Cleveland's Gray Top CL Batter in April
Friday, May 1st, 2172: Steve Gray battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Gray told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Gray hit .352 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 16 runs.


Omaha's Moreno Bags RL Top Batter for April
Friday, May 1st, 2172: When guys like Omaha's Víctor Moreno win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive April, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 28 hits in 86 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .326 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Reliever April's Best Hurler in CL
Friday, May 1st, 2172: Rod Duncan has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Cyclones bullpen ace collected no saves and 17 strikeouts in 34.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .260 average and posting a 2.60 ERA and a 4-0 record.


RL Picks April's Top Pitcher
Friday, May 1st, 2172: In April, the top pitcher in the Republic League was a reliever, thanks to some sensational numbers Tony Rosales put up coming out of the bullpen.

The Colorado relief specialist made 10 relief appearances, picking up 6 saves and 8 strikeouts in 12.2 innings, and posted a 2-0 mark and a 2.84 ERA.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2172: Andrew Davis earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Noblesville catcher might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Davis hit .282 with 1 home run, 10 RBIs and 15 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.


RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2172: Montreal's Dick Waters collected 20 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for April.

He batted .250 with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Ramírez May's Best Bat Choice
Monday, June 1st, 2172: Héctor Ramírez of the Halifax Winter Wolves swung a mean bat for the last 30 days and was acclaimed the Continental League Batter of the Month for May.

The 24-year-old shortstop slapped out a .333 batting average, 6 home runs, 29 RBIs, 15 runs scored and a .457 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year Ramírez is hitting .313 with 9 home runs, 45 RBIs and 26 runs scored.


May's Best RL Hitter is Pancho Gamboa
Monday, June 1st, 2172: May was a very productive month for Pancho Gamboa, and today the Hammersmith first baseman was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .393 average, 7 home runs, and 30 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

So far this season Gamboa is hitting .333 with 11 home runs, 42 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 204 at-bats and a .377 OBP.

Sánchez Wins CL Top Pitcher Honors
Monday, June 1st, 2172: Luis Sánchez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in May, the 28-year-old Cleveland hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 30 in 38.2 innings, logged an ERA of 2.56 and allowed opponents to hit .238 against him.

Sánchez has a 6-1 season record so far. In 11 starts, he has fanned 60 batters in 70 innings with a 2.96 ERA.


RL Selects Martel May's Best Starter
Monday, June 1st, 2172: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Lucien Martel still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 36-year-old starter for Colorado was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 31 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.22 ERA in 44.2 innings of work.

So far this year Martel has made 11 starts, tossed 77 innings, struck out 53 batters and walked 18. His record is 7-3 with a 4.21 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .283 batting average.

Monday, June 1st, 2172: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, César Cortéz just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 22-year-old shortstop for Cleveland hit .376 with 32 hits, 3 home runs and 14 runs batted in. He also logged 0 walks and compiled a .379 on-base percentage.

Looking at his season stats, Cortéz has compiled a .325 batting average and a .347 on-base percentage, while hitting 6 home runs and driving in 29 runs.


May's Spotlight Falls on Rookie Star
Monday, June 1st, 2172: Bill Jarvis was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 26 games Jarvis batted .333 for Hammersmith, slapping 36 hits in 108 at-bats with 7 home runs, drove in 26 runs and scored 20 times.

This season Jarvis is batting .289 with 57 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 28 times and has 38 runs batted in.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2172: The Continental League has selected its Hitter of the Month for June and the honor went to Joe King, Halifax's fine center fielder.

King was selected after batting .370, hitting 4 home runs, scoring 24 runs and driving in 17.

King is batting at a .332 pace this season, picking up 85 hits in 256 at-bats with 8 home runs, 32 RBIs and 54 runs scored.


Harvey Homer Winner in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2172: On the heels of a very productive June, Harvey Homer received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .359 for the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines and racked up 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Homer is swinging at a .356 pace on the year with 15 home runs, 52 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has played in 76 games.

