The WAR Thread

Lets talk about wars here. This should be wide open, including the politics and economies and diplomacy behind any war happening in the world.

I saw somewhere that the USA has only been at complete peace 21 years of its existence.

I also heard we may send troops into Venezuela. Russia got their gold out of the country today,

Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Africa, where ever.

The Venezuela thing really interests me. This could be the first war in our sphere in a long time. No more warring on the borders of others. Its close to home.

I'm pretty sure that Wrestle Association R recollections could be included in the general Pro Wrestling thread we already have

I wonder in the history of mandkind, what % of men who reach the age of say, 18, participated in some war or battle between peoples. Must be pretty high. Sometimes I'm just overwhelmed by the amount of comfort and non-warring I've enjoyed in my life just based upon when and where I was born (which is a sentiment that also includes a great appreciation for veterans).

I'm glad we live in the dimension where the Allies won.

Obviously more dangerous than a Panama or Grenada but I would like to see regime change there. I don't think boots on the ground is the answer, instead supporting the opposition more/better is the way to go.

It will be good to get a friendly leader in there but as as importantly, help out the people at the same time as bettering our strategic interest.

Yeah it's tricky. Obviously I support the opposition, and getting rid of the Maduro(/Chavez) regime should be better for the country, but if it's too overtly done with US support (especially under Trump) you risk people just voting a new socialist regime in a decade down the line. So hopefully the threat of US military intervention is enough to keep Maduro and hardline elements in the military from using force, but us using force isn't really a good option either.

I slightly prefer fWAR to bWAR since I think FIP is more predictive than RA/9, but while I think both have a lot of value they rely too heavily on unreliable defensive metrics and aggressive positional adjustments. DH's in particular getting an automatic negative defensive value seemed odd once we got out of the steroid era and there weren't a surplus of great bat only DH types hanging around, plus many players who perform worse when in a DH role than playing in the field. Plus positions aren't all created equal due to defensive shifts and different stadiums (for example Mookie Betts plays half his games in Fenway where RF is much bigger than LF, so why give both him and Benintendi the same automatic negative for being a corner OF?)
