I end the season. I score an 80. Nice!

The 2041 NFL Offseason

Retirements

LB Edward Fuller – We drafted him in my first draft with the Dolphins and he was a stud we kept for a while and then I inherited the man with the Panthers and kept him here. He is retired after finishing 13 seasons in the league. One All Pro

That’s it

Abe’s Boys

RB TJ Mahoney – My post-Fones RB for the Dolphins, and a 5th round drafted pick who did quite well for us.

TE Lawrence Fulton – 3rd round pick for the Dolphins that was one of the better TEs in the league during his run in a certain stud TE’s shadow.

CB Joshua Trunsky – Drafted in the 5th round by the Dolphins, this starting CB started a long time for me.

The Staff Draft

I retain my HC and DC. We pick 3rd and… I make no changes to our staff.

I massage my ticket prices

Here is who I have coming free not as an RFA

…..

That’s it! So no franchises obviously

I head to FA

The 2041 NFL FA Period #1

I look at the draft. We are drafting 1.28. That’s back there. I need to target talent that might fall. I’d like talent at D Line, a stud OG only, better FS. And I’d take studs at pretty much any place that falls to 1.28. I Interview O Line and D Line.

I sign my RFAs. I have 52 under contract and room for 60 mill after my draft which we are about to use. Heavily.

Here are my players coming free that I am looking to resign, in order of their importance

QB Pritchett
FL Wilcox
OG Tatum
CB Zaiser
OT Gillespie
DT Benson
Wr Brandenfeis
CB Collier

5 backups

I sign Pritchett first as he’s a must despite not playing super well. He wants 200 mill over 5 years, which increases the cap hit by 22 mill this year alone

I also extend LS Belott while talking about it.

Who’s next?

Here are their demands

FL Wilcox – 5 years, 109 mill
OG Tatum – 5 years, 99 mill
CB Zaiser – 4 years, 63 mill
OT Gillespie – 4 years, 57 mill
DT Benson – 4 years, 36 mill
Wr Brandenfeis – 5 years, 62 mill
CB Collier – 3 years, 25 mill

I can replace Collier with the 7th rounder I took and save myself a lotta cash there.

I sign Gillespie now as he’s the best deal in my opinion.

I extend some backups while thinking about it.

And now who? I have 29 mill left in my cap?

I move forward a week to see if anyone is signable.

OC Deion Horton is available but I’m set at C.

WLB David Suzaka is available if I want to bring in a new WLB but I’m fine.

26 mill left. Let’s say 20 for UFAs

Wilcox alone would go from a cap hit of 4 mill this year to 17 mill and would eat up all but 7 mill of what I have left. I need to cut some players in order to free up some cash.

I cut

OG Petrovic – I’ll start a draftee or my signing last year -I save 7 mill

OT Castaneda – I’ll start Farly this year. I save 12.5 mill

With those savings alone I extend Wilcox and Tatum – I am left with 22 mil for new players – 6 – 16 mill.

I extend Rieke by a year and drop his cap this year. I extend Brandenfeis who is my key PR/KR and a great WR.

I cut WR Collier and save 10 mill. I extend Zaiser.

I’ll wait until post draft to sign Benson in case I draft a better DT.

Let’s hit up FA!

Week 2 – Suzaka signs with the Texans.

Week 9 – Petrovic signs with the Giants

I head to the draft

The 2041 NFL Amateur Draft

Drafting first is the Patriots. They grab at 1.1 QB Walter Flowers, the top Qb and 3rd best player in the draft overall.

Our pick arrives at 1.28. Who is left?

DE Colby Shea, As scouted, 2nd best player on the board
DE Henry Hepburn, Hard to Read
SLB Bryson Sherman – Stud LB, top player on the board. I could grab him and move him to WLB.
OG Neal Ramirez – Nice bars, Overrated
OG Josh Bell – Good run blocking, Hard to Read
DT Marco Walker, As Scouted, not great bars

I like Shea. He meets need and is one of the best players on the board so I grab him

The 2.28 arrives. Who do I like? OG Omar Higbee? I grab him.