Duxbury Garners CL #1 Pitcher Award
Wednesday, July 1st, 2172: At Lucas Duxbury's age, not many pitchers can still get the job done. But he can still throw the ball. The 38-year-old reliever for Apex was selected the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for June earlier today -- not only satisfying himself, but silencing critics who said he has lost too much to compete at this level.

The old man definitely still has it, making 13 relief appearances and throwing 18 innings as he chalked up 1 save, 12 strikeouts, and a fine 0.00 ERA and a 3-0 mark.

This season Duxbury has picked up 3 saves and a 4-1 mark with a 2.79 ERA. He has made 42 relief appearances, thrown 51.2 innings, walked 16 and struck out 35.


Ann Arbor's Tapia RL Top Pitcher
Wednesday, July 1st, 2172: Veteran Ramón Tapia put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Tapia racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.19 ERA over 37 innings and striking out 25.

Tapia has made 15 starts this season, posting 9 wins and 5 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .199 against him and he has 73 strikeouts in 100 innings with a 2.88 ERA.

Fiset Nabs CL Monthly Rookie Award
Wednesday, July 1st, 2172: Youngster Robert Fiset emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Napa Valley deserved the honor, batting .360 with 4 home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Fiset enjoy the limelight.

In his stats this season, Fiset has posted a batting average of .305 with 94 hits in 308 at-bats, 8 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has also scored 45 runs, walked 17 times and compiled a .380 OBP.


Jarvis Voted June's Top RL Rookie
Wednesday, July 1st, 2172: Bill Jarvis is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Hammersmith hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .311 average with 33 hits, 5 home runs and 17 RBIs.

Jarvis is currently hitting at a .297 pace with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs.

CL Honors Catron, #1 Batter in July
Saturday, August 1st, 2172: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Ángel Catron put together a solid offensive month for Baltimore and was crowned July's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .345 with 8 home runs, 35 RBIs and 16 runs scored.



This season Catron has hit at a .325 clip with 67 RBIs, 15 home runs and 50 runs scored.


Torrid July Gets Durham RL #1 Batter Trophy
Saturday, August 1st, 2172: In the last year of his deal with Hammersmith, Tim Durham has created some waves by winning July's Republic League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .376 batting average with 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He also worked RL pitchers for 7 walks and a .442 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 33-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Saturday, August 1st, 2172: Naoki Sugimoto of the Brownstones pretty much bewildered opposing batters in July and was honored as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

The Brooklyn starter sparkled last month with a 4-0 record and 0.30 ERA. He made 5 starts, tossed 29.2 innings and had 27 strikeouts.

For this year Sugimoto has chalked up 7 wins and 4 losses in 18 starts with 81 strikeouts in 94.1 innings and a 4.29 ERA.


July's #1 Hurler Announced: Cruz Wins Award
Saturday, August 1st, 2172: José Cruz was the anchor in the Ann Arbor bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 11.2 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 1-0 record with 8 strikeouts and 8 saves while etching his 3.09 ERA.

Cruz has taken the hill for 46 relief appearances this season, nailing down 30 saves while notching a 1-4 record with a 3.52 ERA. The Ann Arbor reliever has limited opposing batters to a .240 batting average.

Red-Hot Halifax Rookie Rated CL's Best
Saturday, August 1st, 2172: William Guthrie's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Halifax right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In July he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .288 with 6 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Guthrie also scored 10 times and drove in 18 runs.

Guthrie is currently batting .277 with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs.

In August, Steve Gray snapped up the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 35 hits and popping 8 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .337 with 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored. The Cleveland first baseman also picked up 11 walks to compile a .400 on-base percentage.

Gray is presently batting .317 with 32 home runs, 79 runs scored and 101 RBIs. His OBP is .379.


