In the same post, Marc Duffy wrote: "set for release on Friday 21st November 2003". Maybe this date isn't news but I had missed it somehow... :o

The screens show the increased interactivity with other clubs, media and players.

CM3, CM4, etc - the versions. Championship Manager 4
CM 03/04 - the year = Championship Manager 4 (2003/2004 season)

Major upgrades are CM1, CM2, CM3 & CM4. Releases between the majors get year designations CM 00/01, CM 01/02 etc.

Anal trout injection? - sometimes this board frightens me.

Coming from a guy that could be either of 2 individuals, that is interesting commentary.

So it bears no number designation because it can be used in any version? (the interum versions, that is)

No. It just means it is based on the previous major upgrade. It is a stand alone game and doesn't work with previous versions (like an update disk would).

The recent progression was CM3, CM99/00, CM 00/01, CM 01/02, CM4, CM 03/04. CM 99/00 - 01/02 were all using the CM3 engine with minor tweaks and add-ons (as well as updated rosters). CM 03/04 is based on the CM4 engine with additions. The real designation should be CM4 03/04 Season.

Adding more to my confusion--- so, it is a freebie upgrade for CM4 users? A standalone you can purchase? Both? Neither?

It's a separate game. You do not need the previous versions installed to play it, and in most cases there is no compatibility between versions. It should be priced a little lower than the major versions (to be honest I haven't checked yet), but it is a standalone and separate product.

Edit: Think differences between FOF2001 and FOF2002. Same engine, different games.

Yeah I've been told to "sod off" so many times on those forums for asking regular questions, guess that's what happens when you're a text sim gamer but not a football fan.

What does the 'latest scores' button do? I am assuming it takes you to a page with that day's results, but I hadn't noticed it in screenshots before.

Yep that's it, but nothing new here, it appears either when your playing online and some of the players as a game or when you stop a simulation to check your news.

If you're playing a network game with friends and they're in a match then it'll show you the scores in all matches on that day at that 'simulated' time - hence your friend might be 2-1 after 30 minutes etc.

This kind of overwhelms me a little, with FOF2004 and TPF coming our way. I had planned on getting CM03/04 as my first version of CM, but now I don't know, as my lovce for football is much greater than my love of soccer... :sigh: too much good stuff at once, too little time in a day...

Also, Total Pro Basketball is scheduled for release in November and Title Bout Championship Boxing is very close to release as well.

These developers need to get together and spread the releases out a little bit!

I think with TPF being pushed into December, this one will also necesarily slip. I don't see them having the manpower to push out two games at once.

With different developers I don't think manpower will be an issue. Gary doesn't have anything to do with TPF and Arlie doesn't have anything to do with TPB, so I doubt those delays will have an effect (although I could be wr..wrr..wro..). I think it'll be out in November (or at the latest December) unless they hit a major snag in the beta testing (which I believe is underway).

But I thought Joe did the spit-shining on both of them. You could be right, though, and one won't effect another. There is also the possibility of them not wanting their releases to be so close together - for marketing reasons.