3.28 – Dt Colby Hampton? CB Tito Bobo? I do Bobo – he looks like a grower

4.28 – Wanna really push DE? How about Wayne Conyers? Or I could go with S Lamont Dundas. I do Conyers who seems like he fell for some random reason.

5.28 – Hmmm… How about the top OT on the board - Clayton Ottesen?

6.28 – How about a LB? The top one is WLB Vernon Carpenter

7.28 – Who is the Bap? CB Horace Holsey with a 5.1 rating. I grab him.

Rookie Lookie #1

1.28 – DE Colby Shea, Florida, 39/77
2.28 – OG Omar Higbee, Wake Forest, 28/64
3.28 – CB Tito Bobo, Iowa State, 42/55
4.28 – DE Wayne Conyers, Army, 25/65
5.28 – OT Clayton Ottesen, Stanford, 22/43
6.28 – WLB Vernon Carpenter, Mississippi State, 19/42
7.28 – CB Horace Holsey, Ohio State, 21/43

And there we are! I hope Shea won’t bust on me like a certain As Scouted SS did last year…

Wanna see my rookies?

This is my first rounder DE Colby Shea. As you can see he is pretty solid, and well rounded in a few ways. He’s not a coverage guy, but that’s not why I draft and play DEs. He can be confused by a really smart puppy but he hits like a bull.

Let’s skip my #2 and head to #3

Here is Tito Bobo! As you can see he’s okay in a lot of areas, weak at the hitting, and then will start for us at FS and I have Davidson at nickelback.

Any offers for next year with my 28+ mill?

How much Bonnell will want to extend now two years early? 133 mill , 5 years. I do it

On the Green Page we have Shea, Bobo, and Conyers. I am starting all three

Rookie Investigation

After busting, Higbee is the worst OG in the draft.

Shea is the 2nd best DE in the draft. Conyers is the 4th best. Miami got the best DE and the best D Line in the draft at 1.27 right before us. Their new GM is nailing their drafts.

After booming in preseason, Carpenter is 5th best among all LBs.

After booming as well, Bobo is the best CB and d back.

Stats

Offensive

Passing

QB Pritchett – 380 of 588, 4298, 24:14, 88.6 rating, 28 sacks

2nd in yards, tied for 5th in TDs, 8th in rating.

Rushing

RB Bonnell – 367 for 1489, 4.06 ypc, 10 scores

He was first by 125 yards, tied for the most TDs

Receiving

Wilcox finished with a studly 1444 yards and 7 scores on 119 grabs. He had the most yards in the league. Bonnell was 2nd in grabs and added another 550 yards to his total to go over 2k again as well as 5 more scores. Good stuff!

Blocking

Here you go! Tatum owned those KRB this year. Just one player grabbed 50, and he was 2nd by one KRB. Just 2 sacks by Tatum is nice. Lynch had another great year and others were fine

Special Teams

K Mergen – 19 of 22, Long 48, 28 of 29 PAT

It was a down year for my offense and he wasn’t used as much

P Holdgate – 93 punts, 48.8 avg,34 in 20

Great year by the guy!

Ackerman with a RET TD.

Defense

Here are our defensive numbers. Stone led in tackles, not Hartman who had a down year. Note the nice 8.5 debut by Shea in his rookie year! I thought he might get Def. Rookie of the Year. Rookie Conyers was right behind him with 8. Good stuff! Joseph with a down year, to be expected given his age. Benson as well.

Pass Coverage

Stone led my team in picks and was solid in pasdef at 9. For a guy bad at picks, Schneider certainly delivered! Good stuff!

I end the season and score a 74 Uh oh

The 2042 NFL Offseason

Retirements

DT Jonah Joseph - Tons of all pros, definitely a Hall of Fame player. Have a good life!