Caceres Wins RL's Best Bat Trophy
Tuesday, September 1st, 2172: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Ricardo Caceres can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 31-year-old first baseman for Hammersmith was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In August he batted .413 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

So far this season Caceres is batting .288 with 13 home runs, 48 RBIs and 44 runs scored. He has 95 hits in 330 at-bats, 30 walks and a .353 OBP. Caceres has played in 97 games.

CL Top Pitcher for August Picked
Tuesday, September 1st, 2172: As Zoraide Peso hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for August, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Apex once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Peso put pressure on the Assassins to keep him around by posting a 3-0 record and an ERA of 1.96 over 36.2 innings last month. He also rolled up 27 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Apex and to every other team in the league.

In 22 starts this year Peso has posted 6 wins while suffering 9 losses. He has pitched 128.2 innings, allowed 143 hits, struck out 85 and has a 5.11 ERA.


RL Picks August's Top Pitcher
Tuesday, September 1st, 2172: Nicholas Burton had an outstanding August -- so good that the Republic League presented him with the Pitcher of the Month Award earlier today.

"There's no way to know where the Hooligans would be without Burton," one fan is quoted as saying.

In August Burton dominated the competition, running up a 4-0 record, a 2.72 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.

Presently Burton has a 13-4 mark in 26 starts with a 3.85 ERA. He has given up 185 hits in 175.1 innings, struck out 139 and issued 37 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .274 batting average against him.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2172: In August, 22-year-old César Cortéz swung a mighty big bat and bagged the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month he played in 25 games and hit .341 with 6 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs. Cortéz also scored 16 times and drove in 15 runs.

So far this year Cortéz is batting .326 with 14 home runs.

CL Best Hitter Award to Napa Valley's Pedro Carasquillo
Thursday, October 1st, 2172: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Pedro Carasquillo helped his contract negotiations by nabbing September's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Napa Valley third baseman put together a .400 batting average with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Carasquillo continues at this brisk pace.

In his stats this season, Carasquillo has posted a batting average of .334 with 197 hits in 589 at-bats, 22 home runs and 90 RBIs. He has also scored 93 runs, walked 51 times and compiled a .408 OBP.


Guzmán Wins RL Prize, Named Best Hitter in September
Thursday, October 1st, 2172: Jesús Guzmán of the Hartford Riverhawks swung a mean bat for the last 30 days and was acclaimed the Republic League Batter of the Month for September.

The 29-year-old second baseman slapped out a .455 batting average, 1 home run, 21 RBIs, 20 runs scored and a .486 on-base percentage.

Guzmán is currently hitting at a .307 pace with 4 home runs and 57 RBIs.

Field Wins CL Top Pitcher Award
Thursday, October 1st, 2172: When Alan Field takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Noblesville victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.09 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 33 innings, fanned 22, and held enemy hitters to a .218 average.

That's why the Millers star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

On the season Field has compiled a 10-11 mark with a 3.46 ERA in 30 starts. In pitching 184.2 innings he has 125 strikeouts and 43 walks while limiting the opposition to a .258 batting average.


Anguiana RL's #1 Pitcher in September
Thursday, October 1st, 2172: The elite pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Mauro Anguiana of the Omaha Bees. He stood head and shoulders above the rest, finishing September with an extraordinary 4-0 record and a 3.72 ERA.

The Bees star hurler made 5 starts and surrendered 35 hits in 36.1 innings. He struck out 28 and walked 11.

On his stats sheet this season Anguiana shows a 10-15 record, 31 starts, 205.2 innings, 140 strikeouts and a 4.55 ERA.

Thursday, October 1st, 2172: Baltimore's Luis Juárez put the wraps on an excellent month today, topping it off with the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 23-year-old Baltimore catcher played in 22 games and hit .390 with 3 doubles, no triples and 6 home runs. Juárez also scored 12 times and drove in 16 runs.

This year Juárez is batting .305 with 133 hits, 16 home runs, 69 RBIs, 58 walks, .385 OBP and has scored 67 runs.
