
Celtics: Paul Pierce (HS), Tony Allen, Kendrick Perkins,
Bruins: Hell if I know...nobody? Bergeron was acquired in 2003, but I don't think he played in the NHL that year.

If I stretch it to college, then I can answer Ruben Amaro.

Wait, he's the GM. OH FUCK ME.

Reggie Miller would have been the last great player from my HS years.

College...Reggie again. Colts, no one. I graduated in 96 from IU so I'm a couple years before Manning.

If you count grad school (02) then that gets Manning, Wayne, and Saturday, and Freeney involved. Pacers? No one I can think of.

At 35, most of the old guys came out of college when I did.

Wait, he's the GM. OH FUCK ME.

I graduated high school in '95 and WVU in '99.

I had the same feeling with Carlos Garcia (probably a who?!?! to most.) with the Pirates. He's their 1B coach now. It isn't fair as a Pirates' fan, though (in any number of ways), as their longest tenured player is Zach Duke from 2005. He may not have even been called up before we had our 10-year reunion.

With the Steelers: Hines Ward (1998) and Aaron Smith (1999).

No one comes near for the Penguins either, but they had a major purge when they went bankrupt and tanked a few years ago.

On the 49ers ~ Jeff Ulbrich was...but he just retired after this past season...so nobody. *edit* Brian Jennings, our long snapper was a rookie when I graduated.

On the Orioles ~ Nobody...Brian Roberts didn't join until the year after I graduated

On the Giants ~ Nobody...holy crap.

From Highschool?

Like the other Detroit area fans: Nick Lidstrom (Wings) and Hanson (Lions).

From College:

I graduated in 1996, so there are a couple of more Wings still around in Draper and Osgood. I guess I will add Maltby too, though he's likely gone now.

I didn't go to high school, but I graduated college in May 2002. As I look at my favorite teams, here are current players who were on the team back then:

Memphis Grizzlies - nobody
Denver Broncos - nobody
New Jersey Devils - Patrik Elias, Martin Brodeur, Jay Pandolfo, Jamie Langenbrunner, Colin White (grr)

For baseball, I'm a Pirates fan now, but I wasn't at the time. I was a Cardinals fan. In any case, none of the current Pirates were on the team in 2002 (I'm thinking some of the current Pirates weren't even born by then). Albert Pujols is the only current Cardinals player who was in St. Louis in 2002.

That's it, I guess.

HS (1995): Just John Kasay with the Panthers. The Cubs have had full turnover many times over it seems, the Hornets left Charlotte and the Bobcats are new, and I don't really follow hockey.

I never graduated from college but this list wouldn't have changed at all if i bumped it up to 1999.

Would have been Strahan 2 years ago (and I was still over 30 then).

Now...Jeff Feagles is probably about it. He wasnt a Giant then but he's certainly been in the league since my grandfather was a toddler.

I'm a year older than Swaggs, so you can use his for me.

I'll count Lemieux for the Pens.

Graduated High School in 1999.

San Francisco Giants: Joe Nathan and Russ Ortiz...
San Francisco 49ers: Chike Okeafor and Terrell Owens...
Golden State Warriors: Antawn Jamison...
San Jose Sharks: Patrick Marleau and Evgeni Nabokov (was very surprised to see he was on the squad in '99)...

Crazy to see how few players are still around.

I'm 34 so most of them have already retired or are about. Raul from Real Madrid is probably the one that comes to mind more often, as i still remember when he played his first game when he was 16 and i was 19 i think, he was the younger kid to play pro those days. He is going into his last contract year and after that probably will retire.

I graduated in 1994, so that predates the Panthers, Hurricanes, and Bobcats (the Hornets have turned over their roster since then regardless) and the Rockies have all turned over since then.

If you move to 1998 when I graduated from State, I think only John Kasay on the Panthers and Todd Helton on the Rockies make the list.