DE Kirk Rieke – Our only NFL Def. PotY in or career. Lots of AllPros, another HOF player!

CB Owen Ackerman – one All Pro, played his whole career for us with the Dolphins and then the Panthers. He was one of my best UFA acquisitions in the dynasty.

Abe’s Boys Elsewhere

OG Alec Petrovic – One All Pro, was a stud for me at OG, and he is heading out for his next career.

Staff Draft

We draft 6th. Any changes?

Our OC was hired as a head coach so we need to hire someone else. The top OC option is Earnest Dillon, a balanced lover, and I hire him

No other changes

I look at my roster. I have one RB FA, two LBs with Ragonesi and Donaldson, and CB Collier and S Ogden. The rest are RFAs so I make no changes.

What do I need to draft?

Backup – RBx2, A better backup than Ven Pelt at Qb if possible, CB, LBx2, WR,
Starter – OG, DT, FS,

Let’s head to FA!

The 2042 NFL FA Period #1

We are drafting 1.27. I interview OGs, DBs and DTs

We have 48 mill under our cap and 36 for new deals.

Who is coming up this year?

MLB Lonnie Hartman who has dropped to 50/50 – I will not resign
OG Lenny Cote – Probably not resigning
SLB Alvin Stone – 7th year vet,66/66. I may want to resign. What does he want? 54 mill 4 years. Let’s wait until post-draft
WR Harold DuBois – Wants 51 mill, 4 years. Nope
OG Mota – Wants 23 mill over 5 years. Done
S Davidson – Wants 15 mill for three years. Done

I sign some backups

I extend my K and LS

I add MLB to my starter want list in the draft.

I have 25 mill left in my cap

Any 2 years left I want to extend? I extend OT Farley. How about Schneider? He wants 51 mill over 4 years. Done.

Any targets I want to chase in FA?

Should I make an offer for FB Stanley Delgado – he is the 6th best FB in the league. But it would be 4 years and 26 mill so no thanks…

Week 9 – RB Brendan Buggelli signs with the Bucs

Week 10 – LB Donaldson signs with the Giants and CB Collier with the Bears

I’ll see you at the draft!

The 2042 NFL Amateur Draft

Drafting at the 1.1 spot is DC. Who do they take? OT Kirk Meier, the top overall player on the board.

Our pick arrives at 1.27.

Who is left?

Here are my needs….

Backup – RBx2, A better backup than Ven Pelt at Qb if possible, CB, LBx2, WR,
Starter – OG, DT, FS, MLB

If I could come away with a S (or a CB I move over), DT, OG or LB or quality here I’ll be happy.

Who do we have?

SS Clayton Jacke – Overrated- 3rd player on the board and top S
SS Carlton Winters – Hard to Read, 4th player and 2nd S on the board
OG Joe Wynn - Overrated – 5th player on the board, top OG
FS Roman Hicks – Ran out of interviews, 6th S on the board but looks good with the bars
LB Brock Pauley – Top player on the board, looks studly
OG Phillip Parrish – Very underrated

I like Parrish, Hicks or Pauley here

Wanna See?

Here’s the very underrated OG. As you can see, he’s nice and well rounded.

Here’s the top player on the board, Brock Pauley, with no major weaknesses save for play d. He would be a great new MLB for me to replace Hartman.

Here’s Roman Hicks. Not the best at the bump and run and weaker st run d, but he looks pretty sexy

You need all three and it’s 1.27 so you are getting a solid contributor to the three needs on my roster. Who do I like?

Reasons for Each –

For Parrish – I have interviewed him and like him. That’s big. His bars are consistent.

Against Parrish - I get OGs all of the time later and it’s not uncommon to get them here at the back or the 1st or 2nd. Or even later. It’s the position of least need. Mota is 88 in run blocking pot and I don’t need the best OG in the world especially given my contract.

For LB Pauley – The MLB is a big need in a 4-3. This would be a big increase in value from 50/50 currently.

