British Open Golf Championship 2004

Tee hee. The Scottish weather has now hit the links at Troon in full force. That'll stop the high scoring for sure and weed out the real contenders.

Watching it now... nice recovery by Tiger and he's looking good for the final round. Ernie Els is hitting some very nice shots as well, but the French guy Levet is on fire and looks like he's the favourite.

But the last Frenchman to get close was Van De Velde and we all know what happened to him.

Going to be a very good final round, there's a lot of good players in contention and the weather has settled down after being pretty rough earlier

I've been watching it since round 1.
Thomas Levet is tied at 3rd with -6, two shots behind leader. Els is 2nd at -7.

All the favourites are in the "mix" for a great final round.
For the record, Thomas Levet already finished 2nd at The Open, that was two years ago in 2002.
Last sunday Thomas won the Scottish Open (the second biggest European tournament, right after The Open) with a final round of...63 !!! He beat Els, Michelson etc...
so he's pretty confident right now.

dola.

However, I don't see him win...but he has a great chance for a top5 finish.
Woods is not far away at -4.

Hey, what's with the "British" in the title?? Especially coming from a European. Even as an American, I still want to slap announcers who call it "The British Open" instead of just "The Open Championship".

The official name has been "the Open Championship" since the start in 1860, yes, but the name commonly used is always "British Open" to avoid confusion with the U.S. Open. Maybe it's a British thing to insist on calling it "the" Open?

Anybody else hear that old codger, Peter Aliss, this morning? They were having some conversation with Peter when he jokingly mentioned that some parts of England only recently got gas. Then he said, “But there’s plenty of gas here in the booth.” I had to laugh. You would never hear discussions about farting on a golf telecast never mind the British Open. That was pretty funny to say the least.

Alliss is one of my favorite commentators. I love his voice and his sense of humor.