Against Pauley – I don’t need Pauley that much. I don’t need to be spending 1sts for LBs in a 4-3 when I have a better option, and I have studs elsewhere on the board I can snag.

For Hicks – DBs this good this good this late are rare. The OG and LB here isn’t that uncommon. Hicks is. Getting another stud in the defensive backfield could really shut things down.

Against Hicks – Will I be able to afford a nasty stud at each S? Am I just renting Hicks for a few years and then moving on? Isn’t this guy superfluous when I can start FS Davidson?

Hm…………………….

Parrish’s very underrated is valuable. Pauley’s bigger upgrade is valuable. Hicks’ rare studery this late is valuable….

Hicks, Pauley, or Parrish?

I do Hicks. It’s too rare not too. Without an interview it’s a gamble…but we lost on an As Scouted SS so I’ll take it.

2nd Round? Any starting talent left at OG, DT, or LB? It’s a reach, but the top OG is Russell Finch. Do I grab him? He’s a run blocking specialist which I like. I take him. Maybe he’ll boom like my LB did last year!

3rd Round? How about DT Jared Heard? Or LB Gabriel Miley? Or CB Omar McDonald? I do Heard. DT is a bigger need than LB. He looks like a grower.

4th round – The BAP is DE Dillon Becker but I don’t need DE, right? WR Enrique Ruth? I do Ruth.

5th Round – I need another D Back….who is the top one? Donald Sinclair is. I draft him.

6.26 – RB Marty Anderson?

7.27 – WLB Giovanni Huffman

Rookie Lookie #1

1.27 – S Roman Hicks, Davidsson; 32/73
2.26 – OG Russell Finch, Stanford; 33/55
3.27 – DT Jared Heard, Air Force; 33/42
4.26 – WR Enrique Ruth, Weber State; 29/42
5.27 – CB Donald Sinclair, Abilene Christian; 24/48
6.26 – RB Marty Anderson, Pittsburgh; 41/50
7.27 – WLB Giovanni Huffman, Stanford; 22/62

Not the best later part of the draft but I think it wasn’t as strong a draft as it could have been. In Hicks we Trust.

Wanna see my rookies?

Hicks is a pick-a-saurus-rex. He is the opposite of Ernie Weber! If he can pay like it? I’ll be pretty happy. I moved S Davidson to nickelback.

How about my 2nd round?

Here is Finch. Here’s not this amazing guy, and I wish some of that STR were in pass blocking, but he should prove solid in the run blocking game should he be called upon to do so.

On The Green Page we have nobody.

This rookie class feels disappointing so how did I actually do? Was it a weak draft?

Let’s look!

At RB, after booming in preseason, RB Anderson is now the 5th best Rb in the draft. This was a RB draft with three studs in the 70s. Only two in the 50s.

At WR Ruth, is 8th best

At OG Finch is the 4th best. The OG I was looking at at 1.27 was drafted 1.30 and is the 3rd best OG after busting at 41/64.

This was a non-draft for Dts. Heard was 2nd best.

LB Huffman is the 10th best at any position. My SLB I was eyeing at 1.27 is 45/67

At d-backs, Hicks is not only the best S but he’s the best DBack.

So when you look at that, the draft felt pretty weak.

The 2042 NFL Regular Season

Last year we were 10-6. The previous year we were 12-4. This year I think we’ll split the difference and come in at 11-5.

Week 1 – At the Falcons – We begin this season on the road and in the division, just like last season. Can we win? We lose 17-31, which we did last season as well. Pritchett was 30 of 52, 371 and 2:1, Wilcox and Brandenfeis with scores. Pick by DE Shea. A pick.

Not as many All Pros as we should have had, I’m shocked Stone wasn’t an All Pro. This is Pritchett’s first league award. Farley with his first All Pro, good job!

Stats

Offensive

Passing

QB Pritchett – 224 of 356, 2583 yards, 19:9, 92.0 rating
QB Van Pelt – 114 of 177, 1252 yards, 10:9, 82.8 rating

A down year with injury

Rushing

RB Bonnell – 398 for 1689, 4.24 ypc, 13 scores

Bonnell was first in yards and scores.

Receiving

Here you go! This was a down year for Wilcox, but his 1188 yards were 4th in the league, and his 8 scores tied for 1st. DuBois a solid season in his final year with us. Bonnell a solid 548 yards on 56 grabs and he was more than 2.1k yards from scrimmage.

Blocking

Farley had a great year for us in the KRBs with 3 pancakes and 5 sacks allowed. Tatum was2nd with 36 but his KRO was down so his KRB is obviously down as well. He had the highest blocking % by far. I can’t fault him for not being used that‘s a coaching decision.

Special Teams

K Mergen – 31 of 37, Long of 52; 45 of 45 PAT

A much better season this year!

P Holdgate – 86 punts, 49.1 average – nasty, 27 in 20 – not good

He was hot and cold. Nasty average that led the league but a lower % in 20.

We had no returns for scores this year

Defense

Stone led my team in tackles and added 2.5 sacks. Three of my DEs rocked more than 5 sacks but this is a disappointing total for Shea. Benson only added 4.5 sacks. This was a down year for my sacks

Pass Coverage

Stone led my team in picks with 6 and notched a nice 9 pasdef. No LB got as many picks as he did and yet…no All Pro. We had a lot of picks with Davidson notching 5 picks and rookie Hicks 4. We had a lot of pasdef out there as well. It was a good year in this area!

Off. Player of the Year – Ot Grant Farley – His first All Pro! Good job sir!

Def. Player of the Year – SLB Alvin Stone – He led my team in two key assists and was robbed of an All Pro…

Special Teams Player of the Year – K Brent Mergen – Had no missed PATs! Solid FG numbers and one Game MVP.

Rookie of the Year – FS Roman Hicks – He was 3rd in picks, had a great pick six, notched double digit pasdef. Good job!

Heart Award – QB Maxwell Van Pelt – Stepped into the starting role for a serious stretch of games and did quite well for us in the wins. Good job!

I end the season and I score an 88

The 2043 NFL Offseason

Retirements of Note

Our AC retires at the age of 68

No Players on our team

Abe’s Boys

OC Derrick Dixon – 7th round draftee early in Dolphins, only was with the team for a few years before heading out to other teams

MLB Josiah Shaw – A nasty 4t rounder we played at MLB for a few years, and a franchise tag, but let go as he was too expensive. We replaced him with Hartman. All Pro 1x

WLB Jerald Ragonesi – A player with the Dolphins and with us as well

CB Bryan Hutcheson – Our 7th round wonder who broke out and won 5 All Pros!

Staff Draft

We draft 1st!

I hire Garrett Boles as our new AC, he’s 51, likes Off. Lineman, and has a 78 suitability.

No other changes happen

I have coming free 6 players including Hartman, DuBois, and Codgell and Compton. Do any make sense as franchise tags? Not really

What do I need for my team?

Starter – OG, TE maybe, DT, MLB,
Backup – TE, WR, C, OT, DE, LB, Cb

FA time!!!!

2043 NFL FA Period #1

I look at my draft for DT or OG talent that might fall as those are my biggest needs. Will they be there a the 1.32 is the biggest question. I interview 4 OGs, 4 TE, and 4 DT,

Let’s look at my roster

I cut TE Steve Schwartz. He has dropped to 26/26 and I cannot keep the 10 year vet on my team

I sign the RFA’s I want to. That leaves us with 42

I extend my K, P and LS

Which of my players with a 1 year left are of note?

CB Boucvalt, 19 mill, 4 years
TE Schultz – 29 mill, 3 years
WR Bryson Woodard – 12 mill, 2 years

I extend a few cheap backups I like, like LB Ellingson who is a special teams hoss. I sign Boucvalt and Woodard but Schultz is too pricey now. I’ll wait until post draft before making an offer for him

Now the next question. Do I wanna chase DE Jamal Compton? He didn’t want o resign last year as I didn’t use him enough but he’s a strong rotational guy. How much does he want?

I fast forward a week

Compton wants 89 mill, 5 years. No thanks!

I have 47 mill under the cap and I need 12 for draftees so we have 35, which is a lot. But I don’t have that much. Good luck Jamal!

Anyone else in FA I’d like to chase?

Nope!

Week 2 – DuBois signs with Pittsburgh, Cogdell signs with the Falcons

Week 4 – Compton is heading to Denver and yes, he got that cash.

The 12 weeks ends. We have four UFAs left. Ready for the draft?

The 2043 NFL Amateur Draft

Ready?

Drafting first is the Chargers and they grab QB Van Sutter. Our pick arrives at 1.32. Who do I like?

TE Scott Westbrook – 3rd best player on the board, okay bars, Overrated
WLB Donovan Wooden – Best player on the board, looks pretty good in the bars save for Man to Man, Zone and Play D.
DE Kendrick Hanks - 5th player on the board, okay bars,
DT Cory Henderson – Overrated
DT Darren Coffey – Hard to Read
DT Ray de Young – Better bars, no interview
OG Daquan Beaty – Underrated – top OG on he board – just okay run blocking

The top three TEs on the board are no longer so. Beaty is the only OG left I interviewed.

Who do I want?

I take de Young. He’s a gamble but one I’ll take as he could be a shower and drop. But he looks like a good shower.

2.32

TE Everett Ackerman? He’s a good pass catching specialist. WR Josue Zaccardelli seems pretty solid as well. DE Hanks is still on the board. Grab him? I don’t need a DE I have two but he’s the BAP. He’s not great at the pressure. I also really like SLB Jack Gaines. I do Gaines. He’s a position of need. Also a gamble as he didn’t go to the combine, but I like his bars.

3.32 – How about the top undrafted FB: Rasheed Whiting?

4.32 – OT Miles Cote has fallen and I need a backup. Do I snag him?

5.32 – OG Arturo Dole is solid but bad at the run blocking. How about backup Rick Butler at MLB?

6.32 – How about TE Francisco Dixon?

7.32 - RB Deion Westbrook? Or RB Steven Hawkins? Both look solid. I do Hawkins…

Rookie Lookie #1

1.32 – DT Ray de Young, Clemson, 44/83
2.32 – SLB Jack Gaines, Washington, 37/71
3.32 – FB Rashad Whiting, Mississippi State, 36/54
4.32 – OT Miles Cote, Tulane, 26/52
5.32 – MLB Rick Butler, Air Force, 28/52
6.32 – TE Francisco Dixon, Kansas, 25/44
7.32 – RB Steven Hawkins, Stanford, 39/51

There we are! This may be a two player draft but we’ll see! I move Gaines to MLB.

Grier is 64/76 in power, 54/65 hang time, 35/58 directional. He’s more well rounded. I keep Grier

Wanna see my rookies?

Here is Ray de Young, my 1.32 selection. As you can see he’s not great as the coverage but that’s not why we have a D Line. His hitting is his weakest spot. And that’s ain’t bad. He’s good at rush and run d. Welcome to the team!

And here is Gaines whom we added at the end of the 2nd round. He’s well rounded and not weak in anything and he hits like a bear in heat. I look forward to his development!

On the Green Page we have de Young. At the 4 spot!

This draft had no non-K/P player with a potential more than 79. And we got one!

Rookie Investigation

At TE, Dixon was 8th, it was deep.

After booming in the preseason, Miles Cote is now the 4th best!

At P Grier is the best.

De Young is the best DT and the best D Line period. Okay! Nesbit is the 6th best DT after booming and he has a nasty 97 pass rush tech and 100 pass rush strength! After I grow him he’ll likely be my new Benson.

At LB Gaines is the 3rd best. Butler is 7th best.

Good stuff!
